The Love of Three Oranges (one-act version) featured in Playscripts’ 2014 fall catalog
One of the most exciting things about upcoming one-act version of The Love of Three Oranges is how quickly everything came together. One minute I was toying with the idea of writing an abridged version and the next I was handing in the final version, the contract signed.
But one of the best things about this speed isthat it means the playshould be out as soon as this fall. And that deadline never seemed more real than today when Playscripts sent out a sneak peek of their upcoming catalog to su...

New Hotness
Guys, look at this hotness. For the first time in ages, I’m actually proud of my author website. It’s something befitting where I am in my writing career and it looks nice and clean to boot.
I’ve been going through old blog posts and I noticed something. I’ve redone this site MANY times. We’ve changed platforms, hosts, templates and themes easily a dozen or more times. This was partly because I like to play around and I always use my own site as the guinea pig before I try it on a c...

A sequel to The Love of Three Oranges? Why not make it a trilogy?

Remember when I said I was working on a follow-up to The Love of Three Oranges? I lied. I’m working on two.
And, no, the one-act version doesn’t count. I’m talking about two MORE plays.
Back in May of 2013, I was having trouble with hardcore post-natal insomnia so I was looking for something heavy/boringto read before bed in the hopes that it would help me fall asleep. I had been meaning, for ages, to read the origin...

Right on pace with my word count goals for the year with 227,069 words so far!
I haven’t done a word count update in ages so let’s just get right into things with our friend the potato:
227,069 words out of 400,000!
(I feel like I am always using the exhausted potato graphic but it’s always the one that best fits…)
One thing you’ll notice right away is that I upped my writing goal for the year to 400,000. It was originally 200,000 words but I got ahead very early so I upped it to 300,000 for a few months before finally just taking the plunge and doubling it. My newpercenta...

You’ll always be a better writer in your head than you’ll be in your first draft

Several years ago, I was working at a small business. Besides myself, there were four other people on the staff and the boss. It was time for our weekly staff meeting and three of us were already there at the table when the boss walked in and said, “Let’s get started.”
We pointed out that the other two were still missing. She said that she’d fired both of them that morning.
The room went dead silent as we three realized t...

Photo gallery from Creative Revolution’s production of The Love of Three Oranges
Creative Revolution just ended their run of The Love of Three Oranges and shared this great gallery of production stills from their run. See them all in a glorious full size slideshow here.
One of my favorite things about looking through a gallery of production stills like this is that, in some pictures, I can tell exactly what part… and sometimes even line they are on while, in others, I have absolutely NO idea what is going on at all and I love it!
Huge congratulations to everyone involved...
