Hi, Maggie! Please introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about Heart of Thorne.

Thanks for having me Dane! So happy to be here. I hail from the sunny Sydney down in Australia. By day I work in government administration, and by night I’m a romance writer. I’ve loved romance books for as long as I can remember. Whenever I go to the library, I run straight to the romance section and stack them right up. That’s how I got into writing – I would be reading these books, or watching a movie, and I would always think to myself “I would have ended the story that way,” or “no, the heroine should not have done that!”

You know, things like that. Eventually, I had a ton of ideas that I didn’t want to keep in my head anymore so here I am. My ideas are now on paper, and I’m having a great time.

Heart of Thorne is very much my passion project, and convinced me to want to pursue writing as a career. The best way I would describe this book is The Notebook meets Dynasty – you’ve got the tragic love story, mixed with the family and social intrigue. Brother against brother, death threat after death threat, love triangles, rectangles even. It’s all sorts of entertaining page-turning drama, romance and heat. But at the heart of it is a beautiful love story that you want to root for.

The story in a nutshell: After a tumultuous college romance Mia Winters thinks that love has passed her by. But when her old flame, Roman Thorne, comes back into her life with their past baggage and a new fiancé in tow, will Mia rekindle the spark or resist the passion she still feels for him?

The ultimate question I pose with the book is: what would your morals be worth in the face love?

I think what makes my book unique is that it’s timeless, yet fresh at the same time.

 

Where did the idea of the Publishizer campaign come from and what do you hope to achieve with it?

Having been an indie author for almost two years now, I have enjoyed learning about the publishing industry and how to market myself in the most competitive genre. I am looking to take things to the next level and further my career by landing a traditional book deal.

I was in the middle of looking at publishers and agents to query, when I came across a mention of Publishizer in the Writers and Artist’s Yearbook. They act as sort of a crowdfunding platform with an exclusive focus on authors.

In a nutshell, if I can sell at least 1,000 copies, they will pitch the book to the top five publishers which would be an absolute dream of mine.

Going down this route really appealed to me because it allowed me to not only generate early interest – and funds – for my book by appealing to the audience I currently have, but it could potentially shortcut the process to getting signed instead of going through the traditional query process. Not to mention they have amassed top contacts in the publishing industry.

 

Can you tell us a little bit about your USA Today Bestselling Entangle Me series?

This was a fun distraction while I was in the middle of writing Heart of Thorne. It was really an excuse for me to blend what I love – travelling and romance! The novella series is about Lacey Ryan, a wedding planner based in Sydney who is due to walk down the aisle herself. Without spoiling anything, she doesn’t quite make it. Instead, she’s offered the chance to plan weddings around the world, and that’s what each book in the series is based on – a different city. This one is for those who love a more light-hearted feel good romance.

 

What’s the biggest reason why people should pledge on Publishizer?

 I think apart from asking my readers to support my new project, I would like to prove that an indie author can land a traditional book deal via this platform.I’m sure it has been and can been done.

 

What can new readers expect from Heart of Throne? And are there any surprises in store for your existing readers?

Heart of Thorne is a homage, or love letter, to my favorite novels like The Notebook, Bridges of Madison County, Bared to You, and Fifty Shades of Grey. It is a suspenseful, plot-driven, exhilarating, and sexually charged adventure that sweeps you along with the heroine. Romance drama lovers won’t be disappointed!

As for my existing readers, they will be getting my signature style of writing but more – Heart of Thorne is my debut full-length novel. My beta readers love the book, so I hope my readers will love it equally as much.

What else are you doing to celebrate the launch of the book?

Where do you get your inspiration from and what does the planning process look like for you?

 For me, each of my books started with an idea or question I wanted to explore. A lot of them either come to me randomly, or when I’m reading a book or watching a movie, or because of something that happens to me in life. With Entangle Me, it was the idea that life after heartbreak can still be beautiful and full of zest. With Heart of Thorne, it was, “What would your morals be worth in the face of love?”

Once I have an idea that I desperately need to bring to life, I start planning the story and the characters around it.

 

What was the last book that you read and what did you think of it?

At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks. I’m a sucker for his stories, and he is of a small handful of authors that interest me to read books written in rural settings. This was a good sequel to True Believer, but only those who enjoy Spark’s signature brand of melodrama would enjoy this.

 

What’s next for you? What can we expect to read in the future?  

I’m currently working on follow-up novels to Heart of Thorne, as well as some stand-alones which are still in the draft process.

 

How do you get the word out about your work and where can people follow you?
