Read Christie 2022 – March reviews

Aboard the luxurious Blue Train running from London to the Riviera, pampered millionaire’s daughter Ruth Kettering is murdered, her expensive jewels stolen. But Poirot is at hand to solve the case.
My thoughts: Hercule Poirot is travelling alone on The Blue Train but, as always, becomes the focus of attention of his fellow passengers. When the daughter of an American millionaire is brutally killed, what el...

Book Review – All the Lonely People
Hubert Bird is not alone in being alone.
He just needs to realise it.

In weekly phone calls to his daughter in Australia, widower Hubert Bird paints a picture of the perfect retirement, packed with fun, friendship and fulfilment.
But Hubert Bird is lying.
The truth is day after day drags by without him seeing a single soul.
Until, that is, he receives some good news – good news that in one way turns out to be the worst news ever, news that will force him out again, into a world he...

Read Christie 2022 – from Tommy & Tuppence to Poirot
February’s read (for me) was The Secret Adversary.

Tommy and Tuppence, two young people short of money and restless for excitement, embark on a daring business scheme – Young Adventurers Ltd.
Their advertisement says they are ‘willing to do anything, go anywhere’. But their first assignment, for the sinister Mr Whittington, plunges them into more danger than they ever imagined.
My thoughtsIn dire...

Read Christie 2022 – An update and this month’s choice.
In January, I read The Man in the Brown Suit, a new-to-me story from the vast Christie collection. Of course, it’s definitely of its time with themes of racism and sexism, nonetheless I devoured it quickly. More a thriller than the usual Agatha Christie whodunit, it’s cleverly written, as ever, with a satisfactory ending.

“Pretty, young Anne came to London for adventure. She found it immediately—on the plat...

Book Review – The Twyford Code

It’s time to solve the murder of the century…
Forty years ago, Steven Smith found a copy of a famous children’s book by disgraced author Edith Twyford, its margins full of strange markings and annotations. Wanting to know more, he took it to his English teacher Miss Iles, not realising the chain of events that he was setting in motion. Miss Iles became convinced that the book was the key to solving a puzzle, and that a message in secret code ran through all Twyford’s novels. Then Miss Ile...

Read Christie 2022 – The Man in the Brown Suit (January)

As part of the Read Christie Challenge, I’m diving into the January pick … The Man in the Brown Suit with gusto. It’s not one I’ve read before and, from the description alone, it promises to be a great read.
Description:Newly-orphaned Anne Beddingfeld is a nice English girl looking for a bit of adventure in London. But she stumbles upon more than she bargained for! Anne is on the platform at Hyde Park Corner tube sta...

Cover Reveal – Murder at the Summer Fete
Are you ready to return to Dedley End? I know I am. Murder at The House on the Hill was one of my favourite reads in 2021, a cosy mystery in essence but with a modern vibe. Consequently, I am so delighted to reveal the cover for book two in The Dedley End Mysteries by Victoria Walker … and here it is:

After finding the killer of Lucy Roth six months ago, life has settled back...
Book Review – The House Fire

Who can you trust in this brand new edge-of-your-seat thriller?
A tired old seaside town hiding a series of unsolved arson attacks.
A derelict mansion in the woods with a long-buried secret.
A bundle of old love letters that mask a dark story.
When Jamie’s documentary investigation gets too close to uncovering the truth behind a series of deadly arson attacks that tormented Abbeywick in the 1980s, her family might be the ones who pay the...
