Beeld Express
In November 2016, I submitted a poem to a contest on Azertyfactor.be, a Dutch-speaking platform that offers opportunities and contests to writers. Although, in the past few years, I have grown more comfortable writing in English than in Dutch, now and then I like to return to where I started as a writer: my native language.
This particular challenge asked you to write a poem inspired by a photograph. Now some of you may know that I have a blog, Paranatellonta, inspired by Erin Morgenstern's Flax-Golden Tales. Every week, my friend Fie takes a picture, which inspires me to write a tiny story of 10 sentences. We have been doing this since August 2013 and so the Beeld Express challenge sounded right up my street.
I am proud to say that I won the contest and the result can be found on p. 22-23 of the magazine: click here to take a look!
