College Life and Book Covers
Some of you probably know that I'm an English major in college, currently working on a Bachelor's. It takes up a ridiculous amount of time, so I haven't had the chance to work on the sequel as much as I'd like. Beyond that, my best friend is on the verge of being evicted and has been coming over to my house daily to use my internet for job hunting, so I don't have much peace and quiet. I thrive in chaos, but this is a bit much even for me.
I'm on the second chapter of my rough draft for the sequel. It'll be slow progress, but I do have the whole story planned. It'll be a little more traditional fantasy than the first novel, taking place one year later. I want to expand on certain characters, namely Adrian, Thora, and Alexander. I'll be introducing Alexander's wife and a certain relative of Raine's as well.
I'm looking into getting a nice book cover made for Awakening of the Queen. I had to go with a generic cover originally because I had no money to hire an artist and I'm terrible with visual arts. If anyone has any suggestions for an artist, please let me know. I know some of my friends are artists, but I haven't worked up the courage to ask for a commission.
Today I finished my first assignment in my linguistics class. I had to compare the grammar and word usage of two different works of my choice. I picked The Music of Erich Zann by Lovecraft, and Drawing Blood by Poppy Z. Brite aka Billy Martin. I think the paper came out fine. It isn't perfect, but college has never been my first priority. If I pass, I'm pretty happy. Ironically, I usually get an A on my papers anyway, assuming I do them and don't blow them off completely.

Birthdays
It's August 24th. Today, I'm 28 years old and have officially passed the cutoff for joining Club 27. It's a pretty good feeling.
Growing up, 27 was a magical number for me, but I never knew why. I just loved the sound of it, loved the way it looked. I suppose I found out why this year. On June 3rd, I released my first novel, Awakening of the Queen. God, it was the greatest accomplishment of my life, even though I'm not entirely sure it's up to par. I had no editor, no book cover designer, no professional beta readers. It was just me, my knowledge of grammar, a laptop, and a lovely friend far away in Alaska that was willing to read my work and give me her thoughts. Thanks, Alyssa. I can't wait until the next time I talk to you and can tell you that I'm finally a real author.
Anyway, I'm proud of the work I put into it. A little background about me; I've never finished writing anything before this. Sure, I wrote essays for high school and college, but I never wrote something so personal. It felt amazing to finally just do it. I was terrified. The few days leading up to release and the few days afterward I had a steady nausea. I was so worried that everyone would hate my book. I still get nervous when a friend orders it, because I value the opinions of friends. But so far, it's gotten good reviews and even if people don't like it, it's not the end of the world, is it? I'll pout and cry, but ultimately, I'll keep writing because it's something I love. I'm happy with it. Here's the link if you're interested! Awakening of the Queen
