Dead Princess Walking is now LIVE and a Crooked Halos short is coming in October!!
Hello, everyone!
So, my exciting news is that Dead Princess Walking is now LIVE and you can get it in both paperback and Kindle format on Amazon!! The reviews have been beyond fantastic for this first book in a new series. If you’re in any way hesitant about trying something new – read the reviews!!! They will have you wanting to read Dead Princess Walking in a heartbeat.
Seriously. Don’t let that it’s a fairytale retelling hold you back. It’s not about zombies or the princess finding her prince. It’s so much more of a fun, action filled, suspenseful adventure quest, you will easily forget anything you’ve known about Snow White! I’ll be sharing the reviews in a few minutes on my author page. Please check them out. Also, if you’ve grabbed a copy and read Dead Princess Walking, or any of my other books, the best way to share them with the world is to leave a review and share it with your friends. One person at a time, we can build a fan base that falls in love with these characters. All three of my books have characters that have captured readers hearts with their humor and realism. Come meet these characters and make some new book friends!!
On that note! For my Crooked Halos fans, I have a treat this Halloween! Desmin and Castle are back together again in another short story adventure. I’ve set a hard goal of finishing this adventure in time to have it published on or just before Halloween. (If you haven’t explored my author page there are two other short stories posted in The Crooked Halos Series)
I love Desmin and can’t wait to share another little glimpse into his and Castle’s past.
The tentative title is Flying Broomsticks and Buns. In this short story, Desmin has been given another chance to work with Castle. This assignment has them searching for a sub-demon that has escaped Hell with a few buddies and he plans on raising some mischief on Halloween. Castle and Desmin are sent to stop the sub-demon – at all costs. Sub-demons are just smart enough to cause trouble but just dumb enough to screw it up royally. They usually leave a trail of devastation behind along with a mess both Heaven and Hell has to contain.
Can Castle and Desmin find the sub-demon in just the two days they’ve been given or will they be left cleaning up its mess? What does the sub-demon have planned? And why are both Heaven and Hell so worried about it that they’ve already told Castle and Desmin don’t bother bringing this one back alive?
Desmin is excited to go hunting demons with Castle but he’s also scared right out of his stuffing! Mark your calendars this Halloween so you don’t miss out on Desmin’s spooky dark adventure!

[Book Review] Dead Princess Walking by L.M. Schukraft
Dead Princess Walking by L.M. Schukraft is such a fun fairytale retelling! I’m a total sucker for good fairytale stories, but this one was really something special! I couldn’t put it down!
Full disclosure: I was given an ARC copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way.
Let’s dive in!
Dead Princess Walking by L.M. Schukraft
Synopsis:
“Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?”
We all know the classic tale of Snow White: a jealous Queen, a beautiful princess, a magic mirror, the Queen trying to kill the beautiful princess… I could go on but I have a secret. There’s another version of the tale.
That Fairytale is so watered down with what was left out, forgotten, or erased that the truth was lost. My story may start off with the jealous Queen and magic mirror but the rest? Well, that’s a different story.
The rest involves a prophecy which sets me on a quest to save all of magic. The prophecy foretold of a savior: one who would be the difference between the rebirth of magic or all of Fae left to fade away.
I knew I was a dead Princess walking when I heard the Queen with the mirror. I ran away with just the pack on my back, leaving my childhood home behind. My only goal when I escaped the castle was to survive.
Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined how my life would change.
That fairytale of a singing maiden isn’t even close to who I really am. Strap up, buckle in, grab some HoneyHarp, and prepare to have your childhood tale flipped upside down.
My name is Snow White, Princess of Aridale. This is my Fairytale.
My thoughts:
Oh my goodness, this was such a fun retelling! I loved how the story started with a bang! Because of this high-action and stressful situation, I was sucked into the tale immediately. After that, there was still a layer of anxiety throughout as the main character continued on her quest. I could not put it down!
The reveal of who, exactly, Snow is was done in such a wonderful way! This easily could have been too over the top or too predictable, but it was spot on. When I read one statement from a certain character, I actually said “Oooh!” right out loud!
Per usual with L.M. Schukraft’s work, I adored the characters!
Snow White- The main character, Snow White, was lovely and brave. I really enjoyed watching her internal struggle with trust, bravery, and of course, her magic. I also really enjoyed how real her internal monologues were.
The Huntsman – Her protector, Hunter, was also lovely! He was your typical headstrong and physically strong guy with the potential to be Snow’s love interest.
The Sprites – Then there were the Sprites. Oh how I loved the Sprites! Binky was definitely my favorite! I loved how feisty and funny he was! Cynthie was lovely. She was Binky’s heart mate, I believe they called it. I loved how she took on a supportive role. Snow White certainly needed that! Then there was Iris , who was such a great leader! She was calm and collected when they needed her the most. I enjoyed learning more about her as she was able to step up toward the end of the book. I wonder if she will play a larger role later.
I was getting nervous with the pacing at one point, as the book was nearing the end and the crew had only found one Coterie Divi. But then I saw that this is going to be a series and I was ecstatic! I cannot wait to read more!
My favorite passages:
His eyes were dark. A blue so dark it felt cold.
My chest started to tighten again as panic tried to get a hold on me. I reminded myself that staying here would mean certain death and leaving would mean living. I couldn’t afford to panic now. I had to keep going.
“You see and hear them, too?”
“Hot steaming Unicorn farts! We are real! Now come on!” the Sprite sneered at us as he flew over to the hedge.
His hair stood straight up, fanning his head like the puff of a dandelion in a shockingly vibrant magenta color.
“Whoa! Watch it!” Binks cried out. “Watch where you put those boats you call feet! Sprite without flight down here!!”
“I’m not concerned,” I totally was. “I ask again, what is your purpose here?”
I could see my eyes reflected in hers. The golden outer ring was bold as it bled into the deeper pink sea like a setting sun. The inner circle sparkled back at me in coral colors dancing with stars in them.
“Well, make my wings sprinkle glitter, he actually might be useful,” Binks muttered as he curled up on a blanket he found.
“She’s the dead princess walking.”
“Binks!”
“What!”
“That was going to be my line!” I threw my hands up. “You took my line!”
My final thoughts:
If you enjoy light and fun fairytale retellings, you have to check out Dead Princess Walking.
This novel is such a refreshing retelling that will keep you engaged straight through the story. But of course, as it is going to be a series, you will be itching to get your hands on the second book when you finish this one. I certainly cannot wait!
Stay tuned, this book will be available this month!
Thanks for reading!

