Horse Airborne

Taken by Eadweard Muybridge in 1887

Thus he proved that when horses run there is an instant when all 4 hooves are in the air.

There is a grimmer side to the photographer. Discovering that his baby was in fact the son of another man, he shot his wife's lover. The jury acquitted him on grounds of temporary insanity.

For a fascinating look at Muybridge's photographs (currently exhibited at San Francisco's Moma), this times and life, see the link here.

The Bird Man of Baghdad

via scientificamerican.com

He watches birds, he studies birds, he saves them in Iraq–yes, there, "in the midst of war and chaos, continues to add to the store of knowledge." Read the article. I found it inspiring.

Talking to a Publisher and Finding a Kindred Spirit

Yesterday I had a meeting, but it wasn't like any meeting I've had for years. I had a conversation with someone who talked about meaning and purpose, the strengths that spoke to those, the weaknesses that detracted, which could be turned to strength. The conversation was imbued with insight and intelligence. It was a heart to heart talk. It was heartening.
