Can you rush editing?

When Playscripts bought The Love of Three Oranges, I only had about a week to do the revisions for them to ready it for publication (because I was on vacation for the rest of the time they would have given me) and, though I was terrified I wouldn't get it done in time, I whipped through it with no problem.

But take Mistress Novel. I finished the first draft on November 30th, 2009 (Thank you, NaNoWriMo) but it wasn't revised enough to show to beta readers until April 9th 2011 (I only let beta r...

The Love of Three Oranges: the cure for the common Apocalypse

The love for three oranges - L'amore delle tre melarance (Photo credit: Robin Iversen Rönnlund)

Skyline High School is performing The Love of Three Oranges this upcoming weekend. They created a website specifically for their production which you can check out here.

But I wanted to particularly highlight this line from their site:

Because of the impending doom of 2012, Mrs. Riddoch thinks that this slapstick comedy will be a great way to start off the year. "We need to lighten up this year" she...

I'm trying to figure out what genre or category The Author belongs in. Can you help?

Many years ago, a professor told me that The Author was literary fiction and I've stubbornly been categorizing it as that even as I've become increasingly unsure that's where it belongs. What genre the novella is and what Amazon category it belongs in have been giving me trouble since I first made it available and I'm still not sure that I have it right. I didn't care about genre when I wrote it but now that I've made it available to the public, it's an issue that comes up again and again.

The...

Sometimes, only sometimes mind you, I suspect I might be funny

Two of my best friends just had babies very close together. I was at the store looking for cards. There was someone next to me and, without looking, I assumed it was my husband who had previously been standing there.

So I say, "The baby girl cards are fine but all the baby boy cards are so incredibly stupid. Does having a baby boy give you brain damage?"

The person next to me turned out to not be my husband but instead a random lady who laughed quite exuberantly. I apologized and explained I'd ...

Playscripts, Inc highlights The Love of Three Oranges as a Featured Title

I just wanted to pop in to show you guys this:

Playscripts has been featuring Three Oranges in little Featured Title blocks throughout the site. The amount of support they've given this play has been absolutely amazing and this is just another way they've given us an extra kick in the proverbial sales pants. I didn't even ask them to do this, they just started running them! They're just too good to those oranges of mine!

Oh, and we're still on the bestseller list for both adaptations AND full l...

On trusting your gut… sometimes

So, last week on The Whine Seller I wrote a post called Giving the people what they want even when you no longer understand why they want it. This post centered around a product I was refusing to sell, despite the fact that people still wanted to buy it, because I personally didn't understand why anyone would want it. It was a post about being stubborn to the point of stupidity and trusting too blindly in your gut feelings over cold hard facts. On missing out on money for no reason other...
