Explore the Deep Ocean with Luna the Anglerfish!

🌊 Hello, friends! Tricia Goyer here! I’m so excited that we are on week five of our Fishy Friday Fun! 🐠🎉 I’m a homeschooling mom of 10, and I love learning right alongside my kids! As a writer, I’ve had so much fun diving into ocean creatures, and today, we’re talking about one of the most fascinating—Luna, the deep-sea anglerfish!

Explore the Deep Ocean with Luna the Anglerfish!

Joining me is Sherri Seligson, a homeschooling mom of four and a marine biologist who writes and teaches all about science. She’s here to help us uncover the mysteries of Luna’s deep, dark world. 🌊💡

Introducing Wonders of the Ocean Realmwonders of the ocean realm by Tricia Goyer

If you haven’t heard yet, our new book, Wonders of the Ocean Realm, is so much more than just a storybook! It’s a springboard for learning that includes:

✅ True-to-life stories of five incredible sea creatures
✅ Breathtaking artwork that draws kids into the underwater world
✅ Scientific facts that make learning fun and engaging
✅ Faith-based reflections to spark deep conversations about God’s creation
✅ Hands-on activities to reinforce what they’ve learned

🦑 Week 5: Luna – Cleaning Up the Ocean & Cleaning Up Our Writing ✍

Deep in the dark ocean, where little light reaches, lives Luna, the deep-sea anglerfish! She carries her own glowing lure to attract food, but she also has to navigate a growing problem—pollution. 🌊🌍

🔬 Science Spotlight: Ocean Conservation & Bioluminescence

🌎 Did you know there are entire islands of garbage floating in our oceans? Called “garbage islands,” they form in the middle of ocean currents called gyres. Trash collects there and pollutes the ocean—impacting creatures like Luna!

🛢 Oil spills are another problem, but natural bacteria can actually help clean them up! Isn’t God’s design amazing?

💡 Fun Fact: Many deep-sea creatures, like Luna, use bioluminescence—a natural glow—to survive in complete darkness. They use it to attract food, communicate, and even scare off predators! Sheri even shows how glow sticks work to explain bioluminescence!

✍ Writing & Storytelling Connection: Cleaning Up Our Writing

Just like the ocean can get cluttered with trash, writing can get cluttered with extra words, unclear sentences, or weak descriptions. Great writers “clean up” their writing to make it stronger!

Let’s look at an example:
Before:
“Luna the anglerfish was swimming in the deep, deep sea where it was super dark, and it was really, really hard to see, and the water was very cold. She had a thing on her head that kind of looked like a fishing pole with a glowing light at the end of it, and she used it to try to get fish to come closer to her, and then she would try to catch them when they got close. There was also a lot of trash floating in the water, like plastic and stuff, which wasn’t good for the ocean at all.”

After:
“Luna the anglerfish swam through the deep, dark ocean. It was cold, and little light reached the sea floor. A glowing lure dangled from her head, flickering in the water. Small fish drifted closer, drawn to the light. With a quick snap, Luna lunged. But floating among the fish was plastic and other trash, polluting her home.”

Cleaner writing = clearer storytelling!

Try this: Write about a time you learned something important and used it to make a change.
📖 What did you learn?
✍ How did you apply it?
🔄 What happened after you made the change?

🎨 Craft Time!

Let’s get creative and turn trash into treasure! 🦑♻ Make your own model of Luna the anglerfish using recycled materials!

🟢 Materials:
✔ Egg carton (body)
✔ Paper strips (fins)
✔ Cardboard (teeth)
✔ Aluminum foil or pipe cleaner & bead (glowing lure)

💡 Faith Connection: Teamwork & God’s Design

Even in the deepest parts of the ocean, God provides for His creation! 🌊✨ Luna has a special relationship with glowing bacteria—they help her survive, and she gives them a place to live. This is called symbiosis, and it reminds us that we’re meant to work together too!

🙌 Teamwork makes us stronger, brighter, and better! Just like Luna and her bacteria, we all have different gifts and skills. Tricia and Sheri worked together—one bringing the science, the other bringing the storytelling—and Wonders of the Ocean Realm wouldn’t exist without teamwork!

Think about a time when working with others helped you accomplish something great. How did it feel to be part of a team?

💬 Comment Below: What’s one way you can help keep the ocean clean? 🌎

Rekindling Love

7 Simple Ways to Reconnect with Your Spouse and Strengthen Your Marriage

Spring is beginning to peek out from under winter’s heavy blanket, but the chill of cold days still lingers. While we may be eager to spend long evenings strolling hand in hand or sitting side by side watching the sunset, sometimes the weather (or life!) gets in the way. But don’t worry, meaningful connection with your spouse doesn’t require a tropical getaway or perfect weather.

Rekindling Love: 7 Simple Ways to Reconnect with Your Spouse and Strengthen Your Marriage

Marriage is one of God’s greatest gifts, a reflection of His love and commitment to us. It is meant to be nurtured, strengthened, and enjoyed.

Ephesians 5:33 reminds us, “However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.”

A happy, healthy marriage doesn’t just happen; it’s built through small, intentional moments of love and togetherness.

Whether you’ve been married for five months or fifty years, here are seven ways to reconnect with your spouse and experience the deep joy God designed for your marriage.

1. Cuddle Without Distractions

In today’s world, it’s easy to sit side by side while scrolling on your phones or watching TV, but true connection happens when you are able to give your spouse your full attention. Send the kids to another room with a movie and some popcorn, turn off the screens, and simply be with each other. Recline together, hold hands, chat about your day, or sit in comfortable silence.

"Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor." – Romans 12:102. Browse a Bookstore Together

There’s something nostalgic and fun about wandering through a bookstore with your spouse. You don’t have to buy anything—just explore! Laugh at funny titles, flip through cookbooks, or reminisce in the children’s section about your favorite childhood reads. It’s a simple, lighthearted way to spend time together and spark conversation.

"A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." – Proverbs 17:223. Cook a Meal as a Team

Pick a new recipe—something you wouldn’t normally try alone—and make it together. Cooking as a couple fosters teamwork, playfulness, and communication. Even if the meal doesn’t turn out perfect, don’t stress! The experience of creating something together is what matters.

"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil." – Ecclesiastes 4:94. Take a Drive and Explore

Crank up your favorite oldies or worship music and go for a drive with no destination in mind. Explore a part of town you haven’t visited in a while or take the scenic route through the countryside. This simple adventure can spark laughter, reminiscing, and meaningful conversations.

"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." – Psalm 118:245. Dream About the Future Together

Even if a vacation to Hawaii or a cabin in the mountains isn’t in the budget right now, it’s fun to dream together! Be as realistic (or not) as you want. Browse travel websites, look at dream homes, or talk about long-term goals. Dreaming together strengthens your bond and reminds you that you’re on this journey side by side.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." – Jeremiah 29:116. Give Each Other a Relaxing Massage

Grab some lotion, take turns massaging each other’s hands and feet, and enjoy the simple act of touch. Life is busy, and we often forget the power of physical closeness outside of routine hugs or kisses. Slow down and reconnect in this simple but deeply meaningful way.

"Let all that you do be done in love." – 1 Corinthians 16:147. Pray Together

One of the most intimate ways to reconnect with your spouse is through prayer. Take a few moments each day to hold hands and pray for each other, your family, and your future. Bringing your concerns, dreams, and gratitude before God strengthens your marriage spiritually and emotionally.

"Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing." – 1 Thessalonians 5:11Building a Marriage That Reflects God’s Love

Love isn’t just about grand gestures or once-a-year holidays; it’s about the small, daily acts of kindness, connection, and devotion. When we take the time to reconnect with our spouse, we honor the commitment we made before God.

So, whether it’s cuddling on the couch, cooking dinner together, or saying a simple prayer before bed, make the time to love each other well. Marriage is a beautiful journey, and with intentionality, faith, and a little creativity, you can deepen your bond and experience the fullness of love that God designed.

The Power of Prayer in Relationships

Preparing for a Godly Marriage

When I was a teenager, I thought love would complete me. Like many girls, I dreamed about the perfect guy—one who would love me unconditionally, sweep me off my feet, and fill every empty place in my heart. But by the time I turned fifteen, I’d already experienced heartbreak, disappointment, and regret.

