Phantom Rules For-EVER!

The Phantom of the Opera has been a part of my childhood as long as I can remember. I grew up on the original cast of Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford and the album has a special place on my iPod. I'm so super excited as I'm seeing the rerun of the London production's 25th Anniversary tonight at Beechwood Cinema in Athens. EEEEE!

Cocoa ~ the lamb

I've recently become the mother of a super cute bottle-fed lamb. She's entirely brown except for her back legs, tail, belly, and one little spot on the top of her head. Everyone, meet Cocoa.

Cocoa with Andy, the toy poodle.

I love the spot. C:

2012 Lambs ~ Chloe's Baby

Reblogged from Life on Lazy Willow:

This morning, Chloe—our bottle-fed ewe—gave birth to a very large, very spotted, very cute ram-lamb. Chloe was one of our very first bottle-fed lambs and we had a lot of nervous anxiety the first year she was due to lamb, but we never should have doubted in her natural ability. She is an excellent mother. Last year she was the last to lamb (a beautiful ewe-lamb named Penny), this year she is the first. Now all I want to do is sit out in the pasture taking pictures. Can you blame me?

My Chloe has a lamb!! :D

HELP! I need dragon names.

So, Quest for Milo has dragons. (!!) Which means I get to come up with names for different breeds, something that is a lot of fun. So far, my main character has a pet dragon who is a Spit-Fire. I've also come up with Southern Green and a friend gave me the idea of Slinkwing, but I need more. What do you think a good name for a dragon breed would be? If it's crazy good, you'll probably see it in my book. c:

21 by Adele ~ An Album Review

I was not at all surprised when Adele triumphed at the Grammys, sweeping six with ease. Like many, it was obvious to me that Adele's second album was the diamond of the year.

I did find it funny, though, how the Grammy's tried to describe 21 as 'pop'. There's nothing 'pop' about it. It's more old-school bluesy with a jazz attitude. But if the 'pop' category actually stands for 'popular', rather than the music genre, then all is well because Adele has (deservedly so) won the hearts of millions.

It is well known that 21 was penned after a crushing breakup. What I did not know—or perhaps, what I had not taken the time to realize—was that Adele wrote 21 for herself. It was her method of choice to heal. In fact, prior to the breakup, Adele was struggling with production of her second album and (I think) lacked inspiration.

21 is powerful, full-bodied, and mesmerizing. Adele's voice is smokey and brims with emotion. A piece of work that stands far out from the crowd, listening to it is a joy (even though the subject the songs center around wasn't one). I praise Adele for writing from her soul. I desperately hope that she doesn't stress herself out with trying to beat the success of 21 with number three. But I bet she knows this already (she's a very smart woman): sing the songs inside and you'll be fine.

The Line Up!

(My favorite songs, listed in order, from top to bottom.)

1. Set Fire to the Rain

2. Rumor Has It

3. Rolling in the Deep

4. I'll be Waiting

5. Someone Like You

6. Turning Tables

7. One and Only

8. He Won't Go

9. I Found a Boy

10. Don't You Remember

11. Lovesong

12. Take It All

Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss

How can it be that a picture book, a book designed for young readers, have hot air balloon-sized impacts on this 24 year old self? Because Dr. Seuss speaks from the heart. That's why.

Congratulations!

Today is your day.

You're off to Great Places!

You're off and away!

A popular gift for graduations, Dr. Seuss's last book deals with life and its challenges. When I recently re-read the book, the words struck the strongest cord yet. My favorite part deals with a place that I have spent far too much time in:

You'll come down from the Lurch

with an unpleasant bump.

And the chances are, then,

that you'll be in a Slump.

And when you're in a Slump,

you're not in for much fun.

Un-slumping yourself

is not easily done.

Words of wisdom set into poetry and art. A book for ALL ages. A classic. A joy.

Tastes like Family Values

Ya know, I wouldn't trade my life with anybody. Not even if they offered me all the riches in the world. But I'd let 'em down nicely.
