Praise for Race for the Flash Stone from Kirkus Reviews

A solid follow-up to the series that answers many questions.

“In this follow-up to Book 1, Donoghue similarly provides an Indiana Jones–like mélange of archaeology, treasure, villains, jungles, and ancient science. (Although it’s possible to follow this book as a stand-alone volume, it’ll make more sense read in sequence.) His characters are well-defined, important in a story so driven by the particulars of how an unknown technology works, sections that will be best appreciated by readers with a taste for engineering.”

Many thanks to the Hyatt Regency, Indian Wells, CA!

Many thanks to the Hyatt Regency, Indian Wells, CA, for the thoughtful and unexpected welcome yesterday! I’m not sure how they made the connection, but someone here read Shadows of the Stone Benders and the hotel created a welcome gift complete with the Master Stone etching and a bucket of IPA’s sure to be Anlon Cully’s new favorite

Sneak Preview of Race for the Flash Stone front cover art

Greetings fans & friends,

I am excited to share the front cover art for the upcoming Race for the Flash Stone, the second installment in The Anlon Cully Chronicles, targeted for release in late April 2017.

Yes, the cone-shaped object depicted on the cover is the Flash Stone. Called the Tuliskaera (two-leh-scare-a) by the ancient civilization featured in the novel, the Flash Stone is a precision tool that houses the power to cut and shape large rocks. In dire circumstances, it can also serve as a fearsome weapon.  The Flash Stone is coveted by the villains in the story for its awesome capabilities…as well as a closely-guarded secret power

NEW update on Race for the Flash Stone

Dear patient fans,

I have good news and bad news to share. The good news…I am damn close to finishing Race for the Flash Stone! The bad news… Race for the Flash Stone will be released in late April, not late February as I originally hoped. I know this will come as a disappointment to some, and for that I am sorry. ☹

The delay is primarily associated with the post-writing activities that need to occur to get the story from my laptop to you (i.e. editing, design, proofreading and formatting, among other tasks). I waited a bit longer than I should have to book some of the freelance resources needed to complete these tasks (rookie mistake), so I’ve had to slot in the freelancers’ schedules where they have availability. Quality freelancers are typically in high demand and often require booking well in advance (farther in advance than I anticipated when I floated the initial targeted release date). A lesson learned for book three in the series.

Now, to help soften the blow for those who need a “fix” before late April

The music that inspired Race for the Flash Stone climax

I received a lot of feedback from my previous post about the music that inspired the relationship between Anlon and Pebbles in Shadows of the Stone Benders, so I thought you might like to hear the song that inspired the climax scene of Race for the Flash Stone.

Though I haven’t yet written the climax of Race for the Flash Stone (getting close), I conceived the scene in July after hearing this song. It’s called Sunlight by an artist known as The Magician with the assistance of a group called Years & Years. The version I prefer (and the one that inspired me) is the Darius Remix. If you’d like to listen to the song, you can hear it on You Tube here. I love how the artists blended mysterious/intense music with hopeful/positive energy lyrics.

I will warn you that if you like to crank up the volume on this song like I do, I’d be cautious with your woofers at about 54 seconds into the song and again at 2:40 into the song.

Can’t wait to write the climax!!!

For those interested in just the lyrics (repeated three times during the song), see below:

Sunlight

by The Magician, featuring Years & Years (Darius Remix)

And it fills me up

And it starts to shine

And I see it burn when you bring me sunlight

Is it all you need

To feel this heat

To feel like everything is all that you dreamed

Is it all too much

Did you get enough

Does it set on fire all the things that you touch

And it fills me up

And it starts to shine

And I see it burn when you bring me sunlight