The Power of Prayer in Relationships

I was searching for love, but I was searching in all the wrong places. After one broken relationship after another, I found myself alone, hurting, and wondering if I’d ever find a man who truly loved me. That’s when I learned something life-changing: before I could love someone else well, I needed to surrender my heart to God completely.

That surrender led me to something even more powerful—I began to pray for my future husband. Not just a one-time, “God, please send me the perfect guy” prayer, but daily prayers for his heart, his faith, and his future.

And something incredible happened. My prayers didn’t just impact the man I would one day marry—they changed me.

If you’re longing for a godly marriage, let me encourage you: start praying now. Even if you don’t know his name yet, God does. And your prayers today will help build the foundation of the marriage you’ll have tomorrow.

Why Should You Pray for Your Future Spouse?

It’s easy to get caught up in the idea of “finding the right person,” but have you ever thought about becoming the right person? Prayer does exactly that. When you commit to praying for your future spouse, three amazing things happen:

1. Prayer Aligns Your Heart with God’s Will

We all have dreams for our future, but God’s plans are always better. Praying for your future spouse helps you surrender your own desires and trust that God’s timing and choice for your life are perfect.

"God proves to be good to the man who passionately waits, to the woman who diligently seeks." (Lamentations 3:25, The Message)

2. Prayer Prepares You for Marriage

Marriage is more than romance—it’s a lifelong commitment. Praying for your future spouse also means praying for yourself. Ask God to shape your heart, refine your character, and prepare you to be a godly husband or wife.

3. Prayer Builds a Spiritual Foundation for Your Relationship

Long before you ever meet your future spouse, prayer creates a covering over your future marriage. It invites God to work in both of your lives, setting you both on the right path.

How to Pray Specifically for Your Future Spouse

It’s one thing to pray, “Lord, bless my future husband.” It’s another thing to pray with purpose and intention. Here are key areas to focus on when praying for your future spouse:

1. Pray for His (or Her) Heart

Ask God to make your future spouse’s heart soft toward Him. Pray that they would seek God first in everything.

Prayer Example: Lord, I pray that my future husband will love You above all else. Give him a heart that desires to follow You fully. Draw him closer to You every day.

2. Pray for Their Character

Character matters more than charm. Pray that your future spouse will grow in wisdom, patience, integrity, and faithfulness.

Prayer Example: Lord, help my future husband develop a heart of kindness, patience, and honesty. Shape him into a man who walks in integrity.

3. Pray for Their Relationships

Surroundings influence our hearts. Pray that your future spouse will have godly friends, mentors, and a strong faith community.

Prayer Example: Lord, I ask that my future spouse is surrounded by godly influences. May they have wise friends and mentors who encourage them to walk in Your truth.

4. Pray for Their Spiritual Growth

A strong marriage is built on a shared faith. Pray that your future spouse will continue growing in their relationship with Jesus.

Prayer Example: Lord, I pray that my future husband will have a deep hunger for Your Word. May he trust You in all things and grow stronger in faith each day.

5. Pray for Their Challenges

Your future spouse will face struggles before you meet them. Pray that God will strengthen them through every difficulty.

Prayer Example: Lord, whatever my future husband is facing today, I ask that You would be His comfort and strength. Give him faith to overcome every trial.

A Prayer Activity: Writing a Letter to Your Future Spouse

One of the most powerful ways I prepared for marriage was by writing prayers in a journal for my future husband.

Try this:

Write a letter to your future spouse.Pray over it and ask God to bless him (or her) in every area of their life.Keep the letter as a reminder of your commitment to pray.

Who knows? One day, you may give that letter to your spouse as a testimony of God’s faithfulness.

Personal Preparation: Becoming Who You Are Praying For

Before I met my husband, John, I spent years praying for him. But God also revealed something to me: I needed to grow too.

If you desire a godly spouse, ask yourself:
✅ Am I growing in my relationship with God?
✅ Am I developing the character I want in my future husband/wife?
✅ How am I preparing my heart for marriage?

You attract the kind of person you are becoming. So instead of just praying for the right one—focus on becoming the right one.

Final Thoughts: Trusting God’s Timing

I know waiting is hard. There were times when I wondered if I would ever meet the right guy. But looking back, I see that God’s timing was perfect.

"Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns." (Philippians 4:6, The Message)

Wherever you are in your journey, keep praying. Keep growing. Keep trusting. God sees your heart, and He is writing a beautiful love story—one that is beyond anything you could imagine.

FAQs About Prayer for Your Future Spouse

1. When should I start praying for my future spouse?

It’s never too early to start! Even if marriage is years away, your prayers are preparing both your heart and theirs.

2. What if I’m already in a relationship? Should I still pray?

Absolutely! Praying together (and individually) is one of the best ways to strengthen a godly relationship.

3. How do I know if someone is the one God has for me?

Pray for wisdom and discernment. If your relationship honors God, aligns with His Word, and brings peace, it’s a good sign.

4. Can I pray for specific qualities in my future spouse?

Yes! Just be open to God shaping both you and your future spouse according to His perfect will.

5. What if I feel like God isn’t answering my prayers?

Trust that God is working behind the scenes. His timing is perfect, and He is preparing something wonderful for you.

💛 Friend, don’t give up on praying for your future husband or wife. Keep seeking God, keep trusting, and know that His plan for your love story is better than anything you could dream of.

How To Find Peace in Chaos

I know that most of the time I look encouraging to my online friends. Why? Well, I don’t want to be a complainer or a whiner. I truly believe we can do more by lifting up people than tearing people down. We can also live freer by rejoicing than complaining. But this is something I struggle with.

How To Find Peace in Chaos

I often find myself out-of-sync in my day, overstressed and craving peace. Why? Because sometimes I do everything but ask for it. Deep down in the overwhelmingness of kids, marriage, deadlines, mentoring, homeschooling, and keeping up a house, I feel exhausted and trapped. It’s just too much, and I don’t remember to turn to God and to trust Him that everything will turn out. Instead, I attempt to work harder to “get things under control” and I rush around trying to fix things. I worry, complain (mostly in my head), and try to make things happen. I refuse to seek help and I forget how to find peace in chaos. This is so foolish!

be the change

Jesus made this clear to me today when I meditated on this verse this morning:

"The Lord gives strength to his people, the Lord blesses his people with peace." Psalm 29:11

Depending on my strength, I miss God’s. And rushing around, attempting to gain control, I miss peace. Lord, help me!

Of course, Jesus sees this, and today He reminded me (again) what I need to do. And it’s simple. All I have to do is to come to Him.

Jesus FULLY understands all you and I are going through, friend. He completely knows the situation and ALL the stressors we have in life. The best part is He is 100% capable of taking care of the situations… and taking care of me! He is all I need, and when I turn to Jesus all will be provided IN Him and FOR Him, for His glory!

Can I pray for you today?

Lord, right now my friend is so overwhelmed. You know what he/she is going through. Lord, you know the worries, fears, disappointments, and broken dreams that my friend carries deep inside. You know these internal worries are exhibited outwardly in so many ways; none of them good.

Lord, today I’m praying for your child who is reading this. I am praying that you will meet him/her at THIS moment. I pray Your presence will flood like a shower. I pray Your peace will fall like a gentle rain and my friend will surrender to You in the moment and throughout the day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Friend, don’t just read this and be inspired. Take time to go before God today and pray. Know that I’m getting on my knees today for my peace and yours. Jesus desires to come to you and wrap you in His arms of peace. Know that. Trust it.

How To Find Peace in ChaosHow To Find Peace in Chaos. I know that most of the time I look encouraging to my online friends. Why? Well, I don't want to be a complainer or a grumbler. But this is something I struggle with. Tricia Goyer shares more.

Peace isn’t found in a place, it’s found in a person; the person of Jesus Christ. His peace trumps everything else. But we can make choices every day that make His peace easier to find and take ahold of. That’s one reason I wrote The Grumble Free Year. I realized that when I am grumbling and complaining, I am not focusing on the goodness of God and the truth that in Him we have all that we need to be joy-filled.

