Rue’s Recent Updates

Eustace and Hilda by L.P. Hartley
"So what's this about? The close relationship between a brother and sister. This is not something I can relate to in my own family. The strength of this book is found in the author's ability to make their relationship come alive for me, and individual" Read more of this review »

Confounded by this book, which is set in my hometown. I bought it for that, and for the rhapsodic, jeans-creaming reviews, from every outlet of note. I began it, and found it flat. Kept going, and found it to be a spare but vivid depiction of a reall ...more
The Guest by Emma Cline
"Possibly the most boring book I've ever read. Boring, generic characters. No plot, no vibes.
The most interesting thing that happened was when she shoplifted some nectarines."

"Reading this book made me feel so greasy I was able to skip my daily ritual of covering myself in olive oil in order to live out my slug fantasies.

Wilhelm Reich
“You don't believe that your friend could ever do anything great. You despise yourself in secret, even – no, especially – when you stand on your dignity; and since you despise yourself, you are unable to respect your friend. You can't bring yourself to believe that anyone you have sat at table with, or shared a house with, is capable of great achievement. That is why all great men have been solitary. It is hard to think in your company, little man. One can only think 'about' you, or 'for your benefit', not 'with' you, for you stifle all big, generous ideas.”
Wilhelm Reich, Listen, Little Man!
