His Eyes...
His eyes tell a story
I can never understand,
for I have not seen
what they've seen.
His hands speak of things
I can never comprehend,
for mine have not
laboured like his have.
The lines on his face
speak of things
I cannot fathom,
for I have not
known such things.
His skin, pigmented
and aged by years
of sun exposure,
tells of events
I cannot perceive;
for I have not
witnessed such
atrocities.

Insomnia
I can't sleep...
The memory of your fingertips
on my skin,
invades my mind.
The warmth of your body,
pressed firmly against mine,
dominates my thoughts.
The recollection of your lips,
hot against my cool skin,
sends currents of electric energy
rippling through my body…
Your teeth grazing my shoulder.
Your eyes, I remember,
seemed to penetrate the very walls
I so carefully built around myself,
to keep out the likes of you.
I can still feel your lips,
your tongue,
your teeth,
your need.
Oh, sleep,
come;
release me.

Puppet
There's a space
in my chest
where I feel
the absence of
my heart - that was torn out
by you.
The space is small
and insignificant;
trivial,
worthless;
like my feelings were
to you.
It wasn't always like that;
my heart.
It was big once...
big,
and full of love
for you.
Until that day,
when I saw
the truth
behind the lies
that were a part
of you.
Now I know
I was nothing more
than a puppet
to the devil
residing
in you.

Jars of Candy ~ A Poem
Hearts
and scars
and tears
and jars
of Candy.
Scars
and scar tissue,
the cause
remains the issue.
Tears
and screams
and misplaced dreams.
Screams
and cries
and lies.
Cries
and fears
realised.
Lies
and more lies,
and jars of
Candy.

"I found this an emotional novel. Very gripping. I couldn’t put it down once I started – unfortunately I started reading just before going to bed and I was then up most of the night because even after I had finished the characters and the story stayed with me." - MoMo Book Diary
"Misled is simply written but eloquent. C.J. Spammer makes simply walking in another person’s shoes exciting and interesting enticing you to find out more. I really enjoyed this story and loved the easy going writing." - The Book Worm Buddy
A chance encounter between Sara and her ex-boyfriend, Justin, whom she hasn’t seen in four years, sends her into an emotional tailspin.
Sara has Bipolar Disorder which caused her to act impulsively and irrationally in the past. As she struggles with her thoughts and emotions after seeing Justin, the story ebbs and flows between the past and the present.
The reader is taken on a nostalgic rollercoaster ride back to when Sara - an eighteen year old art student working at a restaurant - first meets Justin.
In the past, we follow the beginning of their 4-year relationship, and its ultimate demise. Meanwhile, in the present, Sara must wrestle with long-kept secrets - secrets that have haunted her for years - and the guilt that accompanies them.
Although the story is often dark, touching on some serious issues, there are many lighter moments with sprinklings of humour and warmth.
The unexpected ending to this story will leave you reeling and wanting more.
"Loved the book. Beautiful story; didn't expect the end though. Finished the book in oneday, it was worth the wait." - Lauren Lindsey Langeveldt (Facebook follower)
"A thoroughly enjoyable read! Sat down and read the whole book in one sitting as I could not put the book down. It's a good storyline to begin with, but man, the ending... Now I await the sequel to see what happens next. Very intrigued. Well done C. J.!" - Bridget Rosser (Facebook follower)
"Candice: 2 A's - Amazing and Awesome! I will definitely recommend your book to my friends and anxiously await the sequel. THANK U Candice for sharing your book with me." - Berene Johnson (Facebook follower)
"The writing in this book is implemented so beautifully that I could not contain my excitement. Each new line conjured up so many emotions as I found myself connecting with the characters in this book. Having been diagnosed with a mental illness myself, I found your writing refreshing and insightful. A definite inspirational read." - Meggan Leigh Phillips (Facebook follower)
"I loved the book. Thought I could have a leisurely read. However, not to be. I was spellbound. Hibernated for the weekend and finished reading it in two days. Lovely easy reading with a delightful twist just near the end. We'll done!!!!! Waiting for sequel." - Michele DeWet (Facebook follower)