My family agreed to join me on a year-long journey to stop complaining and to allow God to show up in our circumstances. What we found was amazing and I can’t wait to share it with you. Our journey is available in our book The Grumble Free Year.

Numbers 14-15Trusting God Beyond the Giants

In our spiritual journey, just as in the journey of the Israelites through the wilderness, we are constantly faced with decisions that test our trust in God. Yesterday’s reading on the Daily Bible Podcast brought us to a pivotal moment: the report of the twelve spies sent to explore Canaan. Their return with a cluster of grapes so large it needed two men to carry it confirmed the land’s richness. However, the focus quickly shifted to the giants inhabiting the land, overshadowing God’s promise with fear and doubt.

The Decision to Focus on Giants

The Israelites’ reaction to the spies’ report is a stark reminder of how easy it is to focus on the obstacles in our path rather than on the God who guides us. Their cry to return to Egypt, a place of bondage, rather than face the challenges ahead, reflects a common human impulse to retreat to familiar grounds when faced with uncertainty.

Divine Decisions and Intercession

God’s response to the Israelites’ lack of faith is both severe and merciful. While He decides to punish the generation that doubted His promise with 40 years of wandering, He also shows grace through Moses’ intercession, sparing the nation from immediate destruction. This duality of justice and mercy is a theme that resonates throughout the Bible, reminding us of the consequences of our decisions and the power of intercessory prayer.

 The Importance of Remembering

The instruction for the Israelites to wear tassels as a reminder to obey God’s commands highlights the human tendency to forget. Just as the Israelites needed a physical reminder of their covenant with God, we too need constant reminders of His faithfulness and promises. In a world filled with distractions, the call to remember is as relevant today as it was then.

 Deciding to Trust

The narratives of Caleb and Joshua, who chose to trust in God’s promise despite the giants, contrast sharply with the fear that paralyzed their counterparts. Their decision to believe in God’s ability to deliver His people into the Promised Land is a powerful testament to the importance of faith over fear.

 Learning from the Wilderness

The wilderness journey teaches us that our decisions—whether to focus on the giants in our path or to trust in God’s promises—have profound implications on our trajectory. Trusting God requires us to look beyond our immediate circumstances and to remember His past faithfulness.

As we navigate our own wildernesses, may we decide daily to trust in the Lord with all our hearts, leaning not on our own understanding. Let the story of the Israelites inspire us to fix our eyes on God, rather than the giants, and to walk in faith, believing in His promises.

The wilderness journey of the Israelites serves as a powerful metaphor for our spiritual journey, teaching us the importance of decision-making, trust, and remembrance. As we face our giants, may we choose to remember God’s past deliverances and to trust in His future promises.

Numbers 16-18
Rebellion and Responsibility

The account of Korah’s rebellion against Moses stands out as a poignant reminder of the dangers of pride, the virtue of humility, and the importance of honoring God’s chosen leaders. This episode, detailed in the book of Numbers, not only recounts a dramatic confrontation but also offers timeless lessons on leadership, divine justice, and the human tendency to grumble against God’s providential care.

The story begins with Korah, a Levite, along with Dathan, Abiram, and others, challenging Moses’ leadership and, by extension, God’s authority. They questioned why Moses and Aaron held special leadership positions, seemingly unaware or dismissive of the fact that God had appointed them. Moses’ response to this challenge was not anger or pride but a humble submission to God’s will, saying, “Tomorrow morning the Lord will show us who belongs to him.”

As I reflect on Moses’ reaction, I’m struck by his patience and compassion towards those questioning his leadership. Despite the gravity of their rebellion, Moses still hoped for their understanding, reminding them of their special status as God’s chosen people. This moment highlights a critical lesson for us: in leadership and life, humility and patience in the face of criticism reflect a deep trust in God’s sovereignty.

The subsequent divine judgment was swift and severe, with the earth swallowing the rebels and a fire consuming the 250 men offering incense. This stark outcome is a vivid reminder of the seriousness with which God views rebellion against His ordained order. Yet, in the midst of judgment, Moses’ and Aaron’s intercession for the people showcases the heart of true leadership – a willingness to plead before God on behalf of those under their care, even when facing criticism and rebellion.

The aftermath of the rebellion and the miraculous sign of Aaron’s budding staff further cemented God’s leadership choice and served as a divine stop to the murmuring and discontent among the Israelites. Yet, the narrative also reveals a persistent human flaw: the tendency to grumble and rebel, often forgetting the blessings and provisions of God.

In today’s context, the story of Korah’s rebellion is a powerful call to honor and support those whom God has placed in leadership, particularly in our spiritual communities. It reminds us that criticism and rebellion against God’s appointed leaders dishonor God and can lead to division and distress within the community.

Word of the Day: Honor

Let us live it out by showing high respect and great esteem for those God has placed over us, recognizing their role in His divine plan, and responding with gratitude and support.

So, how can we support and honor our spiritual leaders? Like Moses and Aaron, many leaders serve with a heart for God and His people, often at great personal cost. My father-in-law’s dedication to sharing the gospel, despite financial hardships, exemplifies the sacrificial service many leaders undertake. It challenges us to ask how we might support those who have dedicated their lives to serving God and His people. Could we, perhaps, provide more generously to ensure their needs and those of their families are met?

The rebellion of Korah and its aftermath teach us valuable lessons about humility, divine authority, and the importance of honoring leadership. Let us remember to uphold and support our spiritual leaders, recognizing that in doing so, we honor God Himself. This act of honor, rooted in love and respect, not only strengthens our communities but also aligns our hearts with God’s will, reminding us of the profound truth that to serve and honor God’s servants is to serve and honor God.

Numbers 19-21 Discipline and God’s Love

We find ourselves still in the wilderness with Moses leading the Israelites. The journey has been eventful, with the construction of the Tabernacle, a census, and plenty of complaints from the people. In Numbers 19, the focus is on purification and the consequences of defilement. God’s command regarding the water of purification sets a tone for the seriousness of sin and the need for cleansing.

Moving forward, we witness Moses and Aaron’s unwavering faith and humility when faced with the rebellious nature of the Israelites. Even in moments of frustration, they turn to God, falling face down before the Tabernacle. However, a moment of disobedience costs Moses and Aaron their entry into the Promised Land.

Amidst the challenges, victories arise, and we see the Israelites overcoming obstacles, including the refusal of passage by Edom and the passing of leadership from Aaron to his son Eleazar. The chapter ends on a positive note, with the people singing praises as they travel.

Word of the Day: Rebellion

Rebellion surfaces throughout the reading—whether in Moses striking the rock, the Israelites’ complaints, or King Sihon’s opposition. This term’s application provides insight into the human tendency to resist authority.

How does this apply to us?

1. Purpose in Discipline:

The various trials faced by the Israelites, including plagues, ground openings, and even poisonous snakes, all serve a purpose—to turn the people back to God. Dolly Parton’s song Don’t Make Me Come Down There reflects the same sentiment, reminding us that God disciplines out of love, guiding us toward the right path. God disciplines out of love.

2. Zealous Repentance:

Revelation 3:19-20 reinforces the concept of discipline rooted in love. As God reproves and disciplines those He loves, His desire is for us to be zealous and repentant. Just as a parent disciplines a child for their betterment, God desires our repentance and a restored relationship with Him. “Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent,” God says.

As we wrap up today’s episode, we encourage you to delve into the Word and be the hands and feet of Jesus. Until next time, stay tuned, stay blessed, and remember to let God’s love guide you through each day.

Numbers 22-24
Talking Donkeys

Balak, fearing the might of the Israelites, summons Balaam to curse them. The journey is filled with divine intervention, a talking donkey, and the unexpected twist of Balaam blessing the Israelites instead. Numbers 23:19 reminds us of God’s unwavering nature: “God is not a man, so he does not lie…Has he ever spoken and failed to act?”

The Unexpected Lessons

While we’ve all heard about the talking donkey, let’s delve into some personal takeaways:

God Speaks to All: God used Balaam, a non-Israelite diviner, to convey His message. It’s a reminder that God speaks to everyone, not just the mighty heroes in the Bible.

Animals and Non-Israelite Prophets: This story is significant as it showcases a talking donkey and a diviner speaking God’s words—elements not commonly seen in the Bible.

