Mercury Retrograde August 30 to September 22
Mercury Retrograde
We are all influenced when Mercury is in retrograde.
What DOES this mean? Sometimes the other planets appear to be traveling backward through the zodiac; this is an illusion. We call this illusion retrograde motion.
Several times a year, it appears as if Mercury is going backwards. This time was traditionally associated with confusions, delay, and frustration.
Perhaps Mercury’s retrograde periods can cause our plans to go awry. However, this is an excellent time to reflect on the past. Intuition is high during these periods, and coincidences can be extraordinary.
What to Do When Mercury is Retrograde
The planet Mercury rules communication, travel, contracts, automobiles, and such. So,when Mercury is retrograde, remain flexible, allow time for extra travel, and avoid signing contracts. Review projects and plans at these times, but wait until Mercury is direct again to make any final decisions.
About a week or two before Mercury retrogrades, finish any tasks or projects at hand. You can’t stop your life, but plan ahead, have back-up plans, and be prepared for angrier people and miscommunication.
Some people blame Mercury retrograde for “bad” things that happen in their lives. Instead, take this time to sit back and review where you put your energy in your life. For example, if family and faith are important to you, are you putting your energies there or just overextended in other areas? Take a moment to reflect.

Home Remedies For a Cold
You can get a cold year round. There are more than 200 different strains of “cold” viruses, mainly made up of rhinoviruses. The average adult in the US will get 2-4 colds per year. The average child will get 6-8. These types of viruses usually are associated with mild symptoms. Up to 25% of infected people won’t show any symptoms at all.
When a cold strikes, you may have symptoms like:
Scratchy or sore throat
Sneezing
Stuffy nose
Watery eyes
Mucus draining from your nose into your throat
More severe symptoms, such as high fever or muscle aches, may be a sign that you have the flu rather than a cold.
Steps to protect yourself.
Wash your hands often with soap and water
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
Stay away from people who are sick
Prevent spreading your cold.
Avoid close contact with others, such as hugging, kissing, or shaking hands
Move away from people before coughing or sneezing
Cough and sneeze into a tissue then throw it away, or cough and sneeze into your upper shirt sleeve, completely covering your mouth and nose

The ever-turning rhythm of the seasons becomes my pattern for the stages of life. Not all leaves turn vivid colors in the fall.
The ever-turning rhythm of the seasons becomes my pattern for the stages of life. Not all leaves turn vivid colors in the fall.
Page 42 of “The Tree of Happiness”
I spent much of my free time on a tree platform with my
brother, Bobby. We were closest.
That tree with Bobby was the first place I can ever remember
experiencing internal joy. The trunk held us up high on the branches
as we constructed our tranquility. The wooden platform was nailed
with hundreds of nails.
I could feel God in this tree. Yes, God as I knew him.
Genuine love!
This tree, without purpose or intent, gave me shade and
shelter from the chaos in my childhood. The bark was fractured,
coarse and grayish brown. The height reached sixty or sixty-five
feet.
It was a creation of God’s, just like I was. It was a home for
birds, squirrels, bugs and me. I would lie, nestled in my home, and
feel the sunlight welcoming my spirit. I examined every part of this
elm. The green leaves were oval and came to a point at one end.
There were lines down the middle of each leaf, and their sides were
jagged. I would climb my way to God every time I would lose heart
or feel anxious. This was my first realization that there would,
eventually, be a time for everything.
I think I was in fourth or fifth grade when my father opened
his church. The place of worship was a small congregation in the
middle of the bad side of town.
We went to church plenty. We had revivals. We sang old
hymns. We studied the Bible.
I was a preacher’s kid.
Later, I was in a prison of a different kind, trapped in the pain
of chronic depression with no way out.
I remember a sermon about there being a time for birth, a
time to die; a time to plant and a time to harvest. This lodged itself in
my conscience. It became a lens through which I could understand
the world around me.
I would think of all the things God made while I was sitting
in my nest, created of boards and nails. The jagged green leaves
intrigued me. They whispered to me, or so I pretended. The steady
breeze gave them a language only I could understand. Each fall, the
leaves would turn yellowish and plummet to the ground. Then the
old elm tree looked barren. But after the hardship winter, the tree and
its leaves emerged again for the spring season. After the flowering,
there were always plenty of elm seeds. And the umbrella tree of
shade returned.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 is a well-known passage that deals with the balanced, cyclical nature of life and says that there is a proper time for everything.
Fall is my favorite season. Something magical happens to my heart during this time of year. It is the smells in the air, the hot soups, the crunching of the crisp leaves, and the time for healing. It is a time for family and gatherings.

Mental illness can strike anyone.
Mental illness can strike anyone. Special Reading from The Tree of Happiness
http://rootwordsalliance.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Tree-Website1.m4a
It knows no age limits,
economic status, race, creed, or color.
We all suffer pain in different
ways.
Losing control of one’s mind can be incredibly scary.
Imagine being locked in a cell, restrained, and stripped of all humanity.
Imagine no access to food or water, no human contact and being left
to urinate and defecate where you sleep.
This abuse is shocking but often true.
Many Americans face these conditions each day believing
it could be their last. There is a mental health crisis in our country
and we must find liberation.
Mental health issues are complicated!
There are many people with mental health issues that enrich our lives.
History: Abraham Lincoln, Virginia Woolf, Earnest Hemmingway
Popular: Carrie Fisher, Patty Duke, Ben Stiller, Alanis Morissette, Ally Sheedy, Barbra Streisand, Angelina Jolie. The list goes on and on…
Wellness plan equals healthier lifestyle.
For people living with mental health issues the road is not easy. Treatment is up to the individual. This person is not broken and everyone’s success looks different. We can find a way to thrive and move forward.
Mental Illness can’t be cured, however it can be managed.
My wellness plan involves medication, relaxation, yoga, supportive people, meditation, volunteering, journaling and creative writing.
I want everyone to know things did not change overnight for me.
It was a slow and steady pace. I have known my share of hardships and loss but here I stand continuously moving forward. I remember the days that made me strong.
I asked for help and I never gave up on myself.
My advice to caregivers is smile, sit and listen. Don’t pity the individual. Realize the person is trying on good days and bad days. I advise those that struggle with mental health to learn to ask for help. Remember, ninety percent of mental disorders are treatable.

