“Third Fig (A Letter to Edna)” Out Now in Triggerfish Critical Review

My poem, Third Fig (A Letter to Edna), was recently published by the good folks of Triggerfish Critical Review in Issue 20. It is a letter-in-verse to Edna St. Vincent Millay. There is an audio-clip of the poem on the site as well.

A neat aspect of Triggerfish is that contributors are given the chance to review other contributor’s poems. The poems & their reviews are published hand-in-hand.

Third Fig (A Letter to Edna) was reviewed by fellow poet, Devon Balwit, who has three wonderful poems in Issue 20.

I reviewed Robert Joe Stout’s excellent poem, A Hawk Slowly Circles.

Signed Paperback Copy of Shining the Light

There is a light and there is a darkness. There is, also, a space in between. Homer Antumbra inhabited this no-man’s-land. In his flickering flame of a life, he shined the light and lived with the darkness. His life and work changed the craft of songwriting, both showing what a song could be and hinting at where it could go. His work redefined a genre before shattering any attempts at categorization. Shining the Light is the first in-depth look into the man, the myth, the music of Homer Antumbra, ensuring that the light still shines.

Three New Poems in The Song Is…

Afternoon,

I’ve got three new, music-inspired poems up over at The Song Is…

The first one, What an unlikely duo…, was written when Tom Petty died. You’ll see several song titles and lyrics from Mr. Petty in that one. The second poem, Flirting with Disaster, was originally published by Juliet Cook over at Thirteen Myna Birds. The third poem, Long Wind Blowin’ is about that blowhard at every open mic ever.

Big thanks to Marianne Szlyk of The Song Is… for putting the poems out. Go check out her new book!

Shining the Light is out now!

Good morning!

It’s been a hectic couple of weeks for me. After purging about a quarter of everything I owned, I filled a twenty-foot U-Haul with the rest of my belongings and moved back home to the Bluegrass State. Of course, it was the hottest damn weekend of the year too. If I do anything, it’s usually the hard way.

Though moving is always stressful, I knew I had this day waiting for me.

Shining the Light, my biography of Homer Antumbra, is out!

I had so much fun writing this one. I got to read a whole slew of biographies on musicians, watch hours of rockumentaries, tear through article after article, and write the story arc for a multi-album conceptual epic. I focused on playing more gigs and tried to view each of those experiences through Homer’s eyes.

Somewhere along the way Homer Antumbra became real to me. I kept waiting to get word he’d be playing the Fox in Detroit or one of the bars on Adams Street in Toledo. Somehow he’d become that bucket list, can’t-be-missed concert for me.

Though you and I will never get a chance to see or hear the man, Shining the Light is the next best thing. It’s the biography you didn’t know you needed to read. It’s the novel that breathes more reality than most nonfiction titles. It’s the story of one musician’s journey to shine the light in a world of darkness.

Many thanks for Andersen Prunty for all his help making this book happen. Go check out the other Atlatl Press titles.

Article on Reverend Guitars Out Now in the Toledo City Paper

Morning,

Who doesn’t love a sharp looking guitar? I know I do. A guitar with tone to back up the looks? You got me. I’m in.

I got to go to Reverend Guitars Circle R Ranch and talk guitar with Ken & Penny Haas recently.

Here’s the article.

New Poems in the First Issue of Curate

Afternoon,

Hope all’s well. Hope you’re seeing the light at the end of a long winter. I’m squinting and hoping that’s what I see barreling on down the line. Could be a train though…

Anyway.

I got some new poems out in the very first issue of Curate, curated by Erin Renee Wahl. Get hip; this is a cool thing she’s putting together. Read about what Curate is all about here. The poems will be up for a month minimum, then they’ll disappear into the digital ether so read ’em while you can.

I’m honored to grace Issue One, which includes: Swan Creek, clearing the road, The Beauty of Still Lifes, summer, Western Kentucky Parkway, Fall, Indian Staircase (originally published in the 2016 Hessler Street Fair Anthology), & A Cold Night in January.

Head on over to the Curate site and get curated.