Prophecy and Connections: Numbers 24:17

A beautiful prophecy unfolds in Numbers 24:17: “A star will rise from Jacob, a scepter will emerge from Israel.” This prophecy echoes themes found in Genesis 3:15 and Romans 16:20, showcasing God’s promise to crush the enemy.

Word of the Day: Speak

Today’s word, “speak,” resonates as God communicates through a donkey and a non-Israelite prophet. It prompts us to consider how God uses unexpected messengers to convey His truth.

Speaking God’s Words

Diverse Messengers: God speaks through diverse channels—animals, non-Israelite prophets, and even talking donkeys. Reflect on how God might be communicating with you today.

Speaking Blessings: Despite the unusual circumstances, God used a diviner to bless His people. Consider the impact of speaking God’s words into the lives of those around you.

Claiming Victory Through Spoken Words

As we unravel the narrative, we witness God’s promise of victory over Satan and death. Numbers 24:17 aligns with the triumph declared in Romans 16:20 and Isaiah 25:8. The word “speak” resonates with the assurance that everything God utters will be fulfilled.

Your Words Matter: Encouragement and Truth

Let’s ponder our words. Just as Balaam spoke God’s truth, consider how you can use your words today. Whether teaching a child, encouraging a friend, or speaking the truth in various relationships, your words have the power to convey God’s love and wisdom.

Numbers 25-26
Counting God’s People

Welcome back, fellow Bible enthusiasts, to another captivating Daily Bible Podcast blog installment! Today, we embark on a thrilling journey through Numbers 25-26, uncovering profound insights, thought-provoking reflections, and timeless truths that resonate with our lives today.

Numbers 25: A Tale of Devotion and Consequence

In Numbers 25, we encounter a sobering narrative of the Israelites’ moral decline as they succumb to the allure of idolatry and immorality. God’s righteous anger is kindled, leading to devastating consequences. However, one man stands out amidst the chaos: Phinehas, whose zealous action brings atonement and earns him a perpetual priesthood. This gripping account underscores the transformative power of zeal in purifying God’s people and averting disaster.

Numbers 26: Counting, Identity, and Divine Purpose

Transitioning to Numbers 26, we witness the meticulous counting of the Israelites, a testament to God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His promises. The census not only enumerates the tribes and their military strength but also highlights the significance of lineage and heritage. Special attention is given to Moses’ family, Aaron, Miriam, and the descendants of Levi, illuminating their unique role in God’s plan.

Reflections on Compromise, Holiness, and God’s Zeal

We reflect on the dangers of compromise and the importance of holiness and draw parallels between the Israelites’ temptation to intermingle with foreign cultures and our modern-day struggles with maintaining spiritual purity. We are reminded that God has called us to be set apart and live lives that honor Him.

Exploring the Significance of Names and Lineage

The enumeration of women in the census reports sparks curiosity about their stories and significance. Our ponderings on the named women prompt us to delve deeper into their identities and roles within the community. Additionally, mentioning Zelophehad’s daughters foreshadows their future significance, inviting anticipation for the unfolding narrative.

Word of the Day: Zeal

Defined as an eager pursuit marked by determination, devotion, and diligence, zeal becomes a recurring theme in the narratives of Phinehas, Moses’ family, and the Israelites.

Living a Life of Zeal

We look at the applications of zeal, linking it to the blessings bestowed upon biblical figures like Caleb, Joshua, and Phinehas. Through reflection, we are encouraged to emulate their fervent pursuit of God and wholehearted devotion to His commands. As recipients of God’s zeal, we are called to reciprocate His love and live lives that glorify Him.

Embracing Zeal for God

Let us be inspired by the examples of zeal displayed by Phinehas, Caleb, and Joshua. May we, too, embrace a life of passion, determination, and devotion in our pursuit of God. Join us next time for more enriching insights from the Daily Bible Podcast. Until then, may your hearts burn with zeal for the Lord!

Numbers 27-29
Leadership Transitions

In Numbers 27, we witness a pivotal moment as the daughters of Zelophehad, facing a unique circumstance, courageously approach Moses with a request to inherit their father’s property. God, in response to their plea, establishes a groundbreaking precedent for inheritance laws. Moreover, in a poignant twist, God reveals to Moses that his time is drawing to a close, and Joshua is appointed as his successor.

The remarkable aspect here is Moses’s selflessness. Despite his challenges in leading the Israelites, he earnestly prayed for a capable leader to guide the community. God, acknowledging Joshua’s spirit, instructs Moses to commission him publicly, symbolically passing on authority and wisdom. This demonstrates Moses’s dedication to the welfare of the people even in his final moments of leadership.

Sacrifices, Offerings, and a Fragrant Aroma

Numbers 28–29 unfold with detailed descriptions of various offerings and sacrifices. While these regulations may seem intricate, it’s crucial to remember their essence: expressions of gratitude, acknowledging God’s goodness, and affirming faithfulness. The offerings were presented as a pleasing aroma to the Lord, a reminder of the reciprocal relationship between God and His people.

The Daughters of Zelophehad: Women in God’s Plan

The narrative of Zelophehad’s daughters provides a unique perspective, emphasizing the significance of women in God’s plan. Their legitimate concerns led to the establishment of a new law ensuring the inheritance for daughters when no sons were present. This highlights that God’s concern for and provision extends to all, regardless of gender.

Word of the Day: Commissioned

Delving into the word of the day, “commissioned,” we recognize its significance in the context of God’s commands and charges to His people. In Hebrew, it translates to laying a charge, giving charge, commanding, or ordering.

Living a Commissioned Life

Reflecting on the commissions and commands throughout Genesis to Numbers, we observe a recurring theme of leaders being chosen by God, equipped with His Spirit. The responsibility of those with God’s Spirit is to listen and obey. This prompts us to ponder our individual commissions – what work God has called us to, who we are called to lead, and how we depend on God’s Spirit.

A Call to Commission: Individual Roles in God’s Plan

God’s commission is diverse and individualized. It may involve being a missionary, a parent, a professional, or someone with a unique skill set. Whether it’s engaging in conversations to plant seeds of faith or fulfilling a role within a family, each person is commissioned by God to play a part in His grand narrative.

Embracing God’s Spirit and Commission

Closing with a prayer, we find solace in Jesus’s promise to send another Helper, the Spirit of truth, who will abide with us. As we love and obey, may we embrace the commissions God has laid upon us, recognizing the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Numbers 30-31
Vows, Warfare, and Spiritual Vigilance

Numbers 30 delineates guidelines for vows, emphasizing the accountability and respect attributed to them within the family structure. Male guardians or husbands held the authority to confirm or nullify vows made by women under their care, reflecting the reverence for spiritual commitments within households.

Warfare and Spiritual Vigilance

Moses’s final task involves waging war against the Midianites, revealing the enemy’s cunning tactics to entice and lead astray. Balaam’s role in enticing Israelites to rebellion unveils the ongoing battle against spiritual deception. Let’s heed the warning to remain vigilant against the enemy’s schemes!

Word of the Day: Enticed

Today’s word, “enticed,” reminds us of the enemy’s tactics to lure and tempt us away from God’s path. Just as Balaam’s advice led to Israelite rebellion, we must recognize and resist the hiss of the adversary, who seeks to devour and lead astray.

Resisting Temptation

Reflect on the teachings of Balaam and the enemy’s schemes to entice us into rebellion. Let’s be vigilant and cautious, recognizing the “hiss” behind enticing desires and staying rooted in God’s truth.

Stay Focused on God’s Path

In a world filled with enticing distractions, let’s keep our eyes fixed on the straight and narrow. Social media, among other things, can lead us astray if we’re not careful. Let’s use discernment and accountability to stay aligned with God’s will.

Christy-Award winner Angela Hunt writes for readers who expect the unexpected in novels. With over five million copies of her books sold worldwide, she is the best-selling author of more than 150 works ranging from picture books (The Tale of Three Trees) to non-fiction books, to novels.

Now that her two children are grown, Angie and her husband live in Florida with Very Big Dogs (a direct result of watching Turner and Hooch and Sandlot too many times). This affinity for mastiffs has not been without its rewards–one of their dogs was featured on Live with Regis and Kelly as the second-largest canine in America. Their dog received this dubious honor after an all-expenses-paid trip to Manhattan for the dog and the Hunts, complete with VIP air travel and a stretch limo in which they toured New York City.

