COVER REVEAL: Sculpt Yourself!
It's a super happy Friday for me, because today I'm revealing the cover for my new novel, Sculpt Yourself!
Sculpt Yourself is a new-adult feminist soft-sci-fi LGBT romance. Is that a real genre? I don't know! But I decided it can be!
What is the book about? It's about this:
LIPAMORPH
is the drug that lets you sculpt yourself. It's how so many female celebrities in the mid-2010s remained so thin while having such large butts. It loosens up the fat in your body, allowing you to choose your own proportions. And it's just been legalized for sale in Chicago.
AMBER
is a 24-year-old tech support worker by day, gay feminist blogger (and bad-sitcom aficionado) by night. She's been vocal about her disapproval of Lipamorph from the beginning, seeing it as another tool to reinforce patriarchal beauty standards; but as Lipamorph becomes more common, Amber's dissenting voice starts to matter less and less.
JUDIE
is Amber's younger sister, and seemingly her complete opposite; she loves pop music, pretty latte art, and dating men. After struggling with hating her body for most of her life, Judie has become borderline reliant on Lipamorph for self-confidence, much to Amber's dismay.
KELLY
is an artist currently working for the marketing firm on the floor above Amber's office. She's whip-smart, proudly bisexual, and strikingly beautiful...and she's the woman Amber's fallen in love with.
Told from these three women's points of view, Sculpt Yourself tackles body image, LGBT+ topics, and what it means to be a feminist in the 21st century.
You can add this book to your Goodreads shelf here!
Preorders for this book will start on October 9 and run through October 14. If you preorder the book, you can get a signed copy with a cute personalized message and everything. More details about preorders will be coming soon!

Sculpt Yourself Video 4: Body Dysmorphia, OCD, and Eating Disorders
We're getting closer and closer to the release of Sculpt Yourself, and my videos are getting more and more personal and real.
This past Friday, I posted a video where I open up about my lifelong struggles with mental illness, including OCD and body dysmorphia, and how that caused me to struggle with my body image for most of my life.
One of my main goals with Sculpt Yourself is to bring light to the different ways we view women's bodies, and how all body types are great in their own way.
I hope you enjoy the video! Feel free to leave a comment if it resonates with you in some way.
Be on the lookout for a post about Sculpt Yourself's cover reveal, coming this Friday, and updates about our upcoming book trailer!
Happy Wednesday!

Cover Reveal: Clouded by Envy
Hey, friends!
Today I'm doing a cover reveal for a new book that's coming out in February 2019! Check it out!
Clouded by EnvyBy Candace Robinson
Brenik has always been envious of his twin sister, Bray. Growing up as fairy-like creatures, known as bats, everything came easier to Bray. While Brenik spent his time in her shadows, never feeling he was enough. After escaping their world of Laith, and living on Earth for ten years, Brenik attempts to strike a deal with the Stone of Desire to become human. Though true humanity is not an option, he will accept the curse that will alter him to get as close as he can.
Living in a tree trunk for the past year hasn’t been easy for Bray, more so after her brother disappears again. When a human boy and his brother, Wes, find her, a new friendship is struck. Through Wes, Bray learns there can be more to life than waiting within a tree. But worrying over where Brenik has vanished to always remains in the back of her mind.
When Bray reunites with Brenik, she realizes she must help him break the curse after she discovers the need for blood is beginning to overpower him. The curse not only damages those who get close to Brenik, but it could also destroy whatever is blooming between Bray and Wes.

Writing Tip of the Week: Handwriting vs. Typing
I'm currently in the process of working on my first draft of a NEW NOVEL! Writing your first draft can be really hard, especially when it comes to getting brand-new ideas down for the first time.
Many writers wonder: is it better to write your initial ideas out by hand, or to type them?
Today's Writing Tip of the Week video will explore these ideas!
Happy Monday!

