How short can a blog post be? What’s the shortest blog post allowed?

How short can a blog post be?

A frequently asked question in the blogging world is, “How long should a blog post be?” And you’ll see people debating the merits of 300 – 500 – 1,000 words or more, which ones are better for SEO, blah blah blah, but the fact is, we’re all busy.

When was the last time you settled in to read some long ass blog post? When I’m trying to look something up, actually looking for an answer or information, and I hit one of those SEO recommended long blog posts and you kn...

Q3 Summer 2018: Swim all day, write all night!

I’m kind of torn on tracking my writing goals quarterly. On one hand, grouping them by season makes sense and I like having only four updates to write and post instead of 12 like before. Is it still useful for you?… Read more

Keep a business journal to give human context to your financial reports

When my first child was born, I started to keep a journal to help me remember all her little cute baby moments. The Tale of Tales: the highly customizable, mix and match commedia style fairy tale play OF YOUR DREAMS

What is The Tale of Tales play?

Around this time last year, I announced the premiere of a brand new play, The Tale of Tales. Considering I’m in the midst of a many year project of adapting Giambattista Basile’s Tale of Tales collection in a dozen different ways, people were confused as that could be the title of a lot of different things I’ve been working on. What exactly is this play?

Well, I’m finally making it available to the public so now’s the best time to see for yourself!

The Tale o...

While I know a lot of you have already gone back to school, we don’t start until after Labor Day over here so my kids and I are still squeezing every last second out of summer while we have the chance. But I’ve also been burning the midnight oil (sort of literally since my working hours are 11 PM – 1 AM these days) and have a bunch of new stuff to share with you very soon. In the next few days, I’ll be finally making perusal copies available of the long awaited full length Fourth Orange play...

Fish for the readers you want, not the readers you have

You ever hear a piece of advice so often you never stop to think about the fact that it’s just plain bad advice?

In countless articles about blogging and SEO and traffic, they’ll tell you to look at the keywords of your most popular posts and the top ten keywords that bring traffic to your site and to make sure you write more posts like that. And it sounds good on paper, right? People are already visiting your site for x so write more about x and you’ll keep them coming back for more!

Except…...

Finely Aged Whine (Seller Stories): The Griff Story

In honor of the announcement that eBay Radio was ending in its current format this summer and being reborn as a podcast, I wanted to tell my Griff story.

Jim “Griff” Griffith, of course, is one of the most recognizable faces of eBay. He’s probably the only actual employee of eBay most members know at all. He’s done a fantastic job over the years being a liaison to the community and all around fun and knowledgeable personality. He’s also one of the hosts of eBay Radio.

My Griff story starts w...

From the mailbag: When does your play need an editor & when should you copyright?

This is post 16 of 16 in the series “Self-Publishing a Stage Play” Hi Hillary, I’m an author and I’ve worked with editors/publishers with my book. I understand that process but as a new playwright, I’m not sure how to go about getting my 3 plays critiqued, edited and proofread. I’m an indie author and self publish but I’m not sure about self-publishing my 3 plays. I’ve researched publishing houses.… Read more
