"Write Drunk, edit sober."

Ernest Hemingway said "Write Drunk, edit sober."

I've put in two writing sessions this evening at a little better than 1,000 words each. While I'm not drunk (as Hemingway suggests I be), I've noticed that my bourbon glass empties at about the same pace as my literary output, about 1,000+ words per glass. Coincidence?

Literary Magic

It strikes me as almost magical that Robert B. Parker, who passed away at least two years ago, continues to write from the grave. This one is a Spenser novel entitled "Lullaby", penned by Ace Atkins. From the jacket info, Atkins has written a few novels but had no working connection to Parker. At least the guy who has taken over the Jesse Stone novels worked with Parker on the TV series. Parker's name is huge on the cover, the title much smaller and Adkin's name smaller still at the very bottom. G.P. Putnam continues to milk the deceased cash cow. And I, for whatever reason, continue to read. Do I miss the characters and atmosphere that much? If so, what a great testament to Parker's simple yet effective writing.

National Read A Book Day

Yes, there really is a National Read A Book Day, and it's today. So read a book. Any old book will qualify, I suppose. But, what the hell... why not read a good one?

I'm in the middle of Michael Connelly's "The Reversal" and it's pretty good. What are you reading?

I couldn't have planned this...

My mind, small as it is, has just been blown. As you may already know from my constant shameless self-promotion, Post Mortem Press is giving away Jasmine's Tale (ebook version) on Amazon since yesterday and through Friday. Amazingly, Solstice Publishing yesterday reduced the price of Corryville (ebook version) to .99 for the next couple of weeks. I can't make this stuff up, folks.
