April Thrill of the Month: "The Face of His Brother" by Mark St. J. Couhig

Picture Hi there, Tradecraft fans! April's Thrill of the Month is The Face of His Brother by Mark St. J. Couhig . This exciting read explores the extraordinary lengths one family will go to in their quest for vengeance — and how quickly the domino effect of ill-fated decisions can spiral completely out of control.

Tradecraft fans can buy the book at an exclusive 20 percent discount through May 31, 2018. Use the code "Thrill" take advantage of this limited-time deal. (Note that the discount is only available for purchases of the book made on www.conundrumbooks.com.)

If you want a taste of what's in store, go ahead and download this chapter sampler for a quick preview of what you can look forward to when you purchase the full read.

Here's a brief description of the book:

It is late in the afternoon of Friday, August 27, 1967. In Albuquerque, New Mexico, 22-year-old Ricardo Garcia has just made a terrible mistake.

Garcia was warned of the consequences that awaited, but in a moment of anger he purchased with his pistol the eternal enmity of the Brandon family of Clinton, Louisiana. Though his home is more than one thousand miles removed from Clinton, the distance will provide Garcia with no comfort and no safety.

To the Brandons of East Feliciana Parish, family is everything. Three generations soon find themselves in hot pursuit of Garcia. Only one man, a disgraced Clinton cop, stands in the way of their plans.

The Face of his Brother is more than a simple story of revenge. The hunt for Garcia brings to the surface the violence, betrayals and tragedies that have torn the Brandon family apart.  At its heart, this is the story of an old Louisiana family and of the secrets and scandals that roil beneath the surface.

And here's what readers are saying:

"From the first page through to the last, I was hooked on this book."
— Robert S., Amazon Reviewer

"It's rare to find a book which combines intense action with great humor. Hope to see many more from the author."
— Gary P., Amazon Reviewer

"When I finished The Face of His Brother, I immediately turned back to the beginning and started to read it again. [...] Don't even think about picking up this wonderful book unless you are willing to enter into a personal relationship with it, one that will take you to unexpected places, at times uncomfortable, yet always drawing you in to discover more about justice, and family, than you could have imagined."
— Lucie, Amazon Reviewer

We hope you enjoy the read, and that it helps tide you over as you wait for Evil Winds: Tradecraft Phase Two to come out May 21!

And, if you haven't yet, be sure to order your copies of the first two titles in the Tradecraft series, Vector and Shifting Sands — after all, you'll want to be all caught up for the third title's release.

Picture Picture We are thrilled to announce that Shifting Sands: Tradecraft Phase One has taken home the 2018 Independent Publisher Book Awards bronze medal for military/wartime fiction!

Competition was fierce. Entrants for the overall contest came from 41 states across the U.S., the District of Columbia, Guam, six Canadian provinces, and 12 countries overseas.

We would like to congratulate the other winners of the competition — especially Margot Abbott who won gold in our category for The Last Innocent Hour , and J. Michael Dolan who won silver in our category for The Trumpets of Jericho .

We also want to thank Independent Publisher for hosting the competition, and for recognizing Michael Shusko's Shifting Sands as an exciting read worth getting the word out about.

Per their website: The "IPPY" Awards, launched in 1996, are designed to bring increased recognition to the deserving but often unsung titles published by independent authors and publishers. Established as the first awards program open exclusively to independents, 5,000 "IPPYs" have been awarded to authors and publishers around the world.

Michael Shusko and the Tradecraft marketing team are very excited to have had the opportunity to submit the second title in the series to the IPPY Awards — and are quite proud that the book did so well against such an impressive list of contenders.

February Thrill of the Month: "The Last Good Man" by Linda Nagata

Picture Hi there Tradecraft fans! We're still hard at work producing the third title in Michael Shusko's series, Evil Winds, and plan to announce its pub date very, very soon. Sign up for our email list to receive that exciting bit of news the second it's ready.

In the meantime, February's thrill of the month is The Last Good Man by Linda Nagata.

