Book Lover’s Tag

     GREETINGS STRANGERS!

It’s time for another tag!   Please tell me that one of you is thrilled by this.

‘waits’

‘coughs’

‘quickly starts talking again’

I was graciously tagged by Rebekah A. Morris of Read Another Page – and there were all kinds of delightful questions for me to answer.  So are you ready?  Let’s get started!

1. Name a book you’re embarrassed to say you haven’t read yet.
Wow, there’s quite a few.  There is no quick or simple answer to this question.  Hmm.  Let me pick one off the top of my bean.  Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.
2. What is the strangest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?
A library card.  It was missing for days and I couldn’t find it.  Whoops!  ‘hugs library card’  My BABY, I’ll never do that to you again, I promise!

Now, I’ll have to answer the rest of these tags after I go look for my library card . . .
3. Look at your bookshelf. What’s the first book you see with a yellow spine?
I’ll just pick the first five.

Henry Reeds Babysitting Service:  by Keith Robertson.

Rat Patrol: Desert Danger:  by David King.   (by the way – the book is so-so but the TV show is great!  Just so you know.

The Princess Test by Gail:  by Carson Levine.

Those High Green Hills:  by Jan Karon

Paddington Helps Out:  by Michael Bond.

4. If you could have one new book from a deceased author, who would it be?
     Oh . . . BOY!

Picture

I would want another Narnia book from C.S. Lewis.  EASIEST.  QUESTION.  EVAH!
5. Name an author who deserves more readership.
Constance Savery.  SECOND.  EASIEST.  QUESTION.  EVAH!  Constance Savery was a remarkable English writer, who wrote true Christian classics, full of amazing characters, believable dialogue and plots that hit you right in the heart.  Her books are truly so of the most beautiful books I have ever read and could ever hope to read.
6. Bookmark or random piece of paper?
Random piece of paper – I rarely mark my books with anything – I usually just remember my place, but when I do mark a book – it is completely random.   A piece of paper, a library card, a flyer, the tail of my stuffed monkey . . . anything will do.
7. Can you stop anywhere in a book or do you have to finish the chapter?
It depends on the book. 90 % of the time, I can stop anywhere.  But there are a few rare books that make me want to read ‘just one more chapter’.  Translated that means is that I’m not budging from my chair until I finish!  Eating and sleeping become optional – but fortunately for me, (I suppose) – that rarely happens.
8. One book at a time or several?
I usually read five to ten books a time.   No big deal!

Picture

9. Do you read ahead or skip pages?
‘smirks’  I skip.   I skip big time.  I skip VERY big time!  ‘examines nails casually’  Unlike many of you, I am not bound to the spoiler monster.  This widespread fear of spoilers cannot TOUCH me!

Picture

‘pushes spoiler purists away’
I LOVE spoilers.   I just like them, and I’m kind of contrary, and I think the fact that so many people DON’T like them makes me like them even more.

