Nothing More Certain
Nothing More Certain (Familiar Spirits Book Three) is up for pre-order on Amazon and Smashwords. Release date is October 1.
Emery Elward returned to Trinity Creek with no intention of doing anything but repairing the farmhouse he grew up in, starting a business, and tending to the graveyard linked to his family’s property. He has no interest in renewing past friendships. But one old friend is determined to get Emery out from behind the cemetery’s iron gates.
Crafty, delicate Ezra Bell, who tailors his coal-black suits, knits gloves to warm his cold hands, and couldn’t make a plant grow if he tried, isn’t someone Emery can ignore. Ezra was Emery’s best friend all through school, his first crush, and his first kiss. Then Ezra stepped back without ever acknowledging that anything happened between them and Emery left town. But now Ezra is free to tell Emery the secret that kept them apart—the town is steeped in magic, the old families are witches, and some of them, like Ezra, are a little bit more.
Amid gray skies, falling leaves, and the paper cutouts of skeletons that decorate the town in anticipation of Halloween, Ezra is going to woo Emery back to the land of the living. If anyone can convince Emery that he is wanted, that Ezra still loves him, and that magic is real, it’s Ezra. Emery may be stubborn, but he is about to discover that nothing is more certain than Ezra.
Just in time for fall, which I am SO ready for!
(And after that, Clematis in November, and then a short fluffy fantasy thing I am working on. release date tba)

upcoming releases!
First things first--CLEMATIS!
Dreamspinner has announced the release date for Sweet Clematis, Book Nine in the Being(s) in Love series. November 27th, that pretty fairy is all yours, though you can pre-order now.
Cover reveal should be in September, but you can still put in an order without that.
Can a curse be a blessing?
Clematis works hard to embody every fairy stereotype. He can be a sulky prince or a submissive flirt, slutty and arrogant or silly and soft. He makes himself into whatever causes someone to want him. Combine that with beauty that’s incredible even for a fairy, and everyone wants him sooner or later… just not for long.
Well, everyone except the fairy Clematis secretly adores. But then, he’s never expected happily ever after, not when he’s spent years burying his emotions and making himself unlovable to push people away and protect his heart.
But his curse changes all that, and Clematis can no longer prevent his feelings from rising to the surface. He’s terrified that when his few friends see him for who he really is, they’ll abandon him, just like his parents did.
It’s hard to imagine friends who see past his act to the sweet person within, but maybe happiness has been in front of him the entire time, waiting for the real Clematis to break free and blossom.
Sweet Clematis
If you need something a little sooner than that, don't worry, Book Three of Familiar Spirits will be out at the start of October on both Smashwords and Amazon.

Release Day!
New novella!! All the softness and slightly bittersweet feels! (Followed with happiness and cake, don't worry!)
Jericho Candelario's Gay Debut
Jerry Candelario, known as Potts to almost everyone, has spent his entire adult life focused on raising his siblings and his niece. But the home he fought hard to make feels empty since everyone has grown up and moved out, and his precious baby niece is now a teen with a life of her own. With fewer people at the dinner table every night, Jerry suddenly has all the time in the world to think about what he wants.
For years, Jerry has kept to himself, never going to college, never dating or doing anything with his evenings except getting lost in a book. But although he pushed aside his longing for community and romance, he never stopped imagining the freedom he might have in a distant someday.
Then kind, clever, and out Lincoln Lee opened a bakery in Jerry’s small town. Jerry told himself he was lucky when they became friends. He was too busy to try for a relationship, and someone like Lincoln would never want someone like him anyway. But now that Jerry’s nights are free, all he wants to do is spend them with Lincoln. Jerry knows nothing about gay culture, or dating, or being in love. With Lincoln, he wants to try, but is he making a fool of himself or is his someday finally here?
Available on Smashwords and Amazon!
(aaaand now I want cake and have none. This was terribly short-sighted on my part.)

Been a while
And I have been a busy, busy bee.
First things first, I have a website. www.riscooper.com
It's pretty simple, but it has links to everything and updates, and several of my free short stories are posted there.
I know! Look at me! Almost an organized professional. Almost. (I need a secretary. No--I need an Arthur.)
Secondly, audiobooks for Treasure for Treasure and His Mossy Boy and now available on Audible. Different narrators, but I hear that both of them made Martin adorable. (Zarrin, of course, is always adorable. btw everyone keeps asking me if Zarrin slept with Justin during his days of being set up by his parents. The answer is no. He would have been a bit young during that period. He does know Edgar though.)
Next, the next Being(s) story has been accepted and will be published by Dreamspinner at the end of the year. Sweet Clematis. Everyone's favorite brat fairy has been cursed to feel his feelings and find out what love is. Whatever will he do?!?!?!
AND THEN, shortly to be released, a short novella about a quiet man in a small town, and the baker he's in love with, and how it might be time for him to finally go after what he wants. And there's cake! Jericho Candelario's Gay Debut should be out in May.
Now I sleep. I'm a tired girl. :)

