and after the time away-time to refocus!
Now that Jeff and I had a few days at the beach, and I also had a massage, got my hair done, and just finished up a photo shoot today with the amazing Wick Salit for my honky tonkin music persona! It is soooo good to do things like that for yourself, your love, your craziness, your soul…and feel so good about it, and about taking the time to do it.
But now! With so many exciting projects in the making, both on paper and in my head…I have to get back to my journaling, doodling, scheduling, list making… it is hard to go away when you are in the middle of creating new projects, packing for some trips, and general work stuff, to not feel guilt. but I did it, and now I’m back at my desk, with flowers and candles, sometimes music playing, sometimes not…back to my words, and my blogs, and my certificates to make for the future courses! loving that…but I do have to take my own quiet time to focus again, and I am grateful for some of my mentors, teachers, and friends who have helped me with journaling, writing, creating, doodling. It helps me on so many levels, because we all need help, a kick, a push, a hug, a nod…for me, writing is one of my saving graces. Know what I mean? I get so clear when I write, and although I’m not trying to be a heavy goal setter this year, I do really enjoy working with Leonie Dawson’s workbooks for 2013. I finished up the personal workbook, full of lots of page of fun stuff, intuitive thoughts, past stuff to release, and so much more. That feels GREAT! And now I’m working on the business pages for 2013…gotta love that… helping me get to you even better…what do you think?
have you done anything like this? This is full on, long, provocative, insightful, and even just great to spend that kind of time with yourself to focus or re-energize… go got at it my friends!

What is rocking my world!
Good morning Friday! What I’m loving….
So I’m taking some extra time to play everyday, I mean really play, even if it is five minutes… doing things that I don’t normally do, reaching deeper inside to unleash something a little different, by using different creative modes…doodling, journaling, collaging, taking a photo and experimenting with all my new iphone photo apps!
And now I also have a new washboard to play! Complete with thimbles, horns, and cowbells. Talk about fun stuff… Guitars and washboards…(forget the cadillacs, Dwight!) Actually, I love that song, guitars and Cadillacs and am learning to play that one too…

I tried the 3 week—and it had some great exercises. Check it out…

I have also written in Unravelling the Year Ahead 2013, Susannah Conway’s calendar free questionnaire…
http://www.susannahconway.com/shop/
which I also highly recommend, more thought provoking, planning, dreaming, desiring.
I love all this kind of stuff, but I also don’t want to be too serious about planning. I really love to be spontaneous, and create in the moment, work with what is happening, and allow myself the chance to change, jump, dive in, and go with the moment. So all good…
~~~~~~~~
I just read a great book, devoured actually… it’s been getting a lot of hype, and I think well deserved. Wild, by Cheryl Strayed, a Portland writer. A great adventure, intimate, life-changing journey. I love to read people’s stories…let me know what you think!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m loving gearing up for my road trips, my workshops, certification courses, starting out the new year with those aspirations…I love coming to you to coach and inspire and get your fires burning. I love to dance with you on the tribal path…

2013…Rediscovery
My life is rich in so many ways…so many..I am blessed, fortunate, full of gratitude, for what has been, what is, and what lies ahead.
But now is the moment I’ve been waiting for…to be here right now, today, this minute, as I bask in the gorgeous sunlight streaming through the window onto my dining room table, with my iPad, colorful markers, several journals, with time for doodling and writing, my corgi dog at my feet, a glass of crisp Pinot Grigio, and welcoming in this New Year. Damn…2013! How can I not be excited? I made it. And am ready to take it on and bring it in, and relish in the gloriousness.
2012 was the year I pulled it back together, pulled through, stood up, proud, trusted myself more than I ever had, took control once more, with passion and desire and longing, and need, with the have to’s taking me by the elbow to survive, to keep going, to f*+
When life throws us curves, we sink or swim, do or die, make the best or make the worst, fall into the rut, or get the hell up and move on forward. Life is for living! Juicily, creatively, passionately.
One finds out who your truest peeps are, your connections that have been real, when you shift and change and adapt. Moving away or moving on. Crisis or celebration. Despair or rejoicing. You see that life goes on without you or with you. You just step it up, ultimately for yourself. There are those that need you, that want you, that support you, that throw you aside. Old school I feel sometimes, with the beautiful manners and respect that my incredible mom and dad taught me, that is so lacking in so many these days. The crush of no respect, no acknowledgement. The community that builds together, also tears down together…how sad for me to witness, and see what has become of something that brought me the greatest pleasure at one time. The love that once was…ah, forgiveness and letting go…those are my lessons.
