New Song: September
Morning,
Hope ye slept well.
September done come & gone. I wrote a song. Got my wife to sing on it. Recorded it all in a little blue room in Philpot, Kentucky.

September
September done come & gone
I’m staring at the face of a cold, grey dawn
Your legs shake like my hands & lips
Eyes glazed with the stinging mistHold back your anger; step on your fear
Dance sweet & soft, just like that, my dear
For the night is a fickle thing: it either does or it don’t
Let’s spend the rest of it with a beautiful joint
Virginia done up & left
An empty space in a bed unkept
Can’t hold down the coffee, keep back the tears
Cue up the montage, bind your blinds
Here’s to your Lost, Long Gone, Forgotten Years
The slow, slanted snow knows I’m about to go
Singing “mood indigo” under your pale moon’s glow
When winter’s bitter bite cuts like the edge of a rusted knife
You can cleave the days from the last of my nights

Is This Living?
By A.S. Coomer
I noticed my typo
product
instead of
produce
& wondered if
I only think in terms
of the finished thing
leaving the living
to be constructed
by tomorrow’s steadier hands.
A.S. Coomer is a writer, musician, and taco fanatic. Novels include Rush’s Deal, The Fetishists, Shining the Light, & The Devil’s Gospel. He runs Lost, Long Gone, Forgotten Records, a “record label” for poetry. He co-edits Cocklebur Press.
“Is This Living?” Out Now in The Drabble
Morning,
I hope each of your wings strengthened this weekend. I hope your hair thickened and shone back the soft glow of the midnight moon. I hope your bad leg had a good few days, allowing you to take that much needed ramble and howl howl howl at the glassy-eyed stars.
I hope you fully actualized your potential this weekend. I don’t think I did, but I had a time making a go of it.
The good folks over at The Drabble published a newer poem of mine this morning. It’s called “Is This Living?” It’s short. In fact, I wrote it in the margins of the second or third draft of a new novel I was editing a few weeks back.

Quintessential Listening: Poetry
I had the pleasure of being on Dr. Michael Anthony Ingram’s BlogTalk Radio show Quintessential Listening: Poetry yesterday evening. We talked poems and empathy. Dr. Ingram was even kind enough to let me read a whole slew of my poems.
Give it a listen here.