a new release at last! Holly and Oak
If you are in the mood for a short about ridiculous pining witches (and ice cream) set around the Winter Solstice, you are in luck--I wrote a thing.
Set in the same universe as A Little Familiar, which makes that officially a series, so I gave it a series name. A Little Familiar and the new Holly and Oak are both part of the Familiar Spirits series. (*muffled excited screaming*)
Once a year, the town of Ravenscroft celebrates the winter solstice by watching the Oak King symbolically slay the Holly King to ensure the death of winter. To most people, it’s a pagan ritual that has lost all meaning in the modern world, harmless fun during the week of Christmas. To the coven who founded the town, it’s a magic so important they entrusted it to the two strongest witches in generations.
Will Battle and Chester Sibley are opposites in every way, or so Ravenscroft residents insist. Quiet, polite Will is the town’s beloved adopted son, popular and admired. Defiant, outspoken Chester is disliked and avoided despite being a direct descendant of the town’s founders. It’s no wonder Will is the embodiment of spring and life as the Oak King and Chester was given the cold, dark Season of Holly. No one in town seems to realize their nice, well-mannered Oak King has iron at his core and their fearsome Holly King only wants to make people happy. Perhaps that’s also why not even the other witches suspect that Chester has been in love with Will for almost his entire life.
That’s how Chester wants it. He might dream of Will, but he’s learned to keep his dreams to himself. The trouble is Will. For all that he smiles and nods, Will has started quietly rebelling against both the town and the coven. With only days until the winter solstice, he issues Chester a challenge—to finally ask for what he wants. If Chester tells the truth, he risks losing Will and upsetting the ritual that has made the town prosperous. But there is more between them than magic, no matter how powerful or ancient, and Chester would do anything for Will, even, just maybe, coming in from the cold.
Holly and Oak now available on Amazon and Smashwords as well as iTunes!

what I've been up to
Where have I been? Well... after His Mossy Boy came out, I settled in to finish a project I've been working on (gays in space) and then move on quickly to a new Beings story (Clematis, you naughty fairy!). That was the plan, anyway.
But then some things got in the way, as things do. Uh, the area where I work and live was on fire for about two weeks, among other things. SIGH. But I did not have the mental space to work on something long after that. So I moved on to shorter projects.
All the shorts that were up on Amazon are now also up on Smashwords, for anyone who does not like to deal with Amazon. :) Vincent's Thanksgiving Date has a new cover (yay!) and My Man Godric will have a new cover soon.
I also did a little fundraiser for fire relief. Thank you so much to everyone who participated!!! <3
I wrote a tiny ficlet of a story set in the Beings 'Verse (for Piper Vaughn, who wondered about the fairy on the soap opera that Zarrin and Tim watch) called Spring's Not So Secret Secret, and then, since the mood struck me, I wrote a short story (short novella??) set in the same world as A Little Familiar, but with new characters.
Holly and Oak is not a Halloween story. It's not even a Christmas story, although it takes place around Yule/The Winter Solstice. Two witches taking part in a very ancient ritual, with a lot of history between them. And there's ice cream!
(A small town run by its very traditional and conservative coven. A rebellious scion of an old house. The beloved son of another. A ritual that pits them against each other, year after year. And a longing that is getting harder and harder to deny. Plus ice cream. And mistletoe!)
It should be out at the end of this month/start of December. !!!
Now I am back to work on Clematis, as much as I can with the holidays here. Oh, that pretty boy. So much to learn. I am already crying about his broken heart.
Happy Holidays!
(P.S. I don't know about you, but I had to have ice cream handy when writing Holly and Oak so you might want some around when you read it. :) )

His Mossy Boy--release date
So some people read Treasure for Treasure and wondered, what about Martin? What about our sweet, conflicted barista with a real big crush on our grumpity Joseph?
Well, if you follow me on Tumblr, you might know that I wrote a sequel about a year ago (in fact, it was written before TFT came out) and I have been impatiently waaaaiting for it to come out so I could talk about it.
And now I have a release date!!!!!
September 11, His Mossy Boy can be all yours.
If, you know, you are in the mood for a story about Martin working out his feelings, and oh, a mysterious forest creature, and the whole issue with Zarrin Xu and his parents and control of Everlasting. With some side stories as well, because... this book is long. Over 400 pages long. (Martin gave me a lot of feelings, okay? He's a soft and gentle nerd who just wants to be needed.)
His Mossy Boy is Book 8 of the Being(s) in Love series. If you haven't read the others, you should be okay if you read it, but it is set directly after Treasure for Treasure. (So if you haven't read that one, but you are in the mood for a powderpuff of a dragon struggling to learn human ways so he can woo his treasure--a grumpy seeming barista--than Treasure for Treasure might be for you.)
His Mossy Boy
Years ago, a very intoxicated Martin nearly died in the woods outside Everlasting, and a beautiful creature saved him, although Martin’s done his best to forget it. He spends his time in a haze of weed as he avoids his emotionally abusive mother—and the way he feels about men. Martin is already a weirdo in his isolated small town; he doesn’t need a sexuality crisis too. He’s a mess, but someone—or something—always seems to take care of him, usually a tall, sarcastic deputy by the name of Ian Forrester.
No one knows much about Ian, which is how he and his family prefer it. Ian has resigned himself to a lonely life keeping his secrets and guarding his forest. It’s safe to dream of Martin, because Martin never remembers Ian helping him. Besides, Martin barely speaks to Ian, so nothing can ever grow between them. Right?
But with the dragons—and the magic—back in Everlasting, suddenly anything seems possible, even a happily ever after for two men who never expected one....
Release week I will be answering questions about this book, or the Beings in general, here if anyone has any, or on my Tumblr.
Now, I'm off to continue my current project. (Fake dating--in spaaaaaaace)