Picture 'pushes spoiler purists away'
I LOVE spoilers.   I just like them, and I'm kind of contrary, and I think the fact that so many people DON'T like them makes me like them even more.  :)
And I'll come completely clean.  Also, I’m a very emotional person and I can be deeply effected – for good or bad – by what I read.  A long time ago, I picked up a book by an author I loved and skimmed through it, only to look at the last page and see that the main character committed suicide – that was the last sentence of the book.  That shock left such a lasting impression on me, I’ve skipped ever since.  I read the first few chapters of a book to see if I want to continue, than skim a head – and if it’s poor – I just skip to the end to see how it finished.
Every once and awhile, I’ll pick up a book that is so amazingly good that I won’t skip – a book that is so well written I’ll invest in it enough to let it surprise me.  But it has to be a pretty good book to do that!  if you want to know what some of those books are, ask me in the comments!
10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
I don’t like breaking spines – that would be like breaking my friends back!  Okay, not that bad – but I try not to do that.  Of course, I own a lot of old second hand books and they come to me with broken backs.  ‘pats books lovingly’  There, there, sweet babies - it will be all right.
11. What books do you regret reading?
Oh dear – there’s quite a few but one that comes instantly to mind is Pride and Prejudice.  It took me two months to read through that thing and it was not only physically painful, it was a complete waste of time.
Picture Picture     I have NEVER read anything quite so . . . hmm . . . I'd better not say anything else.
Okay, please don’t hate me, P&P fans!  Even more importantly, please don't stone me!  Getting hit with rocks (even virtual ones) is definitely one of my least favorite things.  I dislike it even more than I disliked Pride and - oops!  Never mind.
     Um . . . we'll all still part as friends - right?
12. On average, how many books do you read per year?
I only recently started counting . . . maybe 60 to a 100 per year?  I really don't know.  I started counting this year, so ask me this question again three years from now!  Hopefully, I'll still be here.  If the Pride and Prejudice fans have gotten to me first. 13. What book can you read hundreds of times and never get tired of?
THAT IS THE MOST IMPOSSIBLE QUESTION!  I’ll just name the first one of MANY that comes to mind – the Penderwicks on Gardham Street.  I love that book.
14. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from a book?
Hmm…that God is my loving father.  Until I read Michael Phillips, A God To Call Father, there were so many things about my relationship with God that weren’t sinking down into my heart.  I knew them in my head, but not in my heart.  That book broke past a barrier in my mind and reached my heart.  God loves me with a wild, unreserved, undignified, unrestrained love – He’s crazy about me.  That is a truly humbling and staggering thought.  It’s overwhelming.
15. What is the most recent book you’ve read?
The last book I read was 'Make Way For Ducklings' by Robert McCloskey.  And YES - a picture book IS a REAL book.
16. What quote from any book will you never forget? Why is it significant?
Again, I’ll just pick the first one that comes to mind.  “I call all times soon.” Aslan – The Chronicles of Narnia.   Why is it significant?  Hmm . . . well, everything Aslan says reminds me of God and that's significant.   Plus, my family and I quote that line, teasingly, to one another when we're asking each other when something will happen.
17. How many books do you own?
I only have an estimate - over 500 . . . how much, I'm not sure - sorry!  And about 40 ebooks.  I know – IT’S NOT ENOUGH!  I need more books.  Give me more books.  Gimme, gimme, gimme…
18. In the past year, what is the greatest book you’ve read?
I’m afraid I can’t remember what books I read in 2016.  I can tell you what the greatest book is that I’ve read so far in 2017!  But even that isn’t easy - THAT IS NOT EASY AT ALL.  But one of the hands-down, best stories I have read of 2017 is actually a novella, "Out of the Tomb" by Ashley Stangl, one of the five stories contained in Five Magic Spindles.  'Out of the Tomb" was mind-boggling good, I was actually speechless when I finished it - or at least unintelligible - it was so beautiful, original and . . . 'shivers' . . . WOW.  It was a good story.
We have no reached the end of the questions.  'static'
Now - ONTO THE TACKLING!  I do love tackling people! Picture Oops - excuse me - I meant TAGGING!  That's right, tagging.

Liebster Award Nominee!

I have been nominated for the Liebster Award by Ruffles and Grace!  Thanks, Victoria!!  Victoria has a fabulous blog about fashion, sewing, reading, writing, and glimpses into her lovely life – it is a true delight.

Picture

The Liebster Award is an award passed around from blogger to blogger as a way to discover new blogs.  The word Liebster is German, meaning sweet, kind, nice, dear, lovely, pleasant, valued, and endearing.
And the rules for this award are . . .

1. Thank your nominator and provide a link to their blog site. (and don’t forget to tell me
when you post your answers so that I can read them, you happy minions!  ‘gleeful grin’)
2. Answer the questions presented by the nominator.

3. Nominate several other bloggers and write them some new questions.

4. List the rules and display the Liebster Award logo on your post.
And now, without further ado . . .

VICTORIA’S QUESTIONS

1)  What is one thing you are most known for?

Entertaining – with my bubbly personality, my jokes, my ready laughter, my sense of humor – yeah.  I think what I”m most well know for is entertaining people.

