Homeschool Extras

Here’s a value-packed video that answers tons of questions and has loads of how-to’s. This comes from my personal experience homeschooling, working from home, and having a mega-sized family. I recorded this video during the COVID-19 quarantine, but the info is still relevant!

Ready for Anything

A few years ago on Walk it Out, I chatted with my friend Kathi Lipp about her book Ready for Anything. This book is about preparing your heart and home for any crisis big or small. Maybe you have prepared for a crisis; maybe you wish you had prepared better.

Walk It Out Episode #93 Ready for Anything with Kathi Lipp! How can you be prepared for anything? Kathi Lipp and I chat about it on this week's episode! You don't want to miss it! Enjoy!

Kathi and I talk about her wake-up call of NOT being prepared during their house fire. It was then that she realized how unprepared she’d been for crisis. And now it’s Kathi’s goal to help you deal with whatever crisis might come up in your life with confidence. I loved this chat because it helped me to see how unprepared I was for the crisis that was occurring in my own life.

You can listen on iTunes, your favorite podcast app, or HERE.

Focus on the Family

I was also interviewed a few years ago on Focus on the Family about homeschooling. They got so many questions that they put the episode up in two days!

I know so many homeschool families need encouragement right now. I pray that the words that I spoke will be a breath-of-hope and a shot-in-the-arm of inspiration.

Rebel Parenting

It’s a throwback for sure, but this interview about how to help angry kids might be just what you need right now.

Homeschooling with Faith & Purpose

Whether you’re homeschooling temporarily or in it for the long haul, remember: education isn’t just about academics—it’s about discipleship. You have the incredible opportunity to shape your child’s heart and mind for Christ.

Take it one day at a time. Lean on God’s grace. And don’t forget—you are equipped for this calling!

Wondering About Your Life’s Purpose?

Wondering About Your Life’s Purpose? Tricia Goyer

Have you ever wondered about your life’s purpose? Wouldn’t it be amazing to know you’re exactly where God wants you to be? You’re not alone.

Wondering About Your Lifes Purpose 1

All over the world, people—young and old—are asking the same questions:

Why am I here? What difference can I make? How do I find God’s will for my life?

If you’ve ever wrestled with these thoughts, take heart—you’re in good company. Many of us want to make a difference in the lives of others, but we’re unsure how to start when we feel stuck ourselves. The good news? God doesn’t expect you to have it all figured out. He simply calls you to walk it out, one step of obedience at a time.

From Brokenness to Purpose: My Story

When I was 17, my life took a turn I never expected. I found myself pregnant and alone. The dreams I had for my future—college, career, and family—all felt shattered. I dropped out of school, and I spent most days sleeping and crying, convinced I had messed up my life for good.

But even in my darkest moments, I remembered something my Sunday School teacher once told me—that Jesus loves me. Desperate, I prayed a simple prayer:

“God, I’ve screwed up big time. If You can do anything with my life, please do.”

That small, imperfect prayer opened a door to hope. Change didn’t come overnight, but it came. It started when I opened my Bible and, little by little, started to believe that God’s promises applied to me.

I didn’t have a ten-year plan or a clear roadmap. What I did have was God’s Word and the invitation to take the next obedient step. First, I forgave myself. Then, God opened my eyes to the needs of others—teen moms like me who were struggling to find hope. Later, He called my husband and me to adopt. None of these were my plans, but every step of obedience led to a life I never dreamed possible.

What’s Your Story?

Maybe your story looks nothing like mine—or maybe it does. Either way, God’s purpose for your life is just as unique as you are. And the only way to discover it is by walking it out, one faithful step at a time.

As I share in my book Walk It Out: The Radical Results of Living God’s Word One Step at a Time, God rarely reveals the whole picture at once. Instead, He asks us to trust Him moment by moment. Each act of obedience opens the door to the next, and before you know it, you’re living the very story God wrote just for you.

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”
—Psalm 119:105
5 Ways to See God’s Purpose in Your Life

If you’re longing to discover God’s plan for your life, here are five ways to start seeing His purpose unfold:

1. Spend Time in God’s Word

God’s will is found in His Word. The Bible is more than just stories from the past; it’s God’s roadmap for how to live today. When you regularly read and study scripture, you’ll begin to recognize His voice and direction in your life.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” —Proverbs 3:5-6
2. Start Serving Where You Are

God’s purpose often reveals itself when we step outside ourselves and serve others. You don’t need a perfect plan—just a willing heart. Whether it’s volunteering at your church, reaching out to a struggling neighbor, or encouraging a friend, service has a way of uncovering God’s greater call.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” —1 Peter 4:10
3. Be Open to Divine Detours

Sometimes God’s purpose looks nothing like our plans. Be willing to follow God’s nudges, even when they lead you somewhere unexpected. The greatest adventures of faith often begin with small, uncomfortable steps.

“A person may plan his own journey, but the Lord directs his steps.” —Proverbs 16:9
4. Embrace the Waiting Seasons

Purpose isn’t always about activity. Sometimes God’s plan includes seasons of rest, healing, or preparation. Don’t mistake silence for absence—God is always at work.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” —Psalm 46:10
5. Trust God with the Outcome

You may not see the full picture, but God does. Release your fear, perfectionism, and the need to control. Trust that God is writing a beautiful story, even if you only see the next sentence.

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished.” —Philippians 1:6Discover More in Walk It Out

In Walk It Out, I share more of my story—including how God led me to start a crisis pregnancy center, adopt children, and write over 85 books. None of these things were on my original to-do list, but each act of obedience opened the door to the next.

If you’re ready to step into God’s purpose for your life, I encourage you to grab a copy of Walk It Out: The Radical Results of Living God’s Word One Step at a Time. Let’s discover together how God’s Word can transform ordinary days into extraordinary purpose.

Sex, Love, and Respect: Preparing for God’s Best

Sex, Love, and Respect: Preparing for God’s Best Tricia GoyerSex, Love, and Respect: Preparing for God’s BestPreparing for Important Conversations

Dear Parents,

As parents, we want the best for our children—spiritually, emotionally, and physically. We guide them in their education, their friendships, and their faith, but one of the most critical areas we must prepare them for is relationships and sexual health.

Our culture sends mixed messages about love, dating, and intimacy. The world normalizes casual relationships, but God calls us to something greater—intentional love, respect, and purity. Talking about these topics can feel overwhelming, but avoiding the conversation leaves our children to figure it out on their own—often influenced by media, peers, or misinformation.

This blog provides a biblical perspective on relationships and sexual integrity, helping young people make wise choices before they find themselves in high-pressure situations. You can share this information directly with your child or use it as a guide for meaningful conversations at home.

Here’s how to use this resource:
✔ Read it yourself and decide what key points you’d like to emphasize.
✔ Share the blog with your child and encourage them to reflect on the concepts.
✔ Use it as a starting point for open, judgment-free discussions about their thoughts, questions, and concerns.
✔ Emphasize that these discussions aren’t about shame or fear, but about God’s best plan for their future.

By being proactive, we can help our children navigate relationships with wisdom, confidence, and a deep understanding of their worth in Christ.

Praying for you as you walk this journey together!
💙 With grace, wisdom, and encouragement,
Tricia Goyer

Sex, Love, and Respect:
Preparing for God’s Best

“You are someone’s future spouse.”

That’s not something we often think about in the moment, right? But it’s true. You are someone’s future husband or wife. And guess what? That person you’re dating, flirting with, or considering a relationship with? They are someone’s future spouse too.

When we begin to see relationships through this lens, everything shifts. Love is no longer just about how we feel in the moment—it’s about honoring the person in front of us and protecting the future God has planned for us.

Respect: The Foundation of Love

Love without respect isn’t love at all.

Respect honors. It doesn’t pressure. It doesn’t manipulate. It doesn’t push boundaries just because “we feel like it.”Respect protects. It guards not only your purity but the heart of the person you care about.Respect understands. It recognizes that every choice we make now will impact our future.

The truth is, sexual purity isn’t just about avoiding physical sin—it’s about protecting your heart and someone else’s. If you wouldn’t want your future spouse being treated a certain way, then don’t treat someone else that way.

Ask yourself: Would I want my future husband or wife to be in the kind of relationship I’m in right now?

Emotional Bonding: The Ties That Linger

When we talk about purity, we often focus on physical boundaries. But emotional bonds can be just as powerful—sometimes even more so.

Sex isn’t the only thing that creates a deep connection between two people. Emotional intimacy—sharing our hearts, dreams, and deepest feelings—creates soul ties that don’t just go away when a relationship ends.

