Gerald Becomes A Wizard - Free short story - released

Life as a Royal Equine Poop Coordinator isn't the life for Gerald. His family business revolves around the rear end of horses and, as far as he is concerned, that is something he is not destined for. The life of a great wizard is on the horizon and Gerald is sure that when he reaches four feet eight his wizarding gene will kick in, and he will become what he has always dreamed of. Of course the fact that no-one in his family tree, as far as anyone can remember, has ever been a wizard could put a kink in Gerald's plans, but we'll see what happens.

This is a short story which takes a little peek at the year before Gerald's dream comes true. The journey and actual achievement of his dream was not a smooth ride.

This short story is a peek at Gerald's life before the novel 'Gerald and the amulet of Zonrach', the first in a series of Gerald novels.

It is now available free in mobi, epub and pdf formats from http://www.carlhackman.com/books.php

Enjoy :)

What's Happening

Hi everyone,

At the moment things are hotting up and I'm working hard. I'm just starting the last chapter of the sequel to GERALD AND THE AMULET OF ZONRACH, then it is down to the hard work of polishing it so that it is ready for my Nov 1st deadline.

I'm also working on a short story which is a bit of Gerald's back story prior to his assignment to Molehaven as village idi... wizard! This short story will be free and available to anyone who wants to know that little bit more about our fumbling hero.

I have also managed to add my profile on "Skype an author" to allow virtual classroom, library and writing group visits. If you want to book an author visit please hop on there and drop me a line. :)

Don't forget to visit my fb author page and drop me a line as I love hearing from my readers.

Best regards, Carl

Cover Reveal – Hair In All The Wrong Places 2 by Andrew Buckley

Last year, HAIR IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES by Andrew Buckley introduced us to teenage werewolf, Colin Strauss, and the creepy and strange town of Elkwood. The book was released by Month9Books and was also picked up by Scholastic Book Clubs in North America. Now it’s time for things to get hairier . . .

Here is my review of the first in the series of Hair In All The Wrong Places:

Andrew Buckley is one of those authors who, when you’ve read one of their books, you know you will read everything they write. Hair In All The Wrong Places met and even exceeded my expectations. I read the novel in two sessions and only put it down the first time as I had a school visit.

Colin, a lanky weed of a kid whose reflection in the mirror agrees that he is a total loser, is sent to his grandmother’s house because his parents couldn’t be bothered to look after him. For most kids this would be a devastating occurrence, but for Colin it turns out to be the best thing that could ever have happened to him. Admittedly he is almost immediately bullied at his new school, nothing new there, but then he gets bitten by a werewolf when trying to run back to his parents; no idea why after the way they treated him, but there you go.

This turns out to be a positive event in his life and his new found strength and muscle growth are quite appealing to him. The increase in his sense of smell is also a boon, sometimes, as there are some things he can smell that I’m sure he would rather not.

The tale that follows is a fun read and will keep you pretty much enthralled throughout the entire novel and I have no hesitation in giving it five stars. I could have said more in the review, but any more would probably involve spoilers or me wittering on until I’d practically written out the entire novel

Author – Daniel Swenson

One of the great things about being a published author is the ability to promote fellow stable mates from your publisher. Today I’m showcasing Daniel Swenson who’s debut novel ‘The Shadow Above The Flames’ was released on June 6th 2017. So, without further ado here are Daniel’s details.

Daniel Swenson lives with his wife and children in Utah, nestled between the foothills of the mountains and the shore of Utah Lake. He and his family enjoy hiking, riding bikes, playing outdoors and game nights where they play different board and card games.

Daniel has been a fan of science fiction and fantasy since he first sat down and watched Star Wars, Voltron, Masters of the Universe and the Transformers. Since witnessing the spectacle of Star Wars, Daniel has been an avid movie goer. He found his love of reading at a young age when he journeyed in the lands of Krynn and Toril alongside the creations of R.A. Salvatore, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

He is the creator and host of the Hugo-nominated podcast Dungeon Crawlers Radio, a successful podcast that covers all things geek including interviews with upcoming and best selling authors. Because of the show, Daniel has been able to build relationships among the writing and publishing community that has helped to cultivate his talents.

For the past twenty years he has been refining his craft of story telling by creating profound and unique adventures for various gaming groups. Now he spreads his love of gaming with his kids and their friends.

His debut novel, “The Shadow Above The Flames,” was released by Immortal Works on June 6th 2017. He will also have a short story, “Tremors Within The Storm,” that will be included in Jason King’s Valcoria Awakenings anthology later in 2017.

How do you save the world from two monstrous entities? A power-hungry corporation and a newly awakened dragon…

In a world left reeling at the loss of fossil fuels, and after giving years of service to the military, Henry Morgan just wants a normal life. But between nagging feelings from his past and a strained relationship with his brother Rick, “normality” always feels just out of reach.

The Union Forest Corporation puts profits ahead of safety and with a dragon on the loose threatening to kill innocent people, something incredible happens…

Henry learns that Rick is among the force of elite commandos sent by Union Forest to battle against the dragon at the drilling site, he’s forced back into the roles of soldier and protective older sibling. He’ll do anything he can to save his brother . . . including risking his own life at the hands of a ruthless corporation. Henry may be the only person who can keep the world safe from total annihilation…

If you like fast-paced thrillers, brutal dragons, witty heroes, and evil villains, then you’ll love Daniel Swenson’s first novel – The Shadow Above The Flames. It’s a high octane thrill ride!

Hi, things are definitely moving along at the moment. As well as working on the next in the Gerald series I am being interviewed and I’d thought you might like to hear one that was recently recorded by Hugo award finalists, Dungeon Crawlers Radio. Gerald Release

Hi all, this is a quick post as I’m an extremely busy guy at the moment, which is a good thing. I am recording interviews, working in a local bookstore and writing the sequel to Gerald and the amulet of Zonrach, which was released on May 16th. It is available wherever books are sold and here is the Amazon USA link.

I have placed a short video below to so you can see how the launch party went. Even though the weather did what it could to dampen the event we all had a great time
