THE RISE UP TRILOGY
THE RISE UP TRILOGY
Author Name
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Young Adult Contemporary
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
The Rise up trilogy is a coming-of-age story about Hashim, Alex and Maryam, three best friends on the threshold of adulthood. Before they can find their place in this world, they must come to terms with their past and learn to confide in each other as they are confronted by intolerance, ignorance, and corporate greed that threaten to rob them of their future. Inspirational, harrowing, intense and deeply moving, this trilogy presents a ray of hope amidst terrible hardship, misfortune and loss.
Book One: Catch You if You Fall
High school best friends Hashim, Alex, and Maryam must confront real-life issues that loom for Gen-Z today, including the climate crisis, corrupt politics, and racial and gender equity.
When Hashim turns eighteen, he receives a grant from his Mosque that will send him to an Ivy League in New York. His devout Muslim family couldn’t be more proud. And to support their young son on his journey, they arrange a wife for him. There’s only one problem: Hashim is gay.
Hashim’s best friend Alex is struggling with a difficult home life, a non-present father, and financial issues that prove particularly painful when all his friends are planning to go off to college and leave him behind.
Standing confidently alongside these two boys is Maryam, a headstrong Muslim girl who bucks her traditional roots by becoming a vegan activist.
It doesn’t take long until certain evil forces start to draw these three even closer, as their futures and the wellbeing of their community and the world is threatened. They are called to act.
Book Two: Merry Farm
In the second installment of the Rise Up Trilogy, best friends Hashi, Alex, and Maryam stumble upon a huge government coverup. When more people get sicker and sicker, and nothing about the outbreak makes news, it becomes clear the corruption goes up high.
As the three attempt to expose and stop a tragedy that could kill thousands, they end up framed as the bioterrorists responsible for this exact crime, and a team of hitmen is dispatched to hunt them down. As they grapple with their own growing pains, Hashi, Alex, and Maryam hurry to outrun the disaster, prove that they are innocent, and do what they feel is right.
Book Three: Collusion
Now a well-known activist, Maryam, along with her two best friends Hashim and Alex, is chosen by the President of the United States to draw up a proposal to help fight climate change, mere weeks before superstorm Roxanne makes landfall in the Northeast.
After the President’s Future Rescue Advisory Board hears their climate proposal to set heavy taxes on meat, dairy and carbon emissions, and someone leaks it to the press, chaos spreads across party lines. A few months since they stopped a deadly virus in its tracks, the three uncover a conspiracy on the highest level of the legislative branch.
While the deadly hurricane wreaks havoc along the eastern seaboard, destroying the U.S. Naval Command in Norfolk, Virginia, and hitting New York City with devastating force, Maryam, Hashim, and Alex grapple with forces beyond their control in the government.
How will their stories unravel? What do their futures hold as they mature into adults in a world that may not accept them? Find out in this last book in the Rise Up Trilogy.

From CATCH YOU IF YOU FALL
“And it’s going to happen tomorrow,” Hashim said as he crouched on the couch.
Alex drew his brows closer, but soon his forehead smoothed. “Seriously?” he said and studied Hashim’s face. “Wow. We need to get you out of this mess.”
Sharing his predicament with his best friend had calmed Hashim’s nerves. Not that he had told the whole story, like the fact that he was gay. However, that was a piece of information he had only shared with God, though unwillingly, because from Him, you can’t hide a thing.
Alex’s eyes grew wide. “But you’re just turning eighteen, for God’s sake. Isn’t it a little early to get engaged?”
Hashim pressed his lips together and winced. You tell me.
“His mom knows that once Hashim has committed to an engagement, he won’t break it,” Maryam said. She had been following the conversation from the other side of the room, giving the guys some space after she saw how upset Hashim was when he came in. “Without a solid religious reason to back out, that could shame the whole family,” she added. “People won’t greet you anymore or return your calls. You become a nobody.”