Humbling….
Ah, so… I move on, from this minute, to trust, to know what I do best, what I have to offer, what my strengths and my purposes are. What we all strive for, what we all desire, is that not true?
How about this?
Autonomy….Mastery…Purpose….

Wow…that says it all…
Because living is courageous (thanks to www.rebellesociety.com)
My word for 2012 was FUN…. And I had a lot of it…. Personal fun, more than I’ve had I years….and I have loved it so…
And now my word for 2013 is
Rediscovery….(it started out being possibilitarian…but I added to it)
What is yours?
Happy new year ahead for you, to you, and yours… fill it with the moment!
***oh, yea, and look for the soon to be released e-course!
Tribal Bliss — Dance and Vision
… a movement journey
With Paulette Rees-Denis and Lynea Gillen…
A four week e-course, coming to you in 2013!
Lynea and I are so excited to share this, finally able to take it out of our dance studio and pass it on through the internet to you.
This is a course for you if you want to sparkle, move, dance, stretch, shake, write, shine, dig in, breathe, create, and move some more…
We want you to feel delicious in your body, to be vibrant and healthy and full of vitality. To have some time for yourself, to lavish yourself with empowerment, to experiment with your dance, to feel blissful in your body and to release your mind, soul, and body! By combining our backgrounds of Tribal Bellydance, African Dance, writing, yoga, healing, therapy, trance and meditation, we bring you this new course, first time online, to play with and enjoy over the next four weeks, and to continue on your journey, wherever that leads you. We have taught these ideas separately and together over the past 25 years, and we both just love teaching together. We have seen the need for this type of combined movement and writing classes as we have ventured on the path, the desire to get out of our head and into our bodies more, to write and move and enjoy and release—tension, aches, thoughts, emotions, whatever you need to let go of- then invite in desires and dreams, and to purely enjoy your body and the way you feel like moving.
What you get with this course is a downloadable set of worksheets in PDF formats, weekly writing exercises and body prompts, some short video clips of dance and yoga warmups, podcasts of meditations and visualizations, and direction from both of us on the theme of the week. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?
We will keep you posted on starting dates for this winter…Thank you and see you soon!

a holiday share of gratitude and openess…
At this time of year, don’t we all just think, maybe a bit, maybe a ton, of our work and our lives, and our accomplishments, and our dreams? To reflect back, to carry on, to DREAM BIG (remember that from last year?)
As a creative entrepreneur, or maybe a better title for me would be lifestyle entrepreneur, I constantly need reinforcement! Surprised? No, how could it be?
Reinforcement that I’m good, doing the right thing, can move mountains, or at least move through obstacles…
Who are my reinforcers? Well…my mom for sure, big time and my man Jeff on the home front, my dancing sisters, and you…for loving, supporting, encouraging, sharing, questioning, taking up arms, recycling back…but my biz is not yours or theirs…you can only love me and shout accolades, as I careen around every f***ing curve.
I love what I do, have faith in what I have to share, listen to what I intuit. By needing encouragement doesn’t mean I’m not good–but as a solo creative, it only means that–SOLO…
and even thought I have a world wide community of love and support, noone has taught me–I forge my field. Exciting? Hell, yeah! Passionate? Over the top!
but still…I wish sometimes someone would just hold my hand and say, “This way Missy P…Here is the correct way to do all your wild and wondrous projects…”
But NO, my angels only tempt me down my creative path, my dancing journey, to that I can share and lead from my gut, my heart, and my soul…because I love the service I provide for you, the empowerment and beauty that comes from creation and movement, the art I create and that you create, the community that thrives, and so…
and I need you and want you, to share, bend over backwards and do flips, shimmy your little heart out, study hard to pass on the traditions, write your truth, make your way, keep the faith–with passion and projects, and fitness and health, and love, and support, and excitement and encouragement, I move into the new year, with ideas — but also a blank slate, with new and not so new friends, with a re-found thrill, things I can’t wait to share-coaching, online courses, time spent together-either in person or virtual (because we are so fortunate!) dancing our dreams and our loves, SOLO, or together…and I am so grateful to have you along for the ride with me…may the journey be…
Blessing, peace, love to you over these holidays, whatever they mean to you, and many thanks….
paulette…

Movement brings clarity, happiness, and lightness
On these dark rainy winter days, when I am on a sort of holiday from my dance world, actually, it is a physical holiday, not a mental one! But regardless, how do I keep motivated, feeling good in my body, when I’m not dancing 4-6 hours a day? It is nice, and necessary, for me to take a break, give my body some down time.