Afterward, the dog gave out pawtographs at the airport.

Angela admits to being fascinated by animals, medicine, psychology, unexplained phenomena, chickens, and “just about everything” except sports. Books, she says, have always shaped her life— in the fifth grade she learned how to flirt from reading Gone with the Wind.

More about The Daughter of Rome

In Nero’s Rome, Calandra helps her father, a renowned sculptor, complete the most significant commission of his illustrious career. But then a catastrophic fire nearly destroys the imperial city, leaving Calandra reliant on a group of Christians–unusual individuals unlike any she has encountered before. Intrigued by their worship of the Son of an invisible God, Calandra grapples with her mistrust, only to find herself indebted to these believers as they help her rebuild her shattered world.

When Emperor Nero begins constructing his opulent Golden House, the people of Rome grow resentful, suspecting him of starting the fire in order to clear the land for his immense palace. Needing a scapegoat, Nero points at those who follow the Jewish Messiah, forcing Calandra to make an impossible choice between right and wrong, friends and family, love and death.

Q&A with Angela Hunt

ARCF: If you could time-travel back to ancient Rome with just one modern convenience, what would you bring?

AH: Toilet paper. The Romans had public toilets—a long row of seats over a trough—but they had a stick on a sponge used for, um, cleaning. No thanks.

ARCF: If you could cast actors for a movie adaptation of this book, who would play Calandra and the key historical figures?

AH: I’m not terribly “up” on the latest stars, but I kept visualizing the leads from Gladiator as I wrote.

ARCF: If your books had theme songs, what would Daughter of Rome’s be?

AH: Anything from the soundtrack of Gladiator.

ARCF: What’s a word or phrase you tend to overuse in your drafts and always have to cut back?

AH: That.

ARCF: Do you have any writing tricks or quirky habits that help get the words flowing?

AH: Bubble gum balls help keep the words flowing! All that sugar . . .

ARCF: Roman feast or medieval banquet—what’s your dinner of choice?

AH: That’s a tough one! But the Romans tended to add spices to meat that had gone bad, so maybe I’d go with the medieval banquet . . .

ARCF: If you could visit any fictional world (not your own!), where would you go?

AH: Any place in Ireland . . . those green fields call to me . . .

ARCF: If you had a pet in ancient Rome, what would it be? (Besides a mastiff or chicken!).

AH: A cat. With the preponderance of mice/rats, I think anyone would be wise to keep at least one cat.

ARCF: If someone made a scented candle inspired by Daughter of Rome, what would it smell like?

AH: Incense—they burned it everywhere, probably to cover up unappetizing odors.

ARCF: What is some of the unusual research you have found when researching your historical novels? What is the weirdest fact that came up?

AH: You could be a professional hair plucker in Ancient Rome. The “beauty salons” hired them.

Wendell the Humpback Whale: Discover the Songs & Secrets of Ocean Giants!

Hi friends! I’m Tricia Goyer, and I’m thrilled to welcome you back to Fun Fishy Friday! My co-author, Sherri Seligson, and I have had an amazing time writing Wonders of the Ocean Realm, and we love sharing these fascinating sea creatures with you.

This week, we’re diving deep into the world of Wendell the Humpback Whale—a magnificent ocean giant with a song all his own!

Wendell the Humpback Whale: Discover the Songs & Secrets of Ocean Giants!Humpback Whales: More Than Just Big Fish

Did you know that whales are mammals, just like dogs, bears, and even us? That means they:

Breathe air (no gills for these giants!)Nurse their babies with milkHave hair (yes, even whales have tiny tufts of hair!)

Humpback whales belong to a special group called baleen whales. Instead of teeth, they have comb-like structures called baleen that help them filter tiny shrimp-like krill and small fish from the water. They take giant gulps, push the water out, and keep the tasty food inside—kind of like an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet!

But what really makes humpback whales special? Their songs. Male humpback whales sing long, beautiful melodies that can travel for miles underwater. Scientists believe these songs help them communicate and even attract mates, but no one knows for sure. It’s a mystery of the deep!

God’s Incredible Design

Humpback whales might look fish-like, but they move very differently! While fish swim by swishing their tails side to side, whales move their tails up and down. This motion helps them dive deep, then rise up for a breath of fresh air.

God designed each sea creature with a unique way to move, breathe, and survive. Fish stay at certain depths, moving side to side. But whales travel up and down, adjusting to different water pressures as they come up for air. Isn’t that amazing?

Make Your Own Whale & Shark Tails!

Want a fun way to remember how whales and fish swim differently? Try this simple craft:

Print and cut out the whale tail and shark tail templates.Tape or glue them together.Hold them up and compare! The whale tail moves up and down, while the shark tail sways side to side.

It’s a great way to visualize how God designed these creatures for their unique ocean homes!

Shark Writing vs. Whale Writing

As Sherri and I worked on Wendell’s story, I realized something fun—writing has a rhythm, just like sea creatures move!

🐋 Whale Writing – Long, smooth sentences that flow gracefully, like a whale gliding through the ocean.

🦈 Shark Writing – Short, fast-paced sentences that mimic a shark’s quick, darting movements.

When writing action scenes, we use shark writing—short, breathy sentences to keep readers on the edge of their seats. But when describing the beauty of the ocean or a whale’s long journey, whale writing helps set a slower, more thoughtful pace.

Here’s an example from Wendell’s story:

Looming under the surface, a large shadow grows closer. Another humpback whale. She is smaller than Wendell’s mother but still an adult.

Wendell follows his mother toward the newcomer. She calls out, waving her long pectoral fin in greeting. The whales swim together, moving slowly. The trip will be a challenge.

Now, notice what happens when danger appears:

Orcas!

The little pod swims with purpose. Clicks and whistles fill the water. The sounds grow louder. Danger.

Wendell’s heart races. Black-and-white creatures circle. Teeth flash.

See the difference? Longer sentences for calm moments, short bursts for action-packed scenes!

Whale Songs and Our Prayers

One of the most beautiful things about whales is their ability to communicate. Their songs travel through the ocean, reaching others miles away. And that reminds me of something important:

God designed us with a special way to communicate too—through prayer.

Just like whales call out to one another, we can call out to God in every situation. Whether it’s a quick, breathless prayer in a moment of stress (like shark writing!) or a long, thoughtful conversation with God (like whale writing!), He is always listening.

Jeremiah 29:12 (NLT) says:

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”

Isn’t it amazing to think that the same God who hears the songs of the whales also hears your prayers?

What’s Next?

We’ve loved sharing Wendell’s story with you, but our ocean adventure isn’t over yet! Next week, we’ll introduce Luna the Deep-Sea Anglerfish, a mysterious creature from the darkest depths of the ocean. She may look a little scary, but trust me—her story is fascinating!

Until then, be sure to check out Wonders of the Ocean Realm to meet Wendell and his ocean friends. And don’t forget to get your Activity Book! Happy reading, and we’ll see you next week for another Fun Fishy Friday!

From Good to Great

We all know the difference between good and great. A good meal fills the belly, but a great one delights your senses and sticks in your memory. A good book entertains well enough, but a great one changes your perspective and engages you completely. A good life is comfortable, but a great life impacts others.

So what about our spiritual and physical well-being? Are we settling for good enough, or are we allowing Jesus to transform us into something great?

From Good to GreatHebrews 7:19 reminds us:
"For the Law never made anything perfect—but instead a better hope is introduced through which we [now] come close to God."

We can go beyond “good enough” faith and health into a life that glorifies God in every aspect—body, mind, and soul.

So how do we move from good to great in our faith and health? Here are five key ways to start today!

1. Go Beyond Knowledge—Live It Out

It’s easy to read Scripture, listen to sermons, and absorb spiritual wisdom. But are we applying what we learn? A great life is built on obedience, not just knowledge.

James 1:22"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."

✅ Action Step: Choose one Bible verse today and intentionally live it out. If it says to love your neighbor, do something kind for them. If it says to trust God, hand over your biggest worry in prayer.

