A Lady Never Lies by Stephanie Burkhart

Today I once more welcome Stephanie Burkhart, this time with her book A Lady Never Lies

A Lady Never Liesby Stephanie Burkhart
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:  Steampunk Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:

Jocelyn Dunkirk is not your typical Victorian lady. She dresses in leather, wears goggles and is not afraid to get a little grease under her fingernails. Gentlemen avoid her like a dirty rivet.

Richard Windsor, the Prince of Wales, travels through time to claim Jocelyn's heart, but if it isn't one challenge, it's another. He determines to be a constant, steady presence in her life, hoping to prove he'd make a worthy husband.

Jocelyn's facing a bucket full of problems. The Prime Minister wants her to assist in ending a coal strike before it cripples the nation while her father attempts to recover from a serious injury. Will Jocelyn's dedication to her country and family ruin the one chance she has at love?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Two:
Richard approached and stood behind her, looking past her shoulder. "I suppose it can be. Do you want to talk?"
"Not really."
Richard remained quiet, aching to touch her and offer her the physical comfort he believed she craved, but he waited for her to give a signal.
"I think today went well," she began, still staring. "Mr. Ruston and Mr. Foster have guards and they've promised to keep shipping coal."
"They did."
"And we've got an escort to meet with the coal mine owners in York."
"We've got to be on our guard."
"How so?"
"I saw Jonas talking to them and it didn't sit right with me."
"Why not?"
"I can't trust his motives or intentions. They were questionable the last time he visited."
She turned around to face him again, but Richard kept his hands clasped behind his back, straining his will power. He wanted nothing better than to touch her all over.
"Who is Mr. Brandon? The man I gave my scent to?"
"He's a reporter from the future. I don't trust him much, but I think there's something physically wrong with him. He told me he felt time displacement the last time the machine was used and the Professor sent him back to study his vitals."
"I take it that's unusual?" she questioned.
"Yes." He paused. "He promised to keep an eye on Jonas, but I need to watch out for him."
"Good."
"Why do you look so withdrawn? I hate seeing you like this. Is it Augustus?" Richard asked.
"Some. He's out of his element. This is all new to him. It will take him time, but I believe we've laid a foundation to build a relationship on."
"And your father?"
She raised her hand, cupping her cheek. "I don't know what I'll do without him."
"You've got to think about that possibility. I don't mean to sound insensitive, but we've both seen him. He's not getting better."
She hung her head. "No, he's not."
"I'm so sorry..." His voice broke.
Jocelyn moved toward him. She wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her head against his chest. "Hold me."
Richard's heart soared with happiness knowing that she reached out for him, because his own willpower was about to break. Then the reality of the situation crashed against him.
Tall and attractive, with curly grey-flecked hair and a slightly off-center nose, Kelly was drawn to him even before she realized that he was wealthy. If only she hadn’t so recently sworn off men! And if she’d only met him at home, instead of halfway around the world, sure she’d never see him again.When repeated nightmares drive Kelly to look into past-life regression therapy she discovers much more than she expected about her connection to the Knights Templar, she finds that she is not the only one who has lived more than one life. Is it possible that she was destined to find Neil in this life? Or is this yet another glancing blow between the two souls?Love by Knight is the second novel in the Past Lives series by author AC Chenier, which bring together fantasy, romance, and a spirituality that binds it all together across time and space.
Solitary Horseman by Deborah Camp
Today I welcome Deborah Camp and her book Solitary Horseman.
Solitary Horsemanby Deborah Camp
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:  Historical Romance (Western)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
The Civil War is over, but the battles continue.
Callum Latimer returned from the war to a life he didn’t want and with inner battle scars he can’t heal.
Banner Payne clutched desperately to the remaining shreds of the life she’d known, but she is losing her grip.
Brought together by bad luck and cruel twists of fate, Callum and Banner forge a partnership they hope will keep them afloat even as neighboring Texas ranchers go under and their land is snapped up by opportunists.
Fate smiles on them and Callum and Banner find the missing pieces of themselves in each other.
Healing begins as their hearts are awakened. Now they must remain strong in their determination to forge a more peaceful existence and not be poisoned by the bitterness of a country still divided.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt Three:
They finished eating, sopping up the last of the gravy with biscuits and popping the final bite of bacon or sausage into their mouths. All except for Callum, who seemed to have lost his appetite. He pushed aside his plate, nodding when Banner reached to take it away.
In the kitchen, she began preparing to wash the dishes, as she went over and over the unsettling conversation. So, the vigilante groups were stirring up more trouble along with memories that some people were trying hard to bury. She’d noticed that Hollis seemed to be worse lately. Sullen. Anger simmering just below the surface. Stalking off to be alone with his thoughts. Snapping at her when she questioned him about his moods.