Weeellll, I have to keep moving. Moving keeps me happy, I am not a good sitter, even for meditation purposes (which is shy I LOVE moving meditations!) I so love this time of year for that inner reflection time, that writing time, reading time, and i am doing tons of that–but if I don’t get up and move I feel heavy, sluggish, even depressed. Know that feeling?
Movement brings clarity, happiness, lightness to me. Explains why I love to dance so much. It is a release, it brings bliss, it brings awareness to the body, both inner and outer body. Having used ideas of tribal bellydance and trance dance for years, I see how much we do need to move, in our society of couch sitters. It is healing, on so many levels, but also it is just plain fun!
So this is my time to experiment with different movement therapies! Ha-therapy is right…so I am trying different styles of body toning, dancing, workouts. The standard and true for me is yoga and pilates of course, but I’ve ventured into doing more Zumba, kickboxing, jazz, latin, good ole’ strength training, and simply taking my dogs for walks frequently. They get stuck in the house on these rainy days too, and need to stretch and keep fit just like me. And I can’t forget about going out to see live music and doing a night of boot scootin!
And when I do get into it, with some great music, then I get inspired, or re-inspired to keep on dancing! (One of the reasons for making my online tribal classes for you )Woo hoo…
Sometimes it is first thing in the morning, or taking breaks between computer hours! That is the time I need to remember to get up and move it. When I don’t I wonder why I feel so crappy… Too much computer time…
I need to move….shake it baby!
Why do you enjoy moving?
I’m excited to be working on my new series of e-courses for you, combining movement and writing. This is work I’ve been compiling for many many years, and my co-teacher Lynea Gillen and I are planning the series to start after the new year. I am beyond thrilled to be getting this going in E-course form…online for all you distant dancers out there… So keep watch…and keep it moving my friends.
Dance strong and proud and healthy, right on into the new year!

Dance is the Story of Life
Good Monday my friends…
I wanted to share an article I wrote for a new bellydance magazine, From the Hip! I am honored to have been asked to write for it, and this was it’s first edition! I wanted to write about starting my crone journeys as a dancer, still, and onward…
This DVD cover is me from the mid ’90′s!
And this photo is me one year ago…still going strong, and loving the dance…
(I recommend that you subscribe to it, it is small but growing and has good dance articles and bits in it! Must support our communities…www.newsfromthehip.com)
Dance is the story of life, the expression of life lived, whether that be joy, celebration, maturity, sadness, youth, movement, stillness. And since I’ve danced since I was seven, I’ve always had the awareness of dance in my life, and of my life in the dance.
But when did it happen? When did I cross the line, if there is a line, subtle or otherwise, that line of being an older dancer? I am now dancing as an older woman. And hot damn, I feel great! Some days I do feel older than yesterday, and some, not. My body doesn’t lie. Aches, menopause, gray hair (even under the bleached platinum!). I know a lot more than before, but never enough–so much of life to live and learn about. And dance.
Dancing keeps me alive, in my body, with awareness and appreciation. My body is my temple, and I enjoy working hard to maintain it as it is my tool for creation, and for living. Health, fitness, well-being through my body and spirit keeps me moving and grooving! And yes, sometimes my body is high maintenance because I dance hard and I live hard. So it is with a big circle of love to live and dance, alone and with others.
I was talking about this dancing as an older woman with Karen Hunt, a dancer in Gypsy Caravan Dance Company. She says, “Doing the dance is keeping me from aging, on so many levels. And while the moves are not effortless, the intention is.” Love that.