I know this personally.

Even after I was married, I still felt those emotional ties to past relationships. I thought I had moved on, but my heart had lingering attachments that made it hard to fully connect with my husband. It took intentional effort, prayer, and surrender to God to break free from those unhealthy ties.

If you’ve ever struggled with thoughts of an ex or emotional attachments that won’t let go, you’re not alone.

Here’s how I found healing:

Taking my thoughts captive. Every time my mind drifted back to past relationships, I had to redirect my focus to God’s truth (2 Corinthians 10:5).Praying for a renewed heart. I asked God to help me let go of those ties and fully embrace the marriage He gave me.Seeking forgiveness. Not just from God, but also from my husband. Even though those past relationships happened before we met, I wanted to ensure my heart was fully his.Cutting off all communication. This was one of the hardest but most important steps. Keeping even small connections open made it harder to move forward.Making a Relationship Plan

We make plans for everything—our education, our careers, our fitness. Why wouldn’t we plan for one of the most important parts of our lives—our relationships?

Waiting for God’s best doesn’t just happen by accident. It takes intentional choices and clear boundaries.

Here’s how to create a relationship plan:

Define your values. What do you believe about love, purity, and marriage?Set boundaries. Where do you draw the line? What will you say no to in order to protect yourself and your future spouse?Ask the hard questions. What do you need to know before committing to someone? Are you on the same page spiritually and emotionally?Pray for your future spouse. Even if you haven’t met them yet, ask God to prepare both of your hearts for the right time. The Freedom of Sexual Purity

Choosing purity isn’t about missing out. It’s about living with no regrets.

When we honor God’s plan for love, we experience freedom from:

Guilt and regretEmotional baggageComparison in marriageUnnecessary heartbreak

Waiting for marriage to experience intimacy means stepping into that relationship without the weight of past mistakes. It means starting fresh, fully present, and completely free.

What If I’ve Already Made Mistakes?

Maybe you’re reading this, and you feel like it’s too late for you.

It’s not.

God is a God of second chances. He doesn’t define you by your past mistakes—He defines you by His grace.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9

If you’ve crossed lines you regret, you can start fresh today. Here’s how:

Confess it to God. His forgiveness is immediate.Renew your mind. Replace shame with truth—God’s love is bigger than your past.Walk in purity from now on. Your past doesn’t have to dictate your future.Committing to God’s Best

At the end of the day, this isn’t just about saying no—it’s about saying yes to something better.

God’s plan for purity isn’t about restriction. It’s about protection.

Wait because you are worth it.Wait because love isn’t meant to be rushed.Wait because God’s best is always worth the wait.

And if you didn’t wait? Start fresh today.

God’s grace is bigger than your past. His love is deeper than your mistakes. And the future He has for you? It’s better than anything you could imagine.

Choose respect. Choose purity. Choose God’s best.

How to Make Faith & Family Your Greatest Legacy

How to Make Faith & Family Your Greatest Legacy Tricia Goyer Plus Retreat Giveaway!

Some gifts don’t fit under the tree. They don’t come wrapped in bows or tucked inside a box. Some gifts—the best ones—are found in moments.

This year, our family decided to give ourselves a gift that wouldn’t collect dust or end up forgotten in a closet. We gifted ourselves time together.

How to Make Faith & Family Your Greatest Legacy

Over New Year’s, four generations of our family (from 4 months old to 80 years young!) packed up and headed to Branson Family Retreats. We needed to slow down, reconnect, and spend quality time building the kind of memories that shape a legacy. Let me tell you: best decision ever.

One House, Four Generations, a Lifetime of Family Memories

We’ve done a lot of family trips over the years, but there was something different about this one. Maybe it was the peaceful setting. Maybe it was the way time seemed to slow down when we weren’t rushing from one event to the next. Maybe it was simply the reminder that these moments matter more than anything else.

Some of our favorite moments?

🔥 Early mornings with coffee and quiet conversations by the fire.
🍳 Big breakfasts where everyone fought over the last pancake.
🎲 Game nights where laughter and a little friendly competition brought us closer.
🌲 Outdoor adventures where we saw God’s handiwork in every sunrise.
🥂 A New Year’s toast—not just about resolutions, but about faith, family, and fresh beginnings.

At home, life can be a blur. Schedules take over, to-do lists grow, and it’s easy to let days slip by without truly connecting. But in Branson, we pressed pause. And in that stillness, we made some of the most treasured memories of our lives.

Plan the Trip. Protect the Time. Prioritize Family Moments.

Let’s be honest—life moves fast. If we don’t schedule time together, it won’t happen. Work, school, sports, and endless responsibilities will always fight for our attention.

“To be in your children’s memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today.”

Barbara Johnson

And here’s the truth:

🔥 Your family is worth more than a busy calendar.
🔥 Your memories are worth more than another weekend lost in routine.
🔥 Your faith journey is strengthened when you slow down together.

My co-author, Leslie, and I talk about this in our new book, Faith that Sticks. The best way to show your children that they matter is to give them your time. No amount of gifts can replace the moments spent together, building memories that last a lifetime.

Branson Family Retreats gave us a place to reconnect and refocus on what matters most—our faith and our family.

Deuteronomy 16:18-22, Deuteronomy 17-20, Deuteronomy 21:1-9Beyond Laws to Life’s Model

Moses, foreseeing the possibility of a king, instructs a unique directive—write a copy of the law, read it daily, and remain humble. A king in tune with God’s decrees would benefit the people, fostering a just and God-centered rule. The law wasn’t just about compliance; it was a model for righteous living.

Laws Revisited: A Reminder of God’s Standard

While many laws are revisited, we see a broader purpose beyond immediate compliance. The Torah becomes a preparatory phase, leading to the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah. Jesus brings a revolutionary shift—from external compliance to internal transformation, emphasizing faith and sacrificial love.

Word of the Day: Model

Definition: A standard or example for imitation or comparison.

The laws given to the Israelites were like a model, a representation of Jesus, who fulfilled every requirement. The law prepared us for understanding God’s standard, paving the way for Jesus’ fulfillment.

Modeling Jesus: A Call to Imitate Christ

As we grow to know Jesus, we are called to imitate Him, becoming models of His ways. Like a system set as an example, we are to imitate Christ and become the hands and feet of Jesus. Our love and actions become a model for a world in need, showcasing God’s love.

Being the Model: The Hands and Feet of Jesus

Paul urges us in 1 Corinthians 11:1 to imitate Christ, and at the end of every podcast, we echo the call to become “the hands and feet of Jesus.” Why? We are a model for God. People watch us, and through our love, they open their hearts to the good news of Jesus.

Let’s not merely follow laws but embrace the model of Jesus. May our lives reflect the transformative power of faith, love, and imitating Christ.

Deuteronomy 21-25
Treasures of Justice

As we navigated through the verses, our hearts couldn’t help but ache for those caught in less-than-ideal circumstances—the captured woman in war, the unloved wife in a polygamous marriage, and the woman left without children. These seemingly harsh laws uncover God’s compassionate teaching, guiding humanity to care for those in difficult situations. It’s a reminder that compassion must be taught, just as with any life lesson—a truth that resonates even in my household with 10 kids.

Legacy, Names, and Unforeseen Symbolism

The poignant law in Deuteronomy 21:22-23 caught our attention, foreseeing the Savior’s sacrifice centuries later. Little did Moses and the people know that this law, addressing the swift burial of a criminal hung on a tree, would echo through time, mirroring the crucifixion of Jesus for the sins of the world.

Laws, Laws, and More Laws

Moving on, we encountered a plethora of laws spanning Deuteronomy 22-25, addressing various aspects of life—from sexual conduct and property rights to marriage and fair treatment of workers. While the sheer volume may feel overwhelming, the essence lies in the Israelites’ understanding that they are God’s possession. These laws are a blueprint for a just and prosperous society, ensuring the people’s distinctive nature as God’s chosen possession.

Word of the Day: Possession

Definition: An item of property; something belonging to one.

This word encapsulates the heart of these laws. The Israelites were God’s possession, so they were to treat their possessions differently. These chapters underscore the importance of justice and fairness, guiding the Israelites towards prosperity and success in the Promised Land.

A Glimpse into Jesus’ Time

A fascinating revelation from Deuteronomy 23:24-25 mirrors an incident in Jesus’ time. The law allowing gleaners to eat from a neighbor’s field while traveling (Matt. 12:1) showcases the balance between personal responsibility and landowners’ provision—a timeless principle of reciprocity.

