Trying to See My Work Differently — and why Stories Contain Entire Worlds

TW: mention of ED recovery and disability I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking this. That I am my own worst critic. My own worst doubter. My own worst bully. When someone tells me something positive about my work. My stories or my books or my short films or my art. I smile and I…

“To love, to live, to feel so much that your world keeps spinning, faster and faster, in that wonderful, chaotic mess of humanity that you’d so hastily give up. Immortality is overrated. It is nothing but the ability to live through it all and not experience a single thing, to eat everything without tasting it at all." Isak’s eyes shone with a desperate need. He wanted, more than anything it seemed, to be like me, when all I wanted was to be like him.”
Sophia Whittemore, The Funnyman

“Demisexual?” Her face, that beautiful face, remains unchanged. Doesn’t shift to
incredulity or boredom. Just understanding. Beautiful understanding and acceptance. “I
know. I won’t press you into anything you don’t want. I love you, Lili. All of you and all
of how you think and live and breathe. Demisexual just means loving differently, and
there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s your everything I love. Not bits and pieces.”

“My everything?”

She nuzzles her forehead beneath my chin. “Yes, your everything. Silly siren.”
Sophie Whit, Catch Lili Too

“Lots of things exist in Gamin that shouldn't... It doesn't stop them from existing.”

Topics Mentioning This Author

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Sophia Whittemore, The Funnyman

“In Sumer, they wrote hymns about liquor and beer. Compared it to the onrush of the
Tigris and Euphrates. Sang odes to the goddess Ninkasi. No matter how long ago or how
recent, people drink to forget.”
Sophie Whit, Catch Lili Too

“It’s all right, Byron. You’re more poet than you are pirate.” I walk up to him then.

He scrambles to fix his spectacles. “But didn’t you always dream of adventure?”

He stammers a bit. “I mean. I studied literature.”
