A Personal Reward
Wow! Top 25% of GoodReads readers??? If this is true, I must have just squeaked in. And I'm so happy!!! In high school & college, I'd read a paperback in 1-2 days. Then? I had kids and a career. Oof.
When writing romance, I wrote 2-4 books a year and had little time for reading. I'd finish maybe 15 books annually? In 2017 I started the Goodreads challenge & worked hard to increase my reading to 25 books! And THIS YEAR I READ 62 BOOKS! How??? I made an effort, but also life just changes.
1) I started making time for reading as part of my job as an author, not as a hobby.
2) I trained myself to listen to audiobooks by starting small with podcast episodes and then novellas. (You can read my take on that here: https://crimereads.com/how-to-start-a... )
3) I only write one book a year. Whew. So much more mental space now!
4) I try not to ONLY read in bed, where I get 10 pages in and fall asleep.
5) I grew my kids up & got more free time!!! 💃🏻
