Learning to Let Go | Preschool and School Age
Read part one of this series here.
Striving for independence looks different during the various
ages and stages of children’s lives. And when they start their striving,
children do so with gusto. The hard thing about parenting is that as soon as we
get one stage figured out, our kids want to grow and change!

30 Free and Fun Things to Do This Summer | Puzzles
If you follow me either on Facebook or Twitter, then you know one of the Goyers' favorite pastimes: puzzles. Two-year-old Alyssa loves puzzles. "Play puzzles with me, Mommy?" I hear every day. Buying a puzzle isn't free, but they aren't that expensive (from one dollar to five dollars). I think the cost is worth it, especially when Alyssa plays with each puzzle a few times a week.

Conversation Starters for Married Couples
Last weekend my husband and I had a weekend away. OK, the truth is we had our two-year-old daughter with us, but we were in Branson (which is a cool place), we didn't turn on our computers for the most part, and we had time just to hang out (when I wasn't signing books or meeting with a book club!).
Before we left I tucked something super special into my purse—something I knew would draw us

Glasses: I increase the fonts onscreen, but if
I have to check a word in the dictionary or look up something from a nearby

Pile of to-be-filed paperwork (don't ask me where)

Gum: for when I get tired
Stickies: because they have to be in my face instead

Learning to Let Go
When my
oldest son, Cory, first learned to walk, I released my hands from his entwined
fingers and encouraged his wobbly, independent steps. On the first day of
preschool, releasing came in waving goodbye from the doorway. I ventured into
the rainy morning while Cory stayed behind surrounded with new friends, toys
and influences.
Soon came sleepovers and dances,
driving lessons and youth

Being Available to God | Part 1
Forty years ago a single, young woman was about to give birth. She
didn’t know how to afford a child without her parents’ help. She hadn’t
talked to her former boyfriend in months. She couldn't reach him, didn't know how
to tell him she was having his child.
This young woman attended church some, yet her dialogue with God
was stilted. How could God let this happen to her? What would her life
