Author Field Notes: Paperback Release & Target Book Club!

Hey guys! It's been a while... In fact, I'm a little ashamed to admit it's been over a year since I updated this blog, but today, I have a very good reason:I'm excited to announce that BEASTS OF EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCE is now available on paperback and was chosen as the Target Book Club pick for the month of December! This edition features a letter from the author (me!) and a reading group guide for your book club. And if you get there early, you can snag a signed copy.I LOVE Target. It's...

Author Field Notes: Publication Day!

I can't believe I finally get to share BEASTS with the world. The last three years have been crazy for me and not just because of my publishing journey. This time two years ago, I could barely walk due to a series of chronic health issues. My goals in the months and years that followed were two-fold: 1. Publish my book and 2. Recover to the point where I could climb a mountain. I’m happy to say that this month, I did both.Thank you to everyone who helped me get to this point, to my family, fr...

Author Field Notes: Book of the Month Club

Look at what I got in the mail today! This last week has been crazy. Book of the Month Club picked Beasts as one of their October selections, and the response has been amazing. I'm truly honored by how many people are excited to read the book. Four years ago, when I was sitting on the couch in my pajamas writing the first draft, I could have never imagined it would end up here. Thank you to Book of the Month Club and judge Steph Opitz for including me in a line-up with such amazing female aut...

Author Field Notes: Book Trailer

Before I started writing "Beasts," I had this weird image in my headof a beekeeper standing over a glowing bee box in the middle of the night. It was that image that inspired me to write "Beasts," so I thought it would be the perfect scene to include in my book trailer. Columbus Metro Parks was nice enough to let us shoot at one of their parks on a beautiful May evening. I used to work on indie films, so it was fun to get to do that again and hang out with people I used to be on set with. Luc...

Author Field Notes: Summer Reads and Giveaway #2!

Summer is an awesome time to be a reader. You can go to the pool and pretend you’re there to swim, but you actually spend the whole time laying on a deck chair reading a book (or two). I’m pretty excited about my summer reading list this year. I mostly kept it pretty light (it is summer, after all), but I’ve heard really good things about Exit West so I had to throw that in the mix. Here it is! Ruth’s Summer Reading List 2017:1. The Bees by Laline Paull2. Mr. Penumbra’s 24-hour Bookstore by R...