Her brother was a sensitive soul and when there was unrest around him, he felt it, through and through. Living with him when he was jittery was like handling a porcupine. There was no way to touch it without getting pricked.
Someone cleared his throat right behind her and Banner spun around with a gasp, her wet hands flying up and slinging drops of water across Callum’s faded red shirt.
“Didn’t mean to startle you.”
“I . . . got your shirt wet.”
He shrugged. Banner hoped to see a softening in his eyes and she was disappointed.
“I’ll be back tonight, but it will be late. You go on home at the usual time.”
“I was mighty proud of you just now.”
He raised his brows and shook his head, clearly puzzled.
“What you said about the war and how nobody wins a fight.”
He held his hat in one hand and rubbed his chin with the other. “I don’t think I said that exactly. Fights are won, but sometimes the cost isn’t worth it.” He took a step back from her, running his hand down the front of his shirt and Banner watched the journey.
She so loved his hands. Long fingers, wide palm. She knew the tenderness of his touch and how they could trail fire along her skin. “I’ve missed you.”
He stared at her a few moments and something vulnerable shimmered in his eyes before he abruptly turned and walked away from her. “I need to get.”
“Callum!” She grabbed the back of his shirt. “Wait.” When he didn’t face her, she stepped around him. “Is something wrong? I feel like we’re on a seesaw here. Up and down. Up and down.”
Walking his fingers around the brim of his hat, he avoided her probing gaze. “I guess that sums it up. I’ve had a lot of time to think lately and maybe you’re right. We need to keep our heads clear and . . . well, a woman like you and a man like me . . .” He shrugged.
What in tarnation did that mean? Was this about her being a lowly Payne? Feeling as if he’d ripped opened an old wound, she glared at him, but he wasn’t looking at her. Finally, he glanced up and his eyes widened fractionally.
“Go on then.” Banner snatched his hat out of his hands and whacked him with it. “Get. I don’t have time anymore for this silly game.” His look of surprise angered her even more and she crushed his hat against his chest, making him grab it. She caught sight of Shane standing in the dining room, not hiding his curiosity at the scene unfolding. “Shane needs to talk to you. I’m finished with you.” Whirling around, she stomped through the kitchen and out the back door where the air was bitterly cold, matching the season in her heart. She would not cry! She wouldn’t! Should have known that he’d finally realize that he was too good and proper to be sporting with that Payne gal. He’d been raised to see her as filth and he couldn’t shake it.
Striding purposefully across the frozen ground, she made a beeline for the hen house. It would be warmer in there. Mary had already collected the eggs, but there were probably a few more that she could—.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the scrawled lettering across a big white banner that had been nailed to the side of the barn and her shoes slipped in the snow. She almost fell, but regained her balance in the nick of time. Staring at the ugly message, she was aware of pounding footfalls behind her.
“Damn it all, Banner! Just hold up. I didn’t mean to—.” Callum’s grouchy apology stopped at the same time he did. “What the hell?”
JOIN OR DIE
A Confederate flag was nailed below the fluttering white sheet that bore the menacing order. When had this been done? Banner wondered, her mind spinning back to when she’d been out earlier. She would have noticed it then. And the men had ridden up for breakfast! They would have seen it. Someone – no, more than one person – had done this while they’d all been inside. The audacity!
“Sons-of-bitches.”
Banner looked at Callum, sharing his disgust but not the wrath stamped on his chiseled features. She touched his hand. “Callum . . .” she whispered, trying to calm him.
He backed away, having none of it. “No. Don’t. Not now, Banner.” Then he spun about and marched toward the house again, yelling to Shane. “Take that bullshit down off the barn and burn it. The flag, too! Do it now.”
“Yes, sir,” Shane said, already trotting toward the barn.
Banner stood rooted to the spot as Callum swung up into Butter’s saddle and rode away, the horse’s hooves muffled by the snow. Cold air wrapped around her and she shivered, her teeth rattling.
Looking toward the house again, she saw Seth Latimer standing on the front porch, his squinty eyes fixed on the barn. He shook his head slowly, then turned and made his way back into the house.
Banner went inside, too, but she stood at the kitchen window and watched as Shane jerked down the big sheet and Confederate flag. He bundled them up and set them on fire, standing near them until they were nothing but ashes scattered by winter’s breath.
Gone. But the malevolence had left its stain like the black hole in the snow.

Book Blast - Unchained Melody by Cynthia Roberts

Today I welcome Cynthia Roberts to share her book Unchained Melody.

Unchained Melodyby Cynthia Roberts
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Pamela Landers had it all, a senior partnership with a top law firm, expensive car, and a luxurious condo. What she desired most was a loving husband, children and a life filled with precious memories that would comfort her through her golden years.

