I liked Pulse, # I by B. A. Bellec so much that I boughtand will read Pulse, #2 as soon as time permits. B.A. is a master storytellerand has one of the more unique YouTubevideo blogs that I’ve ever seen, https://www.youtube.com/@BABellec.I’ll let my review speak for itself.

 “I justfinished Pulse, #1 by B. A. Bellec, a Sci-Fi conspiracy thriller wrappedin a horror story wrapped in an enigma. Wonderful. A real ‘David and Goliath’story about a small band of eco-vigilantes working to bring down a small partof a giant, above-the-law, profit-above-all corporation, The Pulse Corporation.Just like in Star Wars, the band is planning an attack that can’t possibly win,can’t possibly leave a mark. They do it anyway. I cheered. What could gowrong??? And we’re off. But things go so terribly wrong. I like reading booksthat are a creative mark off the traditional. Pulse, #1 was just that.The format was almost a mashup between a novel and a screenplay. It added tothe overall feel and emotion of the book. I can’t give it a higherrecommendation. Five stars for B.A. Bellec and for his creation, the Pulseseries.”

The Judas Robe (Larry Rodness), The Back Story

 

As always, I enjoy a book far more when I know a bit of the back story for the book, the moment of inspiration, if you will. This was true for Larry Rodness' book, The Judas Robe. Book to screenplay is not unusual for we authors that create both. But Screenplay to book well that's another matter. To do justice for this Back Story, I'm quoting Larry:  

 'The novel entitled “The Judas Robe” actuallycame out of a vampire script I’d written years ago as a screenplay. (Who hasn’twritten a vampire story?) Vampires always posed existential questions to meabout immortality and the consequences of actions reverberating down throughthe centuries. I jettisoned the vampire aspect but decided to address questionsI’d long considered about religion and its effects on humankind. The mostimportant thing was the story line – creating an inciting incident strongenough to have an impact for thousands of years and affect millions of people.The hook for me was The Judas Robe, an ancient relic that had been owned andprotected by one family for years was now being threatened and its exposurewould affect almost everyone on the planet.'

So, when you read The Judas Robe, imagine Larry trying to adapt it from a screenplay. More fun to read.

A Mark Shaiken Review of The Defect by Jeff Bailey

 

This was a nice way to start the new year, a review of my book The Defect from fellow author, Mark Shaiken. His books are the best and I value hisopinion. Here, let me quote Mark,

Dakota by Kerry Kennedy - The Back Story

 

AsI’ve said many times, one of the aspects of being a writer that I particularlyenjoy is all the people that I meet and get to interact with. Part of that isthat I get to hear the stories about what particular moment or event that inspireda novel. How did the story develop from that moment – The Back Story. I wascorresponding with British novelist Kerry Kennedy not long ago, and she relatedthis story about her novel, Dakota.

“Iwas out with close friends many years ago, and one of the friends told me howshe had met someone at a bar. They hit it off instantly and discovered how manytimes their paths had crossed. The relationship was purely a friendship. Laterit transpired that they were half-brother and sister. Their father was the linkand he had left my friend’s mother when she was still pregnant, and no contacthad ever been made. That then evolved into a whole book, about deception andhow something that's kept a secret can destroy lives with fatal consequences.”

Iread and reviewed Dakota and, when I got that chapter in the book, it was allthe more enjoyable and familiar. I was able to imagine myself sitting at thenext table watching it all unfold because I knew the Back Story.

My Most Favorite All-Time Review - Jeff Bailey

        This is my most favorite review of all time. The reviewer is my great-grandson. A few days ago, he sat off by himself and seemed to be happily coloring. Then he presented me with his review. He had asked me earlier what I was working on and I explained what a review was and how much authors like them. He took it heart and went to work. For those who can't read six-year-old, here's a translation of his opinions. I added the words he wanted to say in brackets to make it easier to read:

'Jeff Belle [Bailey] was the bisce [biggest] creatr [creator].He has made ade [and] shrd [shared] miles [millions] of books. He hes [has]made Defect and Not On My Woch [Watch]. He is cumen [coming out with] miles [millions]of more books. He is kumen [coming out] with a new book. The [This] is my gdpo [grandpa],Jeff Belle [Bailey]. Best book crehtrsrs [creator]. [heartheart].'

Needless to say, this gets framed and hung on the wall in my office. From me - big smiles.

Corona, California: Jeff Bailey's Book Signing Tour Event

           A quick picture from last weeks California Book Signing Tour Event in Corona California. The event went beautifully. The management and staff treated Patty and me so well that I felt like part of their family. I guess that makes this a family event, lol. If one looks closely at the picture, it looks like I'm scowling. I'm really not. We took several pictures to give me a choice of which to print. This picture caught me at the the perfectly timed sneeze (sneeze-click.) I did take a couple of better pictures, but this one just captured my sense of the playful and unique. I had to go with it. I met quite a few really nice people at the event and had some good book discussions. Corona must be a stellar town to live in. Oh yeah, we sold some books also. Almost forgot that part. I'll keep you posted as events come up on the schedule. Have a good week.

Jeff Bailey Reviews B. D. Vannoy's Falling Toward Redemption

 

Such a differentread from my normal genres. Falling Toward Redemption is an epic good versusevil battle played out with the true icons of Christianity, God, The Devil,Angles, Demons, an ancient evil queen, and one modern little boy. FallingToward Redemption drew me in with the interesting characters and a captivatingstoryline. The battle scenes were reminiscent of some the recent super-heromovies, only these characters were real heroes, these battles were forhumanity’s soul. As this was a different kind of read for me, I had somedifficulty coming up with the necessary words to describe how much I liked theread. I highly recommend Falling Toward Redemption. Interesting. I alwaysappreciate when an author writes what he knows and B. D. Vannoy knows this subject. Agreat summer read.

My New Book Signing Assistant

 

This book signing event was one of my more fun events. As much as I like theses events, this one made my day. We are at the Winchester Barnes and Noble in beautiful downtown Temecula, California, the gem of the Southern California Inland Valleys region. The store was perfect, the staff made us more than welcome, and the clientele constant and charming. Although, I think that more people stopped by the table to talk to Avry than to talk books with me. Oh yeah, we also sold some books. Too bad, he's back in school. I'd take him to all the events on the tour. 

Jeff Bailey Reviews Kerry Kennedy's Boris Flies To The Moon

  I received my copy of Boris Flies To The Moon by Kerry Kennedy by UPS early on a Friday morning. When my great grandson came down, he saw the book and shouted with delight. He loves his books. I sat and read with him until Mom came and got him to get ready for school. As they were leaving the house, he asked if he could take the book to school for show-and-tell, great. As it turns out, his teacher read the book to the class during their morning reading session. I understand that Boris Flies To The Moon received a five-star review from all of his classmates. From first-received to 20 five-star reviews all before first recess, excellent. Boris is a world-class children’s read. Kudo’s Kerry, Kudos.

Jeff Bailey Reviews Kez St. George's Metal Mermaid

 

                
The Metal Mermaid by Kez Wickhan St. George was a read worth the time. It was a memoir of an epic trip up the coast of Australia and across the North Island of New Zealand. A journey of the spirit as well as a description of the wonders of these lands. Kez tells it all from the loss of a husband (not overtold or overwrought) in the middle of the trek to the final sea cruise home. Metal Mermaid reminded me of the American book: Zen, And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance: A walk-around of growth and meditation. I’ve never been to Australia, but I was enthralled with the richness of the descriptions. I even got out a map if Australia and traced the route as best I could. For me, Metal Mermaid was superb, five stars.
