My 1st Goodreads Blog Post!

I believe the first line of my first goodreads blog should say something like this: THANK YOU for taking the time to read my blog! What do you think? I believe that a reader's time is very valuable, and I hope that you'll find what I spend a good deal of my time on [writing] to be worth your while.

I absolutely love to write. Although I have to be honest with you, right now I'm finding it very difficult. Not because I have writer's block. Ironically, I've never even experienced writer's block. The reality is, I ended up on a cold operating table on January 12, 2016. A bulging disc in my neck was working its' way into and forming a "c" shape around my spine. Thankfully, the surgery was a success and my high risk of being paralyzed is now history.

I wrote again - for the first time since waking up in a brick-hard hospital bed - two nights ago. I spent three hours working my way through Chapter 20 of my second novel. It felt so good to be back! I'm hoping to spend some more time writing this weekend, and I hope to write another blog in the near future as well. In the meantime, please take a moment to follow my author page. I promise to do my very best to keep you engaged!

One Day at a Time. One Word at a Time.

This week I've been able to spend a lot of time writing. To be more specific, I wrote Chapter 20 through Chapter 24 of my second novel. That's a good week! I actually spent more time editing than writing, which is typical. I read and re-read the chapters over and over. Details are everything. I find myself eliminating a thought that doesn't quite seem to match the character the way I first imagined it might. Adding in a more vivid description of a scene I got so caught up in writing that I didn't provide an adequate picture the first time around.

When I'm writing I'm in a different world. I'm living the story. I like to at least be able to dedicate two to three consecutive, uninterrupted hours of my time when I sit down to work on my novel. This week I really had to dance around my schedule. Recovering from neck surgery is a change of pace. I have to depend on other people much more than normal. I'm so grateful to have family members that have taken me to doctor's appointments, limited exercise outings, and out for some tasty meals!

Each day I can tell my neck is healing more and growing stronger. I can now sleep without my neck brace! I'm taking baby steps...but as long as I'm taking steps I'm moving forward. One day at a time. One word at a time. I'm hopeful for what tomorrow brings.

Just Keep Moving

A Bridge Apart by Joey Jones The first draft of my second novel is nearly complete! I just recently announced the title: Losing Londyn. What do you think? Does the title make you wonder what the story is about?

Since my last blog post I've written 12 Chapters, which in total makes 36 Chapters. I'd planned to end the novel at Chapter 35, but the story just wasn't ready to come to a conclusion. It's looking like the novel will end up being 37 or 38 Chapters.

My recovery from neck surgery is going very well, which has enabled me to cruise through the chapters mentioned above. I'm now driving again (watch out!) and I even shot basketball on Saturday night! I can't believe it's been 5 months since I last ran, though ... running is my next step!

In conclusion, whatever it is you're working on or going through in your life, remember that some days you'll crawl, some days you'll walk, and some days you'll run!! Just keep moving forward. A Bridge Apart

March Madness Novel Giveaway

Every year for the first weekend of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, myself & some good friends take off from work to watch the basketball games. It's something we look forward to all year. We fill out brackets, eat way too much, & stay up late.

This season my bracket is doing fair & my team (UNC) is playing well. So, in honor of this epic time of year, I'm giving away the Kindle version of my novel, A Bridge Apart, on Amazon (today only: 3/20/2016): amzn.to/1XxN4ho

Enjoy!

A New Year, A New You

It seems that most everyone talks about New Year's Resolutions. Did you make any? Have you kept them? We're at the end of January, and if you've stuck with any of the resolutions you've made then the hardest part is probably behind you.

I've learned that one of the keys to keeping New Year's Resolutions is to set goals that help you attain them. For instance, one of my goals is to write my third novel. So, I set a certain number of pages I'd like to write each month. Which means I have to set a certain amount of hours I need to actually be sitting at my computer writing.

If your goal is to read more books, for instance, you have to be intentional about reading books. If you want to read 12 books this year, pick a book for every month. Set aside time to read each day or each week. Set smaller goals within your one big goal and you'll be much more likely to succeed. Now, move forward and make your New Year's Resolutions a reality!