Funny how fate has a way of steering you down that path where dreams really can come true. When Pamela encounters Gavin Templeton along her journey, she has some life-altering decisions to make that eventually lead her to happily ever after.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPTS:
Excerpt One:
“Nice to meet you, Mr. Templeton. I’ve been trying to get to Sugar Run for the past two years, but …” she paused. “I just don’t know how to say no to my boss.”
He chuckled and pointed her way.
“Well, good for you. All work and no play … well, you know the rest.” He interjected.
Then she thought. I’ll be damned. She knew that name. Everyone knew the Templeton name. She was rather titillated by his attention. The Templeton’s, were quite known in the Northeast. Not only was Sugar Run a rather luxurious five-star resort, but his family had acquired over fifty acres of prime lakefront property and started developing it into one of the most eloquent gated communities that would offer luxurious 2-3-bedroom town homes, a 9-hole golf course, and private country club. The cleft in his chin was more prominent when he smiled and it pleased her to know she was the cause of the sparkle in his eyes.
“And, please, call me Gavin.”
Her voice shook a little. “Pamela Landers … my name, that is and, thank you for sharing your table.”
The waitress arrived, took both of their orders, and refilled their coffee cups.
“So, tell me Pamela, what line of work occupies your every waking moment?”
“Law,” she answered. “My niche is wrongful death.”
The look that registered on his face made her wonder, if the legal field was something he found distasteful. She did not know why, but she wanted his approval. His opinion of her somehow mattered.
“Do you ski, Gavin?”
“Not an Olympic hopeful mind you, but I manage to make it to the bottom without breaking my neck.”
Pamela giggled.
His cell phone went off and he excused himself, as he rose and moved from the table. He was only gone for a matter of moments. When he returned to the table and rejoined her, he asked the waitress to bring him the check right away.
Pamela tried to hide her disappointment.
“Pressing business?” She asked, trying to keep the disappointment from her voice.
Gavin’s was evident as he sighed heavily. “I’m afraid so. There’s something I must attend to in Ashbury that needs my attention.” He rose and handed the waitress two twenty-dollar bills and told her to keep the change.
Pamela shook her head and raised her hand to argue but, he waved it off.
“Please, it was my pleasure to meet you.” His smile was warm and genuine. “Perhaps, you’ll join me for a cocktail this evening. I’ll send a note to your room.”
Pamela returned his smile. “Um, that would be nice,” she waved her finger at him, “but, the drinks are on me or, it’s a no.”
Gavin reached for her hand, and drew it to his lips, and stroked it tenderly with his thumb. “How can I refuse? Until later this evening then.” He bowed slightly and turned to exit.
Pamela was exuberant as she watched him leave, appreciating how well the jeans he was wearing fit around a rather nice tight ass and well-muscled thighs. Pamela relaxed and played back their meeting in her mind. Talk about fate … it was all rather unexpected and the immediate attraction she felt for him was even more surprising. She looked down at the thick, crisp waffles on her plate and began devouring them with a hunger that was as strong as her desire to meet up with the dashing and charming owner of Sugar Run.
My love of reading romance fiction goes back to those early years when I was raising a young family. It wasn't until much later in life I actually took up the pen to write my first historical romance, Wind Warrior. I really don't fit into one specific niche. Once a story starts to flow, it's only then I know what genre/sub-genre it will fit under.
I have only one regret, and that is not getting to this point in my career much sooner, rather than later. Life has a way of setting up road blocks, which for me, was supposed to work out that way. Because of those detours, I have become a more passionate and expressive writer, allowing me to create the kind of raw human emotion I want my readership to feel.It is my hope you walk away with not just an entertaining read, but the importance in knowing, "Without imagination & dreams, we lose the excitement of wonderful possibilities."
All In by Simona Ahrnstedt - Blurb Blitz Tour
Today I welcome Simona Ahrnstedt and an excerpt from her book All In
All Inby Simona Ahrnstedt
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
In the cutthroat world of Sweden’s financial elite, no one knows that better than corporate raider David Hammar. Ruthless. Notorious. Unstoppable. He’s out to hijack the ultimate prize, Investum. After years of planning, all the players are in place; he needs just one member of the aristocratic owning family on his side—Natalia De la Grip.
Elegant, brilliant, driven to succeed in a man’s world, Natalia is curious about David’s unexpected invitation to lunch. Everyone knows that he is rich, dangerous, unethical; she soon discovers he is also deeply scarred.
The attraction between these two is impossible, but the long Swedish nights unfold an affair that will bring to light shocking secrets, forever alter a family, and force both Natalia and David to confront their innermost fears and desires.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Four:
David saw her. She was standing there amid a crowd of partygoers, almost luminous. People moved around and behind and sometimes in front of her, but she stood out like a radiant star in a dark sky. How could he ever have thought that Natalia was anything other than breathtakingly beautiful? Had there really been a time when he had described her to himself as common and insignificant? There was nothing ordinary about her. She had done something to her hair—it fell around her shoulders in big glossy waves that continued down her back. And she was wearing red. A Ferrari red dress, short and made of some material that looked alive, swirling around her body in triumphant serpentine swaths. And those long, sexy legs that quite recently had rested on his shoulders as he brought her to climax.
At first he couldn’t identify the word he heard in his head; he was too preoccupied with drinking her in with his eyes.
But then he heard it again, a single word that drowned out all the others, a primal roar.
Mine.
She is mine.
Which was beyond stupid, of course. He had no right to her, never would. It didn’t matter what they’d done. It was only sex.
Only sex.
He wanted to walk over to her. He wanted to caress those bare shoulders, put his arm around her, pull her to him, kiss her deeply, thoroughly, satisfyingly. Wanted to see her face start to glow, see her eyes widen. It was almost impossible to resist. Impossible to remember why he should resist that impulse that was so primal in its force. He did what he apparently always did when it came to Natalia—he started bargaining with himself.
One last time, what did it matter? Because this would really be the last time, truly. This was the last night they would see each other before— well, before.
She cocked her head to the side and watched him, alluring and tempting him like a modern-day siren, and David just threw it all overboard. He dumped his good intentions and reason as if they were ballast, holding him down, and made up his mind.
Mine.
He was about to start walking toward her, had already taken the first step, when he suddenly saw a tall man slip up behind her, as if he’d been standing there the whole time and was now staking his rightful claim. With a slow wink Natalia looked away from David. She turned to face the man. He whispered something in her ear, she nodded in response, and David saw the couple move a little and then they were swallowed by the crowd of party guests.
The moment was past.
He swallowed. He should be grateful it had happened. Now he had the chance to move on.
But he didn’t move on.
He just stood there.
And he wondered: who the hell was that man?

