New Spotify Playlist: WIP 2019

Dear Readers,If you're anything like me, you're all about the music. Whether you're writing, working out, getting work done, or just hanging out, the right soundtrack can make all the difference! With the launch of CIRCUIT FAE 4: NEMESISon September 10, I'm gearing up to share some of my very best playlists for all my projects. The project I'm the most excited for is my new work-in-progress (WIP) for book one of the series to follow CIRCUIT FAE. It's so fresh and shiny new, I don't even have a working title for it yet. What I can tell you is that it's going to have witches and dragons in it. And a very slow-burn enemies-to-lovers lesbian romance. Here's a few of the songs I've been listening to while outlining, brainstorming, and prepping my zero draft.I hope you like my new WIP_2019 Playlist!Enjoy!xoxo~GIE

Writing Tip: Hashtag Hack

Dear Readers, After a week off for good behavior (I typically don't blog in 5th weeks of the month), I'm back with a cool outlining hack for writers. If you're anything like me, your outline is probably about one-third as long as your actual book. No, but really. *stares in plotter* I do a full chapter-by-chapter outline for each book, revising it in between drafts. I usually have everything from GMCs to worldbuilding notes to actual dialogue in my outline, so it can be challenging to find things once they're in there. The solution is very simple: hashtags! Along with color coding for elements like plot or theme (I use BLUE text for plot elements and PURPLE for theme), I add hashtags to any areas I might want to quickly find later. Then, all I have to do is type the hashtag into Word's Navigation bar, and everything I tagged pops right up. Reader, it's been a lifesaver. A few tips:1. Use hashtags sparingly! When I started, I was tagging EVERYTHING, which isn't as useful as it sounds because when everything is significant, nothing is. 2. Choose hashtags that chart a progression over time. For instance, one of my tags is #powers. By tagging significant uses of #powers throughout the story, I can chart the progression of the characters' powers and see their growth.3. Include a short list of hashtags in your footer. That way, you don't forget which ones you used. 4. Consider using some of the same core hashtags.Tags like #plot, #theme, and #GMCs can be really helpful no matter what you're writing.5. Use a #SUMMARY hashtag beneath your chapter headings.I just started writing short 1-2 sentence summaries beneath my chapter headings. Not only does this give me at-a-glance views of each chapter, I can use these short summaries as the zero draft of my synopsis. We all hate writing those things, so why not make it easier? Here are the current hashtags I'm using:#theme#plot#powers#soulmates: to track the love story and how it unfolds#ewound: to signal the main characters' emotional wound#GMCsBest of luck with all your writing endeavors!xoxo,~GIE

Circuit Fae: Hogwarts Houses

Hello, Readers! Let's talk about everyone's favorite Harry Potter pastime--figuring out which Hogwarts House you are. Me? I'm a Gryffindor, through and through. Brave (sometimes to the point of recklessness), but loyal and true. But enough about me! Let's talk CIRCUIT FAE characters!SYL SKYEYou've probably already guessed it: Syl's about as Gryffindor as you can get! The fair Fae princess's optimism and never-give-up attitude suits the House of the Brave and Courageous. Plus, her magic is sunlight and all things Summer. What's more Gryffindor than that? ROUEN RIVOCHEThe Sorting Hat says: Slytherin! And not just because she's Syl's complete opposite. Whether she's performing as goth violinist Euphoria or fighting Circuit Fae, Rouen's cunning, creative, and ambitious. After all, it's not every day a dark Fae princess tries to team up with their mortal enemy, the fair Fae. PRU PRENTISSPru's our resident Hufflepuff. The de facto "mom" of the group, she always makes sure everyone's well hydrated and has enough snacks when fighting Circuit Fae. She's a protectress first and foremost, and she cares about everyone, even when it's hard. Above all, she's loyal to her friends. A true 'Puff! LENNON VANRowena Ravenclaw would've been proud to have Lennon in her House. Lenn's brilliant mind has saved our intrepid heroines more than once, and her ingenuity with her minicomputer (her "deck") is second to none. Often when there's no other way out, Lenn's Ravenclaw wit and wisdom saves the day!Drop me a line and let me know what Hogwarts House you are!xoxo,~GIE
