New stuff at last!

Hello hello!

Some health stuff (illness and some persistent brain fog) and life stuff prevented me from getting the writing done that I had hoped to do at the start of the year, but I finally, hopefully, am getting back to feeling like a person, and some writing/work has been done! I am very excited!!

A quick thank you (again) to everyone who participated in the charity auction I recently ran. (For updates and news like that, you can always check my site riscooper.com or subscribe to my newsletter. Don't worry, I do not inundate you with letters. I do maybe one a month, if that.) The last of the 'won' items will go out next week. Exciting! Check your mailboxes!

Okay, on to STUFF.

A Suitable Consort (For the King and His Husband) will be available on paperback! Basically as soon as I check over the Proof, which arrived today!

As for new stuff, how about a Being(s) novella? What if it was f/f and historical, and, as if the way with some Beings work, barely about magic but with one or two subtle Easter Eggs for later stories? What if I was establishing a bit more lore, but it had ladies being cute and nervous and perhaps a little bitey? ??? What if???

Something Bright

Former tomboy Batch wonders about who she is, what her place is and where it might be. Olivia Hooper tells her fantastic stories about true love, destiny, and the almost magical town where she grew up—implying Batch is, or could be, a part of all of those things, and there might be a place for Batch if Batch could only dare to imagine it.

Featuring an old-timey butch and her mate--er--the tomboy longing for softness that the butch adores. Also a grumpy old man and some found family feels.

It will be on ebook and in paperback and ~possibly~ on audiobook eventually.

Something Bright April 19th!

And then I am off to finish Being(s) in Love #10, Forget-Me-Not. !!! Hopefully out this summer!

TTFN,

R. Cooper

End of the Year fun stuff

Happy holidays, to anyone who celebrates anything this time of year. Happy New Year as well, when that time comes! Though you don't have to wait to start new stuff, or to reflect on the past, or to have a little bubbly. Whatever. <3

For the end of the year, I have a few things going on. A new story coming out. A paperback collection of the Familiar Spirits is now available. And I am back to working on the Beings. (Yay finally!)

The new story is called Ravenous. It's a little historical fantasy novella, with some monsterfucking. But mostly two dorks being dorky, as is my usual trend. :)

----
Those who come back from the mysterious place known as the Realm, if they come back, are changed. Some return haunted. Others with knowledge of themselves that they will not share, and the magic of the Realm at their disposal. The peculiari, as these few are called, are tolerated at best, feared at worst.

Nicodemus isn’t anything like one of the exceptional, adventurous peculiari. For the most part, he’s content to keep house for the peculiari of the Arawn Agency and rarely ventures outside of the manor they all call home. As an asterion, one of the unwanted, monstrous children of the Realm, Nicodemus is human in appearance except for the ram’s horns growing from his head, and prefers the company of those who don’t judge him. There’s just one hitch in his otherwise safe and orderly world. One awkward, inconvenient, twice-a-year problem in which Nicodemus goes into what can humiliatingly only be called a rut.

It’s a secret he keeps from the others. But this year, unable to stand the thought of spending his rut alone, he ventures out in search of company—only to run into Bel, the one person he hopes will never discover his secret. Bel is powerful enough to make even other peculiari wary and far more experienced than Nicodemus in the ways of the world. But tonight, Bel isn’t out seeking pleasure. He’s on the hunt for a true monster that has slithered from the Realm to hurt people, and he seems to think Nicodemus is especially in danger. The Realm, and this creature, are drawn to people who want, and sheltered, lonely Nicodemus, with his rut approaching, is nothing but want.

According to Bel, the best way for anyone to stay protected from the temptations of the Realm is to indulge themselves enough to make their desires manageable. Alone with Bel for the first time after Bel vows to keep him safe, Nicodemus starts to wonder what it is that he really wants, and why Bel understands the appetites of a monster so well, and if perhaps Nicodemus should follow Bel’s advice and indulge some desires of his own.

Ravenous up for preorder now, but available December 26th!

The paperback of the Familiar Spirits is out now, for those interested. It has all three stories and a few short bonus stories, plus a pretty new cover. <3 <3 <3

And now I am back to working on Beings! I'm so happy! Fingers crossed it goes well.

Take care, and be gentle with yourselves as December rolls on.

New fantasy m/m/m novella!