Q & A With …
Tell us about you as a person.
When I was a kid, I loved books about faraway countries. Since I was ten years old, my father would stack books on my desk to read. He probably saw that I loved to read, and I was very curious about the world. Then at the age of twelve I stumbled upon Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. It took place about two thousand five hundred years ago during the time of Siddhartha Gautama, aka Buddha, the namesake of the protagonist. There are a lot of similarities between this fictional character and Buddha, at least enough to get me very interested in Buddhism. This book really changed my life. I became aware of the spiritual world and the need to explore it further, and to do that, I needed to train my self-discipline, which I began by quitting candy and chocolate for year. I have continued this exercise in one form or the other all throughout my life. It also very much affected how I look at the world. I realized that it’s not important how different I am from the other people, but what I have in common with them. This new-born curiosity made me delve into different cultures and religions since my early teens and all the understanding I gained over the years through people I met was the cornerstone of how I became a writer in my thirties.
If you could hang out with one famous person for one day, who would it be and why?
I would love to hang out with Jordan Peterson for a day. I love the way he’s not afraid to show his vulnerability, his take on spiritual life, and his willingness to throw himself into a discussion without preconceived agenda. Of course, there are a lot of issues I disagree with him like most of his political views and his stand on climate change, but that would only add fervour to our conversation.
What’s the story behind the Rise Up Trilogy?
I published years ago a YA novel in Finland about three best friends at the threshold of adulthood which was inspired by a fifteen-year stint as a volunteer in a Red Cross youth shelter. I wanted to get it published it abroad, but I felt something was missing. Since my early teens I’ve been fascinated by Islam. Sufism, the mystical sect of Islam, played a key role in my own spiritual awakening and spurred me to become a writer. Then one day as I was browsing books in a bookshop in Amsterdam, I came across Sex and the Citadel by Shereen El Feki about Arab sexuality, including the history of homosexuality in the Arab world. During the Golden Age of Islam, homosexual yearnings were very well tolerated, even celebrated among the poets, intellectuals and upper echelons of the society. What happened to this open-mindedness over the centuries really captivated my imagination, especially since I knew from Sufism how forgiving and merciful Islam is. The third big inspiration came from within as I became vegan myself and saw how for our diet, we are not only ruthlessly killing farm animals but also ourselves while destroying our planet in the process.
What advice do you have for other writers who want to get the word out about their latest book?
I think perseverance is the key to any human endeavour. I haven’t yet found the magic stone how to get the word out to my potential readers, but I will keep on trying until I do. I have great hopes for the virtual book tour I’m having right now. Social media can help but it is no guarantee. I’ve done many podcast interviews with limited audience, but it hasn’t moved the needle much.

Upas Street: Shocking Specter
Do you dare enter Dr. Frankenstein’s
la-BOR-uh-tree?
Upas Street: Shocking Specter
The Botanic Hill Detectives Mysteries Book 6
by Sherrill Joseph
Genre: Middle Grade Paranormal Mystery
Do you dare enter Dr. Frankenstein’s
la-BOR-uh-tree?
A fearless quartet of teen sleuths, the Botanic Hill detectives, travel to
Llanfair, a fictitious Welsh village in present-day California, to solve the
mystery of the Shocking Specter.
The green-glowing apparition reportedly roams the countryside, setting
fire to buildings and meadows during the new moon. The occurrences began
shortly after a motion picture stagehand Scotty Roberts’s accidental death by
electrocution in this case inspired by the filming of Universal Pictures 1931
classic horror movie Frankenstein.
Supernatural?
Coincidence?
Or is criminal activity at work?
And why, nearly a century later, has the Shocking Specter returned?
Readers will enjoy learning about real-life horror film star Boris
Karloff, Frankenstein author Mary Shelley, other key players
in the movie’s production, and some early Hollywood cinematic history. Our fabulous four might need to kick some monsters to the curb to solve
this challenging mystery!
For ages 9 to 14. Adults like this series,
too! My present-day Middle-Grade mysteries have a twist of history,
this time, harking to the filming of 1931’s Universal Pictures classic horror
movie Frankenstein.
It is not within the Young-Adult genre that serves ages 14 to 18.
What readers are saying:
“Follow our detectives to the fictitious Welsh
settlement of Llanfair, California, as they chase a green-glowing specter and
get caught up in a riveting mystery that will introduce young readers to the
magic of old Hollywood horror movies. Kids will stay intrigued from start to
finish.” –KIMBERLEY KRAMER, Literacy Specialist, Saint
Katharine Drexel Academy, San Diego, CA
“I loved this book and could not put it down! I
loved learning about the Hollywood monsters from the old-time days and meeting
the people of Llanfair. You will not be sad that you chose this book to read.” –SOPHIA O., age 10, San Diego, CA
“As a professor of History of Film and Monster
and Character Makeup Design, I was intrigued from the first page of this book!
The Golden Age of Hollywood is brought to life in the eyes of the young
protagonists through their exploration of Universal Studios’ Frankenstein
franchise. Joseph not only captured my attention with the charm and
intelligence of her four detectives but had me searching for clues and secret
messages (Easter eggs) to unravel this horror-movie-inspired mystery. Joseph
includes facts about Boris Karloff that I did not know, which delighted me to
no end. Jack Pierce may have never received an Oscar for his iconic makeup
designs, but he gets a wonderful tribute through this exciting story. A
must-read for mystery lovers and film buffs of all ages.” –SHARON LYNN, award-winning author of A