Looking Ahead

With the Promised Land on the horizon, God desires His people to stand out as His special possession. As we ponder on the laws, we’re reminded of 1 Peter 2:9-10: a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s possession. How we treat a special possession reflects our understanding of its worth—a profound analogy for our relationship with God.

Deuteronomy 26-29:1Choices, Consequences, and the Fear of God

In today’s exploration of Deuteronomy 26-29:1 on the Daily Bible Podcast, we begin with harvest offerings and tithes. As the Israelites anticipate entering the Promised Land, God instructs them to remember their humble beginnings. From the wandering ancestor Jacob, they’ve evolved into a mighty nation by the power of God’s mighty arm. The call is to give the first portion of all they have back to the Lord, maintaining a heart of gratitude and acknowledgment of God’s providence. Every third year, a tithe is given to the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows, ensuring all have enough to eat.

A Vision for the Future

Moses instructed the people on their entry into the Promised Land. They were to erect stones on Mount Ebal, inscribed with the full body of the Lord’s instructions, creating a tangible representation of their covenant with God. A future altar of uncut stones would serve as a place for sacrifices. This forward-looking directive emphasizes the importance of remembrance and devotion.

Upon arrival, a significant ceremony unfolds. Half of the tribes, representing the sons of Leah and Rachel, pronounce blessings on the people, while the other tribes, the sons of the concubines, proclaim curses. This serves as a poignant reminder of the consequences of both obedience and rebellion. The curses highlight the importance of moral integrity, illustrating God’s desire for His people to stand apart from other nations.

God’s Rescue Plan Unveiled

Stepping back, we recognize that the story of the Israelites is an integral part of God’s ultimate rescue plan for all people. From Genesis to Revelation, God intricately weaves a beautiful narrative of salvation. The retelling of the law in Deuteronomy reminds them that God is on their side, desiring their success and prosperity. Even in their stiff-necked tendencies, Moses outlines the consequences of straying from God and the abundant blessings that await those who listen.

Word of the Day: Fear

Definition: Reverential awe, especially toward God.

These readings introduce the concept of “fear,” not as mere tactics but as a profound reality. The Hebrew word “yirah” denotes a holy reverence, respect, and worship for God, connected to a deep awareness and trembling. True fear is a deeper understanding of God’s nature, capabilities, and consequences—both blessings and cursing—that accompany our choices.

Choices, Consequences, and Doors

In today’s reading, we confront the intense words of God, laying before us the choices of blessing or cursing, life or death. The gravity of these choices is emphasized because it’s serious business. God desires a set-apart people devoted to love, justice, and an unwavering commitment to Him. Fear of God isn’t just about awe; it’s a choice between positive fear – reverencing the glorious name of the Lord – and negative fear – fearing the consequences. Door #1 leads to blessings, abundance, and eternal life. Door #2 opens to painful consequences and spiritual destruction.

Choosing Paths, Embracing Fear, and Unveiling Blessings

As we reflect on Deuteronomy 26-29:1, let’s consider our choices. Each action sends ripples into our lives, and the doors stand open before us. The call is clear. Choose the path of obedience, embrace the fear of God in reverence, and walk into a realm of blessings, abundance, and eternal life.

Choosing Life

Moses emphasizes the importance of being aware and watchful, drawing parallels to 1 Peter 5:8, where believers are urged to be vigilant against the adversary. The central message is clear: choosing God means choosing life, while turning away leads to death (Deut 30:20). The responsibility lies in loving, obeying, and committing to God—being watchful and sober-minded in our faith journey.

Passing the Torch

At the threshold of his leadership transition to Joshua, Moses imparts a profound lesson: trust in God, and He will not fail you. This moment is akin to a coronation, a pivotal time for the Israelites. As we reflect on our own transitions and challenges, the assurance of God’s unwavering presence remains a beacon of hope.

The Danger of Complacency

Moses forewarns the Israelites about the perils of complacency, a human tendency to forget God’s faithfulness. In our fast-paced lives, it’s easy to lose sight of the miracles God has done. Yet, Moses reassures us that God’s Word is not a mysterious code but a guide to aligning our lives with His commands.

Secrets Known to God

Acknowledging that God has secrets beyond our understanding, Moses emphasizes our accountability for what He has revealed. The Bible is not an enigma but a clear communication of God’s will. It’s a reminder that our focus should be on living by His commands rather than unraveling cosmic mysteries.

The Power of Choice

Deuteronomy 30:19 presents a powerful choice—life or death, blessings or curses. Moses calls on heaven and earth to witness this decision. This choice isn’t a one-time event but a continuous commitment to live in alignment with God’s will.

Word of the Day: Watchful

Definition: Vigilant or alert; closely observant

Being watchful, as highlighted in Deuteronomy 29-31, is more than vigilance; it’s a call to be spiritually prepared. Like soldiers in a military lineup, we are trained through the Bible to recognize threats, fortify our hearts, and discern what is truly important. Reading the Bible is a training ground for our spiritual alertness.

Living with Integrity

Though spoken to the Israelites, Moses’ words resonate with us today. Living with integrity means choosing actions that reflect our desire for righteousness. It’s about setting an example for those around us, especially the watchful eyes of our children, who keenly observe and learn from our behaviors.

Deuteronomy 31:30, Deuteronomy 32, Psalm 90
Exploring Boundaries

Moses, in his song, unveils a profound lesson on satisfaction and vigilance. It’s easy to question the Israelites and then turn inward. As we read, we find parallels in our lives, recognizing cracks and areas where vigilance wanes. Psalm 16:5-6 echoes, reminding us that God alone is our portion and security. Moses emphasizes that these instructions are not empty words but the essence of life.

The Theme of Boundaries: God’s Intentional Design

A captivating theme surfaces in Deuteronomy 32:8—boundaries. Beyond geographical lines, Moses reveals God’s intentional design, setting up boundaries for each nation according to the number of the sons of Israel. The mention of “sons of God” or “heavenly court” in different translations expands our understanding. It’s a divine author sketching characters, designating purpose and space within His grand narrative.

The Pivotal Concept of Inheritance

The concept of boundaries extends to inheritance in Deuteronomy 32:9, as Moses declares, “For the Lord’s portion is his people, Jacob his allotted inheritance.” We witness God’s hand sketching outlines, inviting Israel into a distinct, protective love. This heavenly division, as described by Moses, happens before it unfolds on earth, showcasing God’s deliberate actions shaping human events.

God’s Protective Presence: An Eagle’s Wings

Deuteronomy 32:11 tenderly depicts God’s guiding presence as an eagle, spreading wings over His people. The imagery portrays strength, watchfulness, and unfailing protection. This metaphor reappears in Psalm 91:4, assuring us of God’s encompassing refuge under His wings.

Word of the Day: Boundaries

Definition: A line or limit where one thing ends and another begins, or something that indicates such a line or limit; a limit that separates acceptable behavior from unacceptable behavior.

Beyond mere lines on a map, boundaries become a profound concept. It’s not just a physical act but a spiritual one, showcasing God’s deliberate design in our lives. These stories come alive as we read, inviting us into a deeper relationship with our Creator. It’s a reminder that God has a unique place and purpose for each of us.

Connection Between Old and New Testament

The connection between Old and New Testament resounds in Acts 17:26-27, emphasizing God’s purpose for nations to seek Him. The repeated message is clear: “I have a place for you.” In heaven, boundaries were set for the children of Israel, and for us—His offspring. Acts reaffirms that in Him, we live, move, and have our being.

Psalm 90: Moses’ Last Message

Moses, in Psalm 90, leaves a powerful message with his last breaths. “Lord, through all the generations, you have been our home.” This prayer echoes the enduring theme of seeking God’s presence and finding joy in His love each morning.

Setting Personal Boundaries: A Vital Reminder

As we absorb these teachings, let’s remember the importance of personal boundaries. Moses, at the end of his life, teaches a song of praise, urging us to seek God daily. In Psalm 90:14, he prays for God’s unfailing love to satisfy us so that we may sing for joy throughout our lives.

Dear readers, take a moment to reflect on the boundaries in your life, especially with time. Just as God set boundaries of blessings for nations, consider the divine design for your existence. Seek God’s presence in your favorite place, and, like Moses, sing for joy. Boundaries are not restrictions but God’s way of guiding us to a life of purpose and fulfillment.