2) What is your favorite music to listen to?

Oldies, Oldies, Oldies – all the way.   Oh – and Disney!  I don’t care how old I get – I will never be too old for Disney music.  Their music is classic.  it is golden!

Picture

Picture

The ESSENTIAL Elvis – they said it not me.

Picture

And YES!  I do sing ‘I’ve Got a Dream’ and do all the voices (to the best of my ability) – doesn’t everybody?

3) What is the most important thing you have accomplished in your life thus far?  I would have to say, publishing The Reluctant Godfather – publishing is a dream that I’ve been cherishing for a long time – I’m so happy and grateful that God enabled me to put feet to those dreams and make them a reality.

4)  Are you a country girl?  Or a city girl?

I would like to be a county girl – part of me really does crave ‘a country life’ – but sadly, I am an urbanized creature of habit and convenience.  I don’t suppose there’s a third answer for ‘somewhere in the middle’?

5)  What is an animal you would love to own as a pet?

I won’t say dogs, because that’s so ordinary.  So, if I weren’t going to say 5 or 7 dogs (which I would like, by the way) – I would LOVE to have Qizai as a pet – he is the only known brown panda in the world and ISN’T he TOO cute for words?

Picture

Apparently, Qizai was abandoned as cub and bullied a lot.  Perhaps because of the mutation that caused his unusual coloring Qizai is not as ‘fast’ as the other pandas . . . so I think he needs TONS of extra hugs and affection, don’t you?  Ahhhhh!!!  I just want this big guy – bad!  My sister even has some bamboo she’s growing in a pot . . . I wonder if she would notice if it went missing?  Probably.   She’d probably notice if Qizai the Panda was sleeping under her bed, too.

6)  Are you most like your mom?  Or your dad?

I am an unusual and unique blend of my parents – but I’m also my own person – so that’s a hard question to answer.  Hmm . . . I suppose, I am a smidgen more like my Dad.

7)  If you had to choose between living in the past or the future for a week, which would you choose and why?

The FUTURE!  Why?  Easy.  Because – SPOILERS!!!

Picture

And if you know me at all – you would know that I looooove spoilers.

All right, all right.  I suppose I would choose the future because I am curious, and because I have this crazy idea that like Scrooge in a Christmas Carol, a glimpse of the future might help me to amend my present hour accordingly – but thank God, that isn’t a possibility.  He holds my future and my past – and I just have to trust Him for both of them.
And now, ON TO TAGGING!

I tag . . . or nominate.
Mary at Sunshine and Scribblings.

Maggie at ‘My Attic Corner

Blessing Counter at ‘Counting Your Blessings One By One

Jonathan Trout at ‘Fishing For Idea’s’.

Lydia at Noveltea.
And I would nominate Victoria at Ruffles and Grace – but she was already nominated and I don’t know if that’s cricket.  Oh well, suffice it to say that her blog is that good – it should be nominated twice.

March In a Nutshell

March.
Just when you think you’re on top of your schedule – something happens to knock you off the ‘to do’ pile.

Picture

Ah well, such is life and all it curious twists and turns; it’s vagaries are like the tentacles of an octopus – invariably pulling me away from my dream schedule.
But I’ll talk more about that later – for now – what DID happen in March –
Not much – seriously, my life is pretty quiet  But here it is, such as it is.
Successfully cut back on my time on Goodreads – a sort of check!  I did cut back (I even went for a WHOLE week without Goodreads – and LOOK, I’m still alive!) but then I slipped back into the over indulging.

Signed up for Camp NaNo.  Am I crazy?

Picture

And I TOLD MYSELF last November that I would NEVER do another Nano unless I was THOROUGHLY AND COMPLETELY PREPARED.

Did I remember that?  Did I prepare?  Did I?

Picture

Of course I prepared!  To not prepare would be stupid.‘crickets’

‘clears throat’

  The Pinterest monster wandered by

and snagged me – Help! – and I added tons of lovely new pins to story boards as well as my other random boards – so if you are on good terms with the Pinterest monster (another words – he’ll let you leave his cave instead of just eating you alive on the spot) then go ahead and check them out!