Letting the magic come to me in the same way it had begun in the park, I smelled pine needles and mushrooms. At that moment, I wanted to push to get it deeper, but I forced myself to stay relaxed and let it flow through me while I told the plant how terrific it would be outside. Sun, water, and CO2 for photosynthesis, all were waiting for her if she would come out of the soil, and that my magic would help her grow faster, that she doesn’t have to wait any longer. The feeling of earth magic got stronger, and the inner picture before me was bathed in green. I said the words of the spell. After that, I focused again on the plant, imagining how the seed germinated, how the sprouting fought its way to the surface, how the seed leaves opened, sheeting the seed coat, and how the first leaves developed and opened.
Suddenly, I heard clapping. Losing my concentration, I opened my eyes. Umbra stood before me, a broad smile on her face.
“You did it!”
I frowned for a second before I looked down. The seedling stood before me, the seed coat next to it on the soil. Exactly how I had imagined it. I put my hand in front of my mouth, tears welling in my eyes.
“I did it. I did it!” I jumped up and down, clapping my hands. I was a real witch! I could do magic, after all! Full of joy, I embraced Umbra and circled her around while we both laughed.

Q & A With Eliza Hampstead
Tell us about you as a person.
I’m a scientist by day, with a deep love for reading and a particular fondness for turtles. Alongside my passion for writing, I’m deeply committed to climate protection and ensuring a sustainable future. When I’m not buried in research or crafting stories, I enjoy travelling and finding new inspiration for my books in the world around me. I’ve always been someone who loves to explore different ideas, whether that’s through reading, Dungeons & Dragons, or taking a deep dive into complex subjects like the lore of angels and demons, which played a huge part in my series The War of the Nephilim. Above all, I value a good balance between creativity and practicality in life.
If you could hang out with one famous person for one day, who would it be and why?
That’s such a tough question! Of course, I could easily name an actor I admire or an author whose work I love, but honestly, I’d want to spend the day with someone who has the power to make real, significant changes in the fight against climate change. I’d love to sit down with someone working directly on environmental policy, to hear their perspective on what’s really going on and how we can make a difference. Understanding how they view the challenges ahead would be fascinating and incredibly important.
What’s the story behind your latest book?
My book, The Nephilim’s Fate, is the first in The War of the Nephilim series. It follows Alissia, a scientist who doesn’t know she’s a witch, and Nate, a Nephilim, as they get swept into a complex web of ancient rules and forbidden love. Alissia’s journey is one of discovery—both of her powers and her feelings for Nate. The series explores the battle between Heaven and Hell, where angels aren’t always purely good, and demons aren’t purely evil. Each book focuses on a different pair of characters, but they all connect to the larger narrative of an impending war that could destroy everything. I’ve tried to bring a fresh twist to the classic battle of good versus evil by diving deep into the characters’ motivations and showing that things aren’t always black and white.
What advice do you have for other writers who want to get the word out about their latest book?
This is a field where I’m still learning, so I’m not sure how valuable my advice is, but here are my two cents: Start promoting your book from the moment you begin writing. Building an audience early helps create anticipation and engagement. It’s also really important to educate yourself on marketing—don’t leave it up to others, especially when there are so many scams out there promising to make the process easier. Trust me, I’ve learned the hard way. Engage with your readers, be authentic, and take the time to connect with people. Word of mouth is still one of the most powerful tools, so creating relationships with your audience is key.
List 5 things on your bucket list.
1. Write all the books I have in mind—there’s so much I want to explore in my stories.
2. Travel the world and experience different cultures and landscapes.
3. Read as many books as I possibly can; my to-be-read list is endless!