Be YOURSELF!
We all have reasons for doing what we do. I have been developing my voice for years. Daily it continues to uncover.
I stuttered in my early childhood. I’m in the middle of the introvert scale. I’ve always liked solitude. People told me that I was an “old soul”. My mother excused my behavior as “shy” when I was young. My mind wandered aimlessly until I started writing.
I searched for decades for my voice. When I started to journal I heard my voice for the first time. My voice was loud but only to me. For awhile it worked. Then it didn’t. My voice needed an audience to influence. Next I wrote a book and published it.
Why is our voice so important?
Our voice can effect change. Think of a time when your parents shouted at you. The power of the voice is meaningful. Our voice is our essence.
Where is our voice found? I believe it our our body, heart, spirit, and our minds. Part of finding our voice is the art of observing you. Developing our strengths and acknowledging our weakness is part of discovering our truth.
We have to sort through our minds to find our true self. To often we accept others truth. We must be willing to unearth our voice. Often in this busy world there are many distractions. We have lost touch of our own inner being. Observing our lives can bring us back to the present moment.
What do we do when we find our voice? When we finally find our voice we can make a difference. We can connect with others and develop our human experience. We can help mentor others seeking their voice by sharing our knowledge. We can impact and inspire.
Don’t let society shape who we are. Don’t let stereotypes define us.
Learn to live outside labels. Be yourself.
We must learn to let go of the judgements we have placed upon ourselves. We must learn to live outside of the collection of lifetime thoughts and beliefs and find our truth. We are more than what we have been taught.
To become a better thinker and a better writer I had to unearth my authentic self. I had to find my purpose and pursue it. I had to let go of the past and trust in the here and now. I had to align with my happiness. When I started my path I had fear of the unknown. I traded fear for courage. One step at a time always moving forward. These steps allowed my true self to shine.
Find what you love and pursue it.
Be unique. Be honest. Be yourself.

Circles of Life
My extended family is gearing up for school and one of my grandchildren is entering kindergarten this year. It got me thinking about the first shapes we learn. These shapes introduce us to a world. The observation of same and different are discovered.
These shapes are important symbols.
What do you know about circles?
Look around and find the circles in your day.
Pizza is round. Our world would be devastated without tires. If we have a lid on our drink it’s less likely to spill. The moon and the sun keep us in balance. A compass is our road map when we are lost.
Sometimes we dance in circles when we are happy.
Some of our favorite things like balls, flowers, freckles, jewelry, plates, and buttons are circles.
Prayer circles surround the sick.
Remember the merry-go-round when you were little. Do you know the life cycle of a butterfly and a frog?
Look at your food like; donuts, pies, cookies, fruit loops, M&M, tortillas, pancakes.
Do you remember the first American flag?
Remember to count your circle of friends.
Reach in your pocket or purse and find some coins. Yes, our money is round.
As a writer I have morning coffee rings on my wooden desk.
Why are circles important?
The circle symbol meaning is universal, sacred and divine. It represents the infinite nature of energy, and the inclusivity of the universe.
The Native Americans have the medicine wheel which represents harmony and connections.
The Five Fold Symbol is a Celtic sign of the balance of human nature. The elements of the universe which are earth, water, sun, air, fire.
A Chinese symbol for philosophy for balance and harmony is the Yin & Yang. They believe our lives are governed by opposite poles. The Yin & Yang forces coexist in everything.
A cross with a circle in the middle means unification and wholeness.
Our world is round filled with many cultures. It beckons us to be interconnected.
The Top Ten words make us think of circles.
Everything
Cycle
Infinity
Symbol
Unity
Centering
Complete
Round
Ring
Surround
I encourage you to explore your connections with shapes. Maybe it has been awhile since you experienced the meaning of full circle.

Volunteer work at The Senior Social Center
I have been volunteering in my community for years, but my best work has been since 2014 when I started volunteering with seniors.
Doing good, is good for you.
http://www.rsvpenid.org/#!senior-social-center/c1xte
I love seniors. Last Thursday I went down to the local center and spoke to the director about being more involved on a weekly bases. We discovered there is a need for a coaching. I learned through survey that some senior have some issues with cell phone technology. We came up with a plan and my first course is Technology Day on Wednesday August 3rd 2016. I love coaching, mentoring. Wish me luck!
Cell phones help seniors stay in touch with family, and friends.
Cell phone are about safety too. The cell phone can come in handy if they have an emergency.
Here are the topics for the day.
Why you need a cell phone?
Making a phone calls
Receiving phone calls
Checking Voicemail
Smart phones vs Flip phones
Setting up contacts
Text messages
Do you know a senior who is confused about technology? Take time to write down a few steps helping them use their cell phone. This information might save their life one day. In this fast paced world we must slow down to help protect seniors.
Did you know National Senior Citizen Day is August 21, 2016? Celebrate the senior in your life by taking a moment to appreciate them on this day. Remember kindness does matter.
Technology can be a struggle for some senior citizens. Be patient.
Let them know how important they are to you. Give hugs often.
