Signs you're living with an addict:
The addict will protect their lie at any cost. Turning the tables on anyone, making them out to be the enemy. Even the ones who want to help. The victim of the addict's attack will question themselves, possibly think they are somehow to blame for the addict's behavior. Or, the victim will totally shut the addict out, making the addict's world even smaller.
Why?
The addict's body has gone into a survival mode at the altar of a drug that will eventually kill them. The addict worships the "high" and will do anything for that false god. I mean anything. They will talk about the "pain" they experience but in most cases, it won't be physical pain.
How to help?
Don't react. Don't fall into their trap. And, don't facilitate. Stay with the addict. Love their soul. Hate their actions. (Not because they are hurting you, but because they are hurting themselves.) Proverbs says to correct a fool is to make an enemy. Keep that verse close to you as you attempt to intervene.

Amazon Review:
It's a military thriller with a heart. Commander Mark Steele has an exciting job in Special Forces. Though it's dangerous, he knows his work is critically important. But that job separates him from his wife and child. When an injury brings him home, his wife is glad to have him back. But other issues cause struggles within the family, leading to distrust and hurt. Steele takes dangerous risks in his new work. The thriller plot thickens, as he seeks to save a life. But can he save his family?

Why I'm Happy to be a Christian
One statement I found to be untrue is: God doesn't give us any more than we can handle. The context of that verse is speaking of sin. We can never say, "I was given so much I had to sin."
Life does throw more at us than we can handle. I'm there now. As maybe you are as well. The great thing about serving God through Jesus by the Holy Spirit is His impressions.
I lacked motivation this morning. Downright dread of the day. God dropped something in my mind (an impression) and like underdog coming out of a phone booth, I'm a different person. The problems haven't gone away, just the darkness.
You may be saying, "Tell us what God said." I'd rather not because the word was personal, just for me. That's why I love being a Christian. God deals with each of us on a one-on-one basis. This morning I was prepared to listen. I heard and responded.

Josephine, A Short Story by Randy Tramp
Allison shouted upstairs, “Josephine, daddy’s leaving. Please come here.” The thirty-year-old mother cleared her throat and called again. Nothing. She handed Roosevelt his briefcase, received a kiss from him, then went to her daughter’s bedroom. The room was perfect, with nothing out of place. Even the bed looked like no one slept in it. “Josephine, where are you hiding? No goodbye hugs for Daddy?” Tiptoeing to the closet, Allison slowly turned the doorknob. Expecting her daughter to spring forward, Allison swung open the door. “Why are you in here?” Looking like her mom, the curly blonde-haired little girl sat in the corner. “I’m playing with Joey.” “There’s no one with you.” “Yes, Mommy, there is. He’s right here and he’s six-years-old today.” Allison helped Josephine stand. “That’s nice. Go outside and play so I can clean your room.” “Can Joey go with me?” “There’s no Joey. Why can’t you understand?” Hand in hand, they went to the kitchen, then outside. “Don’t get dirty.” “No Mommy. I won’t go outside. Not without Joey” Josephine ran to her room, a distressed mother behind her. After opening the closet, Josephine took her imaginary friend’s hand and strutted outside. Why did her daughter act this way? She was sweet before her imaginary friend arrived. With a broom in hand, Allison swept her daughter’s bedroom, then pulled back the sheets and remade the bed. After thirty minutes and with her daily routine accomplished, she went to the kitchen and sat. Told they’d have no children, Josephine surprised them. After five years of trying and a difficult delivery, their daughter arrived. She was her little girl, one she’d have forever. No one would take her away. No one! After a couple of hours, she went to the tree house. Two voices emanated from the wooden structure. Roosevelt had built the tree house two years ago. Allison, three months ago, had painted it green and brown, two of her favorite colors. She climbed the ladder. “Who’s in there with you?” “You wouldn’t believe me, Mommy.” Allison stepped into the seven-by-seven foot room. “I heard two voices.” “Joey is afraid of you. He left.” Allison walked to the window. “There’s no one there.” “You’re a bad Mommy.” “Please don’t say that… I want us to spend time together, just you and me.” Allison took a small teacup and pretended to pour tea into it. She handed it to Josephine, who wouldn’t take the cup. The six-year-old folded her arms and lowered her head. “Have it your way. I’ll call you when it’s time for lunch.” In the kitchen, she prepared two grilled cheese sandwiches and placed one at Josephine’s place and another next to her. Not wanting to fight her daughter any longer, Allison decided to give in, at least for her birthday. If she wanted to believe in an imaginary friend today, she could. Opening the back door, she yelled, “Josephine and Joey, come in for lunch.” “Okay, Mommy.” Her daughter ran and took her seat at the table. Allison had heated a bowl of tomato soup for herself. She took a spoonful. “Aren’t you hungry?” “Yes, Mommy, but I’m waiting for Joey to take the first bite.” Allison faked a smile as Josephine held her sandwich. “Want to help me put up decorations for your birthday?” “I’d rather go swimming.” “No.” The word came out too strong. Her daughter’s eyes widened. Josephine stood. In a soft motherly voice, she said. “Please help me.” Josephine dropped her uneaten sandwich and ran outside. Again, Allison cried. After regaining control, she coaxed her little girl back into the house and together they spent the afternoon hanging decorations, stopping at the sound of the front door. “Daddy’s home.” “Allison?” Roosevelt called. With Josephine at her side, Allison greeted her husband in the living room. “Come into Josephine’s room; We decorated for her birthday.” Face fallen, lines spread across his forehead, Roosevelt reluctantly followed his wife. “Aren’t you going to hug your daughter?” Roosevelt turned and left the room. No hugs. No compliments on the decorations. A vision flashed. Floating body. Pale skin. Swimming Pool. Josephine’s funeral—one year ago. Allison shook her head and continued to decorate.