A Suitable Consort (For the King and His Husband)

Out July 26th!!
A Suitable Consort (For the King and His Husband) by R. Cooper

Everyone expects the king to rage at the suggestion that he find a new spouse to stand alongside--or better yet, replace--his beloved husband. Some might be planning on it, hoping to incite another conflict like what has plagued the country since the death of the last legitimate ruler. But to everyone’s surprise, the infamous Traitor King, Arden Canamorra, reacts to the suggestion with amusement, perhaps even interest.

Decades of chaos ended with Arden’s ascension to the throne. But many in the oldest noble families want more influence over the crown--noble influence, that is. Not from the king’s lower-rank and somewhat rough palace guard husband, Mil. They don’t care that Mil is a hero who helped secure peace at Arden’s side, and that, at least among the common people, Arden and Mil’s love story is legendary.

Mattin, however, is outraged. A librarian at the royal library and advisor to the king despite his relatively young age, Mattin deeply admires the royal couple. That they happen to also be incredibly attractive is something he very determinedly ignores. If Arden and Mil are going to marry again for political purposes--since Mattin is sure no new love could ever match their great passion for each other--he will at least find someone perfect for them. If thinking about it makes Mattin miserable, well, he ignores that, too.

But the king and his husband seem less interested in meeting appropriate nobles and more interested in fussing over Mattin while making plans of their own. It’s a more complicated matter than an innocent librarian could have realized, with more at risk than just his heart. The most suitable consort might not be enough to appease certain nobles, but the most beloved might win over the entire country.

an m/m/m romance

Available July 26th!

(Sorry it's to the point today. I'm tired and saving my energy for writing the new project. But I hope you enjoy this. It's meant to be sweet, because I needed some sweetness.)

New year, new stuff (yes, I am a little behind lol)

Hello! I hope everyone is safe and hanging in there as best as you can. (Except for like... white supremacists and TERFs, etc obviously. I don't wish them well at all.)

For the new year, I have a couple of story offerings. One, out on Smashwords only, unless you follow me on Patreon, is a 99 cent short, sweet little thing called A Heaven to Reach For . Think, like, something vaguely pre-Enlightenment Europe but with magic. One very large guardsman has a lot of thoughts about one very small priest--who sparkles!

Then, finally, coming out at the end of March, I have the book I was using as my distraction from all the stress of last year. (The stress carried over into this year, of course, but the book remained at least.) Two knights, on what seems like a simple, if mysterious quest, find something looking for something else instead. Also there is pining. Cuz it's me and I always write pining. And magic. And unicorns.

The Devotion of Delflenor
a fantasy queer romance, f/nb

For ten anxious years, the country of Ainle has had no chevetein to keep their many lesser cheves in check and maintain peace. Anyone can become the chevetein if it is the will of the Three, as the most powerful of the gods are known. But as the years pass, fewer and fewer people go to the Seat to offer themselves as chevetein. Doubt has crept in among the population, and more than one arrogant cheve has decided that the time has come to abandon the old ways. Only the presence of Prityal of Ters, Knight of the Seat, Tyrant-slayer, the Hope of Ainle, has kept the country from falling into chaos.

Soft-spoken but fierce, noble as well as beautiful, Prityal is all that a Knight of the Seat should be. As faith dwindles, so, too, does the number of knights waiting to serve the chevetein, and with no one else available, it is Prityal who volunteers for a risky mission to an unfamiliar place. She cannot go alone. So, Delf, a lower-tier knight, accompanies her.

Plain, with an odd sense of humor, and of no fame or noted background, Delf is content to act as Prityal’s squire on this quest. Delf has loved Prityal for years with no intention of ever speaking of it. A hero and a nobody might become friends as they travel through ancient lands, facing tricky spirits and desperate farmers, finding ruins and knights of faded glory, speaking of magic and the history they share—yet even that is beyond Delf’s dreams of her future.

But a chevetein must be found, and Prityal will do it at the cost of her life, if need be, though the country—and Delf—need her. It seems the Three have plans, after all, and will use anything to see them through—including the strong, devoted heart of a hero.

March 27th!

Hopefully, they help distract all of you as well. :)

Oh, I also set up an Instagram. I probably won't post a lot, because a photographer I am not, but there should be some fun stuff there, once in a while. @riscoops

Happy Birthday to me, and some repeat announcements

The audiobook for A Little Familiar is out and available at all audiobook shops--except Audible. Not because I don't want it to be up on Audible, but because Audible is allegedly "behind." Ah well. It was meant to be out before Halloween, and it is... just not on the world's largest audiobook store. (Is it because I didn't go Audible/Amazon-exclusive this time? lol They'll never tell me if it is.) But *eventually* it will be up on Audible too.

