One of The Rituals of Mating Rituals by Tina Gayle

 Excerpt -
Palms sweaty—heart steady—battle ready—Marohka reviewed her strategy for the fight. A crowd sat watching her from the observation deck. One of the elders read the rules over the loud speaker. “The person who pins his or her opponent for ten itons . . .”
Her gaze darted to the man standing in the middle of the mating arena. Orange padded walls framed Stihl’s body. Sizewise, he stood over four leg-lengths’ tall, giving him a half of leg advantage. Weightwise, he out matched her by at least a hundred pounds. Yet, neither his size nor his weight worried her. She’d beaten bigger men before at the gym where she worked out.
Bigger, but soft, she amended.
Under his skintight workout suit, she recognized a strong athletic man who worked out regularly. Her stomach churned at his muscle mass. The odds of her winning against a seasoned opponent ground to zero.
A blinding force of reality struck her—she could lose.
Unwilling to accept the possibility, she struggled with a way to win. She had two options, trick him with a fast maneuver or draw blood. Per the rules, any blood spilled disqualified him. Then, if she were lucky, the match over, and she’d be free forever.
She smiled at the reassuring thought. A strangely sweet odor hit her senses. With a quick glance at her target, she caught sight of his mischievous grin. A dimple flashed from the corner of his mouth.
Recognition dawned. Her opponent, none other than the guy by the staircase last night, winked at her. A fleeting notion sped through her head. Does she really want to win?
“Marohka Taunton meet your future mate, Stihl Fermesium,” the formal voice rang from the speakers.
With a nod of greeting, Marohka placed herself under tight control. Every muscle on alert, she waited for the contest to begin. She clenched her teeth to hide the spark of fear vibrating through her nervous system.
“Now after being introduced and read the rules, let’s see a fair fight.”
“Looks like you were wrong. It’s not over.” Stihl grinned.

She shifted into her fighting stance. Knees bent, one foot a step behind the other. She pictured ways to defeat him. “It soon will be.”

Lost in Plain Sight or Lost in the Crowd

Yesterday, I lost my computer glass. I knew where I had left them, yet they weren’t there. I searched the whole house, thinking I may have taken them to a different room, only to find them later behind the table where I had laid them.

This is how I think most of us feel at times in today’s world. We are standing in the middle of a crowd, or at the grocery store walking down the aisle. Some one starts talking behind us. We turn, only to find that they are not talking to us at all. They’re on a cell phone carrying on a conversation with someone else.

In plain sight, but not seen.

So what?

Big deal.

What’s your point?

I guess I'm just trying to say "you’re not alone."

Everyone shares these feelings. Just take a moment to smile at them. You never know how it might brighten their day, and it reminds them they are not alone.

Hope you are having a great holiday season and the next year begins you everything you hope for,

Tina

Recovering During the Holidays

Whenever I think about the grieving family in Conn., my heart bleds.

It is so hard to lose someone in the month of December because every year it comes back to you.

My father died at the beginning of the month and every year I struggle to remember that this is a joyous time of year not one for mourning.

But how can one get over the pain of losing someone. It isn't an easy task and no one can predict how long it will take to find the peace of accepting their death.

There are still times that I will find myself tearing up, even if I'm remembering a happy event.

The reason I believe is because certain people stay in our hearts forever. They touched us deeply and no matter how hard we try we can't replace them. They are a part of us.

To help deal with these feelings it is important to understand we all grieve and we all grieve differently. So try not to be hard on yourself, stay social, and continue to get out. Exercise is another way to ward off long spells of depression.

Remember the people you have around you and enjoy them.

Breathe and recall how much the person loved you. They would want you to go on and have a wonderful life.

I hope this has helped, feel free to leave a comment. Sometime it helps to share a memory.

Tina

Joining Cyber World - A New Horizon for the New Year

I mentioned the other day, that I met with some writer friends.

We talked about what a new author needed to do to get their name out into cyber world.

The list is a little daunting when you first look at all the sites there are to join.

Facebook
Google +
Twitter
Goodread
Manic Reader,
etc.

I could go on and on, but I guess what I'm trying to say here is that a new author doesn't have to join them all at once. Join one, and get to know what they enjoy about the site then join the next one.

Also, some of the sites above allow you to feed your blog into your page. This make it look like you are on the site maybe more than you are.

Enjoy the journey and get to know some people along the way,

Tina

Tina's De-stress the Holidays Ideas

So many of us stress the holiday by trying to do everything.

Just remember you can't be having fun if you're worried about all the things you need to get done.

Take a minute for yourself.

Light a candle,
play your favorite song,
sing and watch the lights on your Christmas tree,
Enjoy the snow falling outside your window,

A few seconds to absorb the small things will help you to appreciate the special moments in your day.

Also, if you want to see some awesome Christmas trees visit my friend Cheryl St.John's blog.

Have a great holiday season,

Author Tip from I Wrote My First Story Now What

How many emails do you send out a day?To who?Readers? Then it might be a smart idea to setup and  • Some authors use a tagline that describes the type of books they write. Example: Women’s stories with heart.

• This helps to remind people who you are and what you do.

• Make the subject line compelling so that people will open your email. Remember this is the first thing they read. It never hurts to remind people that you have other place where they can visit to learn more about you. Have a good one, Tinawww.tinagayle.net[image error]

Christmas Treat - Orange Cranberry Scones

“There are no days in life so memorable as those which vibrated to some stroke of the imagination.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

I love creating a recipe that I know will be good, but I don't like it when I'm not pleased with the out come. For that reason, I decide to share this recipe. It is a tasty treat that you can enjoy on a cold winter morning.

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups flour
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 egg
1 cup Ocean Spray® Craisins® Original Sweetened Dried Cranberries
2 teaspoons orange zest
Sugar

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 425ºF. Grease a cookie sheet.

Combine dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Work butter or margarine into dry ingredients until butter is the size of small peas using a pastry blender or fork. Add remaining ingredients, mixing just until dry ingredients are moist.

Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and gather into a ball. Pat into a circle 3/4-inch thick; cut into 8 wedges. Place on cookie sheet. Sprinkle with sugar.

Bake 12 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 8 scones.

Tina Tidings of Christmas Gift Ideas

Scanning the globe for just the right gift for your dog.

Might want to watch this video

http://www.reuters.com/video/2012/12/04/canines-get-their-paws-on-christmas-cake?videoId=239634292&newsChannel=oddlyEnoughNews

Luckily my dog is much easier to please.  No so true of the rest of my family.  As for the men in your life. Sports equipment or tools. Unlike women, men don't see tools as a extension of them having to do work around the house.   Tickets to some type of event is also a way you can share in the fun and get a night out. (Just a thought.) Teenagers are the next hardest to buy for.   [image error] Electronics has always been popular for my boys but they can be very picky... might try a gift card from best buy to make it easiler.     Games are also a fun treat for the family. Personal, remember not to pick ones you don't enjoy. You don't want to have to play monoply if you don't like the game.   Books - now with the ereaders people can read them anywhere. Also, if you're taking a long car trip audio books are wonderful. I have spent many hours listening to Harry Potter. My oldest is a big Jim Butcher fan.  Hope this help and have a wonderful holiday season, Tina