A Gentleman and a Rogue by Stephanie Burkhart

Today I welcome Stephanie Burkhart the author of A Gentleman and a Rogue.

A Gentleman and a Rogue by Stephanie Burkhart
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Steampunk romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Lady Keira Russell is destined to bring compressed natural gas to Britain. Her inner courage and mental toughness rarely falter – except when Prince Edmund Windsor is involved.

Edmund of Wales is from the future. His last jaunt through history muffed up the time line. Now, he's here to set it straight and win Keira's heart.

For Keira, if it isn't one obstacle, it's another. Queen Victoria has sponsored a competition to find a cleaner fuel source than coal. Keira's father is trying to build a windmill and the Ridgecrofts are working with gasoline. Then there's Edmund, whose sensual kisses and heated stares distract her down to her bones.

Keira has a choice: trust Edmund's notorious mischief-making or put her faith in Queen Victoria to make the right decision, but if Keira makes the wrong choice, the future of Great Britain will be changed forever.

EXCERPT:

Richard pursed his lips.

"All right, then. I have orders to take you, Alice, Grayson, and Jonas back immediately."
"That ought to be fun -- especially Jonas. He's helping Keira's father build a windmill."
"Petrol and electricity are the future."
Edmund grimaced.
"No, they aren't. Alice and I tried to tell you -- Keira's compressed natural gas powers our future."
His voice filled with conviction.
"Ever since we were children--"
"History changed when Grayson came with Alice. He's here to fix it now."
Keira held up her hands.
"Now, boys, let's not raise our voices. I have a feeling you've had this conversation before and came to no resolution."
"That's true," Edmund conceded.
Richard nodded.
Edmund glared at his brother.
"I'm not leaving. Alice and I have every intention of setting history straight."
Richard sighed.
"Besides, the only way to get back to the future is for us to warm our coin necklaces in our hands. You can't do that for us."
"Ever heard of an override switch?"
"No." Edmund's eyes narrowed. He didn't like the sound of that.
"Professor Byron gave me one."
A sinking feeling descended into the pit of his stomach.
"What other tricks do you have up your sleeve?"
"That's telling."
Exasperated, Edmund raked a hand through his hair.
"Think this through, Richard. No, better yet -- listen to your instincts."
His brother chuckled.
"What's so funny?"
"I had an interesting conversation about instincts today with Jocelyn."
Keira tilted her head slightly, a curious expression crossing her face.
"Do you know Jocelyn well?"
"I'm staying with the Dunkirks."
"I can't imagine Lord Ridgecroft meeting the suitable test with his goggles and cigars," said Edmund.
"Actually, I find Jocelyn and her father very refreshing."
"So, Richard, what are you going to do?" Edmund asked.
