REVIEW: Flying Broomsticks and Buns has a fun review by Trail of tales
Merry Christmas Eve!
I realize not everyone celebrates Christmas. I celebrate the spirit of the holiday. The coming together with friends and family. The giving, the food, having a day to just be and take time to appreciate the little things.
May your day be filled with joy and light!
I’ve fallen a little bit behind on a number of things. I needed a creative recharging and to feed my arts and crafts parts of my soul.
Upon finding how long a break I’d taken from updating my blog and writing, I’ve set some goals to get back on track hopefully!
I’ll be doing my own version of NaNoWriMo for January which should help get the second book in the Crooked Halos series finished.
I hope to be updating my author page headers and creating some new images as well as the cover for Book 2.
If I get the cover created, I can set up Book 2 for pre-order. I’d have to set the date out to middle of March 2019 to have enough time for ARC’s, editing, and promoting the next book.
I’m going to try to pace myself a little bit better this year regarding writing so I don’t get burned out again.
I’m still pining for a 2-in-1 laptop/tablet with some power so that I have better options to create my covers – mainly because of my injury. It seriously limits how much I can get done in a day.
All in all, it’s been a great year with publishing three books! Finishing Locked Out after all these years was amazing. I love the characters and can’t wait to write their next adventure!
Then publishing Dead Princess Walking was a fantastically fun piece to get lost in. I’m a total fan of the re-telling, Snow White, Binks, Hunter, Iris, and they are calling for me to write their next quest.
Finally bringing to life a little Castle and Desmin novella was a such a treat. I have more holiday adventures I’d love to write for those characters.

Flying Broomsticks and Buns – A Crooked Halos Novella
[image error]
A sub-demon has escaped Hell and is planning something truly devious for Halloween. Sub-demons are some of the scariest creatures to try and capture. They are just smart enough to cause trouble and stupid enough to screw it up. They know what will happen if they’re caught and will fight anyone that tries it. This sub-demon already has a deadly reputation.
Castle and Desmin have been sent to retrieve the sub-demon before he can cause chaos. They only have a day or two to find the creature or this might wind up a clean-up mission.
With only a short time to find the sub-demon, they call on the local supernaturals to help them. Who will survive when all Hell breaks loose?
Flying Broomsticks and Buns is a Crooked Halos Series Novella, published October 31, 2018. It is available for purchase HERE!

[Novella Review] Flying Broomsticks and Buns by L.M. Schukraft
Flying Broomsticks and Buns by L.M. Schukraft is a novella that was released on Halloween… While the demons may have been up to a few tricks, this read was an absolute treat!
Oh my goodness. When I first saw L.M. Schukraft post about how she was creating a novella for Halloween, I could not wait to get my hands on a copy! I preordered the story just as soon as the Amazon link went live and dove in as soon as it was released!
I so wish I could have sat around all Halloween night to read straight through. Unfortunately, I was too busy to do so, so I read this over the course of three days. Even so, it was a wonderful read!
Let’s dive into my review!
Flying Broomsticks and Buns by L.M. Schukraft
In this novella, we are back in action with Desmin and Castle while they are on an assignment to track down a sub-demon who has escaped Hell before that demon can fulfill their crazy plan and cause total chaos.
When the pair first landed, I was thrilled to see that they were in Salem, Massachusetts! Of course, based on the history, that is a great setting for a Halloween tale. The author did a wonderful job setting the scene in a short amount of time as Castle walked through town, carrying Desmin.
I could not wait to see what form Desmin was going to be in, and when it was announced for the first time, I laughed right out loud! I won’t give it away here, but trust me, it’s another perfect pick for a Halloween tale!
Let me just stop right here and say… Desmin is one of my all time favorite characters. He is hysterical! I love how sarcastic he can be and the things that come out of his mouth always makes me chuckle. I also love that he makes pop culture references and teases Castle for not understanding. And the fact that he made a Deadpool reference? Just perfect.
Divide, distract, and conquer. Pit my enemies against each other.
It’s not much but it might buy me some time. I needed to channel
my best impression of Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool. That
man was made for that character. IT was time for me to use my
sassy gift and annoy these ugly beasts from Hell to distraction.
My favorite passages:
“You want me to do what?” I stared at the Limbo angel like she had grown an extra head. Don’t look at me like that! It’s entirely possible. You’d be surprised how many creatures I’ve seen sprout and extra head.
On Hades buffed butt cheeks, I swear it.
Seraphina sniffed at me, her nose so high up I was surprised there wasn’t ice dripping off the tip of it.
I was pretty sure the earth stood still for a heartbeat there because I was so shocked words failed me. Yeah, that shocked!
Castle must wear special shoes or something because I had no warning. He just appeared behind Seraphina, strolling around her like he was taking a walk in the park. She gaped at him like he was a cookie and she was two weeks into a new diet.
And I was promptly scared right out of my sweet nibblets.
There was something in the bed. I was sure of it now. There was no way it was friendly either. Friendly stuff doesn’t slide all up in your bed in the middle of the night. Not in this crazy fear factor Bed and Nightmares-r-us.
“And what if she’s not?” I had to play devil’s advocate (no pun intended but hardy-har-har).
Her walls and rainbow colored portraits of cats, kittens, and cupcakes.
I think we’ve found the end of the Skittles rainbow. I was getting a cavity from just looking at all the sweetness.
Castle’s obvious lack of watching Scooby-Doo cartoons and horror movies was going to get me killed, I just know it.
“Can we talk about this?” I tried backing up but was met with cold stone. “I’m sorry about your buddies but they aren’t supposed to be here. Maybe we could go get a beet or something?”
The zombies were closing in on me. One groaned and it’s jaw dropped to the ground.
“Okay, maybe not a beer…”
My final thoughts:
I had SO much fun reading this short. I cannot wait to see these two again!
Thanks for reading!

