Bodice Follow-Up

So after last night's post, I went back to Truly Victorian and poked around, hoping to get inspiration as to how I wanted to handle the bodice in my new, post-blue-taffeta reality. See, for the top I was intending to make this:

I was going to recut the sleeves (bell sleeves? No thank you) [...]

Skirt (construction) is finished!

I had a very trying weekend. First of all, my sewing machine started acting up. I need to open it all up and clean it, maybe that will help. But even more intensely annoying was the discovery that I cannot get any more blue taffeta, at least not the particular shade & brand I've [...]

*Bonus* Midweek Costuming Update

A true test of how obsessed one is with any project is how early in the morning one is willing to get up to work on it. These days, I am getting up at 4 a.m. to get a few hours of work in on sewing before I have to go to work. Insanity? [...]

Crazy train

I hate to say this but I'm starting to get pretty sick of sewing. And when one is sick of sewing a Parisian trained skirt, one is clearly sick of life. But I am not so sick of life that I'm going to fail in my project blogging duties, because of all the duties [...]

"Basting & pleating, basting & pleating …"

… all weekend long I sang that song. Which isn't so much a song, really, as just words I kept humming tunelessly to myself. Basting and pleating. Basting and pleating.

It wasn't all basting and pleating though. The big news from this weekend is that I got the front three skirt panels done! Have [...]

Daughter punched up "Open Season II" on Netflix this AM. This is notable only in that Crispin Glover plays a poodle. Awesome. #

The first three skirt panels

OK, here's what I realized about Project Runway this weekend. The main challenge of that show—the actual and true challenge—is trying to complete a runway-ready garment in 8-12 hours. And the incredible difficulty of this challenge is completely lost on viewers who don't actually sew. Which, I would guess, is probably most viewers. Anyway, I [...]

Banting Update

It's time for an update on my jolly Banting adventures! As faithful readers may recall, I have been Banting since June of last year. This means I've been eating a very high fat (>60%), medium protein, very low carb (<5%) diet, with all the carbs I do eat coming from vegetables only, no grains [...]
