Easy Meat

It’s right there
On the table
Behind you

So succulent
And so well done

Could just turn around
And take it off
Its silver platter

It looks so good
And you’re so hungry

Temptation hasn’t felt
A burn like this before
For you to yearn this bad

It would hurt
To reach for it

But you feel like you’re
Already dying in a desert

You could do it, take
The lure and get ensnared
Enjoy
And move on with it

No longer hungry
Maybe

Or still you could hunger
Or thirst for even rarer
Or ever-present meats

Meat
I...

JAKE Theory

Papers on ISIS have been written before, and the terrorist group makes for an intriguing topic. There’s much at stake, so much to stand for, and so much caused by this faction’s presence. In this one however, going in with a much better understanding on the warring powers and their ideologies, this won’t be a high school senior in 2014’s markup of why this particular conflict is interesting. There is...

Maori Instinct

Like Adam and Eve
With leaves covering
Our naked bodies

We arrived by canoe
At the edge of a
Great island
With exotic
Flora and fauna

Using the beautiful
Brush and dipping
Our hands into
The calm Pacific

We learned
And we grew

Shark toothed tools
Fiber baskets
Bamboo fishing poles
And fire

We lived in the
Caves and came out
In the day

Followed the jungles
And scaled mountains

Still we grew

And then one day
We wished upon
The island’s bounty

To teach us a
Way
To fly high as the sky

So we lear...

Get A Fix

I don’t have a backbone
Feels like it’s broken
Because everything hurts

Infrastructure
Damaged beyond repair
Potholes of despair
Popping tires

The only aid I seek
Tonight is to fix
My back
And wander the bleak

One two three four
Keep your feet
On the floor

Five six seven eight
Keep dancing and
Don’t float away

Gone am I on this
Endless sea
So shall we see
Night lights
Of the city

You could notice
My pupils pulse
As I’m injected
With the energy

The vibe
Haze
Energy
Whatever you call it

I’m gla...

Notebooks and Procrastination – Journal 3/14/17

I hit a fantastic milestone today, and one I haven’t been able to celebrate before! I finished a notebook! Entirely finished an entire 5 subject notebook! Holy christ, this is insane for me. In March of 2016 I found this thing blank with water stains all over it, and a year later, it is done.

So many good ideas came out of there. It’s been so much fun having something tangible to get things down on! I highly recommend you get yourself a trusty notebook. There are some advantages and disadvant...

Entombed

Heaping on
Piles of data dirt
Lights are flickering
With the pressure

Glitches and viruses
Infecting it
Lying forgotten
In its case

So many things
Its lens has seen
So many words
Its touch screen sent

All the documents and data
Buried deep

Try to forget
Where its unmarked hollow is

But I mourn the loss
Of what was present
Its lights now dim
With the strain

And the battery drained
To charge never again
To never connect to
A network ever again

Forbidden files
Collecting dust
Like a vast library...

The Other Night – Journal 3/13/17

So the other night I went to a reading event at my college. Normally this wouldn’t be a big deal, except for the fact that I never do these things.

I’ve always had a problem with being up on stage, for some reason. I will write my ass off and come prepared with something I read, but I find that makes me more nervous. In high school, we often had to bring Powerpoint presentations to classes and present things. Every time I had a script and plot as to what I was presenting, I got anxiety.

This...

Life

Energy drinks are “bad for you”
Even if they’re delicious

But what can be really bad is
Fake news and alternative facts

And people upset over who they voted for
Safe spaces without triggers

It’s hard to keep track of these days
All the stuff that’s bad for you

1984 is popular again
The book and nostalgia

The Bachelor is brainless
Big Bang Theory isn’t very funny

Buzzfeed
Fucking Buzzfeed, man

The_Donald and
EnoughTrumpSpam

Echo chambers

Russia and China the
Superpowers

ISIS and Syria

Unoops

Silky sweet, like a
Flower who’s sugary warm

Petals lapped up
The dew that misted

In a field

Bright pink and tall among
Leafy grass in the sun

Bathing in glory and shining
