Griff Montgomery, Quarterback by Jean C. Joachim - Excerpt Tour
Today I'm welcoming Jean Joachim, with an exclusive excerpt from her new book, Griff Montgomery, Quarterback.
Griff Montgomery, Quarterback
by Jean Joachim
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Two people, two tragedies, two deep, devastating secrets…. Griff Montgomery is the headline-making, heart-breaking star quarterback of the Kings – a 6’4”, 33 year old womanizer. Lauren Farraday is a beautiful young interior designer, bitterly scarred by divorce, whose life is falling apart. Though they violently oppose one another in court over her beloved pug (she thinks he’s arrogant and conceited, and he thinks she’s a bitch on wheels), something happens....
These are the bare bones of this sizzling romance, riddled with passion -- the first in a brand new series that’ll tantalize football fans and have readers glued to every page and on the edge of their seats!
Griff looks like a super hero with his tousled, mahogany hair, dazzling smile, dark, sexy eyes, and a body that does something indescribable to a tight pair of jeans. Though Lauren’s sworn off men forever, one look sends shivers down her spine, making her feel lonelier than ever before. Her lustrous, long hair, sparkling green eyes, and nonstop curves make his fingers tingle at the thought of touching her. How do they deal with their cataclysmic attraction? Will they be able to drop their protective facades – his to camouflage his grief over his sister and her family, for whom he was a surrogate father, moving 3000 miles away…. And hers’ to shield her from the incalculable loss of her husband and hoped for child?
For Griff, the thought of falling in love is as foreign as toe shoes and a tutu. For Lauren, it’s like putting on cleats and a helmet and running 50 yards…. Can they, will they, risk it?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:
The queen-sized bed had a carved oak headboard, ruffled duster, and a pink, quilted bedspread. There was a dressing table, chaise longue, and antique, oak dresser. After Bob had moved out, she’d spent a weekend furiously redecorating, painting the walls herself. The pink, mauve, and white color scheme was decidedly feminine, which pleased her. The footballer made her uncomfortable, looking ultra-masculine standing in her boudoir.
“This is a very girly room.”
“Of course. It’s my room.”
“Figures,” he said, moving toward the staircase.
The pug was curled up on a small bed in the living room, snoring.
“Zander, treat!” Lauren called. The dog cracked an eye, stretched, and then trotted into the kitchen.
“We’ve got to iron out this name thing, or the dog’s gonna get confused.”
“His name’s Zander. I don’t see the problem.”
“What kind of pussy name is that?”
“What?” Her eyes widened, and her mouth fell open.
“Sorry, sorry. I mean, that’s a sissy name. Spike is a man’s name.”
“A man? A serial killer. A bully, maybe. Not a sweet pug.”
“I can’t take him into the locker room with a dumb name like Zander. Where did you come up with that? It stinks.”
“So, don’t go in the locker room with him. Leave him with me.”
Griff smiled. “Good try. He’s half mine for the next six months.”
“So?”
“So, I’m not calling him Zander. Spike, it is.”
Lauren let out a breath. “Fine! Spike, then.”
His face lit up, and he grinned. “Knew you’d see it my way.”
“It’s Saturday. My time. He sleeps with me tonight.”
“Too bad Spike’s all the company you’ve got upstairs.”
Sneak Preview - Love by Knight
EXCERPT
Kelly looked at the ring in his hand, and reached out to touch it, a beautiful sapphire and ruby ring. Sapphire, the stone of wisdom, its shining blue the symbol of hope and faith; Ruby, the fiery red of an inextinguishable flame, its bright red a symbol of passionate commitment. The combined stones a true joining of faith and commitment. She looked into his eyes and could feel the draw to the past of Eleanor Carter. With this man at her side, she would finally find the peace her soul had craved over the years.
Luc by J.M Stewart - Book Blast
Today I'm welcoming J.M. Stewart to my blog. When I read her BLURB about her book Luc, I couldn't help but be touched by the fact that Liz Anderson is a widow, like myself. I'm looking forward to reading this one very soon.
BLURB:
After her husband’s death two years ago, erotic romance author Liz Anderson moved home to small-town Angel Bay to heal her broken heart. So when her best friend fixes her up with a single father ten years her junior, she doesn’t expect much. But this hot young chef is igniting her long-dormant passion.
With a three-year-old daughter to raise and a restaurant to run, the last thing Luc Rossi’s life has room for is love. After his fiancée’s betrayal, he isn’t sure he believes in it anyway. His colleague’s matchmaking attempt is awkward at best, but what can he do except play the gentleman? Liz ends up being smart, charming, and sexy, and he can’t resist her.
