Chris grew up in Northumberland in the north of England. After graduating in the early 90s he became an English language teacher living in Turkey, Portugal, India and traveling extensively. He returned to the UK to study an MA in International Politics and worked at Warwick University, before moving into policy research and implementation.

It's been a long time since I read it, and I have more than a passing interest in dystopian fiction at the moment. The new TV series is tremendous. I'm only two episodes in, but am hooked. One of the best bits of advice I read was to concentrate on the story and not the sentence. I think we can be drawn into being overly analytical and trying to write the perfect sentence all the time. You have to try and free yourself from unrealistic expectations and enjoy the process. (less)

It hasn't changed much over the years, I guess that’s the nature of historic buildings. It seems smaller each time I go, but everywhere does, once you’ve left and returned. This was something my Dad said to me when I first went to live abroad. He was wrong about a lot... Read more of this blog post »