New story!
Sorry for the delay. I honestly meant this story to be done and out before the end of June, but real life rejected that idea. (Silly me, setting deadlines.)
I am still hard at work on gaaaayyyssss in spaaaaace, but real life is also still a Thing. (My work schedule is temporarily hectic as... heck. But my pining space gays are still happening. If you're on my Tumblr, you've probably seen me wondering aloud about alien physiolo--dick. Alien dick.)
Also, beings haven't been forgotten. Just that whole pesky Real Life thing I mentioned.
Anyway--> NEW STORY.
For Better or Worse. A shortish story and sort of sequel to Hottie Scotty and Mr. Porter, featuring two of the other firefighters.
To the other firefighters in Montgomery, Javier is a quietly heroic figure with a reputation for staying calm and doing what needs to be done. To the small town gossips, he’s some kind of mysterious ladies’ man, despite how he hasn’t dated anyone in years. Truth is, Javier’s demisexual—it takes him a while to feel desire for someone, and most people don’t want to wait for that to happen. Tired of being hurt, he gave up on dating. He gave up with such determination that two years into spending nearly every free evening making dinners with his best friend, Jimmy, he’s only just realized that he’s in love with him.
Jimmy is noise where Javier is silent. He expresses his thoughts and feelings about every subject imaginable—except the reason he moved thousands of miles away from his family to start a new life in Montgomery. He spends his nights with Javier, cooking and jointly taking care of his rescue dog. If he’s noticed that he and Javier have been all but dating each other for the past two years, he hasn’t said, and Javier isn’t going to risk upsetting him by asking.
That is, until the very public romance between their fellow firefighter, Scotty, and school librarian, Cole, leads Jimmy to reveal more about his past. Suddenly, Javier has hope. If he has to change the minds of the entire town in order to woo his best friend, then so be it. He’s not someone to let a little fear get in his way, especially when it means a chance to make their date nights real.
Available on both Amazon and Smashwords (and Hottie Scotty available at a lower price for anyone who missed it.)

state of the union, and a farewell of sorts
This is the last post I'm going to make on my livejournal. LJ's new policies mean it's time to go. I'm not sure if anyone still follows me there, but I wanted to give you a heads up. In about a week, I'm going to delete this thing. But not to fret, I imported everything to a dreamwidth account so none of the posts or free story bits that are here will disappear. thatrcooper on dreamwidth
And as always, you can still find me (and more free story bits) on my tumblr. (And Facebook. And Twitter. Though I don't tweet much.) Also I will still post on Goodreads, just not automatically the way it used to. omg I feel like I'm everywhere!
In Beings news-- for whatever reason, there is a loooong delay between my last Beings book, Treasure for Treasure, and the next one, His Mossy Boy. His Mossy Boy is due out around September or possibly October. (Maaaaartin!) It is... a very long book. Sorry, guys. That seems to be how I roll these days with the Beings. (There's a lot going on. Dragons! A mystery! Toxic parents! Older lesbians! A kinky elf! Knitting!) After that, I'm thinking maaaybe some more fairies, although I know romantic stories about my fairies aren't super popular unless a gruff werewolf is involved. Sigh. But it's important, okay? Clematis has a lesson to learn. And then... after that... who knows? (Oh right. I do. Maybe. Possibly. There are people we need to meet.)
In non Beings type news-- I'm in the middle of moving, plus I have a family situation I am dealing with, so everything is chaotic around here. BUT I am going to do my best to get at least one short story/novella up soon and.... um... some time this summer, I'm going to attempt to self pub an actual book. (It's that thing I've been calling Gaaaays in Spaaaaace because I am old and make references like that. Aliens! Linguistics! Wicked space emperors! Dramatic rescues! Gold make up! Mouthy interpretors!) Then I want to get that other beings story done and hopefully a few more things. It's.... gonna be a busy, busy summer.
Also, hey, because Amazon is a necessary evil, but still pretty evil, I'm working on getting all my self pubbed/posted stuff up on Smashwords as an alternative for everyone. This is slow going because, well, you see everything else I have going on. But I am getting covers and such and someday... someday.... I might clean up Ideas of Sin. Shocking I know. (Honestly, I am scared to look at it again. It was so important to me at the time, but I am sure it's a mess and I will cringe a lot and want to rewrite it.) R. Cooper on Smashwords
Hmmm I think that's it. I hope everyone is well, and I guess I'll catch you on the flipside!