Deuteronomy 33-34

Joshua 1-2 Courage in Unexpected Places

In the final chapters, Moses bestows unique blessings upon each tribe of Israel. A departure from Jacob’s mixed blessings, Moses’ words are positive and tailored to each tribe’s character and future. From life and strength to ministry and safety, each blessing speaks to the richness of God’s promises.

Transition to Joshua: A Continuation of God’s Promise

As Moses’ earthly journey concludes, leadership transitions to Joshua. At 120, Moses’ strength and vision remain unimpaired. The baton passes seamlessly to Joshua, who receives the Spirit and the monumental task of guiding Israel into the Promised Land.

Rahab’s Courage: An Outsider in God’s Grand Design

Amidst this transition, we encounter Rahab, a resident of Jericho. Despite being an outsider, her courage shines as she protects Israelite spies. Her plea for kindness and protection in return showcases faith and allegiance to God’s people.

Word of the Day: Courageous

Definition: Possessing the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., despite fear; bravery.

Moses’ unique relationship with God, Joshua’s charge to be strong, Rahab’s courageous actions—courage takes center stage. Courage is not the absence of fear but the strength to face and overcome it.

Rahab’s Faith: A Living Example!

Rahab’s faith wasn’t passive; it was active trust. Mentioned in Matthew’s Gospel, she becomes an ancestor of Jesus, illustrating that faith without works is dead. Rahab’s courage challenges us: When were you last courageous?

Embracing New Seasons: Courage for Today!

Courage has diverse faces—rising in the morning, going to work, caring tirelessly for loved ones. Like Rahab, who faced a new season with faith, courage propels us through new phases. What new season are you in?

Courage Takes Many Faces: Proverbs 31 in Action!

Courage can be as simple as facing daily challenges or as profound as selfless love. A Proverbs 31 wife cared for her ailing spouse tirelessly, grieving with joy and serving others even after his passing.

Courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s facing and pushing past it. What courageous step will you take today?

Joshua 3-6
Conquering Jericho

Picture this: Hundreds of thousands of Israelites, camped after years of wandering, facing the formidable Jordan River at flood stage. In this daring feat, God orchestrates a miraculous dry path, reminiscent of the Red Sea crossing. The Ark leads, priests follow, and as they step in, the river stands still, paving the way for a triumphant passage.

Joshua’s Leadership Unveiled: A Continuation of Divine Promises

As Joshua takes the reins from Moses, God assures him of divine support. The awe-inspiring march through the Jordan solidifies Joshua’s leadership, setting the stage for the conquest of the Promised Land. The people’s purification and God’s promise unfold a new chapter.

Memorial Stones: A Testament to God’s Faithfulness

After the crossing, Joshua selects a representative from each tribe to collect stones from the Jordan, constructing a memorial on the bank and another in the middle of the river. These stones are tangible reminders of God’s faithfulness and the miraculous passage of His chosen people.

The Commander of the Lord’s Army: A Divine Encounter

In a poignant moment near Jericho, Joshua encounters the Commander of the Lord’s Army. Not taking sides but representing God’s authority, this figure instructs Joshua to treat the ground as holy, echoing Moses’ burning bush encounter. This mysterious encounter foreshadows divine intervention in the impending conquest.

Renewal of Covenant Ceremonies: A Spiritual Reset

Before the fall of Jericho, Israel engages in a series of covenant ceremonies—circumcision, Passover observance, and enjoying the produce of the land. These acts signify a reconnection with God, preparing their hearts for the battles ahead. Obedience, even in seemingly illogical requests, becomes the key.

The Fall of Jericho: A Story of Faith, Obedience, and Miracles

The climax of our journey: the renowned fall of Jericho. The Israelites march around the city walls for seven days to demonstrate unwavering faith and obedience. God’s miraculous intervention, reminiscent of Rahab’s faith, leads to the collapse of Jericho’s impenetrable walls.

Word of the Day: March

Definition: To walk with regular and measured tread, as soldiers on parade; advance in step in an organized body; to engage in a procession organized as a demonstration of protest or support.

In our lives, God often asks us to “march” even when the outcome is uncertain. Just like the Israelites, let’s march in faith:

Believe in God’s promises for victory.Obey His commands, even when they seem illogical.Observe and celebrate each new season.Accept the gifts He’s already bestowed upon us.God Goes Before Us

Reflecting on Rahab’s view from her home and her eventual freedom, we’re reminded that God goes before us when our hearts are prepared. In uncertainties, God’s Word and active seeking lead to His divine intervention.

March forth, dear seekers! Let your hearts be prepared, for God goes before you. Share in His goodness, and He will show up in new and miraculous ways!

Q&A with Bryan Timothy Mitchell

ARCF: Almost Paradise is packed with action, magic, and spiritual battles. What inspired this story?

BTM: After writing Infernal Fall, I felt that there was more to the story. What did these characters do after the journey through the Inferno? They each have interesting story arcs. I took a lot of inspiration from The Great Divorce by CS Lewis for Beau’s journey. I also considered the Screwtape Letters as a way of considering how spirits may interact with us. Another consideration was PTSD. While it isn’t totally in the forefront of the story, it was a lingering question. How are these characters moving on from being in a dark place, and how does their new life conflict with their past?

ARCF: Daniel has a magical stone, but it’s not as powerful as he’d hoped. What makes him a hero despite his limits?

BTM: I think Daniel tries to do the right thing now. He’s not as quick to anger, and though he can be afraid, he wants to stay true to his word. Despite not having as much power as he’d hope with the stone, and still having more confidence with that stone than he should, he will still put himself in danger to protect others.

ARCF: Heartless Charles has some big choices to make. What makes his journey so compelling?

BTM: Heartless Charles was not worthy of anyone’s trust in Infernal Fall. He was deceptive and selfish while also feeling the influence of Daniel’s humanity and the Holy Spirit that was still alive in him. I believe readers of Infernal Fall learn to like Charles along the way, and when he steps out of Hell and into the spirit world, he has amusing takes on what he experiences. I believe the reader knows where his loyalties lie, but how can he be cunning enough to navigate the pressure that powerful demons place on him. What would be the consequences for doing the right thing considering he is a pawn in Satan’s Army now?

ARCF: The book mixes supernatural elements with real struggles. How do you balance the fantasy with deep themes?

BTM: Deep themes make the story real to me. These are things I think about through the whole production of the book. I don’t try to point the characters to certain ways of thinking or direct them to a particular subject that’s on my mind. The characters are on a journey just as we are and the themes we face are oftentimes the same themes we face ourselves.

ARCF: What can readers expect from the demons and angels in this book?

BTM: It’s hard to say to expect the unexpected. We meet these spirits along the way, and it’s very apparent who is evil at times and not always the case when they’re good. It seems to take some time for us to know for sure through the story. I do think there are surprises along the way as to when they show up and what they do and how the world and others react to them. I did try to write them as I believe they would be.

ARCF: Did any part of this story surprise you while writing it?

BTM: Yes and if I say much about it, it will take away a little of the surprise that comes late in the story. I will say this, I didn’t always know who to trust in the book, and when they showed up when they most certainly should not have was quite a question mark. I thought I had a plot hole really, but after several edits and far too much contemplation that there should’ve been, I realized that there was no plot hole but a very special character that I was surprised to meet.

ARCF: If you could step into Almost Paradise, which character would you want to be?

BTM: Daniel, Charles, and Beau have some really hard roads, and I do admire them a lot, but the most courageous and selfless character who I believe is just amazing is Chance. He is the lead missionary in Hell, urging those lost in Grayton to try to take the bus to Heaven. He has to be stealthy, and he goes to deeper circles of the Inferno to get particular souls into better situations. I admire his tenacity and his courage. He was a good guy in life and will go through hell to save others.

ARCF: What’s one of the most intense or exciting scenes in the book?

BTM: The first scene with Daniel is pretty nice. We do start with Chance, Charles, and Beau first, but when we get to Daniel, I believe that scene hits all the points that readers of Infernal Fall were hoping to get. I do think I do a good job painting the setting in all these scenes, but the emotions that Daniel is trying to come to terms with in his first scene (called The Disease) is pretty intense and makes promises that I try to uphold in future chapters.

ARCF: This is book 2 in the Infernal Fall series. How has the story grown since book 1?

BTM: One thing I wanted to do, although this is book 2, is write it as if it were a standalone. I wanted new readers to feel as if they were on track with the story even if they didn’t read Infernal Fall. The characters have all grown since the start of Infernal Fall and they have a lot more to do. It’s kind of nuts that all this takes place over the course of three days really. There were also more worlds brought into this one. The majority of Infernal Fall was in Dante’s Inferno. But the different story arcs in all kinds of directions and how they all come together at the end is quite fun.