A well-known dancer once said to me, probably when I was about 40 years old, that she left the stage the minute she turned 50. Too old to perform. That comment really struck me. To each his own experiences and comfort zones, for sure. But why? I could not understand why she felt like it was a bad thing for an older dancer to be seen on stage. Now that I have just turned 55, I have thought about this more and more. And I know that I am not ready to call it quits. I have to much dance still in me! But I do think about what I want to see on stage.
What is my dance to me? I don’t follow the trends, I don’t do tricks, I don’t need to show lots of flesh. I don’t need to strut my stuff to feel sexy, to prove a point, to shock anyone, to look beautiful. I listen to my soul, my heart, and my body when I dance. When I dance with others, whether it be on or off stage, I love to see the age of wisdom dance, the motherhood, the crone, the child in all. That is the beauty of our dance.
I watch the younger dancers coming up in the dance world. I see a lot of showiness, that shock stuff that I don’t care for. I don’t want to see someone flaunting their body. What is inspiring is to watch the dancing youth, the power and the empowerment, the soaring spirit, the true authentic self that dances with respect, newness mixed with the tradition. Heart and soul inspired bodies. That is refreshing and exciting. And then to watch an older dancer move with wise integrity. Powerful stuff. Karen commented, “The confidence in an older dancer is so much deeper than a younger dancer.”
One of the most important ideas for a new dancer, no matter what age, to remind herself of, is to dance with patience, and to allow the dance to blossom inside her. There is no need to hurry. Dance is about being present, being in the moment, in your body, about dancing with your mates. And to remember that dance does not have to be performed, that is so important. To dance purely with joy, to have the ability to let your soul dance through you, to have the body learn the dance and feel beautiful in it, that is where the true spirit of dance can shine and be so vibrant. Whether you are 18 or 63. Then maybe you become a performer and an entertainer. Or not.
I know that I can continue to dance with joy and sustenance, with love and affection, on or off stage, I can dance with wisdom to share, with a life well lived, with a strong cared for body, with an ego-less pride, and with my eyes wide open to enjoy the dance of all ages, the lovely thing called life.
So my friends, enjoy, and let me know if this sparks anything for you…thanks for being here…

Dance to word–motivation and creation
You know me…I constantly read and follow lots of blogs, from food to spirituality to motivation to art to dance to music…my lists go on and on…I find inspiration in reading and seeing what others do, I love to see creativity blooming, bursting, on fire, or simmering with heartfelt intentions, spreading love, beauty, individulality, craziness, wow-ness, and whatever it is, whether it be traditional arts to total abstract bizareness… and then of course, to share with you and get you blasting out with your own creative juiciness and on-fireness! That rocks…
so…just a few morsels for you…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you read Steal Like An Artist, by Austin Kleon–10 Things That No One Told You About Being Creative?
It’s a brilliant little best selling book, and so true, stating that nothing is new. With modern day connections, the ability to view what others’ are doing around the world through the internet, traveling made easy, and so much more, nothing is original anymore. But that we should embrace our influences, inspirations, and how we mix them up, steal them, add to them, that is our statement, vision, artistry…
You don’t need to be a genius, you just need to be yourself. That’s the message from Austin Kleon, a young writer and artist who knows that creativity is everywhere, creativity is for everyone. A manifesto for the digital age, Steal Like an Artist is a guide whose positive message, graphic look and illustrations, exercises, and examples will put readers directly in touch with their artistic side.
~~~~~~
And along with that, have you read any of Chris Guillebeau work, blogs, etc (I mention him a lot actually)… another young man out to do this thing, on his own creative terms and move the world, a little at a time, or a lot… he’s got lots of followers who are rocking it too. Just thought you should know! check out the $100 Startup!

Here, finally, distilled into one easy-to-use guide, are the most valuable lessons from those who’ve learned how to turn what they do into a gateway to self-fulfillment. It’s all about finding the intersection between your “expertise” – even if you don’t consider it such — and what other people will pay for. You don’t need an MBA, a business plan or even employees. All you need is a product or service that springs from what you love to do anyway, people willing to pay, and a way to get paid.

Motivation Lessons from the Man Who Ran for 5 Days (with No Sleep)
and now, what I really want you to read, think about, then write about it this article on this man…Jarie Bolander (EnduranceLeader.com ) writes about Cliff Young…a great piece, with some good reminders for you… motivation, determination, creation….and I read about it at LateralAction.com–another great site…