After setting a goal of reading 64 books in 2017 – I finished it by mid March.

Picture

My grandmother visited us for two weeks and we were super busy during her stay!
My grandmother loves music and I played the piano a lot while she was here – more regularly than I have in a while – it was good to get so much practice in!

Picture

Just KIDDING!  I did not play rock n’ roll.  My grandmother loves beautiful old vintage songs and show tunes, and I do too.

Create a more professional looking newsletter - check.   This was at the top of my list of 'Hurry Up And Do This Before You Shrivel Up From Shame' - so that's a load off my mind - and a dip into the ol' piggy bank.  It still needs work, but it's a step in the right direction.

Participated in a book blog tour for the first time!
Announced my official website www.allisontebo.com
Reached 15 subscribers on my YouTube channel and 33 subscribers on my blog!
Did my very first vlog!  Well, I did a promo for The Reluctant Godfather - but that doesn't really count - that was a promo - THIS was a vlog.
Went to our libraries bi-annual book sale.  I kid you not, there must be AT LEAST 50,000 books there.  I'm not exaggerating.
Library book sales are my favorite form of exercise - yes it IS a thorough cardio workout - and one of my favorite things to do - although it is also quite stressful.  It REALLY bothers me that other people attend these sales.  it downright disturbs me when I see people walking away with books that I WANTED.
It panics me when I see people run past me, literally put an arm down on the table and sweep books or DVDs into a huge plastic wagon.  It makes me want to do something desperate.
Picture      Discovered two new flavors of ice cream!  Yes - THIS IS BIG NEWS!  Stumbling across this stupendous flavor was like tripping over a gold nugget in an field of flowers - flowers are nice, but gold nuggets are better.

INTRODUCING!!!  'drum roll' . . .

. . .

. . .

. . .

. . .
That's right, I'm mean - keep scrolling!
Keep going . . .
Picture      In honor of St. Patrick's Day - Brusters released several new 'Irish' flavors - including this delectable delight.
It's basically chocolate with Irish cream flavoring.  But we can't talk basic about this flavor - it's NOT basic - it's utterly and stupendously delicious.
The runner up flavor?  Snickerdoodle - there are few things more soothing than cool cinnamon.
The flavors are EXCEPTIONALLY good paired together.  But if you want a super big, blast-your-bean-off KICK - just get a cup or a cone of Irish Cream - this stuff will knock your socks off!
For a few hours, I think my family thought that there was REAL Irish Cream in my ice cream.   It really gave me a buzz, I went kind of nuts.  I certainly talked a lot.  Which isn't unusual - I just talked MORE.  And very excitedly.  And I laughed, A LOT.  Loudly.  And I can't remember if I dropped things or not.
But anyway - now I'M WORRIED.  What if this flavor GOES AWAY?  I don't want it to be a one time thing.  St. Patrick's Day is only once a year - I NEED THIS ICE CREAM ON A MONTHLY BASIS!  PLEASE, BRUSTERS!  Don't take it away!!
Got a new color of nail polish that I really love!  Guys, who follow this blog, forgive me - this is a girly update - just ignore it - but ladies who are reading this blog - can I please get a great big chorus of cheers and 'I know what you mean?'
Picture And now - randomness.
And yes, I know this post (and my blog) is pretty random - but this is MORE random.  You've been warned.
Two Dreams I Had In March.
I was on a film set - and was one of the leading ladies - OBVIOUSLY!  :)
In and of itself, not so bad - except for the increasing agitation I felt when I realized what scene we were filming.  The cast was going to be standing on the deck of an old ship while a killer whale swallowed us whole- not just the people - the whole ship.  I found myself staring into the jaws of a mechanical killer whale that would put Jaws to shame.   It was big enough to swallow a tramp steamer - or whatever we were on.  It was BIG.  And in the middle of my dream, I actually thought:  Oh no, I'm dreaming.  This killer whale is going to turn into a REAL killer whale any second - I just know it - and it's going to bite me and swallow me, AHHHH STOP!!!!
Fortunately, my dream switched to something else before that happened.
And nope, I have NO idea where that dream came from.  I try to avoid watching videos of killer whales, looking at pictures of killer whales, thinking about killer whales, or even SPEAKING the words killer whale, unless I absolutely have to.
Dream Two:  My friend, E.F.B. - for some reason could not keep her beagle, Eli and gave him to me.
This was a bad dream, in the fact that it would be a sad thing for my friend.  But as far as someone giving me a beagle.  BEST DREAM!!!  DON'T WANT TO WAKE UP!!
Picture      I ate part of a match - or a piece of ash.
There's a perfectly reasonable explanation.  As I sat down at our table to eat a piece of cake, I noticed a 'crumb' on the table near my plate.  No point in letting a crumb go to waste, right?  I popped that puppy into my mouth and instantly knew that it was NOT a cake crumb . . .  It.  Was.  Nasty.
Naturally, I instantly said:  "Okay, who put that there?"  I just naturally assumed that one of my family members was trying to mess with me - perfectly natural assumption, right?
They are too busy laughing at me to deny it, but afterwards they confirmed that it was my own silly mistake.  I ate part of a charred match, a chunk of ash.  I wouldn't recommend it.
And now - let the torture begin!!
What I meant to get done in March - but didn't.
I might have to stop doing this section - the shame is almost more than I can bare!  Is this giving you people a laugh?  Please tell me if you guys can laugh with me about this?  Is this keeping me humble?  Probably.  Is this making me INSANE!  YES!

