Blasty is no longer Blasting?!?!?!?!
Since writing this blog post Blasty has come back online but as previously stated the help area and such is still disabled.
One of the things when you step into the world of publishing that fellow authors jump on and tell you to sign up quite early on in your book career to, is Blasty…. or formerly Blasty. It was a site that acted as a tool for fighting book piracy and I myself had been a paid member for almost two years.
I was a trusting member, so it comes as a huge shock to find this post circulating the book world today (it’s 2 weeks old but it has only started circulating to my end of the woods.)

Imagine my shock when I scrolled down the comments, wondering if this could be true and saw the update from only yesterday!! See the FB post here

Like a good little investigator I swung over to my Blasty dashboard and was met with the worst of my fears. An error message telling me that the address was no longer recognised. Unperturbed I swooped to my email, found a blast report from recently and clicked the ‘see blasts’ button, hoping it was just a google chrome error.
Nope.
Blasty is gone!!! (Edit – WAS, it appears to be back)
Much to my dismay, rumour is now circulating that their own CEO up and left it months ago and all the reports and so called blasts we have been notified of ever since are fake reports.
I cannot confirm whether that is true or not but I advise anyone who was a paid member to contact your bank and recall recent payments and block future ones. Having no access to the dashboard means we cannot do it ourselves. I have already contacted my bank and actioned this and I urge you to not rely on an auto cancel with the website disappearing.
I am gutted about the way this website has bowed out and not even played fair by it’s loyal paid members. They could have informed us they were dissolving and ceased all memberships.
I was reading more and more lately that Blasty was not as efficient as they claimed to be and found several blogs outing them for masking the piracy issue rather than removing books. I do wonder if these wave of blogs were what ended their reign.
I only know what my experience has been and even though I had the auto blast function I did tend to send my own emails to pirate sites for take downs and have found my books removed from several places. I cannot say if the blasted ones were removed as there has been implications that Blasty only had the links themselves removed from google and not the actual books. I cannot confirm this but you can search blogs on this topic all over google from much more experienced users.
Only time will tell I guess.
In the meantime I guess we have to go back to emailing, fighting piracy on our own again and manually searching for our books. I will miss it’s ability to find even the vaguest links for me to act upon.
If anyone has any alternate websites then let us know and we will add to this post.

The pirate site stealing our books!
I don’t know if many are aware that another website has popped up that is distributing so many books illegally and acting like it’s no big deal.
I was first made aware of this in a writers group and was shocked to find a lot of the authors listed had been blocked from viewing the website.
Luckily I have not found any of my own books yet, so I am hoping they are not on there but I have found many fellow authors I know and I have seen them trying to get them removed on this thread on twitter.

The owner of the website doesn’t seem to care that he is breaching copyright or illegally sharing our books. Claiming it’s easy to remove books has been proven to be a lie. People on the thread have done so and yet their books remain.

I am sick to death of soulless asses like this taking a free ride on the back of authors hard work, sweat and tears. They have zero respect for what we do and act like they have a right to take from us and share it any way they please.
It’s almost as if laws on copyright and intellectual property do not exist. Well he is about to find out that they do in fact exist, and happen to be international too. I hope to god some of the commenters who have been affected on his thread do send their lawyers after him.
He will be singing a different tune when he is slapped with a bunch of law suits from these disgruntled authors.
Forward this to fellow authors and publishers and see if the mass mob in the #writingcommunity can have another website dissolved.

It’s had so many delays with personal issues getting in the way, but it is finally here. Sadly we made the decision to limit the mag from 4 a year to two, just due to how hectic my life has been for the last few months. We have cancelled paper copy subscriptions and contacted those of you who had signed up. The new sign up will be live soon for future issues or you can buy the single copies from the online store soon enough.

Parents Beware.
This is an awareness post for parents who frequent parks with their children to be extra diligent. Please check the equipment before using it. There are some sick people in the world.
Today at around 2pm-ish my partner took my daughter and the dog to the park nearby to give the dogs some exercise. When they got there it started raining so they went for the little slide shelter to climb inside until it passed.
My partner sliced it open very badly on something placed just inside on a part where most kids would grab onto.

He managed to get the blade out, despite bleeding like a loon. Something he said took a lot of effort as it had been knocked in so firmly and he returned home, where I insisted that he call the police.
He is currently at the A and E because this is so deep they want to Xray it and he has to be seen by plastic surgery today. He may need surgery.
Imagine if this was a little child’s hand!
My partner has pretty big and rough hands, he works hands on as a joiner, has a lot of very tough skin and muscle and it’s done a lot of damage. A child’s hand would have been so much worse.
Who does this? Why would you do this?
We have contacted the police, the local council and spread the word to our local village community group. The council are currently fully inspecting the park for anymore to make sure it was a one off but judging by some of the comments on his FB post, this is more common than we realise.
My partner will live but who knows what filth was on that blade.
This was Scotland. Wester Inch village in Bathgate, which is a pretty new and lovely place to live normally. Lot’s of bought houses and really nice people and yet here we are. Some arsehole thinks this is funny. Sick , sick people.
Check your parks before letting your kids use them. This has made me sick to my stomach today and I won’t be letting mine go there without me from now on.