ARCF: If you had to describe Almost Paradise in just three words, what would they be?

BTM: Part Three Please?

ARCF: If Almost Paradise became a movie, who would play Daniel?

BTM: This is a question my wife just loves to ask. We both know that we want Cillian Murphy as Heartless Charles. Though I’d be cool with a number of actors. For Daniel it’s harder because he’s younger. He has an edge to him. I had to use the internet to figure this one out because I’m just not good at this. But I believe Logan Lerman would do well. He’s been in Fury, the Percy Jackson films, and others of course. He fits the description. He’d want to feed off his time in Fury to understand Daniel’s anger issues.

ARCF: Would you rather battle a demon or negotiate with an angel?

BTM: This is tricky. If you are battling a demon, it means you are in an uncomfortable situation where you’re trying to improve yourself or help others. It isn’t easy. But, if you are negotiating with an angel, are you trying to get away with doing a lukewarm sin? Oh come on, Gabriel, it’s just one beer. That can be uncomfortable too, I think. However, if the negotiation is more about what’s for dinner or who should come for dinner, I’m all about that. So, I’m going to be a total wimp and say, I’d rather negotiate with an angel because, duh!

ARCF: If you had a magical stone, what power would you want it to have?

BTM: I’d like the stone to be able to transport me instantaneously to places I want to go. I’d be over there reading over your shoulder right now. Don’t turn around. I’m not there. Or am I.

ARCF: Writing supernatural fiction can be intense! What’s your favorite way to unwind?

BTM: I may do some reading or watch a movie. Other things could be running or playing with the kids. I play chess sometimes although I have no intention to ever achieve a grandmaster rating. But I’ll do puzzles and chat with friends and family. I just get on with living and smile, laugh, and dance. Maybe less dancing, though.

ARCF: Can you give us a hint about what’s coming for your writing?

BTM: I’m actually writing a Middle Grade Supernatural that I think will be tons of fun for the whole family. The working title is Iffy Eats Monsters for Breakfast, and it’s all about embracing our imagination and not allowing fear to dictate who we are.

How Your Thoughts Shape Your Health and Life

I remember a time when I felt stuck. My body was tired, my mind overwhelmed, and no matter how hard I tried to “think positive,” I couldn’t seem to make the lasting changes I so desperately needed. Maybe you’ve felt that way too—knowing that something needs to change but unsure where to start.

How Your Thoughts Shape Your Health and Life

Then I discovered something that changed everything: the power of my thinking habits. Most of us believe our struggles with health—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—are rooted in our actions. If I just eat healthier, exercise more, or push myself harder, then I’ll feel better. But what if the real key to transformation starts not with what we do, but with how we think?

That’s the foundation of Habit Finder Health, created by Dave Blanchard. Dave has spent years studying how our thinking habits shape our behaviors. Using Nobel Prize-nominated science, he’s identified 18 specific habits of thought—some that support us, and some that sabotage us. And let me tell you, when I first saw my own results, I realized I had been getting in my own way more than I ever imagined!

The Truth About Healthy ThoughtsThe Bible tells us in Romans 12:2 (NLT), “Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”

Notice it doesn’t say, “by changing your habits” or “by working harder.” No, real transformation begins in our minds.

Here are three healthy thinking principles I’ve learned from Dave’s insights:

1. Your Thoughts Either Serve You or Sabotage You

Have you ever noticed how one small thought can completely shift your day? Maybe you wake up and think, I’ll never lose weight. I always fail. That single thought becomes the lens through which you see everything—so when you face a challenge, you assume failure instead of finding a way forward.

But what if you changed the thought? Instead of I always fail, what if you told yourself, I am learning. I am growing. Each step matters. Suddenly, setbacks become learning opportunities, and you start to see progress instead of defeat.

2. Awareness is the First Step to Freedom

Most of us don’t even realize the negative patterns running through our minds. We wake up stressed, rush through the day feeling behind, and fall into bed exhausted—never stopping to ask, What am I thinking?

That’s why tools like Habit Finder Health are so powerful. They don’t just measure behavior; they measure thought patterns—so you can clearly see what’s working for you and what’s holding you back. Once you’re aware of your self-sabotaging thoughts, you can replace them with truth.

3. Intentional Creation Leads to Lasting Change

One of Dave’s core messages is that we must stay in creation—actively shaping our lives instead of simply reacting to circumstances. So often, we let life happen to us instead of realizing we have the ability to create something different.

Healthy thinking means asking:
✅ What do I want my health to look like?
✅ How do I want to feel emotionally, spiritually, and physically?
✅ What small steps can I take today to create that reality?

Change doesn’t happen overnight. But when we learn to think differently, we begin to live differently—and that’s when transformation takes root.

Take the First Step Toward Healthy Thoughts

If you’re ready to break free from negative thought patterns and discover the thinking habits that are shaping your life, I encourage you to take the Habit Finder Health Assessment. It’s not just another personality test—it’s a life-changing tool that reveals the ways your thoughts are influencing your health, decisions, and relationships.

Click here to take the free assessment!

I truly believe that healthy thinking is the key to lasting health—body, mind, and spirit. And the best part? With God’s help, you can transform your thoughts and your life.

You are not stuck.
You are not a failure.
You are a creator, designed by God for growth, joy, and purpose.

So today, let’s start with one thought:
💡 I am capable of change. And I’m ready to take the first step.

Are you with me? Let’s do this together.

Sex, Love, and God’s Best: What You Need to Know

Sex, Love, and God’s Best: What You Need to KnowPreparing for Important Conversations

Sex, Love, and God’s Best:
What You Need to Know“Do not awaken love before it is time.” – Song of Solomon 8:4

Let’s talk about something that’s often whispered about, joked about, or completely ignored—sex. Our culture is loud when it comes to relationships, intimacy, and desire. Movies, music, books, and social media flood our minds with messages about what love should look like. But what if we’ve been looking in the wrong places for the right answers?

Here’s the truth: Sex is not bad. In fact, God created it! It’s a beautiful and sacred part of His design. But like all good things, it’s meant to be used in the right way, at the right time.

God’s Plan for Love and Sex

From the very beginning, God had a plan for relationships. He created man and woman, telling them to “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28). Sex is a gift, meant to bring joy and intimacy within the safe, loving commitment of marriage. It’s not something shameful or dirty—it’s something holy and good.

But here’s where we often get it wrong: our hearts awaken before the right time.

The world pushes us toward instant gratification. Lust is marketed as love. Boundaries are seen as restrictions instead of protection. And because we’re human, we often make decisions based on emotions rather than wisdom.

The Slippery Slope: When Love Awakens Too Soon

We don’t usually wake up one day and decide to cross the line—it happens gradually. A little compromise here, a little excuse there. Before we know it, we’re further than we ever intended to go.

That’s why boundaries matter.
That’s why wisdom matters.
That’s why knowing God’s best matters.

Maybe you’ve heard the phrase, “Everything but sex is okay.” The problem? One thing leads to another. The more we allow, the more we accept. The more we accept, the harder it is to stop. It’s a slippery slope.

The Consequences of Rushing Ahead

Here’s something no one likes to talk about—sex isn’t just physical. It connects us emotionally and spiritually. That’s why God asks us to wait—because the consequences are real.

Pregnancy happens. The only way to guarantee it won’t? Abstinence.STDs happen. And they don’t require intercourse—just physical contact.Heartbreak happens. Giving your body to someone who doesn’t commit to your heart leaves scars.Guilt happens. And sometimes, it weighs heavier than we expected.Respect, Consent, and Real Love

Love isn’t manipulation. Love isn’t pressure. Love isn’t convincing someone to do something they’re uncomfortable with.

Real love respects boundaries.
Real love honors the other person’s heart and future.
Real love waits.

If you ever feel like you need to hide something from your parents, pastor, or trusted adults—that’s a sign. Your conscience is telling you something. Listen to it.

What About Sexual Abuse?

If your purity was taken from you, hear this: IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT.

Sadly, many people have been abused or forced into situations against their will. If that’s you, know that God sees you. He grieves with you. And He wants to bring healing.

You are not broken.
You are not dirty.
You are not unworthy of love.

Please reach out to someone—a parent, pastor, counselor—someone who can walk with you toward healing. Your story does not end in shame.