The Mysterious Case of the Missing Motive
The Redemption Detective Agency Book 1
by Michele Pariza Wacek
Genre: Cozy Mystery
When life gives
you lemons, make lemonade. Or maybe a gin and tonic.
Emily Hildebrandt has run into a bit of a rough patch. She’s lost her job, her
fiancé and her apartment. Still, she never expected to be desperate enough to
accept an invitation to live with her eccentric Aunt Tilde in Redemption,
Wisconsin.
But, beggars can’t be choosers. Even if part of the deal is she has to pretend
to work at her aunt’s latest hair-brained scheme, The Redemption Detective
Agency.
Seriously, the woman is a retired nurse. Why does she think she’s remotely
qualified to run a detective agency, especially in a creepy little town like
Redemption?
But, when a strange phone call suddenly thrusts them into an actual case, Emily
finds herself hoping her aunt really does know what she’s doing … or an
innocent person may be the one to suffer the consequences.

Agency is a funny, twisty cozy mystery series set in the 1990s featuring silver
sleuths solving cold cases. Great for fans of the Thursday Murder Club.

A USA Today Bestselling, award-winning author, Michele taught herself to read at 3 years
old because she wanted to write stories so badly. It took some time (and some
detours) but now she does spend much of her time writing stories. Mystery
stories, to be exact. They’re clean and twisty, and range from psychological
thrillers to cozies, with a dash of romance and supernatural thrown into the
mix. If that wasn’t enough, she posts lots of fun things on her blog, including
short stories, puzzles, recipes and more, at MPWNovels.com.
Michele grew up in Wisconsin, (hence why all her books take place there), and
still visits regularly, but she herself escaped the cold and now lives in the
mountains of Prescott, Arizona with her husband and southern squirrel hunter Cassie.
When she’s not writing, she’s usually reading, hanging out with her dog, or
watching the Food Network and imagining she’s an awesome cook. (Spoiler alert,
she’s not. Luckily for the whole family, Mr. PW is in charge of the cooking.)

A Passion Worth Pursuing
When two vacationers disappear in the Mediterranean, their friends go in search.
The truth is not what they expected—but then, on an island like this, the truth
never is.
A Passion Worth Pursuing
by A.L. Means
Genre: Erotic Romance
When twovacationers are reported missing in a sailing accident at a Mediterranean
island, their four friends back in London decide to investigate.Questions begin with the fact that there were originally three
vacationers—Reynard, Klara and Anton. So which two are missing? Was it a tragic
drowning or something sinister? As told by the unnamed fourth member of the investigative expedition, this is a
light-hearted and amorous odyssey featuring friends Roderick, Greta, and Diane
as they go in search of answers. Each has theories about what happened, drawn
from past romantic attachments with the missing and fond reminiscing.Their voyage of discovery leads to island exploration and a climactic bacchanal
in an old fortress. Could jealousy be a motive in the disappearance, as
Roderick suspects? Has Anton, the youthful initiate into romance, rejected the
advances of his two more experienced companions? Or does the island have still
more to reveal?