In the meantime, Piotr and Bartleby are available in audio on Kobo, Nook, Chirp, Apple, Google, Scribd etc... As well as being available in ebook and paperback, as always.

More happy news, Play It Again, Charlie 's re-release is here! It is out in ebook and paperback once again in just two days, on November 2nd!

I know I announced that before, but I wanted to say it again. It's the last of my books to be re-released! I am done! I am free!

Ahem.

And as a reminder, there is an AU version of Will and Charlie free on Smashwords, and I am still in the process of posting lots of my old commentfics to my Patreon, so members get to read all the wonderful, silly other versions of them.

Speaking of my Patreon, members get first glimpse of my little free birthday story this year. (I try to do something small and fun for myself every year for my birthday, if I have time and feel up to it. I generally make them free as well.) Everyone else will have to wait until next week to read it on Smashwords. Not Your True Love, But Your True Love. m/trans f. Short and fairly PG rated. Magic silliness!

Also, before I forget. The Beings paperbacks will be available in November! Woooo all the way from Some Kind of Magic to The Tales of Two Seers. !!! Finally!

Then I can get back to writing... well... probably editing since the holiday season tends to interrupt writing. But The Devotion of Delflenor *does* need to be cleaned up before I focus back on the Beings. :):):)

Fall update!

We are still in the middle of what we call Fire Season here in California, but it's Autumn to many of you, just the time for a witchy boys update. And, frankly, time for something calming to escape into for a while, if you can.

For that reason, as a small, nice thing, I worked with Findaway Voices (and my helpful and wonderful narrator Joshua Macrae) to release an audiobook of A Little Familiar.

It will be distributed throughout many platforms, including Chirp and Audible. I'd give you an exact release date, but none of those services do that. The best I can tell you is that it will be out sometime this month!! Bartleby! Piotr!! Yearning over pumpkin carvings and spells and cider!!!

Hopefully, some of you get to listen to it in the rain. Talk about mood!!

In other news, the re-release of Play It Again, Charlie is finally happening. I am a little embarrassed by this story now--not for Charlie or Will themselves, just for my earlier writing. But ah well. It is out, with a new cover and a small epilogue, on November 2, in ebook and paperback.

The Beings paperbacks are ready to go as well, as soon as I have a few moments to sit down and fuss with them all. I will have them out likely before December, but this month, I might get distracted by whatever short story I do (if I decide to) for my birthday. I like to do a small thing for my bday each year if I can (if I can destress enough this year. ugh). We shall see!

I hope everyone is well, and getting some moments of calm and happiness in a hellish year. Stay strong! <3<3<3

Info post: how to find me without Facebook

It's no secret that I don't like Facebook, mostly because I don't like their policies. (Monitoring your offline activity--yes, they do that. You can turn it off but it's buried deep in your settings. Promoting right wing nonsense in their algorithms and then pretending they don't. Allowing the spread of misinformation. Also treating their content moderators terribly despite all the horrible things those people have to see everyday. For a few examples. I won't go on.)

Since I'd like to someday get off FB altogether, here's a quick list of other places you can find me or updates about my releases if anyone is interested.

Twitter @ rispacooper
Tumblr @ sweetfirebird
My website: www.riscooper.com

I do blog posts here for all my new releases.

I also have a newsletter. You can find the link on my site. I do maybe a post a month. Not too many.

My releases are all listed on BookBub

I also have a Patreon. patreon.com/rcoops --though that is still new and I am figuring it all out.

(First Facebook, and maybe one day, I will also be able to be free of Amazon while still able to sell books. Who knows?)

The Tales of Two Seers

As the re-release of the Beings stories reaches the end, a small new Beings thing to tide everyone over while I work on new stuff. (Which... might be slow going. I have it mostly ready to start, but the world is what it is right now, and my ability to focus has been shot to hell. A lot of authors are in this situation, so please be patient with us.)

Still, I am very pleased to finally have all the original Beings stories back out or due out in the next few weeks. His Mossy Boy and Sweet Clematis are May releases, and then, right at the start of June, the brand-spanking new title, The Tales of Two Seers will be released!!

The Tales of Two Seers is another anthology, but different in tone than the Firebird. It's, um, sort of a book of fairy tales.

