Food In Fiction: How To make Turkish Helva & A Coffee Surprise!


As many of you know, my latest book Timur's Escape is set in the capital of the Ottoman Empire during the 17th Century (Present day Istanbul, Turkey). Helva is one of the oldest desserts in the history of Turkey and so I thought it would be wonderful to share my own recipe!

Tabi's Summer Helva Recipe:

Ingredients:Butter, oil, flour, powdered sugar, chopped walnuts, chocolate chips, and Tahini paste.

Honey, the Home is Alive!

We all know the distance technology has brought us. From Google Home Minis to SmartThings, humans have taken the home one step closer to becoming the Smart House of Disney Channel's 1999 original movie. Sometimes it truly feels like I'm living in that movie. In my house my husband has literally put Google Home Minis in every room except the closets. If you could only hear him broadcasting his laugh to all the minis! It echoes throughout the house.

Vampires. Myth or fact?

From the Vampire Diaries to Supernatural, bloodsucking creatures have been a hot topic for longer than I can count on two hands. But are these beings actually based on something real?


There are many works of literature that resemble (if not directly inspired by) real vampiric events in history. Bram Stoker's Dracula, for example, is said to resemble the historical figure Vlad the Impaler. He was a Romanian hero known for drinking the blood of the Ottoman soldiers he killed.