2. Move from Physical Health to Whole Health

A good life means taking care of your body. A great life means taking care of your body, mind, and spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:19 reminds us:
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own."

Eating well, staying active, and resting are acts of worship when done with the right heart. It’s not about vanity; it’s about honoring the life God has given us.

✅ Action Step: Set a small, achievable health goal—drink more water, take a 10-minute walk, or add a vegetable to your plate.

3. Strengthen Your Faith Through Community

A good Christian life is personal. A great Christian life is rooted in community.

We weren’t meant to do this alone! Even in my writing, I don’t do it alone! There are always people behind me, encouraging me, supporting me, and helping me. In the same way, a community of believers strengthens and refines our faith, ensuring that what we produce is good and acceptable to God.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up."

✅ Action Step: Who do you know in your family, friends, or church that needs support or lifting up? Reach out to them today and give them some encouragement!

4. Replace Fear with Boldness

A good life is cautious, avoiding risk and staying comfortable. A great life follows God with courage.

Fear keeps us stuck in good. Faith pushes us into great. When we step out of our comfort zones, God meets us with His strength.

2 Timothy 1:7"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline."

✅ Action Step: What is one fear holding you back from stepping into something greater? Pray over it, then take a step of faith!

5. Move from Giving to Overflowing Generosity

It’s good to be kind and share with others. It’s great to live a life of overflowing generosity—to be selfless with our time, talents, and resources.

Ephesians 4:28 challenges us to go beyond basic goodness:
"Thieves must quit stealing and, instead, they must work hard. They should do something good with their hands so that they’ll have something to share with those in need."

✅ Action Step: Go beyond your normal routine of giving—donate to a ministry, volunteer, or simply bless someone unexpectedly today.

Stepping into Greatness with Jesus

We aren’t called to live a good life—we’re called to live a life of greatness in Jesus Christ!

Jesus doesn’t just want half of your heart, mind, or body. He wants all of you. And when you surrender fully, He transforms your ordinary into extraordinary.

As you move forward, remember:
➡ Faith isn’t just knowing—it’s living.
➡ Health isn’t just about weight—it’s about honoring God.
➡ Community isn’t optional—it’s necessary.
➡ Fear isn’t your identity—faith is.
➡ Giving isn’t an obligation—it’s an overflow of love.

What’s one area of your life where you’re ready to go from good to great? Let’s talk in the comments—I’d love to hear your journey! 💬👇

Letting Go and Letting God

Finding Strength in His Control

I still remember the moment I realized I couldn’t do it all.

It was late at night, and I was sitting at my kitchen table, overwhelmed by the sheer number of responsibilities weighing on my shoulders—homeschooling, writing deadlines, ministry commitments, and caring for my family. I had been running on empty for weeks, trying to hold everything together, convinced that if I didn’t, everything would fall apart.

Finally, exhausted, I whispered a prayer: Lord, I can’t do this anymore. I need You to take over.

Letting Go and Letting God: Finding Strength in His Control

That night, something changed. Not in my circumstances—they were just as busy the next morning—but in my heart. I realized that I had been clinging to control, afraid that letting go would mean failure. But in truth, letting go was the only way to truly succeed.

Maybe you’ve felt the same way—like everything depends on you, like you can’t stop because if you do, everything will unravel. If so, you’re not alone.

In my novella, Seeds of Love, Sadie Chupp faces this very struggle. After losing her parents, she pours herself into her greenhouses and heirloom seeds—the last tangible connection to her family’s legacy. When a company offers to buy her seeds, she faces an impossible choice: hold tightly to the past or trust God with her future.

Then there’s Eli Plank, a traveling bachelor who genuinely wants to help her. But when a misunderstanding leaves her heartbroken, it only adds to the burdens she carries.

Sadie’s story reflects what so many of us experience. We want to protect what’s familiar, and we struggle to trust that God has something better ahead. We cling tightly to our fears, our worries, and our struggles, forgetting that the safest place for them is in God’s hands.

Psalm 73:26 reminds us:
"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

No matter how hard we try, our own strength will never be enough—but God’s strength is limitless. He calls us to let go and trust Him, just like He called Sadie to open her heart to new possibilities.

So how do we do this? How do we surrender control and rely on God’s strength instead of our own?

1. Surrender Your Worries to God in Prayer

Sadie carried the weight of her family’s legacy on her own shoulders, unsure if she could trust anyone else with what was most precious to her.

How often do we do the same? Instead of praying about our problems, we carry them like heavy weights, assuming no one else—including God—will take care of them.

But God never intended for us to bear these burdens alone.

📖 "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." —1 Peter 5:7

➡ Take Action: Each morning, write down your worries in a journal. Then, pray over them, surrendering each one to God.

2. Accept Help from Others

When Eli tried to help Sadie, she pushed him away. She believed she had to handle everything herself.

How often do we resist help because we think accepting it makes us weak? But God places people in our lives to support us, just as He placed Eli in Sadie’s life.

📖 "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up." —Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

➡ Take Action: This week, practice saying “yes” when someone offers help—whether it’s a friend, family member, or fellow church member.

3. Replace Fear with Faith

Fear held Sadie back—fear of letting go, fear of trusting others, and fear of change. She wanted to control everything, but true peace comes from surrendering to God.

Fear thrives in uncertainty, but faith reminds us that God is already in our tomorrows.

📖 "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you." —Deuteronomy 31:6

➡ Take Action: The next time fear creeps in, replace it with a declaration of faith. Instead of saying, “What if this goes wrong?”, say, “I trust that God is in control.”

4. Prioritize Rest and Renewal

Sadie poured all her energy into preserving her family’s heirloom seeds, but she neglected to care for her own heart.

When we neglect rest, renewal, and time with God, we quickly become drained. But when we prioritize time in His presence, He renews our strength.

📖 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." —Matthew 11:28

➡ Take Action: Set aside time each day for prayer, reading Scripture, or simply resting in God’s presence.

5. Trust in God’s Timing

Just like Sadie had to learn to trust in God’s plan for her life, we must trust that His timing is perfect.

She thought holding onto her seeds would keep her parents’ memory alive, but God was preparing a future for her beyond what she imagined.

📖 "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." —Jeremiah 29:11

➡ Take Action: When you feel impatient or discouraged, remind yourself of a time when God came through for you in the past. If He was faithful then, He will be faithful now.

Letting Go, Just Like Sadie

At the beginning of Seeds of Love, Sadie was gripping onto her past so tightly that she almost missed the blessings God had for her future.

What are you holding onto that God is asking you to release?

Is it a fear?A worry?A burden you were never meant to carry?

When we let go, we make room for God to work in miraculous ways. We allow His strength to carry us instead of relying on our own.

Leviticus 23-24; Leviticus 25:1-23Unlocking God’s Mysteries

In the heart of the Old Testament, Leviticus 23 is a pivotal chapter that unveils the beauty and depth of God’s appointed festivals: the joyous celebrations of Passover, Unleavened Bread, the First Harvest, and the Festival of the Harvest.

The Sabbath and Festivals: A Time for Reflection and Rejoicing

The chapter opens with a reminder of the Sabbath—a day set apart each week for rest and worship, reinforcing the rhythm of work and rest essential for a balanced spiritual life. Following this, the narrative transitions into the details of the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread, commemorating Israel’s deliverance from Egypt with practices observed for millennia.

Leviticus 23:22 and the Echoes of Ruth

A particularly striking verse, Leviticus 23:22, encapsulates the spirit of generosity and community care by instructing landowners to leave the edges of their fields unharvested for the poor and the foreigners. This timeless principle of compassion finds a memorable application in the book of Ruth, where Boaz exemplifies this commandment, providing for Ruth and Naomi in their time of need.

The Shofar’s Call: A Symbol of Divine Presence

The Festival of Trumpets, marked by the blowing of the shofar, serves as a powerful symbol of God’s sovereignty and a prophetic reminder of the day when the trumpet will sound at Jesus’ return. Along with the Day of Atonement and the Festival of Shelters, this festival maps out a journey of repentance, atonement, and rejoicing in God’s provision and protection.