Okay, here we go - AGAIN.
1.  Get up earlier.  Nope.  That partial insomnia thing I mentioned?  Yeah . . . it's moved in for a very long visit.
Picture 2.  Get back to my artwork.  I did a LITTLE bit more art in March than I did in February - a SMIDGEN more.   A couple of days.
3.  Published 'Key To The Chains'.  Nope - failed a second time.  My sincere apologies to everyone that heard that i was going to publish in March.
4.  Write 40,000 words in March.  What a joke.  I am currently experiencing writers block of the most epic proportions . . . it's really awful.
     Write 40,000 words . . . yeah right.
Picture 5.  Record and post two new songs on YouTube.  I recorded two, but I haven't edited them yet.  Or done the photo shoots.
6.  Start exercising.
Picture 7.  Join Homeschooled Authors.com.  The interview questions are sitting in my inbox as we speak - currently unfilled.
8.  Plant morning glories.  The final blow.  I didn't get something so simple as sticking seeds in dirt accomplished.  I do buy the seeds.  Does that count?
'crawls out from under desk'  Is it all over?  Let's just say it is.  'collapses into desk chair and makes yet another list'
Hopes and Goals For April
Nail Camp Nano.  This is NOT camp people - this is war - war with myself - this is a struggle of epic proportions.  If I DON'T win Camp Nano - we're are looking at a total apocalypse for this sad little 'writer'.
However, thanks to my friends and my local guru (my twin), I have realized that it's time to cut myself some slack.  I'm not going to be able to accomplish the massive writing goals I had hoped to accomplish on my current writing projects.  April will have to be devoted to breaking my massive writers block, by whatever means possible.  April will be a time for exploration; let's just hope I find the treasure.
Picture Let's see . . . what else?
FINALLY JOIN HOMESCHOOLED AUTHORS.COM
Finish editing The Reluctant Godfather. Open that Zazzle Store!
Draw and paint regularly.
Fulfill various promises I have made to various friends.
Release at least two songs on my YouTube channel.
Start exercising!
So how did March treat you?  I'd love to hear about it in the comments!

Celery, Peanut Butter, and Questions.

The time has come my children – the day you have been waiting for.

You know, you wonderful subscribers really can be kind of NOT-NICE to wish to see me suffer in this way!

But actually – no nasty snack can compare to the technical problems I had with this post.

This was a five minute video – all I wanted to do was edit it together into one seamless video and cut out any ridiculously loud chomping.