Sculpt Yourself Video 3: I'm a Gross Feminist Stereotype
I had no idea this video would be so controversial. But I guess when you use the word "feminism," it brings a lot of really passionate people, from multiple schools of thought, out of the woodwork.
I figured I'd get some kind of negative attention, considering the thumbnail has gotten me some odd comments from armpit fetishists on Instagram. But I did not expect the huge war that broke out in the comments.
If you want to hear my thoughts on feminism, and how my new book Sculpt Yourself addresses multiple different perspectives on it, enjoy the video below!

Sculpt Yourself Video 2: #ownvoices & Bisexual Representation
Yesterday was Bisexual Visibility Day!
In honor of that, please enjoy the second video in my series about my new book, Sculpt Yourself. In this video, I discuss how many books do not have good bisexual visibility, and how I'm hoping to be part of the change for that as a writer.
Hope you enjoy!
Happy watching! :)

Book Review: Bacon Pie
Bacon PieBy Candace Robinson & Gerardo Delgadillo
If you've read most of the book reviews on this blog, you probably know that I'm a really big fan of Candace Robinson! She writes really fun books with great world-building, and her debut YA fantasy novel Quinsey Wolfe's Glass Vault was one of the first fantasy novels that I genuinely enjoyed. So when she asked me to read Bacon Pie, I was super excited! I had never read anything by Gerardo Delgadillo before, but I am a huge fan of co-written books and alternating perspectives, so I knew this was going to be fun!
This book did NOT disappoint. In fact, I'd say it even exceeded my expectations! Even though I've thoroughly enjoyed all of Candace Robinson's books so far, I have to say that this one is my FAVORITE! So, let's start the fun!
First of all, look at that cover, and that TITLE! Even though I'm a vegetarian, Bacon Pie still appealed to me, haha! This book is just as quirky, whimsical, and fun as its cover promises, and I wasn't bored for a second while reading this.
The plot: After an awkward altercation in class, Kiev Jimenez and Lia Abbie are sentenced to community service at their town's Piggy Palooza festival. This means spending a week in the sweltering Texas heat judging bacon-pie contests, helping little kids play pig-themed games, and other annoying tasks. It doesn't help that Kiev and Lia thoroughly dislike one another. Kiev, a big Shakespeare nerd, likes to call Lia by her full name, Ophelia, after the Hamlet character. Lia hates this name and finds Kiev completely annoying. She'd rather spend all day playing vintage video games on her Nintendo Entertainment System than listening to Kiev babble on about the school's Shakespeare plays. Still, there's a spark between the two, and as antagonistic remarks turn to playful banter, and as the two bond over suffering through the same horrible Piggy Palooza experience, they end up coming together in a way they never expected.
This book has some of the most fun characters I've seen in a long time. In a lot of contemporary YA, I often get tired of seeing the same teenage stereotypes over and over again. Kiev, Lia, and their friends feel refreshing. Kiev's a funny guy who likes wearing T-shirts with bad Shakespeare puns, but still manages to attract more female attention than his goofy, womanizing friend Cole. Lia likes wearing backwards baseball caps and torn jeans, and hanging out with her best friend Barnabas, who looks like he just stepped out of a 2004 Hot Topic catalog. While they all have their quirks, each character felt fully relatable, and I felt a stronger connection to each of them and what they were going through than I did to most other teen characters I've read about.
I give this book a full 5 stars! I only had one negative thing about the book, which I'm not going to take away any stars for, because it's one small line. When Lia's talking about her parents' divorce, she says: "My dad left my mom before I was a year old and told her he just needed something different, which was Dom [the dad's new spouse]... She knew he was bisexual to begin with, so it shouldn't have been a stretch for him to end up turning gay." This line made me sad because it's perpetuating an inaccurate misconception and stereotype: that bisexual people "turn gay" when they get into a relationship with someone of the same sex. But pretty much every author/creator does this kind of thing in books/movies/TV/etc., and ALL of it makes me sad, so I'd NEVER hold it against Candace and Gerardo, who otherwise wrote a hilarious and enjoyable book.
ANYWAY, back to the good stuff. I give this book 5 stars! I'd DEFINITELY recommend this book to everyone, especially those who enjoy contemporary YA, or those who want to have some fun with a great cast of characters in a sweltering Texas town!
If you'd like to buy Bacon Pie, you can get it here on Amazon!