Purity in a Digital World

One quick note about social media: DO NOT SEND OR ASK FOR PHOTOS.

It might feel harmless in the moment. It might feel exciting. But once something is out there, you can’t take it back. Even if someone promises to keep it private, you have no control over what happens next.

Protect yourself.
Protect your future.
Your worth is not found in how much skin you show—it’s found in Christ.

Can We Start Over?

Maybe you’ve already crossed lines you regret. Maybe you’ve ignored wisdom in the past. Maybe you feel like it’s too late for you.

It’s not.

God is a God of new beginnings. He doesn’t look at you with shame—He looks at you with love.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9

Whether you’re waiting for marriage or looking for a fresh start, God’s grace is enough.

A Final Word: Choosing God’s Best

At the end of the day, this isn’t just about rules—it’s about freedom.

God’s plan for sex isn’t about keeping you from something fun. It’s about protecting you for something better.

Wait because you are worth it.Wait because love isn’t meant to be rushed.Wait because God’s best is always worth the wait.

And if you didn’t wait? Start fresh today. God’s grace is bigger than your past.

Let’s commit to walking in wisdom, choosing God’s best, and honoring the gift of love—in His time, in His way.

Breaking the Habit of Anxiety

I remember a season in my life when anxiety felt like a constant companion. No matter what I did, it was always there—lingering in the back of my mind, whispering worst-case scenarios, making my heart race over things that hadn’t even happened yet. Maybe you’ve felt that way, too.

Breaking the Habit of Anxiety: Finding Peace in the Overwhelm

The world tells us that anxiety is just a part of life. But what if I told you that anxiety isn’t just an emotion—it can be a habit? Ed Mylett, a well-known speaker and entrepreneur, teaches that our brains create patterns based on what we repeatedly do and think. If we constantly respond to stress with worry, our minds start making that our default reaction. Anxiety becomes our go-to habit, even when there’s no real danger.

But here’s the truth: God did not create us to live in fear.

The Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT):
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline."

If anxiety is a habit, that means we can break it—and replace it with a mindset of peace, trust, and resilience.

Why Do We Struggle with Anxiety?

First, let’s acknowledge the real reasons why we feel anxious:

📌 Unrealistic Expectations – We pile too much on our plates, thinking we have to do it all, be it all, and never fall behind. When we can’t keep up, we feel overwhelmed.
📌 Fear of the Unknown – We want to control the future, but when things feel uncertain, our minds race with worry.
📌 Comparison Culture – Social media makes it easy to compare our behind-the-scenes struggles to someone else’s highlight reel, leaving us feeling “not good enough.”
📌 Lack of Rest – God created us to work from rest, not work until we collapse. When we’re constantly on the go, anxiety builds up.
📌 Trying to Carry It Alone – Anxiety grows when we keep our struggles hidden instead of bringing them to God and trusted people.

Jesus invites us to do something radical with our anxiety. Instead of carrying it alone, He says:

"Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you."1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)

That means we don’t have to stay stuck in anxious patterns. We can break the habit and create a new way of thinking.

How to Break the Habit of Anxiety

Anxiety doesn’t disappear overnight. But just like replacing a bad habit with a good one, we can train our minds to respond differently to stress.

1. Recognize Anxiety for What It Is

Anxiety thrives in the shadows. The first step to overcoming it is bringing it into the light.

🔹 Ask yourself: Is this worry based on truth, or is it based on fear?
🔹 Write it down: When a worry pops into your head, write it in a journal. Seeing it on paper helps you process and pray over it instead of replaying it.
🔹 Speak truth over fear: Replace your anxious thoughts with God’s promises.

💡 Biblical Truth to Replace Anxiety:
"Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand."Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)2. Change How You Start Your Day

If you wake up and immediately scroll social media, check emails, and rush into your schedule, your brain is already in reactive mode. Instead, start your day with intentional peace.

✅ Pray before you reach for your phone.
✅ Listen to worship music while getting ready.
✅ Speak life over yourself (“God is with me today. I will not be afraid.”).
✅ Read Scripture, even if it’s just 5 minutes before the world’s noise fills your mind.

💡 Morning Verse for Peace:
"This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it."Psalm 118:24 (NLT)3. Stop Expecting Perfection (Overwhelm is a Choice!)

I once heard someone say, “Overwhelm is a choice.” At first, I disagreed. Surely, we don’t choose to feel overwhelmed, right?

But then I realized… a day is just a day. It’s the expectations we put on it that make it feel impossible.

If you go into your day thinking:
🔸 I have to get EVERYTHING done.
🔸 I can’t make any mistakes.
🔸 I must keep everyone happy.

…you will feel overwhelmed before you even start.

Instead, try this:
✔ Prioritize 3 things you must get done today instead of a never-ending list.
✔ Accept that progress is better than perfection.
✔ Give yourself grace—God doesn’t expect perfection from you, so why should you?

💡 Freedom from Perfection Verse:
"My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness."2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT)4. Focus on What You Can Control

Many times, anxiety comes from focusing on things we can’t control—the future, other people’s opinions, unexpected problems. Instead of wasting energy on the unknown, focus on what you can do.

➡ You can control how you talk to yourself.
➡ You can control how you respond to stress.
➡ You can control how much time you spend with God.

When your mind starts spinning with what-ifs, pause and ask: What is within my control right now?

💡 Peace in Uncertainty Verse:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding."Proverbs 3:5 (NLT)5. Let God Carry What You Cannot

If you only take one thing from this post, let it be this:

You don’t have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Jesus invites us to trade our heavy burdens for His peace.

"Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."Matthew 11:28 (NLT)

That means:
🤍 You don’t have to have everything figured out.
🤍 You are not alone in your struggles.
🤍 God is bigger than your biggest worry.

Every time anxiety creeps in, take it to Him. Say:

“God, I give this worry to You. I trust You to take care of it.”

Final Thoughts: You Are Not Stuck

Anxiety doesn’t have to rule your life. You have a choice.

✅ You can choose to replace fear with faith.
✅ You can choose to change your thoughts.
✅ You can choose to lean on God’s strength, not your own.

And when you do? Peace replaces panic. Trust replaces fear. And joy replaces overwhelm.💬 Let’s Talk!

Walk Down Memory Lane: Numbers 33 Unveiled

Numbers 33 is a written record of Israel’s 40-year journey, revealing pivotal moments and God’s unwavering guidance. The death of Aaron at Mount Hor marks a significant transition. As God gives final instructions, including the importance of driving out the inhabitants, we sense the gravity of the journey ahead.

Word of the Day: Portion

Exploring the word of the day, “portion,” we discover its profound meanings. It’s not merely a share of land; it symbolizes destiny, lot, and a person’s unique place in God’s plan. The promise in Exodus 19:5 solidifies the Israelites as God’s special treasure with the entire earth belonging to Him.

True Change Through Jesus: A Transformative Journey

Reflecting on the Israelites’ struggles and sin cycles, we recognize that true change can only come through Jesus. The land was a fulfillment of God’s promise, but the greatest gift was God Himself. Jesus brings true heart change, breaking the sin and repentance cycle, and extending the promise to all nations.

Boundaries and Refuge

Numbers may have felt long, but Israel’s journey was far longer, marred by rebellion and struggles. Yet, God’s faithfulness never wavered. Despite their shortcomings, He protected and blessed them abundantly, a testament to His unwavering love.

Boundaries and Inheritance: God’s Design

In Numbers 34, God establishes boundaries for the Israelites in Canaan, reflecting His divine plan for order and inheritance. Leaders are appointed to divide land, underscoring the importance of God’s guidance in our earthly endeavors.

Cities of Refuge: A Sanctuary in Peril

The provision of cities of refuge in Numbers 35 offers a glimpse of God’s mercy and justice. Amidst swift retribution, these cities provide sanctuary for the accused, symbolizing God’s protection and redemption.

Word of the Day: Refuge

Today’s word, “refuge,” holds profound significance in Numbers. Just as accused individuals sought sanctuary in cities of refuge, we find solace and safety in God’s loving embrace. In our darkest moments, He is our shield and stronghold.

Personal Takeaway: Finding Refuge in God

Reflecting on personal experiences, like finding refuge amidst adversity, reminds us of God’s ever-present care. Just as Psalm 46 reassures, He is our refuge and strength, a constant source of hope and protection.

Seeking Refuge Today

If you’re facing insecurity or fear, know God offers refuge. Through prayer and seeking His presence, we find solace and safety. Trust in His provision, for He is faithful to shelter and guide us through life’s storms.

