A new fantasy novel, plus library news.

Have you been wondering about my next book? To Stream an Ocean, the final novel in the Arts of Substance trilogy, is getting so close! The day to show you the cover has arrived. First, a little hint of what the main character is facing.

Duties of our new king:

* Find the murderer of the last king before he kills you.
* Discover how the royal fortune was stolen.
* Halt corruption among the guilds of the gifted.
Not enough? We also don’t know why the neighboring country has gone silent—but don’t worry about the quakes or submerged volcano.
Have a nice reign.

To Stream an Ocean (Arts of Substance #3) by Sharon Rose

Do you prefer sunrise or a new year?

Do you enjoy new beginnings? Is the start of a new year a big deal or just another day on the calendar?

To be honest, I love the new beginning of a sunrise way more than January 1st. Or January at all. It makes me want to curl up in a warm place, not rush outside to accomplish great things. (Living in Minnesota may have something to do with this. How about we move the new year to April 1st?)

Calendars aside, it's important to have new beginnings. They provide impetus and add freshness to creativity. After launching a new book, I often take a month off, then begin again on the next book. I do quarterly writing challenges because once a year isn't enough. And I pause after sunrise to consider the day ahead.

These are some new beginnings that work for me. What works for you?

A new release and a free book

It’s time to celebrate a new fantasy book release!
To Weave the Wind
Arts of Substance – Novel 2

I like to do something special for a release. This time, I’m offering the first-in-trilogy ebook, To Form A Passage, free until October 24, 2024. These stand-alone novels are set in different generations in the same fantasy world, where the gifted have power over rock, water, or air. Even though the stories follow different characters, I think you’ll enjoy them together.

The free book and purchase links are here: To Weave the Wind release .

You can find the Goodreads reviews here:

A book I enjoyed:

Song of the Selkies by Sarah Pennington

This delightful fantasy serves up what I love best in a story: rich characters, intrigue, mystery, and a side of romance. I'm not alone in loving it. This novel recently took home two Realm Awards for Fantasy and Book of the Year. I highly recommend it. Click the cover to find out more.

To Form A Passage novel release

Hi reading friends,

I’m no good at acting cool when I release a new book. I am over-the-top thrilled to tell you that my new fantasy novel, To Form a Passage is now available! (If you hear a distant echo of cheering, that’s probably me.)

This is the first of three stand-alone fantasy novels in the Arts of Substance trilogy. You don’t have to wait for all three of them to come out before you can enjoy a complete story.

Here is a non-official peek at what you will find in this novel: Courage when surrounded by fear. A culture that values invention. Power over elements. Touches of romance. Heros in their forties. A few people who dare to do the wise thing when everyone else is doing the fearful thing.

To Form a Passage (Arts of Substance, #1) by Sharon Rose Find the official description here. By the way this novel is also available in Kindle Unlimited.

I hope you enjoy it!

CAN FEAR BE CONQUERED? HERE’S MY STORY…

Life threw a plot twist at me. It didn't even have the decency to foreshadow the event. Very rude. I had no time for this in the middle of launching a book! Ironically, my personal plot twist (a heart attack) touched on a theme from my upcoming novel—fear.

That’s the beauty of fantasy stories. You can take a concept out of our everyday world, look at it differently, and gain new insights. But do the insights work in the real world?

After experiencing a heart attack, I can report that conquering fear works as well in practice as it does in a fantasy adventure.

Here's my reality story:

You may have heard that heart attack symptoms can be confusing in a woman. True. Every woman that I’ve told this to asks me for the details, so I’ll be complete... Read more.

My next fantasy novel and an offer for you

Don't you think it's time I publish a new book? I do!

My next book is getting closer. It's now receiving a final polish, as my editor searches out those pesky typos that conceal themselves in plane site--ahem, plain sight.

To Form A Passage will be the first of three stand-alone novels. They will all be set in the same fantasy world, but each will feature different characters, gifts, and dilemmas. Here is a little teaser for the whole set.
Arts of Substance - A Trilogy
In the land of Welcia, the three Substance Gifts promise safety and plenty. Wind Weavers control the weather, Streamers command the waterways, and Formers draw out the mineral wealth hidden deep underground. It's easy to forget that disasters can still happen—and easier yet to blame the gifted when they do.

The first novel is the story of the Formers who release precious ores and build amazing structures. Soon, I will tell you more about Devron, who just wants to create art. He has no such luxury when a mysterious warning of collapse brings chaos to his beloved underground city.

My Offer to You
Would you like to read this book before it's published? Do you like to leave online reviews, or would you like to learn how? If so, I invite you to join my Advance Reader Team. To sign up, visit this blog post on my website.

Happy reading!

When Your Dream Becomes Reality

Dreams. The enemy of ordinary. Practical voices will tell you not to waste your time on dreams. Notice how the word waste subtly slips into negative advice. Wouldn’t a better word be to spend your time on dreams? Or invest time in them?

Friendship is love too.

Friendship

The kind of love that goes anywhere.

You can share it inside or outside of family. You can share it with that one person who thinks exactly like you do, or with the one who seems like your total opposite. You can share it with many different sorts, in different ways, all at the same time.

What a precious gift! So special, it even has its own flower: a yellow rose.

So hug a friend…or fist bump…or text…or whatever fits your style.

Happy Palentine’s Day to all my reading friends.