Leviticus 24: The Sanctity of Light and Life

Moving into Leviticus 24, the focus shifts to maintaining the pure oil for the lamps and the holy bread—symbols of God’s continual presence and provision. The chapter also addresses the weighty matters of justice and reverence for the divine name, emphasizing the sacredness of life and the importance of community integrity.

Jubilee: A Proclamation of Freedom

Leviticus 25 introduces the concept of the Jubilee year—a time of restoration and freedom. Every 50th year, lands were to be returned to their original families, and slaves were freed, illustrating God’s desire for equity, freedom, and the restoration of relationships.

Psalm 119: A Love Letter to God’s Law

Echoing the themes of Leviticus, Psalm 119 celebrates the joy and peace of adhering to God’s law. It’s a heartfelt declaration of love for God’s commandments and a testament to the transformative power of living according to divine statutes.

The Liberty Bell and the Message of Freedom

The inscription on the Liberty Bell, “Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants thereof,” draws directly from Leviticus 25:10, symbolizing the universal longing for freedom and justice. This connection between Scripture and American history highlights the enduring influence of biblical principles on the quest for liberty and equality.

The Relevance of God’s Appointed Times Today

God’s appointed festivals outlined in Leviticus 23 are not mere historical footnotes but vibrant celebrations of God’s ongoing work. They remind us of the Lord’s faithfulness, the importance of community, and the eternal principles of justice and mercy that guide us. As we reflect on these appointed times, we’re invited to see the story of God’s redemption unfolding in our lives, marking our moments of celebration, reflection, and commitment to the path He has set before us.

In every festival, every command, and every appointed time, we find a facet of God’s character and a call to walk more closely with Him. Whether looking back to the foundations laid in Leviticus or forward to the fulfillment of God’s promises, these appointed times offer us a chance to pause, remember, and rejoice in the story of divine love that encompasses all of history, including our own.

Leviticus 25:24-55, Leviticus 26
Redemption, Liberation, and Divine Justice

In the heart of Leviticus 25, we read about land redemption and the sanctity of human freedom, as seen through God’s compassion. The Israelites were just recently slaves, and we see here that the land and its inhabitants are not mere assets but precious charges entrusted to us. These chapters have a deeper significance, especially concerning redemption and liberation.

The Jubilee: A Celebration of Freedom and Restoration

The promise of the Jubilee year stands out as a testament to God’s mercy and justice. It’s a divine provision that ensures no individual or family remains perpetually dispossessed or enslaved, highlighting the view that land and people are not mere commodities but precious entities entrusted to humanity by God.

Divine Ownership and the Dignity of Individuals

Leviticus 25:55 says “For the people of Israel belong to me. They are my servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.” This declaration emphasizes that the Israelites, recently liberated from slavery, are under divine protection, highlighting the intrinsic value of each individual in the eyes of their Creator.

Blessings for Obedience and the Reality of Divine Justice

In Chapter 26, we find a shift from regulations to the consequences of obedience versus disobedience. The blessings promised to Israel if they adhere to their covenant with God cover aspects like seasonal rains, abundant harvests, peace, security, and the divine promise of God’s presence among His people. These blessings are not mere rewards but the natural outcomes of living in close relationship with God.

However, the passage also starkly outlines the severe consequences of disobedience: fear, desolation, and divine wrath. Yet, even in this, there’s a message of hope: the possibility of repentance and restoration if the people confess their sins, showcasing God’s enduring commitment to His covenant and His people.

The Babylonian Exile: A Historical Fulfillment of Prophecy

The mention of the Babylonian exile serves as a historical anchor, demonstrating the real-world implications of Israel’s disobedience and God’s sovereignty in using nations like Babylon as instruments of judgment. Yet, the eventual return of the Jews to Jerusalem after 70 years of exile underlines the faithfulness of God to His promises and the importance of repentance and restoration.

The Dual Nature of God’s Covenant: Promise and Warning

God’s covenant with Israel is both a promise of blessing and a caution against the curse of disobedience. This shows God’s desire for a holy, set-apart people and His patience and willingness to forgive. Through the lens of the New Testament, we see the ultimate act of redemption as Christ takes upon Himself the curse of the law, offering salvation and freeing humanity from the bondage of sin.

The Enduring Relevance of Leviticus

In every aspect, from the jubilant celebration of the Jubilee to the solemn warnings of divine justice, Leviticus calls us to a deeper understanding of our relationship with God and one another. It’s a call to live according with God’s laws, to cherish the gift of freedom, and to embrace the promise of redemption that lies at the heart of the Christian faith.

Leviticus 27; Numbers 1Purify Your Life

Leviticus is God’s call for His people to be holy: “You are to be holy to me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.” This call to holiness is intricately tied to the acts of purification and the clear division between what is considered holy and unholy.

The final chapter, Leviticus 27, has detailed regulations on voluntary offerings, sanctuary taxes, vows, and dedications to God. It outlines the valuation and redemption of persons, animals, or property vowed to the Lord. The chapter revisits the principle of tithing, a practice of setting apart a tenth of one’s produce as holy unto the Lord, which began with Abram’s offering in Genesis 14:20.

Organization and Sacred Duties

While Leviticus focuses on internal purity and consecration, Numbers 1 shifts the organization of the Israelite community through a census ordered by God. This military census does not include The Levites and priests, showing their unique role within the community. Instead, they safeguard the Tabernacle and facilitate God’s worship. Their role around the Tabernacle not only signifies their separation for God’s service but also serves as a protective barrier, guarding the sanctity of the worship space and the community’s well-being.

The Power of Division in Our Lives

The concept of division extends to our daily lives. It’s important to set aside time for God to prioritize spiritual nourishment. My journey of allocating more time to God’s Word has opened unexpected doors and brought unforeseen blessings.

As we read in Matthew 6:33, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

Overall, Leviticus and Numbers offer timeless lessons on purification, sacred division, and the dedication of certain aspects of our lives to God. For us, this can mean setting apart time and resources for God. As we read God’s Word, we find relevance and guidance for our modern lives. Time dedicated to understanding God’s Word is never in vain.

Numbers 2-3
Worry Less, Trust More

In God’s Word, some moments captivate us with their profound organization and the meticulous care that God takes in orchestrating every detail of existence. One such moment unfolds in the Book of Numbers, a name that at first glance might suggest a dry account of census data. However, as we delve deeper, we uncover a narrative brimming with divine intentionality and a personal message that resonates deeply with our modern lives.

Imagine the scene: a vast multitude of freed slaves recently escaped from the clutches of Egyptian tyranny. They find themselves at the foot of Mount Sinai. They are not merely a disorganized assembly of individuals but are meticulously organized into camps, each under the banner of their respective families. This is no random arrangement. Instead, it reflects a divine order that places each tribe precisely where it should be in relation to the Tabernacle, the dwelling place of God’s presence among His people.

The tribes of Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun camped to the east of the Tabernacle, numbering 186,400. To the south lay the tribes of Reuben, Simeon, and Gad, with 151,450. Ephraim, Manasseh, and Benjamin gathered on the west side, numbering 108,100, while Dan, Asher, and Naphtali settled to the north, reaching 157,600. This arrangement was not merely logistical. The people understood the symbolic significance, with the most honored positions given to the descendants of Jacob’s wives and lesser positions to the descendants of his concubines.

As we reflect on this divine orchestration, we are reminded of the importance of organization in our lives. Our precise God orders our steps and the details of our lives with meticulous care. The eastward positioning of Leah’s sons were towards the sunrise, the westward placement of Rachel’s sons towards the sunset, and the distribution of Bilhah’s and Zilpah’s sons across the north and south. Each detail reveals a God who is intimately involved in the arrangement of our lives.

Turning our attention to the Levites, we find another layer of divine order. The Levites were divided into four divisions, each with a specific role in serving at the Tabernacle, further underscoring the theme of organized service to God. This reminder that the Levites were substitutes for the firstborn livestock of Israel ties into a broader biblical theme: God’s provision and care for His people, down to the very last detail.

The word “Numbers” reflects the countless ways God orders our lives. From the numbering of the tribes to the counting of our sorrows and the naming of the stars, we see a God who is deeply invested in the details of our existence. The psalmists echo this sentiment, reminding us that our days are recorded in God’s book before we are even born, and that He is intimately aware of all our ways.