Deuteronomy 1-2, 3:1-20 Secured and Fixed

Deuteronomy serves as a compass, guiding the Israelites from the wilderness to the Promised Land. Moses, the faithful leader, delivers powerful speeches, reminding the people of their covenant with God and the importance of obedience. This book is not merely a repetition of laws but a call to remember, learn, and flourish in the new land they are about to enter.

The “Promise Sandwich” – A Divine Blueprint

The opening chapters reveal a unique literary pattern—a “promise sandwich.” Nestled between God’s promises are essential commands. It’s a divine blueprint for success: “I am giving this land to you,” echoes the promise, followed by the command to occupy it, all rooted in the ancestral promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Deuteronomy 1:8). This structure amplifies the significance of God’s commitment to His people.

Historical Reminders: Learning from the Past

Moses walks the Israelites through key historical moments: leadership appointments, scouting missions, rebellion, and encounters with other nations. These aren’t just recounts; they’re vital lessons. Understanding past mistakes ensures a brighter future. The moving assurance from Moses, “The Lord your God is going ahead of you,” resonates, offering comfort and courage.

Boundaries: God’s Fair Play

God, in His wisdom, establishes boundaries for Israel. Territories are marked, not only for them but also for the descendants of Esau (Edomites) and Lot (Moabites). This displays God’s fairness, securing land for all related to the patriarchs. It is a powerful reminder that God’s plan encompasses more than just one nation.

The Unseen Hand of God

We note the intricate details surrounding the Edomites, revealing God’s continual involvement beyond Israel. The historical journey of the Edomites, from ancient records to the prophecies in Isaiah, unveils a God who cares for all His creations. It’s a testimony to God’s redemption, even for those who rebelled against Him.

Secured and Fixed: Our Personal Takeaway

As we navigate through the layers of Deuteronomy, the resounding message is clear: God’s faithfulness endures. The hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness” encapsulates this beautifully. The personal testimony in Deuteronomy 1:31 reinforces the notion of God caring for us like a loving father.

Word of the Day: Secured

Before we conclude, let’s not forget our word for today: secured. Just as God secures territories for His people, our faith in Jesus secures and fixes us. Incorporate this keyword into your reflections on faith, promises, and God’s enduring love.

In Deuteronomy, we find a divine symphony—a melody of promises, commands, historical lessons, and God’s unwavering faithfulness. As you dive into these chapters, you will find both historical accounts and living testimonies of God’s love. And remember, our faith is secured and fixed in the eternal, unchanging God.

Deuteronomy 3:21-29
, Deuteronomy 4-5 Wisdom, Promises, and Pleas for Obedience

Yesterday marked the beginning of our journey through Deuteronomy, a book that may seem like a repetitive echo of Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers. However, don’t let exhaustion cloud the profound messages it carries. Deuteronomy is the passionate preaching of God’s law by Moses, unfolding on the plains of Moab. As we read, we witness Moses urging the people to learn from past mistakes, follow God’s law, and embrace His ways. This final book of the Pentateuch echoes God’s promises and emphasizes the importance of remembrance.

Assurance for the Promised Land: Wisdom and Obedience

Israel is about to enter the Promised Land! What assurance does Joshua have? That the Lord will fight for him.

As the Israelites stand on the brink of the Promised Land, Moses, denied entry, imparts crucial wisdom. Victory lies not in might but in wisdom and complete obedience. Deuteronomy 4:6-7 highlights this, underscoring God’s proximity to His people. The assurance for the journey is clear: obey the decrees, live, enter, and occupy the promised land.

In Moses’s final words, a plea echoes: “Never forget.” The emphasis on passing down the memories to future generations becomes paramount. Even in the face of potential disobedience, Moses assures them of God’s mercy and the eventual return to Him.

Covenant and Consequences: A Binding Relationship

The term “cut a covenant” resounds through Deuteronomy, an act deeply rooted in ancient traditions. Moses emphasizes this sacred bond—a relationship marked by loyalty, commitment, and faithfulness. The covenant isn’t just an agreement but a profound connection between God and His people. This theme echoes throughout the Bible, culminating in the new covenant through Christ, offering redemption to humanity.

Commandments Revisited: Pleas for Remembrance and Obedience

Chapter 5 revisits the fundamental commandments, emphasizing God’s covenant with His people. Moses reminds them of God’s attempt to speak directly to them, their fear, and the plea for him to be the intermediary. Amidst repetition, Moses underscores the importance of remembrance and obedience, using phrases like “Be careful,” “Never forget,” and “Obey completely.”

Word of the Day: Supplication

Amid Moses’s tender moments and heartfelt pleas, our Word of the Day is “Supplication”—asking or begging for something earnestly or humbly. Moses exemplifies this in his dialogue with God and his earnest requests for the people to listen, understand, and obey.

Moses’s Legacy of Faith and Supplication

As we conclude today’s reflection, we see Moses, the leader, and supplicant, laying the foundation for the Israelites’ journey. His passionate pleas for obedience, remembrance, and wisdom resonate with a parent’s heartfelt reminders. In supplication, Moses falls on his face, embodying a powerful act of faith.

Deuteronomy 6-9
Love, Obedience, and Wholehearted Devotion

Imagine yourself sitting on the brink of the Jordan River, about to cross into the Promised Land. Moses, the revered leader, addresses you and your fellow travelers, sharing the history of the last 40 years and emphasizing the commands God has for His people. These commands, echoing the call to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and strength, are to be obeyed, shaping a life dedicated to God.

Listen, O Israel!

Moses passionately declares, urging the people to acknowledge the Lord as their God, the only one. The recurring theme? Love God with everything, committing wholeheartedly to His commands. Why? As the Israelites approach the promised land, Moses wants them to remember their journey and not forget how God rescued them. The Lord is among them, guiding their steps, ensuring they conquer the land step by step.

Every Word from the Mouth of God

Moses recalls the times of testing and humbling, echoing Jesus’ words in the New Testament. “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” But what does this mean? It’s an invitation to ponder the significance of God’s words—His law. Obeying the law meant choosing life, a concept later reinforced by Jesus during his 40-day fast in the wilderness.

Word of the Day: Wholeheartedly

“Wholeheartedly,” signifies complete and sincere dedication. Amidst the repetition of laws, Deuteronomy unveils a beautiful truth. For 40 years, God’s people wandered miraculously, their clothes and feet untouched. Now, as they approach a land flowing with abundance, Moses emphasizes the importance of wholehearted devotion.

The Legacy of Elisabeth Elliot

Reflecting on wholehearted devotion, we draw inspiration from the life of Elisabeth Elliot. Despite tragedy and loss, Elisabeth chose to remain in Ecuador, continuing her mission work among the Auka Indians. Her story exemplifies unwavering commitment to God’s call, even in the face of great personal cost.

Teaching Future Generations

As Moses implores the Israelites to obey, praise, and remember, we too must teach our children. Elisabeth Elliot’s example reminds us that a life of wholehearted devotion comes with challenges, but the rewards are worth the cost. We must trust God for everything, just as our elderly loved ones, like my 94-year-old grandmother, trust us for care.

In a world full of distractions, maintaining wholehearted devotion requires looking back on God’s faithfulness, trusting Him for everything, and teaching future generations. Our journey through Deuteronomy invites us to fight the good fight for true faith, holding tightly to the eternal life God has called us to. Let us remain dedicated, for, at the right time, Christ will be revealed, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords.

Deuteronomy 10-12
Clinging to God

Moses continues the narrative of the last 40 years, reminiscent of family tales. Like sharing memories with in-laws, Moses focuses on the big picture, not exact details. It’s a summary, not a perfectly detailed account. Moses places the tablets in the Ark, emphasizing the grand tale over the fine details.

Requirements for a Blessed Life

Deuteronomy 10:12 echoes the core requirements: fear God, live to please Him, love and serve Him with all your heart and soul. Moses repeats these concepts—fear, live, love, obey, cling, and tell your children. These aren’t just words; they’re a blueprint for a blessed life.

The Land of Abundance: A Promise and a Condition

Moses paints a picture of the wonderful land awaiting the Israelites, contingent on one thing—obedience. God promises abundance, feasting in His presence. In Chapter 12, Moses urges them to erase foreign gods from the land. It’s a land of rejoicing, but obedience is the key.

Conditions and Consequences

Conditions arise—be careful not to turn away from God. If they do, consequences follow: God’s anger, drought, and failure in the land. Commit to God’s Word for a flourishing life. Moses emphasizes the choice—obey and thrive or turn away and face repercussions.