Are you looking for a fun Halloween Adventure? Something reminiscent of the 80’s horror films like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street (except not so much cut ’em up but more the suspense and humor)? Then you might want to give Flying Broomsticks and Buns a try

It’s live! No wait – it’s early! No wait – it’s in review! Indie Publishing fun facts
So here’s a fun factoid about working with independent publishers like Amazon and Createspace:
It’s very difficult to plan an exact release date unless you set up the Kindle version as pre-order.
The book files have to go through a review process that can take up to 72 hours.
If you submit the file 3 days before the release date, you might have your book go live earlier than you promoted and planned on.
If you submit the file the day before, since they’ve been so fast in the past, you might end up where I am right now: stalking your email waiting for that notice it’s been published and praying it happens today.
So folks, we are not-so-patiently waiting for my book, Flying Broomsticks and Buns, to get through the review process! Hopefully it will today.
Of course, moments after I hit submit, I’ve found a couple errors. This was written pretty fast and I expect an error here or there. My last book went through over 20 read throughs as well as an ARC review group and I just found an error in the prologue. It happens. Of course, I wish it didn’t but doing this all by myself (except for my helpful reviewers), I’ll take a few minor typos. Major publications have them. It just supports that good old saying, “Nobody’s perfect.”

Dead Princess Walking by @L.M. Schukraft

5* review by Nicole @ Emerald Book Reviews——>
Every girl who grew up on the classic fairy-tales usually transforms into a woman that can appreciate the magic and beauty and romance hidden in each story. Sure there are flaws to be found when you’re seeing the story through a set of more worldly eyes but when you’re willing to suspend that cynical, critical eye, good things happen.
Author LM Schukraft has taken the key plot points, the one dimensional protagonists, comical sidekicks and bland magic of the classic Snow White and altered it into this fantastic, multi-faceted, whirlwind adventure of monumental proportions. Dead Princess Walking is an engaging, charming and utterly delightful fantasy escapade, with a princess that has integrity, spirit and knowledge and a hero that recognises her worth.
What actually made this book so much fun and so easy to immerse myself in, was the levels of magic and the various magical creatures that inhabited the pages and chapters, that gave the ‘comedy’ element as well as the excitement and the protection.
‘The sounds turned out not to be leaves but voices, thousands of tiny voices calling to us. I finally looked behind us and saw a swarm of Wood Sprites coming out of the hedges.
“Are you seeing what I’m seeing?” Hunter whispered to me.
“If it’s a cloud of Wood Sprites calling to us, then yes, I am.”‘
L.M describes everything to perfection so you feel like you’re really there, truly looking at these powerful beings in front of you, fighting with magic and wits, running and hiding for your life. Dead Princess Walking is a remarkable take on a classic fairy-tale, if I’m honest the most boring of the classics. Yet L.M brings it to life, adds her own tremendous artistry to it, expands on it, elevating it into another level of awesome.
“Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?”
We all know the classic tale of Snow White: a jealous Queen, a beautiful princess, a magic mirror, the Queen trying to kill the beautiful princess… I could go on but I have a secret. There’s another version of the tale.
That other Fairytale is so watered down with what was left out, forgotten, or erased that the truth was lost. My story may start off with the jealous Queen and magic mirror but the rest? Well, that’s a different story.
The rest involves a prophecy which sets me on a quest to save all of magic. The prophecy foretold of a savior: one who would be the difference between the rebirth of magic or all of Fae left to fade away.
I knew I was a dead Princess walking when I heard the Queen asking the mirror that question. I ran away with just the pack on my back, leaving my childhood home behind. My only goal when I escaped out of the castle was to survive.
Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined how my life would change.
That other Fairytale of a singing maiden isn’t even close to who I really am. Strap up, buckle in, grab some HoneyHarp, and prepare to have your childhood tale flipped upside down.
My name is Snow White, Princess of Aridale. This is my Fairytale.