In a world where worry often threatens to overwhelm us, the message of Numbers serves as a powerful antidote. It reminds us that our lives are not left to chance or chaos. Instead, we are held in the hands of a God who numbers the hairs on our heads and orchestrates the events of our lives with precision and care. This realization has transformed my understanding of Numbers from a book of census data to a testament of God’s great numbering—a divine assurance that He has everything under control.

As we navigate the complexities of our lives, let us take comfort in the divine order that underpins our existence. May the organized camps of Israel inspire us to trust in the God who orders our days and our steps, reminding us that in every detail, we are profoundly known and deeply loved by the Creator of the universe. What a faith builder, indeed!

Numbers 4-5
The Quest for Purity

As we journey through the Bible with our Daily Bible Podcast, we often encounter passages that challenge our understanding and deepen our faith. The Book of Numbers, with its intricate details about the Tabernacle and the duties of the Levites, is no exception. Yesterday, we discussed the importance of organization, a theme that continues to resonate as we delve into today’s focus on the Levites’ responsibilities and the purity required in the camp of Israel.

Moving with Purpose and Precision

Moving can be a chaotic experience, but it also teaches us the value of organization and preparation—lessons echoed in how the Levites were instructed to transport the Tabernacle. The Kohathites, Gershonites, and Merarites each had specific roles, emphasizing that every task, no matter how small, contributes to the greater purpose of serving God and maintaining the sanctity of His dwelling place.

 Spiritual Maturity and Sacred Responsibilities

The Kohathites, tasked with carrying the most sacred objects, were not listed for service until age thirty, suggesting that spiritual maturity was crucial for their sacred duties. This detail reminds us of the importance of growth and preparation in our spiritual lives before undertaking the responsibilities God assigns to us.

 The Seriousness of Purity

Numbers 5 shifts our attention to the purity within Israel’s camp, covering various laws meant to protect the community’s holiness. The ritual for determining a wife’s faithfulness might seem peculiar to us, but it underscores the seriousness with which God views purity and faithfulness—not just in marriage but in our relationship with Him. It’s a stark reminder that our actions, seen and unseen, have consequences and that God’s desire for purity among His people is as relevant today as it was then.

The Duty of Faithfulness

The concept of duty runs throughout these passages, whether it’s the Levites’ service or the call to purity and faithfulness in the camp. It reminds us that we all have roles to fulfill—duties not just to our families and communities but to God Himself. The intertwining of duties in Numbers 5, from the Levites’ sacred responsibilities to the intimate matters of marital faithfulness, is a powerful reminder of our covenant relationship with God, mirroring the commitments and faithfulness expected in marriage.

Today’s exploration of the Levites’ duties and the laws of purity in Numbers 5 enriches our understanding of God’s meticulous care for His people and the profound significance of our duties to Him and to each other. As we continue our journey through the Bible, let these lessons remind us of the depth of God’s love, the seriousness with which He regards purity and faithfulness, and the divine compassion that invites us into a closer relationship with Him.

God Wants Us to Pay Attention

In our latest journey through the Bible with the Daily Bible Podcast, we’ve ventured into the heart of the wilderness experience of the Israelites, discovering profound lessons in the rituals and organization God established for His people. As we read chronologically, the intricate details of their journey become even more meaningful, especially when we look at the significance of the Nazirite vow and the use of silver trumpets.

The Call to Attention with Silver Trumpets

The silver trumpets hold a special place in the orchestration of the Israelite community. Their sound was not just about gathering the people or signaling movement; it was about calling God’s people to attention, to concentration, to a state of readiness for what God was about to do among them. This multifaceted use of trumpets—from gathering to celebrating, from warning to worshipping—teaches us about the value of clear, distinct communication with God and with each other.

The crafting of these trumpets, made of hammered work, signifies the effort and precision that goes into creating tools for divine purposes. Just as the trumpets required a skilled craftsman to shape them, so too are we shaped by the impacts and influences in our lives, designed to serve a purpose in God’s grand design.

The Discipline of the Nazirite Vow

Moving to the Nazirite vow, we see a profound commitment to consecration. The Hebrew root “nazar” speaks to abstaining from and consecrating oneself to God—a principle that resonates deeply with the Christian calling to live a life set apart. This vow, with its strict stipulations, required careful attention to detail and a deep dedication to maintaining purity for the sake of closeness to God.

Modern Parallels: Living Sacrifices

Drawing a parallel to our contemporary lives, particularly in the context of managing an audio production company, the necessity of attention—to detail, to timing, to the quality of work—echoes the biblical call to live attentively and conscientiously. Just as the ancient Israelites listened for the sound of the trumpets to know when to move, to gather, or to prepare for battle, so too must we listen carefully to God’s directions in our lives, paying attention to the roles He has assigned us and the paths He is leading us on.

In Romans 12:1-2, Paul echoes the essence of the Nazirite vow, urging believers to present their bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. This act of worship requires a transformation that comes from a renewed mind, attentive to discerning God’s will.

Applying the Lessons of Attention

As we navigate the complexities of our lives, the lessons from the Nazirite vow and the silver trumpets invite us to cultivate a practice of attention. Whether it’s managing different versions of a radio program or living out our daily callings, the need for precision, for clear communication, and for a consecrated life is ever-present.

The priestly blessing from Numbers 6:24-26 serves as a powerful prayer for our journey, reminding us of the peace and protection that comes from living in attentive obedience to God. May we strive to be people who listen for God’s direction, who pay attention to the details of His call on our lives, and who live as consecrated, holy people in every aspect of our existence.

Numbers 11-13
Overcoming Grumbling with Grace

In our journey through the Bible, we often encounter narratives that mirror our own life experiences, teaching us timeless lessons about human nature and divine grace. Our recent exploration in the Daily Bible Podcast has brought us to a poignant moment in the wilderness where the Israelites, despite witnessing miraculous provisions and deliverance, fall into a pattern of grumbling and complaining. This episode reflects their struggles and offers us a mirror to examine our responses to challenges and God’s provisions.

 The Echoes of Grumbling

The story begins with the Israelites’ dissatisfaction with manna, the very sustenance provided by God. Their longing for the “good things” of Egypt, despite its bondage, illustrates a common human tendency to romanticize the past when faced with present difficulties. The grumbling quickly spreads, highlighting how easily discontent can infect a community, leading even Moses to despair under the weight of his leadership.

 Divine Intervention and Human Response

In response to the grumbling, God provides quail, but not without a reminder of His power and a warning against doubting His provision. The appointment of 70 leaders to share Moses’ burden signifies God’s understanding of human limits and His provision for communal support and leadership.

Yet, the story of Caleb amidst the exploration of Canaan stands out. Faced with the same challenges and giants as the others, Caleb’s response is markedly different. His faith in God’s promise leads him to declare, “We can certainly conquer it!” This contrasts sharply with the fear and defeatism that paralyzes the others.

The Contagion of Grumbling and the Cure of Community

Grumbling, as seen in this narrative, is not just a vocal expression of dissatisfaction but a contagion that can demoralize and derail a community’s progress. It stems from unrealistic expectations and a forgetfulness of past victories and divine faithfulness. Our personal story of attempting to live a year without grumbling in a household of 11 mirrors this biblical truth. Like the Israelites, we learned that our grumbling often lies in our unrealistic expectations and a lack of trust in God’s provision.

The Role of the Holy Spirit

The turning point for us, as for Moses and the Israelites, came with the recognition that overcoming grumbling and living in gratitude is impossible through sheer willpower or human effort. It requires a dependence on the Holy Spirit. The fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—are the antithesis of a grumbling spirit. These qualities are not self-generated but are the outpouring of God’s Spirit working within us.

 Applying the Wilderness Lessons

This narrative invites us to reflect on our responses to God’s provisions and our challenges. Do we grumble, looking back to Egypt, or do we, like Caleb, move forward in faith, confident in God’s promises? The journey through the wilderness teaches us that overcoming grumbling is not about ignoring difficulties but about trusting in God’s provision and focusing on His faithfulness.

Grumbling may be a natural human reaction to uncertainty and challenges, but with faith, community, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we can overcome this tendency and live a life marked by gratitude and trust in God’s promises.