German/Russian Day Camp

They were married in 1857 in Kassel, Russia. The Germans from Russia Heritage Society of Kaylor, SD is hosting its second annual day camp for kids grade K-8th on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
“German Russians are very proud of their unique heritage,” says Vi Ranney, a member of the Heritage Society. “We want our children to learn about this to keep our German-Russian heritage alive.”
The event will show children the hard life for those who came to the Dakota Territory from Russia in the 1870’s. Participants will experience homemade ice cream, snapping beans/peeling potatoes for green bean soup, husking sweet corn, churning butter, and baking kuchen in an Old Russian bake oven. Other projects: canning peaches, making pickles, washing clothes on a scrub board and attending an “old-fashioned” country school.
The participants will learn the history of German-Russians.In Russia, Catherine the Great issued a manifesto in 1763, inviting foreigners to settle in her country. She being of German lineage knew the Germans were wonderful farmers. Her decree marked the beginning of the history of Russian-Germans.
“We, Catherine the second, Empress and Autocrat of all the Russians at Moscow, Kiev, Vladimir… We permit all foreigners to come into Our Empire, in order to settle in all the governments, just as each one may desire.”
Many Germans migrated to the beautiful black soil in South Russia, enjoying religious freedoms, tax, and military exemptions. They were allowed their own schools, churches, land, and money. That changed when Russian Czars took leadership in the early 1870’s. They reversed Catherine’s manifesto, repressing the German-Russians. They were drafted into the military for seven years. Many didn’t return.
The German-Russians turned their attention to America and sent scouts.
The United States 1862 Homestead Act provided that any adult citizen, or intended citizen, who had never borne arms against the U.S. Government could claim 160 acres of surveyed government land.
George Fredrick Winkler, Great, Great Grandfather of Vi Ranney, was among the first group of immigrants. Also included were George’s son and daughter-in-law, Jacob and Katherina. They traveled by ship from Hamburg to New York City, then by train to Yankton.
Under the Homestead Act, they settled northwest of Yankton. At which time George W. Black was Sheriff, Lewis and Clark had not yet explored the area, and Yankton was the first capital of the Dakota Territory.
Other German-Russians migrated to Menno, Trip, Parkston, Scotland, and Kaylor. Gary Jerke is President of the Sodak Stamm Germans from Russia, Randy Schoenfish, Treasurer, Rev James Mueller, Secretary, Vi Ranney, Travel Coordinator, Donna Zeeb, Rev Dan Flyer, Mike and Deb Mehrer fill in the remaining board positions.
The event will take place on the ground of the Power Show on the north edge of Menno. A limit of 50 kids will be accepted. (Registration is required.) There is no cost, but donations are appreciated and help defray costs. To register, call Donna Zeeb at 387-5577. Also, if parents would like to help, please contact Donna.