Here's a brief description of her highly engaging military thriller:

Scarred by war, in pursuit of truth: Army veteran True Brighton left the service when the development of robotic helicopters made her training as a pilot obsolete. Now she works at Requisite Operations, a private military company established by friend and former Special Ops soldier Lincoln Han. ReqOp has embraced the new technologies. Robotics, big data, and artificial intelligence are all tools used to augment the skills of veteran warfighters-for-hire. But the tragedy of war is still measured in human casualties, and when True makes a chance discovery during a rescue mission, old wounds are ripped open. She's left questioning what she knows of the past, and resolves to pursue the truth, whatever the cost.

The Last Good Man is a powerful, complex, and very human tale.

And here's what reviewers are saying about the book:

"...a thrilling novel that lays bare the imminent future of warfare."
Publishers Weekly starred review

"...a fantastic, lightning-fast thriller that hits all the right notes: an engaging story set in an all-too-plausible future, advanced technology, plenty of action, and fantastic, well-rounded characters."
The Verge

"A new novel by Linda Nagata is always an event. The Last Good Man pulls us into next month's headlines with a conviction and energy that makes for an extraordinary tale."
—Hugo and Nebula award-winner Greg Bear

"The Last Good Man is a compelling and subversive novel, told by unique characters, especially True Brighton: sympathetic, prickly, determined, all too human. Linda Nagata has impressive insights into technological advances and their potential effects.... It was a privilege to read TLGM before its publication."
—Hugo and Nebula award-winner Vonda N. McIntyre

Grab your copy of the ebook on Amazon today for just $7.99.

And be sure to have a thrilling month! Happy reading!

January Thrill of the Month: "THE HAN AGENT" by Amy Rogers

Picture Hi there, Tradecraft fans! Mike and the Tradecraft team are hard at work producing the third title in the series, Evil Winds. We'll reveal some exciting news about that book in the weeks to come. In the meantime, we're rolling out a monthly initiative that we hope will help you get your hands on some more great reads!

Each month in 2018, we'll recommend a Thrill of the Month — a book in the thriller genre that we feel you'll enjoy as much as you have the Tradecraft series. And, when possible, we'll score Tradecraft fans an exclusive discount on the title!

In January, we're kicking off our Thrill of the Month recommendation series with a very thrilling title: THE HAN AGENT by Amy Rogers.

Here's a brief description of this exciting medical thriller:

Modern biotechnology propels an ancient ethnic rivalry to a terrifying new level…

In the 1930s, Japanese scientists in China committed heinous crimes in their quest for the ultimate biological weapon.

The war ended. Their mission did not.

Eighty years later, Japanese-American scientist Amika Nakamura won’t let rules stand between her and scientific glory. When the ambitious young virologist defies a ban on the genetic manipulation of influenza, she’s expelled from the university. Desperate to save her career, she accepts a position with a pharmaceutical company in Tokyo. Soon after, a visit to a disputed island entangles her in a high-profile geopolitical struggle between Japan and China. Applying her singular expertise with bird flu virus in a risky experiment may be the only way out. Little does she know that Japanese ultra-nationalists and a legacy of unpunished war crimes lurk in the shadows, manipulating people, politics, and science.

But DNA doesn’t lie. Amika uncovers a shocking truth: a deadly virus is about to put the “gene” in genocide.

Watch the book trailer on YouTube for a closer look at the adventure that lies ahead.

And here's what readers are saying about the book:

“Amy Rogers’s latest medical thriller is as exciting as it is frighteningly realistic. It could be tomorrow’s headline. Here is a story fraught with tension, and threaded through with scientific accuracy and speculation that will leave you stunned.” —James Rollins, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Sigma Force series

“In a stunning ‘what-if’ author-scientist Amy Rogers resurrects the idea of Unit 731, Japan’s notorious wartime biological weapons division, weaving together a diabolical tale of science, genocide, and modern-day bio-terror. Sobering, suspenseful, and absolutely chilling.” —Barry Lancet, award-winning author of The Spy Across the Table, Japantown, and Tokyo Kill

“THE HAN AGENT is a surefire genre hit, fast-paced and full of elements of mystery and adventure.” --Foreword Reviews magazine
