Gender Imbalance

I think I do pretty well in trying to achieve a gender balance across my books and short stories. Strong female characters abound in my work.

Bea in The Uncovered Policeman stories.
Fran in the New House
WPC Samantha Loch of Crooke and Loch.
Melody the NBL of NBL Solutions
Christine, scientist and survivor in The Lay Before Last
Ruth who has her personal D-Day in my latest novelette.

What does intrigue me is the apparent gender imbalance in my readership. Based on the reviews I get most of my readers are male!
Why is that?

The women who have beta read the stories for me seem to enjoy them ...

One day .... one day!