My summer 2018…
I didn’t check my last update before I started this post so forgive me if I repeat things here.
I’ve had a summer of ups and downs. The biggest things that I’ve had to deal with is the passing of my 99 year old grandmother on August 19th, 2018, 9 years to the day that her husband had passed away. My grief hit me hard and then a kind of shocked numbness set in for the week following her death. Now, I’m hit with moments of sadness that brings me to tears. Watching Grey’s Anatomy doesn’t help or maybe it does since I’m letting the grief out by crying here and there.
I’m still dealing with a hip labral tear which has me unable to sit, walk, stand for any length of time without extreme levels of pain kicking in. I’m stuck taking 3 advil just to leave my house and it doesn’t last past 15 minutes of walking. You can imagine how much that hinders writing, editing, posting, and creating covers.
I might be having surgery. I find out if I’m going to this coming Friday. While I’m scared, I’m actually hoping for it because I miss walking faster than a slug in molasses. I miss a lot of things that this injury has deprived me of lately. Functioning daily with a low to extremely high level of pain is draining and in this heat we’ve been having, not entirely all that fun. I was given two shots in my back right hip at the end of June which my body did NOT like. I went through hell for most of July. The pain and side effects were off the charts. I never want to experience that kind of madness again!
On top of that, my print publisher is merging with Amazon so that means using a new format and tool to try and get my files to upload. I had to redo my book’s formatting so many times this time around that I’m regretting my 65 short chapters. I love how they set the pace for the book but changing 65 chapter headers five times over is way more than my hip could handle and took me days at a time to do.
What does all this mean regarding my books?
Well, the biggest thing is it’s meant delays!
It took me a lot of prep time to get Dead Princess Walking to where it is now and I have a few more edits to do but I’m confident with the release date of September 25th, 2018. I will have it ready for release and I’m so excited to have finally set the date.
I sent out the ARC’s much later than I had planned on because my programs changed – updated and I had to redo so many things more times than I could have planned for even with my worst possible OCD planning day imaginable.
The ARC sign up is still open and will be until September 18th, 2018. After checking out reviews, if you want a chance to read Dead Princess Walking for free and give it an honest review, you have time to still sign up!!
Then my grandmother died. That sent me into an emotional tailspin that I’m still fighting to function through.
Reviews are coming and are wonderful so far! I can’t wait to read the others as they come in. I know I wrote Dead Princess Walking but it really is a lovely read. It reminds me of the Princess Bride, Labyrinth and characters from a few of my favorite books. Take a chance on this new series!
Once I get Dead Princess Walking uploaded with edits, I’ll be able to get back to writing Crooked Halos book 2. I would love time to create the cover for it and promotional images but I’m not pushing my body more than I can and I’m just going to have to take this one day at a time for now.
Dead Princess Walking has a release date!! Mark your calendars for September 25th, 2018!!

Coming late August/early September is a new series by L. M. Schukraft! You’ve never heard Snow White told like this!
From Dead Princess Walking:
~ Celestia had set me on a quest. Touching the Elkcorn had done more than just call Celestia. It had awoken something in me. Since my mother died, I’ve felt like a part of me has been sleeping.
I don’t feel that way any more. ~
Dead Princess Walking is a YA/Adult Fairy Tale retelling of Snow White.
DEAD PRINCESS WALKING
By: L. M. SCHUKRAFT
Blurb:
“Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?”
Hearing the Queen ask the magic mirror that question made my blood run cold.
It was only a matter of time before the Queen would come for me.
I knew I was a dead Princess walking.
My time was up.
Either I ran now or accepted my fate.
I was never one to just accept anything but I had no idea what fate had in store for me after that day.
I grew up with tales of the Fae and a prophecy whispered in the night. After the Thousand Years War, the Fae were hunted and banished into the Fairy Mounds, left to fade away. Now, in one afternoon after being rescued by a Sprite, I’m expected to abandon everything I was ever told.
I’d held on to a secret for my whole life. Not because of some long gone prophecy but because I didn’t want to be hunted, banished, or worse, and yet here I was, running from the Queen, hunted like prey.
My name is Snow White, Princess of Aridale. This is my Fairy Tale.