But nope.  After struggling with a 5 minute video for an estimated 16 hours – and staying up as late as 2:30 at night to try to fix the problems – I resolved myself to the individual, unedited and hopefully-not-too-lame clips below.

*cringes*  Not only do I film myself eating – I REALLY DISLIKE having people watch me while I eat – I can’t even put together a slick little vlog like every other blogger on the planet.

This is too embarrassing.  You watch it – I just can’t watch it again.

Picture

To those of you web travelers who might be new to this blog – I agreed, publicly, that if I reached 20 subscribers – I would eat celery and peanut butter, and film myself doing it.

Yucky.

Well – obviously – I reached 20 subscribers.

I broke out the celery and peanut butter.

And I filmed the video.

So prepare to do  something; laugh, squirm, yawn – something .

Okay – Roll video.

Since filming this 'video',

I got another 8 subscribers to my blog!!!!!
Actual reaction
Picture Picture     I am utterly gobsmacked.  I have no idea where those 8 subscribers came from - they just popped in - bang, bang, bang - and I didn't even realize it until I logged into Weebly and there was a nice, plump batch of them, sitting on my newsletter form - waiting to say hello.  I have 29 subscribers!!
After celebrating appropriately - guess my two immediate thoughts?
    1.  All of THIS because of CELERY AND PEANUT BUTTER?
    2.  Now I MUST create a better newsletter.

That being said - I am SO EXCITED to have reached 29 subscribers.  Thank you SO MUCH, ALL OF YOU!  Thank you so much for following my Well!

Now that you're all here - I'll probably have to do something fabulous and/or weird when I reach 40 subscribers.  Any ideas?

Yup, I'm probably the only blogger that lures in subscribers by promising to perform idiotic or crazy feats.  I'm starting to feel like the 'You Asked For It' show.  You want to see it - I'll do it.

I'm like the Evil Knievel of bloggers!
Picture      Probably Only I - The Great Allison - would turn my blog into a daredevil site.  That's right - EATING CELERY AND PEANUT BUTTER IS A DARE DEVIL STUNT!
Note from the Sponsor:  The gif above was used as a humorous elaboration on the previous sentence - I will not actually preform that stunt at any time, for any incentive.
We will now return to our feature presentation.
Introducing the Q & A Post! Introducing the - !  Well, you get the idea.

So ask me a question - any question!  There must be something.  No?  Nothing?  Not even one measly question?

You disappoint me.  Okay, here's a few warm ups to get you started.

Ask me anything - really.
1.  Favorite food, color, book, movie, restaurant, game, sport, song? - and so on and so on.
2.  Would you ever swim with whales?
3.  Did you ever have an imaginary friend?
4.  What is the strangest thing you have ever collected?
5.  What is your current desktop picture?
6.  If I could create a half hour TV Show - what would it be called and what would be the premise?
7.  If you could have a superhuman ability - what would it be?

Now, aren't those interesting questions?  Aren't you DYING to know my answers to these - and more?  Why miss this golden opportunity?

No limit on the amount of questions - and I sure hope I get more than 10 - because, it would be really embarrassing now if nobody comments after this . . .

Now there may be a FEW I don't answer . . . it depends on what they are, in which case you have the right to throw virtual tomatoes at me.

So you see?  Added mystery.  Don't you want to see which questions I WILL answer and which one's I WON'T?

So, would you prefer to have me answer your questions in a vlog, or a blog post?

Friendly reminder:  If I do a vlog, you won't get any GIFs . . .
Picture Picture Yes, I thought that might horrify some of you.

Wait - NEWS FLASH:  Yeah, the jury is in - SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY AND IRREPARABLY WRONG WITH MY VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE.  So unless I can do a PERFECT video (no toilet flushes, no un-maidenly appliance of a paper napkin, no stammering - and most importantly NO MORE 16 HOURS SLAVING OVER A THREE MINUTE VIDEO - if I can't accomplish that - I probably won't do a vlog.

Besides - I just love my GIFs too much!
So c'mon - it's time to get some answers!
Ask me some questions.
I dare you!  :)
