HBO's Westworld star Tessa Thompson wore this colorful gown from Brooklyn-born NYC-based designer Rosie Assoulin and her Resort 2018 collection. The halter-style fan-pleated dress was definitely something "different" and "unexpected" for a big awards show red carpet, especially one such as the 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards. This style I would expect more at Cannes, for example but definitely NOT the Emmys. For that, I applaud her! I love when actresses take chances and especially good ones. I am sure there may be some "fashion naysayers" out there---I can hear them right now saying "Oh my God Nick, this dress looks like she's in the cast of 'Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat"! ...

Well kids, I liked it! I though she looked modern, very "fashion forward" and it didn't bore me to tears (like many recent red carpet awards show gowns I have seen!).

The tea-length dress was from "Calvin Klein By Appointment" which I guess is a fancy schmancy way of saying "custom" or "Couture" or... "By Appointment". In other words, YOU HAVE TO BE A BIG A-LIST STAR to get an appointment and to get a custom dress made for you! The new-ish Creative Director for Calvin Klein is Raf Simons (formerly of Dior as you all know!) and by the style of this, it does have a somewhat Raf Simons vibe...

The style had a multi-seamed halter top section featuring sequined rope/ties...
And a very, very...VERY FULL (about 20 yards full!) of skirt, which by the looks of it, Kidman was LOVING.

Jessica Biel wore this blush/nude and silver sequined gown from British fashion brand Ralph & Russo and their Couture Fall 2017 collection. The gown is quite a stunner and very sexy/dramatic. I do like the batwing-type sleeves and juxtaposition of the blush/nude silk chiffon with the silver sequined fabric. I think the dress looks good on Jessica (hello, she's GORGEOUS!) but I just wasn't a fan of that Pageant-like Hair. It instantly took it to "Too Mucheey" Land, if you ask me. There's A LOT already going on with the dress, that she just needed clean sleek hair--kind of like the runway model.

The gown featured a fitted top section, small high-hip yokes and softly flaring godet insets on the skirt which gave a nice dramatic sweeping effect. Loved the diamond bracelets and the gold clutch as her accessories.

"Stranger Things" actress Millie Bobbie Brown looked like a PRINCESS on the 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards Red Carpet in a Custom Calvin Klein dress. The vanilla colored dress featured a strapless bustier and tea-length full tulle skirt. She looked "50's Hollywood Glamorous" in this. It was age-appropriate and pretty.

I loved the sequined shoes and the fun touch of a printed silk scarf at the waist. oh and the black nail polish was pretty cool too! All in all, she reminded me of a delicate--yet fun--ballerina!

Since this is Haute Couture, we're talking ALL HANDMADE, THOUSANDS of hours of work and made-to-order...and if Miss Ellis Ross was to actually buy this, it would set her back probably about $150,000-$200,000 for the gown. Talk amongst yourselves...

The dress featured silver hand-sewn paillettes, blouson sleeves, a silver leather belt and lots of plumage at the bottom. I think her mom--circa 1970's--would DEFINITELY approve!

"This Is Us" star Mandy Moore starts my EMMYS 2017 RED CARPET blogging with this black and white gown from Carolina Herrera Resort 2018 collection. The strapless gown featured a three-tiered skirt section of fan-pleated tulle. I thought she looked quite elegant and pretty. I loved the fit of the bustier and how the tiers lengthened her already tall frame.

WHAT: Delpozo Spring/Summer 2018. Spanish fashion house Delpozo and its Barcelona-born creative director Josep Font showed their TENTH collection as a brand in New York City.

INSPIRATION: Slovenian photographer Maria Svarbova's "Swimming Pools" series of photos as well as bandleader Xavier Cugat. Picture a fabulous woman at a resort in Cuba (or Positano, Capri or the Canary Islands) perhaps, lounging by the pool and every now and then, glancing up to the azure sky, waiting for her Dirty Martini to arrive. WHAT: Marc Jacobs Spring 2018. Jacobs' latest collection was (according to the program notes) "re-imagining of seasons past somewhere beyond the urban landscape of New York City". Maybe it was a look-back at past seasons in his collections and certainly, there was some Marc Jacobs style nostalgia on the runway including the turbans, oversized-wear, early 70's glamour; 80's Hip-hop; "Grey Gardens" style.