Lyrics to PaperBack Writer by The Beatles
Paperback writer, paperback writer.
Dear Sir or Madam, will you read my book?
It took me years to write, will you take a look?
It's based on a novel by a man named Lear,
And I need a job,
So I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer. It's a dirty story of a dirty man,
And his clinging wife doesn't understand.
His son is working for the Daily Mail
It's a steady job,
But he wants to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.
Paperback writer, paperback writer. It's a thousand pages, give or take a few.
I'll be writing more in a week or two.
I could make it longer if you like the style.
I can change it 'round,
And I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer. If you really like it you can have the rights.
It could make a million for you overnight.
If you must return it you can send it here,
But I need a break,
And I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.Paperback writer, paperback writer.
Paperback writer, paperback writer.
Paperback writer, paperback writer.
Paperback writer, paperback writer.
Paperback writer...

Chasing Sunsets by Eva Marie Everson

As I read this book, one thought kept coming back to me. What happened to us as children, affects our adult life, if hidden and left undealt with.
Traveling down the road of memories, Kimberly makes discoveries, some great, some not so good. Parts of this book felt like bitter medicine, but then the difficult things in life do. Each person has a choice, stay where it’s familiar or move toward the answer.
Anyone that has been through a tragic situation would do well reading this book. God plows through the mire and brings his children to the other side—if we hold his hand.

Manuvering through Finances
We were 30,000$ dollars in debt. We needed out—fast.
That began a journey of discovery. For the next few minutes, I'd like to relate to you my findings.
Starting with credit cards. Not only did we need to pay them off, but we also needed a new mentality. One, I'm proud to have obtained.
Point 1 Pay off your credit cards monthly.
It may sound like a simple thing, but unless you have this cemented into your thinking, you'll never rise to financial freedom.
To get our cards paid off, we tackled one at a time. With laser determination, we conquered the highest interest card. Once zeroed, we directed all the money to the next one. It snowballed until we had every card paid off.
Today it feels good to get a monthly reward check.
We didn't stop there.
Point 2 Make payments to your savings account.
With the credit cards paid off, we had extra money each week. Immediately that extra money was designated. Emergency fund. Car savings and regular savings.
Lowered stress happens when you plan for emergencies. Having extra cash when something breaks down keeps a family in smooth waters. You may be asking, "We have a hard time paying our bills, how can we save extra?" Let me answer that, by saying this: "Start with a small amount and be consistent." If it's 10 dollars a week, keep putting that amount in your savings. Over a year's time, it'll be over 500 dollars. Put more in - well you can do the math.
We've saved thousands of dollars over the years by paying for our vehicles with cash. How? We make monthly car payments—to our savings account, then use that money to buy a car.
Point 3 Pay Extra on your Mortgage.
You'd be surprised at how a few extra dollars to your mortgage interest adds up. It does.
I’ve calculated my mortgage considering my retirement. When I hit that age, both our houses will be paid off.
The last thing I want to talk about is giving. I know it’s a non-stopper in conversations. That’s why I put it last, even though it should be first.
We’re wired to be selfish and self-centered. Nothing flows when we live in that nature. Giving creates a flow, allowing God to bless. I’m not speaking give a dollar and get two back. Blessings come in all different forms.
Give, and it will be given unto you, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Luke 6:38 (NIV)