An offer to teach her to cook leads to a steamy fling, but this gorgeous older woman makes Luc wonder if it’s time to open his heart again. Can he convince Liz that giving their relationship a chance beyond the bedroom wouldn’t be a betrayal of the past she holds dear?
Excerpt :
Halfway down the alley, he pivoted and stalked back in her direction. He glared at her, as if somehow all this was her fault.
“I was dying to let every single one of those guys know you’re mine.”
Liz could only stare, stunned. So she was right. He was jealous. What was worse, the intensity in his gaze sent a fierce yearning rolling through her belly in hot little waves. Daniel had looked at her like that once. Right before he decked some guy for making a pass at her.
Every limb shaking, she squared her shoulders, trying her damnedest to get her equilibrium back. It didn’t matter why he was behaving like a Neanderthal or how sexy he looked doing it. He had no right. “You do realize it’s going to be all over town by tomorrow?”
Something flashed across the recesses of his eyes that she didn’t catch before his jaw tightened and his expression blanked. He stalked to the end of the alley, where the blacktop met the sidewalk, and stared out at the street beyond. “It was all I could think of. The way he looked at you, I knew exactly what he was thinking, and you were standing there, frozen in fear.”
Liz folded her arms. It was a meager defense, but it was all she had left. “I wasn’t afraid of him. I could have handled him if I’d had to. My father was a police officer. He taught me how to take care of myself. So did my husband. I know self-defense, and I’m a damn good shot. I—”
Luc pivoted around, eyes wide with surprise. “You know how to shoot a gun?”
“Daniel insisted I learn. I have a nine millimeter, and I have a permit to carry concealed, though I’ve never had the guts to actually carry it on me.” She frowned, unsure who she was more irritated with: him for getting to her or herself for responding. “The point being, I could have dropped him if I’d needed to. But I didn’t.”
Luc cocked a brow, clearly challenging her assertion. “Then why did you look so panicked? Who the hell was that guy?”
She heaved a sigh. He had her there. Damn it. “An overzealous fan. He kept going on and on about my writing, and people were starting to stare.”
But that was neither here or there. It was past time to end this insanity.
“Look, I have no idea what to expect after a one-night stand. That’s essentially what we shared, isn’t it? So, I expected we’d said our goodbyes and we wouldn’t see each other again. When I didn’t hear from you, I figured we were going our separate ways. I get it. But I’m fairly certain that means you forfeit your right to be jealous. I appreciate the concern, but I’m a big girl. I can handle myself.”
Without waiting for a reply, she pivoted on her heel and stalked from the alleyway, heading for the safety of the booth as fast as her legs could carry her. Whatever the hell this was, she was backing out now, because alarms bells were sounding in her head.
Just Write!
I was busy scanning through my Facebook news feed the other day, and came across a post originally shared by INDIEREADER, but referencing an article in Huffington Post. The title of the article was “What are some tips for aspiring young authors?” and was written by Steena Holmes originally for Quora.
The 8th point on the list was:Don’t edit while you write – just write. Let that story pour out of you, get it down while you can. Once you’re done, then go back and edit it. Rewrite sentences, find better words to use, dig deeper into those emotions. Don’t be afraid of the revision process.
This reminded me so much of some of the questions I had on my blog tour back in February, that essentially asked for advice on writing. My response was:
My advice, if you feel something calling you to write a story....sit down and write. Let it flow. Don’t fight the process, don’t rationalize, don’t edit. Just let it flow. Later is the time to analyze what has appeared, but don’t cut off the process in the middle.
So, there it is, multiple people say the same thing…just write, don’t analyze, don’t edit, just let the words flow. And yet here I am, about to publish my second book and trying desperately to get the third book in the Past Lives Series written….and what do I do….. Ignore the advice above!! I can’t seem to allow the words to flow. I’m forever trying to craft a perfect sentence, or look back at the words I’ve typed and immediately go back into edit mode.
Anyone have suggestions on how to turn off that “WHY” engine or the “EDIT BRAIN”? I really want to finish the next book this summer, so I can start the edit process. I know who’s story will be written; I know the main characters (hero, heroine and antagonist); I even know some of the past life aspects that will come to mean so much to the characters. The basics of the story are there. Now I just need to get out of my own way, and write.
Stay tuned over the summer as I update my progress on this third book!
With loveAllisonAC Chenier.
