Quick news roundup
A couple of quick announcements to brighten your Friday afternoon.
Between a Witch and a Hard Place (Vanessa Kinley, Witch PI, Book 1) is now available as a paperback at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and IndieBound. Bookstores and libraries can order copies through Ingram.
I thought I'd found an audiobook narrator for Nessa's first novel. Alas! She had to back out. The search is ongoing, but I promise to keep everyone updated through the Facebook group and the newsletter (or here!).
I'm slowly dipping my toes back into writing after taking some time off to recover from illness and burnout. Keep an eye here for more news.
In the meantime, The Single Witch's Guide to Online Dating is 100% free right now. I think I completely forgot to announce that here! So go pick up a copy and have fun diving into a supernatural mystery of the Urban Fantasy variety. There are werewolves. Need I say more?
Happy weekend reading!

Cover Art Galore
The last few months have been a whirlwind of activity, aside from the holiday frenzy.
For one, I just launched a new series, the Vanessa Kinley, Witch PI Series. Between a Witch and a Hard Place, the first of four novels and a prequel novella, came out on November 30th.
The cover for the first book was originally a premade Kindle Vella cover I spotted on the Facebook page for Nocturne Art. It's a one thing led to another kinda thing, but that's what sparked the entire series.
Here are all five books, in chronological order, for your viewing pleasure.

I've set tentative release dates for the other books in the series and will have more news on that as the dates approach.
While the design team at Nocturne Art was working on creating covers for Nessa, I approached another designer to create new covers for the Sunshine Walkingstick Series. The first three books have been out for four years. It was time for an update.
Sadly, that other designer and I had to part ways shortly into the process. That turned out to be fortuitous, as Nocturne Art agreed to give Sunny a brand new look. Here those are in all their gloriousness.

Yes, that's the official cover for Vampire Alley, Book 6, which I have been talking to y'all about off and on since Book 5, Devil's Branch's release in November 2020.
Sunny and I sat down and had a long chitchat about Vampire Alley. For one, we were both disappointed that Book 6 couldn't be released in 2021. This year has been a reset year, where I thought long and hard about the direction I wanted to go in between packing and moving the contents of various houses. The Kindle Vella cover was the deciding factor, and y'all know what happened there.
But as for Sunny's story, my goal was to publish a book every twelve to eighteen months until the series was complete. Due to that big reset (and 2021's reset was huge), there will be a bigger gap between Devil's Branch and Vampire Alley.
Not too much bigger, though. I'm aiming for a release date in November 2022, which gives me an entire year to think about and write Vampire Alley.
Now, there are a few covers I can't share today because I don't have stories to go with them yet. I picked up five new premade ebook covers from Nocturne Art during their Small Business Saturday sale a few days back. Two of the covers may turn into spinoff series for characters from Nessa's story world, only one of whom have y'all met. The other three covers? I haven't decided yet, but they are gorgeous and I can't wait to share them with you.

Vanessa Kinley, Witch PI’s first novel is here!
Between a Witch and a Hard Place (Vanessa Kinley, Witch PI, Book 1) is now available on Amazon and through the Kindle Unlimited program.
I've had so much fun diving into Nessa's world with its plethora of supernatural creatures, and I'm even more excited to see where it's going. There's something afoot in Crossville, y'all, and this story was just the beginning.
Go have fun with Nessa, her twin brother Nick, and the rest of the characters in Between a Witch and a Hard Place. Happy reading!

Coming Soon: Between a Witch and a Hard Place
If you're in the fan group over on Facebook or subscribed to my newsletter, you've already seen the gorgeous cover for my brand new story.
Let's pause for a moment to admire the stunning design. Actually, we should take a moment to praise the designer, Nocturne Cover Art, because if I hadn't seen the Kindle Vella premade off which this cover is based, you wouldn't now be anticipating a new story from me.
All hail the great and powerful Nocturne Cover Art!
*ahem*
Between a Witch and a Hard Place is the first book in the Vanessa Kinley, Witch PI Series. It's up for preorder now on Amazon (where it will be exclusive for a little bit) and will be available to read on 30 November 2021.
I'm not ready to discuss the rest of the series yet (still roughing out plot threads and such), but the covers Nocturne is turning out for the earlier books are amazing. I'll show those off soon, especially the one for the introductory short story, which I'm working on right now and hope to have out to you by the end of October.
This is shaping up to be such an interesting, fun story world. I'll have more about the characters and individual stories as the release date for Between a Witch and a Hard Place nears.

Christopher D. Schmitz
Cindy Carroll
D. Gabrielle Jensen
Katherine Tomlinson

A Vision in Death is here!
The ebook edition of A Vision in Death (A Kaya Fox Story) is now available.
This one has a bit of a, well, story behind it.
I've dithered off and on for years trying to decide if I wanted to step outside the Sunshine Walkingstick story world. I won't go into all the sordid business details (like whether I really wanted to focus on this pen name or just have fun with Sunny along and along), but one thing did jump out at me from conversations with other authors: Releasing a second series helps bring more readers to the first one.
I could've dived right in. Lord knows I've got enough ideas to float a boat, some of which are perfectly viable for readers who love Sunny & Co.
Instead, I turned to a reader and ran some story ideas by her. I thought for sure she'd pick the werewolf idea (she loves all things shifter!). Nope! She chose a psychic.
To get my brain to cooperate, I worked on another idea (about witches) for a while. Sure enough, that tricked my fickle muse well enough that a concept came forward in the form of a character. And that character was Kaya Fox.
Kaya is a psychic who was, due to a tragic event, endowed with the dubious gift of foretelling a person's death. It's not as easy or simple as that, but that gives you the gist.
A Vision in Death takes place partway through a cross-country trek while she's searching for the locality of a particularly greusome vision. It lays out many of the rules of the story world and, I think, gives readers a fairly good grasp of her character.
Subscribers to the newsletter received this one for free. If they like it, more Kaya Fox stories will follow. And if not, there's always those witches.
Happy reading!

The Devil’s Branch audiobook is here!
The audiobook edition of Devil's Branch (Sunshine Walkingstick, Book 5) is now available at Amazon and Audible. It will be available on iTunes within a week or so.
Rebecca Winder did a fantastic job narrating this one, as usual. She really has a talent for bringing the characters to life, especially Sunny, and is such a joy to work with.
What are you waiting for? Go grab a copy and have an enjoyable afternoon with Sunny & Co.!