The Sanctity of Blood

Deuteronomy emphasizes not consuming blood; it’s the lifeblood. As we partake in the Lord’s Supper, symbolizing Christ’s blood, we’re reminded of the newness of life in Him.

Word of the Day: Cling

Today’s word, “Cling,” is a powerful verb. Moses urges the Israelites to cling to God actively. It’s about trusting His promises, seeking His favor, and living for His approval. Clinging isn’t passive—it’s a vibrant, intentional choice.

A Challenge for Today

Moses, knowing his days are short, wants the point to stick—fear, live, love, obey, and cling. Today, let’s be active in our faith. Write down one way to actively cling to God by sharing one good thing God’s done for you today.

Deuteronomy 13-15, 16:1-17
Vows, Warfare, and Spiritual Vigilance

Deuteronomy 13 issues a stern warning against false prophets and idolatry. Even close family members or entire towns should not be spared if they lead people away from God. God commands unwavering action—show no mercy, do not spare, and put them to death. It’s a reminder of God’s mercy for those who listen and obey.

Tithes and Celebrations in God’s Presence

Dietary laws, tithes (1/10), and celebrations take center stage. Bringing the tithe and feasting in God’s presence is a captivating concept. Even if living far away, they were to use the money to celebrate with their household. A contingency plan that reflects the joy of God’s blessings.

Forgiveness and Liberation

Deuteronomy 15 introduces the year of release, emphasizing debt forgiveness and the release of slaves in the seventh year. The Israelites are instructed to set aside the firstborn of their herds and flocks for the Lord, eating them in His presence. It’s a powerful symbol of acknowledging God’s ownership.

Word of the Day: Celebrate

Passover, Festival of Unleavened Bread, Festival of the Harvest, and Festival of Shelters were not just rituals but celebrations. Sacrifices foreshadow Christ’s ability to continually cover our sins. Yet, do we miss the celebration? God wants us to rejoice in His blessings.

Offering as a Celebration

What if our tithe was a feast in God’s presence with our household? Or if our voluntary offerings were celebrated with family, friends, and those in need? Deuteronomy 16 encourages celebration before the Lord. Celebrating the Lord’s goodness is a profound witness of God’s blessings, requiring no evangelism class. People witness God’s favor and want to know more.

Harvest Festivals and Remembrance

Reflect on the festivals—Passover, Festival of the Harvest, and Festival of Shelters. They were more than events; they were opportunities to remember God’s goodness. Today, let’s infuse celebration into our giving, creating a witness that speaks louder than words.

ARCF: Green Pastures is about three sisters facing big challenges. What inspired their stories?

PJ: First of all, when looking at the lives of sisters, they are always more intertwined than they even want to be. So I wanted to look at that relationship between three sisters—one who left and came back, and two who stayed. Tabitha is very much a prodigal daughter. She hit rock bottom in her Englisch life and when she comes home again, she knows she made mistakes, and she wants to find a way to contribute in more than just her rather shocking job of veterinarian. So this book started with Tabitha in my mind, but then I asked myself: how would Tabitha’s choices have affected her sisters? And how do they feel about that NOW?

ARCF: Tabitha returns to her Amish community after leaving during rumspringa and going through a divorce. How hard is it for someone in her situation to come back?

PJ: It would be incredibly difficult for her to go home again. First of all, for the Amish, marriage is for life. That means that as long as her ex-husband is living, she can’t remarry. So going home would mean never getting married again, and the Amish communities are very much about marriage and children. So by humbly returning, she’s going to be outside the most important social circles, and very much misunderstood. Amish women simply wouldn’t understand a divorced woman’s experience. So it’s a very brave step!

ARCF: This book is about faith, love, and finding your place. Was there a scene that was especially hard to write?

PJ: The scene that was most emotional for me to write is at the end of the book, and if I say anything about it, I’ll ruin the plot. So you’ll probably not want me to answer that.

ARCF: Can you describe each sister in just three words?

PJ: Tabitha—humbled, earnest, scarred
Amanda—determined, strong, vulnerable
Rose—overwhelmed, embarrassed, hopeful

ARCF: The sisters struggle between following tradition and chasing their dreams. Which of them do you relate to the most?

PJ: That’s a hard one to answer, because I relate to all of them a little bit. With Tabitha, I relate to her desire for education and to achieve more. I also understand how doing something different in life can set you outside of the normal circles. With Amanda, I identify with her determination to see her deepest desires fulfilled, even if that means doing something a little differently. And with Rose, I completely understand how marriage isn’t as easy as it looks from the outside. And marriage isn’t the end of the story—it’s only the beginning! So in all three sisters I find a little bit of myself.

ARCF: The Amish have many traditions. Did you learn something surprising while writing this book?

PJ: This book didn’t cover any new traditions that I didn’t know about before, but I did learn a lot about large animal veterinarian services! For example—how much can go wrong if cattle eat the wrong thing. Did you know a cow can die from bloating if they get the wrong feed?

ARCF: If you could switch lives with one of the sisters for a day, who would you choose and why?

PJ: I think I would choose Tabitha, just because she has the added freedom of being the local community’s veterinarian and she gets to go from farm to farm, seeing old friends and making a difference.

ARCF: What’s one interesting thing about Amish life that most people don’t know?

PJ: People might not know that when the Amish sit in church, the women and men sit on different sides of the service, and they file in to take their seats in order of oldest to youngest. Little children will be with their mother or father, but someone who has grown up in that community could go their entire life seated next to the same person in church every Service Sunday because of when their birthday falls.

ARCF: Did you always know how the sisters’ stories would end, or did things change as you wrote?

PJ: I had a good idea of how their stories would end, but a few things changed as I wrote. That always happens for me. I plot out the story, and then the characters grow and develop in ways I might not have anticipated with writing. One thing that changed was how Rose’s story ended.

ARCF: What do you hope readers learn from Green Pastures?

PJ: I hope that readers put down the book with a feeling of hope for their own lives. Life can be complicated, and it doesn’t always go the way we plan. But God still has a plan for each of us, and we matter to the big picture! Also, I truly believe that there is a lid for every pot. I hope that readers take away a little slice of my romantic view of the world.

ARCF: If Green Pastures became a movie, who would you cast as the three sisters?

PJ: Okay, I’m going to choose actresses who aren’t young today, so technically the casting wouldn’t work. But I see Tabitha as a Meryl Streep type—brave, composed, and regal. I think Amanda is a bit like Sandra Bullock—always the good girl, but willing to stretch a few limits to get her dreams fulfilled. And Rose is like Reese Witherspoon—cute, bouncy, and expecting life to go her way because it always has.

ARCF: If you could have dinner with one of your characters, who would it be?

PJ: I think I’d choose Rose! She has learned a lot by the end of the book, and I think that we could have a good heart-to-heart about love, romance, and marriage. She might even have some hard-won wisdom she could pass along.

ARCF: The Amish live without modern technology. If you had to give up one modern convenience for a month, what would it be?

PJ: That would be tough! I can’t live without the internet or my computer for work. So that means I need electricity. If absolutely forced, I think I could give up my phone, although I’d certainly go through withdrawal. Maybe my car would be something I could give up—calling a taxi to run errands, or getting a ride from a family member. I think my family would be awfully ready for me to get my car back at the end of the month, though! So I think I’d have to stick with giving up my phone for a month. It would be less burdensome on the people in my life.

ARCF: If you lived in an Amish community, what job do you think you’d be good at?

PJ: This is where I’d be humbled. I’d have to help out other more knowledgeable women and let them give me direction. I’m a decent cook, so I think I could make some good meals once I got used to wood stoves. But cooking for large crowds would be a fresh challenge! Honestly, my biggest talent is telling stories, so maybe my community would be more forgiving of my other shortcomings if I could write down our community’s stories of faith and endurance for posterity’s sake.

ARCF: What’s your favorite way to relax after writing?

PJ: I love reading, and when I go to the gym I’ll always have a book with me (normally an ebook I can read on my phone) so I can make the time more pleasant. I enjoy my dollhouse miniature hobby, so I enjoy collecting new little miniatures for my scenes. I also enjoy knitting. It’s soothing. But normally when I’m finished writing for the day, I’m catching up with my son’s life, listening to my husband talk about his day, and getting supper ready for everyone to eat. So when my writing day ends, my life gets busy in other ways. I really can’t complain, though. My family really is the center of my world.
