The Universe

The Universe is made of stories, not atoms.
This is not my idea, but it is the right idea.

Some questions and answers

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Greetings! My pen name is Andrew Orange. I'm an author from the Eastern Europe.
I was born in Moscow, Russia.
"The Game of VORs" is my first sci-fi novel. Vor means a "thief", "mobster" or "usurper" in Russian.
My second big sci-fi novel "The Outside Intervention" was published in English in 2021.
I’m a college graduate and I hold a Ph.D. I studied the history of the United States and other countries.

Are you Russian?
No, I'm only Russian-speaking.

What is your attitude to the war between Russia and Ukraine?
I support Ukraine.

Why did you start writing?
For many reasons. The main reason… I am better at writing than at anything else.

Do your books have a moral?
The principal thought (moral?) of my books is that the world is ruled by ideas and emotions. The materialism and nihilism are also the ideas, connected with the emotions.
Force and money are only tools.

Of the characters you’ve created, which one is your favorite?
My favorite is Kier, the main character of "The Game of VORs" and "The Outside Intervention".

What is your favorite book genre?
Science fiction and fantasy.
But I understand these genres quite broadly.
Ultimately I write fiction books about real life.

What is your favorite book?
I have read many good books. It’s difficult to select one.

What writers have influenced you the most?
I can name a few famous writers.
C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, William Shakespeare, G.K. Chesterton, George Orwell, J.K. Rowling, Carlos Ruiz Zafon, Lois McMaster Bujold.

How long does it usually take you to write a book?
A year or more.

In your opinion, what makes a story ‘good’?
In the first place, the talent and work of the author.

What is the best thing about being a writer?
You can change yourself and the world around us.

What are you currently working on?
I write several science fiction novellas and short stories. In Russian. It is my native language. I plan a good translation into English and professional editing. I want to do my job well, but it takes time and money.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Read good books. This is the best way to write your own good books.

Do you use or plan to use "artificial intelligence" in your writing?
No, I have not used, do not use and will not use so-called "artificial intelligence" in my writing.

AI or not AI

One of my readers asked me a question.
Do you use or plan to use "artificial intelligence" in your writing?
I answer.
No, I have not used, do not use and will not use so-called "artificial intelligence" in my writing.
My attitude to this subject is detailed in my sci-fi novella The Interchange.

No, Musk, Njet

I deleted my Twitter account due to Musk's takeover of this company.
There are other social platforms without censorship and Muskovite propaganda.
No, Musk, Njet.

P.S. 'Intimate' astronomy and Twitter.
Real life is more fantastic than science fiction. :)

LitPick Five Stars for The Outside Intervention

description

From the review 1:
"There are moral choices that cause the characters either to grow or to become like the people they are fighting against. Andrew Orange gives us their raw discourses without commentary, except whatever commentary the characters themselves give."

From the review 2:
"This book really forced me to think about my own idealogies. I believe that Kier represents all of us. Everyday, we are bombarded by different theories and pieces of knowledge that have no consistency in whether they support or denounce each other. It's a struggle to find what you really believe in when it's guaranteed that another school of thought will be telling you it's wrong."