And technically, it is the tenth book I have written for the Beings Verse but it is NOT Book Ten. Why? Because most of it does not even take place within the Beings Verse... though it might be considered a commentary on it. Hmm that sounds too mysterious. lol. Just know it's not Book Ten. That's the only important thing to know right now. It was a mostly unplanned, fun little side project while I tried to get my brain back in working order after frying it writing Taji. :)

The Tales of Two Seers

A Being(s) in Love Anthology

Very little is known about seers—those individuals, both human and being, with the power to know both what could have been and what is yet to come. Seers prefer it that way. Some of them run from their visions. Others call themselves artists or authors instead of oracles. But even in the most seemingly innocent of their creations, the truth will out, and lessons will be learned.

Two storytellers of different eras and vastly different temperaments weave fantastic tales of magic and romance for their enthralled audiences: A young prince avoids his betrothed and the curse that binds them. A witch uses his magic to help the man he loves court someone else. A warrior betrayed by his lord finds himself in the company of a mysterious stranger. A half-fae is doomed to be sent to the Faery Court unless he can find someone to love him. A lonely outcast finds himself drawn to a forbidden forest. A bookseller at a masked ball wonders if he should pursue a handsome prince. A dragon attempts to woo a beast. A shy servant is given one night to reach for what he wants. Fairy tales that reveal more about the tellers, and their audiences, than they might want.

Being(s) in Love:

Magical creatures known as beings emerged from hiding amid the destruction of the First World War. Since then they’ve lived on the margins of the human world as misunderstood objects of fear and desire. Some are beautiful, others fearsome and powerful. Yet for all their magic and strength, they are as vulnerable as anyone when it comes to matters of the heart.

Available through Smashwords and Amazon

JUNE 2!!!

(Love that you guys are willing to put up with me being sort of experimental with this stuff. Seriously, thank you.)

Being(s) in Love

The re-release! (I think that in the Mel Brooks voice from Spaceballs, every time.)

After almost a year out of print, the Beings of Los Cerros, Madera, and Everlasting are on their way back!!!

Some Kind of Magic is first, with A Boy and His Dragon close behind. Because someone commented (correctly) that SKoM is tonally much different from the others, and I want newbies to have a better idea of the rest of the books. But the others will not be long after. Everybody will be making an appearance with shiny new covers.

I will be re-releasing them as ebooks only, at first, to have them all out before I publish a new Beings collection to reward everyone who has been so patient as I dealt with publishers and everything.

That's right. You heard me. New Beings content at last! (Well, new-ish... well... you'll see). Just a little something while I finally get back to writing the next big beings novel and other little projects.

The audiobooks should stay up, although there might be a few hitches as they get new covers and I learn to deal with ACX.

The second edition Beings will be available in paperback as well, just not right away. (I will work on that once I have my current project wrapped up).

The French translated Beings series Bestiaire amoureux will stay available as well, with newer titles on the way.

The title of the new Beings book, by the way, for anyone looking for a hint, is The Tales of Two Seers. hmmmmm

And now, I am off to write, if I can. But before I go, one last reminder that you can always check for updates on my website or subscribe to my newsletter. (Link on the site)

Taji From Beyond the Rings

Taji From Beyond the Rings (aka Space Gays) is up for preoder, at a special lower price!

The Interplanetary Trade Coalition has not been welcomed with open arms by the Sha Empire. Isolated at the far edge of a distant system, the Sha are distrustful of outsiders, and previous I.P.T.C. diplomatic missions have ended with members imprisoned or dead. But, if pushed enough, the I.P.T.C. will overrun the planet to take what it wants. The situation is already precarious when student linguist Taji Ameyo is conscripted to translate for the newest I.P.T.C. ambassador. Taji, used to being alone, has never learned to hide his heart or his opinions, and the controlled Sha nobility regard little, outspoken human Taji with fascination, calling him shehzha.

Mysterious, coveted figures, so devoted to their lovers that pleasing them is a test of Shavian honor, shehzha are usually kept out of public view. Taji is a nobody, hardly alluring, and yet it’s not long before his runaway mouth gets him entangled in imperial politics, and he has no one rely on but the soldiers assigned to protect him—one soldier, more than the others.

At the mercy of both a greedy trade coalition and a proud empire, Taji has to determine what it means to be shehzha, while surrounded by ambitious noble families and a sharp-eyed emperor, and hopefully learn enough about the Sha to keep him and everyone he cares about alive.

A queer sci-fi romance with a gorgeous cover!

Up for preorder now on Amazon and at Smashwords for $3.99, but the price will go up once it's officially out.

For more information or questions, check out my Twitter or Tumblr (links in my profile here) or my site www.riscooper.com

(There is also a link there to a mailing list if you prefer stuff like that. I do bonus stories and sneak peeks and things sometimes.)
