RUNWAY REPORT.....Milan Fashion Week: Versace Spring/Summer 2018

WHAT: Versace Spring/Summer 2018. The Versace "tribute" Collection. It has been 20 years since Gianni Versace's death and his sister, Donatella, who took the realm as Creative Director for the iconic Italian fashion house, decided to pay an homage to her brother. At the conclusion of the Versace Spring 2018 Collection, the curtains opened to show Carla (Bruni-Sarkozy), Claudia (Schiffer), Naomi (Campbell), Cindy (Crawford) and Helena (Christensen): Some of the TOP ORIGINAL SUPERMODELS and Gianni Versace Model Muses...in Versace gold chainmail dresses...

Bow Down to the Divas: (L to R) Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Helena Christensen--Versace "Tribute" Collection Spring/Summer 2018

Gianni and his Girls: Gianni Versace and the 90's Supermodels including  (L to R) Cindy Crawford, Stephanie Seymour, Carla Bruni, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Yazmeen Ghauri, Nedege, Helena Christensen, Linda Evangelista, Karen Mulder and Beverly Peel--Gianni Versace Spring 1992

INSPIRATION: According to the New York Times: Donatella went into the archives: a 10,760-square-foot storage facility in Novara, Italy, a town west of Milan, which houses 13,000 pieces by Mr. Versace. And she came out with a collection that would be a celebration of 12 classic prints her brother created between 1991 and 1997, including the “Warhol” (a primary-colored riot of Marilyn and James Dean portraits), the animalière (leopard) and the baroque (ornate gold squiggles). And while she remade a few pieces in their entirety, most she decided to reclaim via her own specifications: more day wear, sharper shoulders, fewer slits. What would her brother say about the result? Ms. Versace laughed. “Bitch!” Then she added, “No, he’d love it.”

Then & Now:

RUNWAY REPORT.....Milan Fashion Week: Gucci Spring/Summer 2018

Gucci Spring 2018

WHAT: Gucci Spring/Summer 2018. Ever since 2015 when Gucci named Alessandro Michele as its Creative Director, he has transformed the brand, bringing in a vintage/geek-chic/retro/eccentric fabulousness that makes fashion editors and street fashionistas alike, all shake with excitement. This "Alessandro Michele" look--or "Gucciness" was in FULL GLAMAZON mode at the latest offering from the Italian fashion house.

Gucci Spring 2018 stage and runway

Disco Inspired--Photos from late 70's NYC nightclub scenes including Angles, Infinity 1977, La Farfalle 1978 and Studio 54 1977

INSPIRATION: The inspiration of the show involved "The act of creation...as an act of resistance", influenced by antiquity as it read in the show notes. This was highlighted by the runway stage which included to-scale replicas of tombs, statues, classical artifacts of ancient Rome, India, Egypt and Greece. The runway itself was supposed to represent the Tiber river (see the blue color!). But, when one finally saw the collection, it was more late 70's/early 80's High-Glam Disco than Grecian Goddess draped gowns...

Gucci Spring 2018

SEEN ON THE RUNWAY: 108 total looks! There was high teased & feathered hair, bedazzled 80's track suits, jumpsuits, 70's jigsaw puzzle leather bomber jackets, UBER large and wide shoulder padded jackets, lots and lots of SEQUINS(!), "grandma" sweater suits, "GUCCY" bags, 80's braided headbands, jeweled "GG" pins, "Devo" sunglasses, Asiana influences, medieval costume tendencies, snakes, bunnies, tigers, birds, horses...a potpourri of decades and style influences.

COLORS: Pink, canary yellow, blue, violets, chartreuse, neon hues.

Collection Highlights:

Gucci Spring 2018

Alessandro Michele also paid homage to Elton John and the stage costumes that were created for him by Bob Mackie. Especially the shiny tracksuits which were a staple for the flashy performer (above right).

FASHION SCHOOL WITH NICK.....How to Drape a Dartless Bodice!

Dartless Sequins: Nick Verreos shows How to Drape a Dartless Bodice--"Fashion School With Nick Verreos" YouTube Channel

This is one of my FAVORITE DRAPING TIPS that I learned from my very, very...VERY AMAZING seamstresses. They have taught me a lot through the years and I wanted to share this with my "Fashion School With Nick Verreos" YouTube Channel followers and viewers. For many, many years I would drape silk chiffon (or tulle-backed) sequined bodices for my NIKOLAKI gowns using darts--because I din't know of any other choices...

Nick Verreos "How To Drape a Dartless Bodice"--Fashion School With Nick Verreos YouTube Channel

It wasn't until one of my seamstresses--while sewing one of my gowns--stopped me and said "NICK! Why are you putting a dart and ruining the sequins??" I told her "well, isn't the fabric a woven fabric so...it must have a dart...". NO!!...

No Dart Draping: Nick Verreos draping a dartless bodice for sequined chiffon/tulle fabrics, "Fashion School With Nick Verreos" YouTube Channel

My seamstress schooled me; she taught me how to drape a sequined chiffon fabric for a bodice WITHOUT including a dart that would ruin the sequined fabrication. After that, it was DONE & DONE. And now, I'm passing this draping couture tip on to you!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2017 Primetime Emmy Awards 2017: Priyanka Chopra in Balmain

Priyanka Chopra in Balmain

Three words: Shut It Down. Leave it to Priyanka Chopra to show up looking like a Modern & Chic "Game of Thrones" Queen of Winterfell! The stunning "Quantico" star and former "Miss World" looked HOT in a sequined and feathered gown from the French fashion house of Balmain...

  Priyanka Chopra in Balmain

The design featured silver crystal fan-like details, HUGE jeweled sequins across the neck and armholes and a gown skirt which ended up in a semi-mermaid shape of white feathers...

Loved this look, loved the dress and loved everything else Priyanka did--make-up, hair and styling-wise. Last year, she was one of my Best Dressed picks for the 2016 Emmys in that red Custom Jason Wu gown and this year, Priyanka stuns again: Two for two Darling!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2017 Primetime Emmy Awards Red Carpet: Jane Fonda in Brandon Maxwell

Jane Fonda in Brandon Maxwell Spring 2018

The DIVA has arrived...and she's in Bubblegum Pink! The one and only Jane Fonda wore a bubblegum pink colored gown from Brandon Maxwell's most recent Spring 2018 collection, which he showed last week as part of New York Fashion Week (Read the RECAP of his collection HERE)...

Jane Fonda in Brandon Maxwell Spring 2018

The gown featured a slightly bell-shaped sleeves, a fitted waist, a column/fitted skirt section...

Jane Fonda in Brandon Maxwell Spring 2018

As well as an open back (but "bra-strap friendly"), and back "fall"/train for a little bit of drama. I liked this gown and especially the color on Jane. The hair, however seemed a bit too "severe" for her. She claims to have been inspired by Gwen Stefani and I think with the hair she took the influence one step too far...

Jane Fonda in Brandon Maxwell Spring 2018

Jane Fonda in Brandon Maxwell Spring 2018

And take a look at those diamonds and emeralds!!! WOWZA!!!!

What did you think of Jane Fonda at the 2017 Emmys? Red Carpet Fab or "Barbie-licious"?
